.

Hierophant That’s the pope in the red robe. He and his fellow religious are doing their usual ceremony the usual way for the public to see and accept. Hierophant is about appearances, respectability, what is accepted and expected, the usual, being straight, the normal, the routine. Hierophant is about what should be, conforming, behaving, morality, tradition, the rules and playing by the rules. It’s about the daily mundane, and the mindset of business as usual.

.

Hierophant is also about what is safe, about a safe place and copacetic situation. Hierophant means ‘no harm’ and ‘no danger,’ so it can tell you a situation you ask about is okay.

.

Hierophant is about ‘face.’ It translates ‘stereotype.’ It also translates ‘in the real world’ and ‘reality.’

.

Not so much today, but you will find Hierophant referring to being entitled, and deserving. This arises from a whole category of Hierophant meanings about ‘papers’: certificates, titles, names, licenses.

Nine of Pentacles Observe a woman wearing a robe at high noon in the vineyard with her falcon, a snail at her feet indicating she does things in her own sweet time.

.

Main branches of Nine of Pentacles’ meaning arise from her staying contentedly at home, or at wherever she is; her having enough money to run her life as she chooses … and her managing whatever she is involved in singlehandedly. Nine of Pentacles isn’t a team player, is the independent and entrepreneurial type, tends to be in a niche of her own, and tends to own her space, own her turf. She is usually a single woman – and if married, the spread is only about her.

.

Here’s a woman who lives alone and loves it, who minds her own business and expects us to mind our own as well. She pays whatever’s going on outside little mind and is fine with whatever it is.

.

Quite often Nine of Pentacles represents the stage of romance in which the fellow gets interested in the woman because the woman isn’t acting interested in him.

Eight of Cups Eight of Cups hath a story behind it which telleth its all. A pilgrim’s progress is hindered by a mountain he has to go around. The illustration comes with an assumption he will resume course, but Eight of Cups also expands to tell of any sort of detour, dropping out, quitting, going A. W. O. L., leaving behind, aborting course, abandoning, departure – or even things aren’t the way they used to be … or any kind of ‘isn’t anymore’ situation. Isn’t like she usually is, in one thing and out of another, no longer (whatever).

.

Eight of Cups will also operate as a negator when the phrase is about progress or about ‘going’: don’t go where.

.

Eight of Cups is also about unexpected events, with phrases today like these: happens without notice; just like that!; is unexpectedly; all of a sudden.

.

.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

               LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES..

.. ….. …      .

.

Here are two cards about . being established, about . peace and quiet, and another that means a shift into or out of one place or thing to another, and that card of change ( Eight of Cups) does not designate what kind of change. So without context (without a question to go by, without a background story, without other cards to lend context) the change can be about an unexpected disruption ( Eight of Cups) of the peace and quiet a person is living in, or it can be an unexpected shift that gives a person the peace and quiet. (Always remember the maxim re Tarot ‘The cards read both ways,’ and that doesn’t limit them necessarily to either of only two stories.

.

Nine of Pentacles and Eight of Cups say both ‘ The woman is left behind’ and ‘ the woman leaves where she is staying.’ Hierophant and Eight of Cups say both ‘ abruptly behaving’ and not behaving anymore.’ Oh, that Eight of Cups is one sneaky card that way!

.

Nine of Pentacles is ensconced, is staying. Eight of Cups is leaving. Hierophant means safety, the way things are supposed to be. So we have ‘ leaving here for safety’ and ‘ leaving the safe place.’

.

But one thing is for sure in our story: Nine of Pentacles is about the woman who stands her ground, is where she wants to be, and is content there. The other two cards say things are the way they are supposed to be, Hierophant, and there’s a shift or change.

. …..       ..

.

.

AND NOW WITHOUT THE PICTURES:

.

Here are two cards about being established, about peace and quiet, and another that means a shift into or out of one place or thing to another, and that card of change (Eight of Cups) does not designate what kind of change. So without context (without a question to go by, without a background story, without other cards to lend context) the change can be about an unexpected disruption (Eight of Cups) of the peace and quiet a person is living in, or it can be an unexpected shift that gives a person the peace and quiet. (Always remember the maxim re Tarot ‘the cards read both ways,’ and that doesn’t limit them necessarily to either of only two stories.

