GUIDANCE           Things are in the way … long term in the way … and you hang in there, and you achieve your purpose precisely because of the interference, developing a skill … or more than one … that you otherwise would not have. Like I have said before, we should write a thank-you note to people who get in our way and help us develop the muscles of our psyche, because theirs is usually an unrewarding effort.

.

.

Are YOU here for the first time? Come in!

Ten of Wands Ten of Wands tends to mean ‘too much,’ ‘too many,’ ‘a lot,’ and such phrases. He has taken on too much (bit off more than he can chew) because it saves a trip. Even though this is slow (One of Ten of Wands’ main words is ‘eventually.’), it saves time because only once does he have to make the trip. That’s his story.

.

What he is doing is hard, so, difficult tasks, difficulty itself, and hard times belong to Ten of Wands – which is a theme you will find Five of Pentacles in, but Five of Pentacles has no reward to the hard times.

.

Ten of Wands will bring you words that end in ‘-er’ because it means ‘more of’ – words like longer, harder. Ten of Wands translates: too, the more, all, total, a bellyful, very much, overwhelming, weighs in, hard times, and hang in there. The ‘all’ application of Ten of Wands brings some phrases you don’t think of right off the bat – phrases like ‘every last one of them.’

.

Since Ten of Wands is going slowly, it owns some ‘time’ phrases – like ‘after all this time,’ and ‘far too long’ and of course ‘eventually,’ which we already took note of.

.

Ordeals that drag you down like we see this fellow going through can be depressing, and that exhausted, overextended, burnt-out sick-of-it-all feeling belongs to Ten of Wands. Depression (grief, sadness, sorrow, regret, etc.) is a well-populated theme in Rider Waite’s Tarot Verbatim.™

ChariotThis picture doesn’t tell a passerby much at all: You have to know charioteers were the warriors and the strategists in charge of victory in their day. (Google ‘Chariot Tarot Verbatim’ because I have written a tome about this in other posts.) Chariot isn’t being his esoteric (otherworldly) self today. Today Chariot is his basic self: he chooses, he decides, he is responsible, he is the project manager, is in charge, is Type A, is getting things done, is the driver, the leader, the manager. He makes it, he achieves, he gets it done.

.

Chariot gets his project done by any means possible. He is famous for using all the factors, including the opposing factors, as fodder for his progress and his victory. Today Two of Cups accompanies him. Two of Cups represents those unforeseen or hidden pitfalls, and Two of Cups also means to make use of a person, to misrepresent. Two of Cups and Chariot, therefore, are a story of the champion outwitting the unintended consequences, the hidden agendas … the headwind his sailboat tacks against.

Two of Cups Here you have the sharp rocks beneath the foam of the waves as you barefoot the waterline of the beach. Two of Cups’ core basic meaning is a third-party interest that is undeclared. While it can be somebody with an agenda, a mooch, snooping, a cheating lover, embezzlement, a con artist, and all that, it can also be tax, a loophole, a lien, an attraction for someone or something, a sexual attraction, benefiting from something you aren’t directly involved in (your husband’s Social Security boosting your retirement check), being affected one way or the other by anything like a law, a silent partner, multi-level marketing where one person gets a cut or a reward based on another’s efforts. I have named all this so you can get the gist of the basic underlying meaning of Two of Cups.

.

So how does this Two of Cups get all those meanings? See that funky thing in the air between the two lovers who are ‘pledging their troth’ (announcing an engagement back in the day when that was final and forever)? It is a spirit that is executing a spell on one or both of the parties. This caduceus was even used by Moses when some snakes were biting people, and it was used by the Egyptians that trained Moses when he was a prince there. Even the medical profession has adopted it, probably from back in the day when doctors were also priests and magicians.

.

Today, next to Chariot, Two of Cups says ‘back seat driver.’ Today here are some of Two of Cups’ translates: these dependents; they mess with you, in love but mismatched or mismated; the glass ceiling; secret vice; wise-guy; a supposed friend; a grand love affair; a friend of a friend; the dark side; smooth operator; a lemon or hidden defect; unintended consequences; got sucked into this; a behind-closed-doors deal.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

                      LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES..

.. ….. …     ..

.

Ten of Wands exacerbates and extends whatever he is involved in. You see someone taking it a step at a time because he is overloaded, so he is making slow but steady progress. Remember: He WILL make it – that’s Tarot tradition.

.

Chariot will make it too, and make it in spite of whatever the challenge is, too. The difference in these two cards’ meanings as to the success of making it is: Ten of Wands does get where he’s going eventually, and he is exhausted in all likelihood; Chariot is the champion, the winner – he makes it with glory.

.

Two of Cups in this story represents that impeding factor both the other cards speak of. Two of Cups is what slows Ten of Wands down, and Two of Cups is Chariot’s challenge … is what his battle or his war – his project – is all about.

So our story kind of says: Heroes and champions are made under pressure.

If something is worth doing, it is worth doing right. You heard that too. Putting shoulder to wheel is the way to get the cart moving forward. The cart is overloaded, but you’ve got the determination to put your muscle to best use on the wheel of that cart, and you (and the cart) are gonna arrive at that finish line.
