Six of Swords – Eight of Pentacles – Strength

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

.

………………………     What a visual, and what a story these three Tarot cards make in Tarot Verbatim™! Six of Swords is things improving from whatever the problems were; Strength is handling interference and stifling opposition (including internal opposition, which can apply to within a person or to within a bunch of people). These two concepts unite to describe improving the situation by clearing the right-of-way for things to get better or improve. As if that were not nifty enough, Eight of Pentacles makes this a continuing process, steady effort, an ongoing struggle. It’s not that apparent, but all three of these Rider Waite Tarot cards involve a continuing process. Eight of Pentacles also applies the whole story to workplaces.

………………………..Six of Swords shows two broken people heading on out to greener pastures. Their little boat is barely above the waterline. All they have in the world is someone to help them paddle away from the bad scene. Hope you have been at this place because everyone is at least once, and yours is coming if you haven’t. Sometimes, this Six of Swords is saying, that’s all a person needs – is to get away – for things to get better. Six of Swords is in the process of making things better by giving up and going away. It is a hopeful influence, this Six of Swords card, despite the shabby scene. This Tarot card is very very flexible: Anything can be going away, anything other cards put in its hopper. Today emphasizes the problems going away because a strong person is applying a solution, in the person of Strength. Strength is similar to chariot: An able and determined person overcomes interfering factors and wins by willpower, dominating the scene by being bigger than trouble.

……………………….. Eight of Pentacles is about keeping at it, persistence, constant and consistent effort, working on it. It is also all about work. Just say ‘work’ and it shows up, ready to go to work. Eight of Pentacles is about ongoing processes, continual patterns, as well as continual effort. Things are in process in Six of Swords too. Eight of Pentacles tends to be about the physical aspect, and about physical efforts and physical tasks.

……………………….. Strength Like I just said right above here, “An able and determined person overcomes interfering factors and wins by willpower, dominating the scene by being bigger than trouble.” This seems to be the underlying philosophy of Tarot itself, at least Tarot Verbatim™. The core meaning of Strength is that when you have straightened yourself out, you straighten your world out; that when you have a fix to an interfering person or factor, it withdraws from your story. Apply this: It is true even in the most mundane ways. Had trouble every year with the cantankerous family reunion scene … but this year you’re a man with a plan. You go to it armed in your gut. And none of what you are prepared for happens. Try it; you’ll like it. Strength tames the beast, not by opposing directly, but by defusing the venom in the attack or opposition. A mugger doesn’t want to fight someone who loves to fight, you know, or someone who is expert at laying hands on what gets in the way. Be that person; have that approach.

‘Be prepared,’ the Boy Scouts say. We say ‘Have overcoming skills in your pocket like a Swiss Army Knife, and you won’t have much to overcome.’ Could it be like ‘It never rains when you carry an umbrella?’ Is there some universal law that covers solutions coming from within and stifling the external friction? So, do you really grease your own way by wanting to get to know the booger bear? – and so the bear doesn’t want to know you? Try it and see, we invite you today.

 .

Now we show where each of the phrases in each of the sentences comes from:

NOTE: TODAY IS AN EXAMPLE OF OVERLAPPING MEANINGS, WHICH, ONCE AGAIN, CAUSE THE SAME CARDS TO MEAN MORE THAN ONE PART OF THESE SENTENCES. I HAVE USED UNDERLINING AND NOTES TO CLARIFY AS MUCH AS I CAN WITHOUT WRITING TOO MUCH. YOU WILL GET A SENSE OF IT.

……….………..

Tarot Readings: Getting Myself Out of My Way (Six of Swords and Strength)

I get my own opposition Strength out of the way Six of Swords first, then I do other things Eight of Pentacles (Eight of Pentacles does not mean ‘other things.’ That comes from Six of Swords headed in a different direction, but that isn’t literal.) better Six of Swords.

I am in the process of Eight of Pentacles recovering from Six of Swords getting in my own way. Strength is getting out of your own way, which is inferred but not stated here.

I am getting a grip on Strength that habit Eight of Pentacles, working on Eight of Pentacles getting over it Six of Swords.

Six of Swords……….. Six of Swords is getting out of the way of what is holding you back. ‘It’s not working’ so you are on to the next thing, not looking back. You took your licks, had enough of that, and move on to something better. At this very Six of Swords moment, you are in process; you are not in the place you left, and you are not in the place you are going to. You are on the water, and water in Tarot represents consciousness, so Six of Swords is also about a journey in consciousness. Six of Swords is sort of a limbo, therefore, but it’s a hopeful limbo. You learn your lesson and don’t revisit the scene of your education. Our scene in Six of Swords shows refugees leaving at dawn or dusk, huddled in a shallow open boat on open water, headed to a better scene broke and hopeful. Six of Swords assures them that things will be better.

.

Eight of Pentacles…………. Eight of Pentacles shows a carpenter hammering out that pentacle product at his plain workbench. Carpenters, skilled ones, work fast without letup, and nothing interferes with them once they get started. Eight of Pentacles is the lead card for anything at all about work, labor, work site, workplace, employment, employees, being employed, having a job, labor expense and labor parties – all of that and more. Eight of Pentacles also strongly means keeping at it, repetitive acts, being in reflexive mode from repetitive motions, doing something over and over. Words like consistent, constant, continual, every time, each and every – they all belong to Eight of Pentacles.

.

Strength…………Strength is complex in its simplicity. Focus in Strength is overcoming, but it’s not the battle, at all. Strength is preventing, solving, spoiling the abuser’s joy at his game, charming the opposition in order to quiet it, making the wildcat enjoy being petted, and doing the same to your own internal trip-ups and sticking points. A person who resolves his or her internal conflicts does not attract conflict from the outside, and that’s not some pretty New Age mantra, it’s the way things operate. You don’t have to understand it to use it, either. Just do it. But do it for real, because what works is the fact of being in control of your own directions, not thinking you are. Strength has the eternity sign (math sign for repeating decimals) as her halo, and wears the trappings of purity: white gown, garlands. These indicate she is a spiritual adept, that she can handle spiritual opposition because she is superior to it.