.

Nine of Pentacles and Eight of Cups say both ‘The woman is left behind’ and ‘the woman leaves where she is staying.’ Hierophant and Eight of Cups say both ‘abruptly behaving’ and ‘not behaving anymore.’ Oh, that Eight of Cups is one sneaky card that way!

.

Nine of Pentacles is ensconced, is staying. Eight of Cups is leaving. Hierophant means safety. So we have ‘leaving here for safety’ and ‘leaving the safe place.’

.

But one thing is for sure in our story: Nine of Pentacles is about the woman who stands her ground, is where she wants to be, and is content there. The other two cards say things are the way they are

. …..      ..

.

.

.

.

Here you are minding your own business in peace and quiet, and up comes some unexpected blip-on-the-screen workaround. It’s okay, you calmly accept a disruption or speed bump now and then – that’s perfectly normal, and you are expert at holding your ground, and holding your course, gracefully.

Tarot Readings for You for August 23, 2017 Wednesday©

Here’s a lady who is trying to figure out why love interest comes back. We have not done a reading here on Commitment Phobia, on the man-think behind it. She shares that experience with us.

.

Are you wondering what happened to the lessons? The techs. It seems it’s not feasible to resume the lessons automatically, as I really wanted. So they are setting it up so you can buy individually the lessons you miss if you want to.

.

Reminding you that this email lesson post is just like all the email lessons I do, and you can buy one whenever you like.

to get out of – Eight of Cups

being her husband. – King of Wands

Men don’t think like women. These spreads are the perfect description of Commitment Phobia. A guy loves a gal but hates ‘being tied down.’

.

We tend to think, when we have found Mr. or Mrs. Right, that we are in the right relationship. ‘Taint so, necessarily. Mr. Right’s idea of relationship does not include commitment, marriage, or letting you affect his ways of doing things. Note both positive marriage cards (Ten of Cups and Four of Wands) and all the cards about regret and resistance and ending it.

.

When a person finds himself or herself in a relationship with someone he or she loves, but the relationship is not his or her cup of tea, a back-and-forth pattern occurs.

.

We describe him trying to get out of the spider web of Love, only to come back to its sticky embrace. So this may be a pattern developing.

.

This pattern is really extreme when you have the smell-good thing goin’. If he smells really really good to you, it’s a Mother Nature bond based on the fact your and his genes are opposite. Mother Nature knows your offspring will not have defects (because it takes the same copy of the gene on each side for the gene to be expressed), so Mother Nature is complicit in your relationship.

.

These relationships are soulmate pairings, and they are not easy.

.

.

Magician Today’s readings are a great example of how Magician gets swallowed up by other cards’ meanings because Magician means: do, start, make, initiate or initiative. Those words are inferred in the meanings of some other cards. Today Magician and Eight of Cups are about not doing something or not doing it anymore. Today Magician and Six of Pentacles are about the doing of: paying bills, treating other people right, giving respect or attention, doing ‘it’ right.

.

Magician in Rider Waite represents the active principle, represents the doing (not the thinking or anything else, just action). Refer to the two-card combination parts at the end of this post to see how Magician gets swallowed up in the action that other cards specify the nature of.

Eight of Cups A pilgrim, the story here is, detours around a mountain, going out of his way. The pilgrim will resume his direction once past the obstacle, and bear in mind Eight of Cups sometimes means that.

.

Eight of Cups is on a journey: He has left but has not arrived. That is true of Six of Swords as well. But Six of Swords’ journey is going from one place to another directly, and Eight of Cups encounters a disruption, goes off the road (in any sense), or aborts course. Eight of Cups is leaving, quitting, dropping out, walking away, not showing up (A. W. O. L.).

.

Look for Eight of Cups to mean a change. Look for it to mean ‘on the road’ or traveling. It is one of several cards that mean to switch from one to another or to switch direction.

.

Eight of Cups means to drop out, as well as to go out of your way, two opposite things.

.

