Guidance When we are down, lots of support from a helpful friend is our salvation – it makes all the difference between failure and success. Hitting bottom often precedes our personal victories, whether we have help or not. When we can be there for a friend who is headed for the pavement, we achieve the same victory our friend does. Desperation is often a shortcut to success. Today we talk about that kind of victory, that kind of achievement, that kind of winning, and we point out that it tends to happen fast.

Are YOU here for the first time? INSTRUCTIONS to this site are at the very bottom. “Guidance” is the summary, followed by sentences that are word for word Tarot Readings. You pick the sentences that you feel apply, and decide whether to encourage them, or reject them. That’s it in a nutshell.

Part One is Guidance and the Tarot Reading Sentences. Part Two is Learn Tarot by Observation, and Learn Tarot by the Pictures. If you just want your daily look ahead, Part One is all you need. Want more? – keep going.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

Party-pooper alert! Five of Pentacles is one of those ‘surround me with happy sentiments and watch me poison the well’ Rider Waite Tarot cards in the Tarot Verbatim ™ (or any other) system. Five of Pentacles is Dark Night of the Soul, what Ste. Teresa d’Avila calls ‘aridity’ in her spiritual tomes that are considered the premier mystical writings of Western culture. In the real world, it’s how people who are clinically depressed feel: worthless, hopeless, numb and desperate.

Knight of Cups is the helpful friend, the one who comforts and makes suggestions and loves and understands us. He is famous for putting his hand out in friendship (or in love) first. He is the facilitator of contacts and connections; he is the messenger.

Eight of Wands is the messages, communication of any sort. It means more and more; it means ‘lots of’ or ‘a number of.’

Ace of Swords is all one way. It trips the reader up because a victory ‘all one way’ for one side is a defeat ‘all one way’ for the other. It means to overcome, to win, to be the champion.

The overall message for today’s panel of Rider Waite citizens at our Tarot Verbatim ™ conference table is help when we need it most, and we overcome (whatever the desperation was that threatened us).

LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES

Knight of Cups This Rider Waite Tarot card is drawn in curved lines and colored in pastel shades, just like Six of Cups, another warm fuzzy one. What you see here is the helpful friend, the one who comforts and makes suggestions and loves and understands us. He is famous for putting his hand out in friendship (or in love) first. He is the facilitator of contacts and connections; he is the messenger.
Eight of Wands We see sticks flying in the air, making lines that look sort of like lines on writing paper. There’s not that much that connects this card to the meanings we get for it in Tarot Verbatim ™: messages, communication of any sort. It means more and more; it means ‘lots of’ or ‘a number of,’ and it means accumulation or accretion.
Five of Pentacles Two sick disabled people are on the street homeless in the snowstorm, poorly clothed and desperate. They are so numb they pass right by the help that is available for them in that cathedral. This is how people who are clinically depressed feel: worthless, hopeless, numb and desperate. Five of Pentacles reflects a spiritual phase called Dark Night of the Soul. There is a book by that name that explains it.
Ace of Swords A crown with the laurel wreath of victory atop an upraised sword. Very plain. All one way: victory. Of course, victory for one side is defeat for the other. Overcoming is a large part of its meaning, and that is the part that we use today.

Is this the first time you come here? Well … what to do:

*Go to Guidance (above ) which is a summary of the Messages. (Guidance is everyone’s favorite part.)

*Go to Group Analytical Tarot Cards Reading next after Guidance.  One or more of those sentences has something to say to you.  Intuitively pick those out and decide whether to encourage or suppress them.  They are about you and the people around you.  They are about today and the days around it.  (It is a group message like a horoscope,  except Tarot isn’t based on someone else’s birth data,  so it can be specific,  accurate,  detailed and direct.  Our experiment here is  “How much more accurate is it?”)

Did you come here for your predictions? –  You are done now –  See you tomorrow.

Without a question to focus the answer,  four cards can mean contradictory things,  especially when the Spread has a card that negates other cards.  Without a question also the pronouns in a group reading are more flexible,  especially in some of these Rider Waite Tarot spreads.  When a pronoun is in parentheses,  feel very free to substitute.  The question in a  ‘real’  individual reading supplies at least half the information!

Now, Part Two,

Do you want to know a little, or a lot, about how this Tarot Verbatim ™ thing works? If so,

*Go to Learn Tarot by Observing section below. This tells about the combined four pictures in the Daily Spread –  the pictures above here.  It explains how these four cards get together in your mind to make the message.

*Go to Learn Tarot by the Pictures.  It is what each of the four cards,  by itself,  has to say.  It shows you how that illustration makes that card’s meanings in this Spread.

You can put all this together and intuitively see yourself how Tarot Verbatim ™ works.

Say hello back!  Comment!  Remember to share your experience about our experiment here if you have words for it.  Read others’ comments. We have a Community of commenters.

What an amazing spread for the day . . . I just got back from my weekly CoDA meeting . . . and this is us exactly:
Knight of Cups + Five of Pentacles:
Being used to doing without conversations with friends.
Hitting bottom and overcoming that through conversations with friends.
When feeling bad gets the best of you, friends help.
You can help because of all the terrible things you have suffered and overcome.
Quite a few struggles ongoing; need a friend in this situation.
This writing is absolutely a comfort in time of need.
Have to tell a friend when (you) hurt.

    • Jaclyn,
As I typed those, I thought that several would apply to someone’s situation, and here you are with your people. Thank you for letting me know, as personal as the group’s situations are.

  2. Lori

Overcome by loneliness, he has a lot of warm and affectionate things to say.

He loves her; he shows it and tells her it often, but she feels so very unworthy.

Perfectly describes my feelings and hopes for my new “friend”
    Thanks Emily!

    • You know how to pick out the ones that apply, too. I do appreciate knowing we’re on point here in my work.

  3. Win

Reads to all characters both within and without of myself today, Love your work and hope all is well!

    • I love my work too. This spread describes all elements of the subject scene. I especially am captivated by the remark that you share the victory of a person who is desperate when you help him/her up.