Eight of Cups also means a disruption or interruption.

.

So Eight of Cups has odd meanings. It is not an anchor card; you fit it into the others, usually. The beginning and ending moon phases can mean things like: a month, ‘burning the midnight oil,’ dusk, twilight. You get a feel for what this card is talking about, with experience. (If you are looking for exhaustive meanings for this Eight of Cups fellow, Google ‘Eight of Cups Tarot Verbatim’ and the archives will spill all. Be sure to click on the ‘more’ after the usual six or so beginning items.)

.

In its present company, Eight of Cups is acting as a negator (negative modifier), which isn’t its usual function.

Six of Pentacles He has some scales and the coins he pays them with for what they do for him. Treating people right and doing the right thing are major portions of Six of Pentacles’ meanings. The point is fairness because he is going by the weight of the gold that’s left in the coins rather than the face value. Six of Pentacles is a fair exchange; is commerce; is a paycheck or labor expense. It is also the card for making payments.

.

An exchange involves both giving and receiving, of course. And the scales bring justice into the dictionary of Six of Pentacles.

.

This exchange extends to paying attention, giving respect and getting it, and getting what is deserved (either way). The act of dropping the coins into the hands of other people, along with the fact Six of Pentacles is about ‘treating’ people fairly, stretches this card to dispensing medicines and treating people medically. Six of Pentacles translates ‘treatment.’

.

.

.

.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

                   LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES

.

. …..       ..

Magician tends to fade into the meaning of other cards when they are talking about doing something, so that Magician’s ‘ do’ phrase is extraneous. This makes Eight of Cups translate ‘ doesn’t,’ a negative modifier, which isn’t its real function. An action card (Six of Pentacles in this case) modified by Eight of Cups ends up saying he isn’t paying, but the literal interpretation would be something like: ‘ What he is doing is, he is not (fill in the other card’s meaningSix of Pentacles in this case).’ So ‘ isn’t paying his bills’ for Eight of Cups and Six of Pentacles … because we would not say ‘ what he is doing is not paying his bills.’ Eight of Cups means ‘ to avoid’ or ‘ avoiding,’ and it would be equally awkward, language-wise, to say ‘ What he is doing is avoiding paying.’ Eight of Cups says ‘ ain’t doin’ it’ with Magician, but Eight of Cups, as I said, isn’t really a negator … that’s not his job as a rule. It’s a matter of phrasing in English.

.

As a member of the justice Tarot tribe, Six of Pentacles may translate ‘right’: treat me right, do what’s proper.

.

As a member of the financial Tarot tribe, Six of Pentacles may translate ‘affordable,’ ‘for that price,’ ‘pays off,’ ‘payback,’ ‘paycheck,’ and ‘pays me for that.’

.

Often the presence of Eight of Cups in a three-card spread makes conflicting stories because Eight of Cups is incompletion, and it can apply to either of the other two cards. In real-life Tarot practice, the question or other ‘knowns’ will supply how to interpret.

.

So Six of Pentacles is getting paid, Magician is doing it, and Eight of Cups can be about not getting paid or not doing it. See? Or getting paid for not doing.

.

The fairness theme of Six of Pentacles extends to legal proceedings: See the scales of justice there? The word ‘dispense’ is called up sometimes, and so is ‘give,’ of course. The ‘dispense’ and ‘give’ meanings stretch to include prescription medications.

. …..      ..

.

NOW WITHOUT THE PICTURES

Magician tends to fade into the meaning of other cards when they are talking about doing something, so that Magician’s ‘do’ phrase is extraneous. This makes Eight of Cups translate ‘doesn’t,’ a negative modifier, which isn’t its real function. An action card (Six of Pentacles in this case) modified by Eight of Cups ends up saying he isn’t paying, but the literal interpretation would be something like: ‘What he is doing is, he is not (fill in the other card’s meaningSix of Pentacles in this case).’ So ‘he isn’t paying his bills’ for Eight of Cups and Six of Pentacles … because we would not say ‘what he is doing is not paying his bills.’ Eight of Cups means ‘to avoid’ or ‘avoiding,’ and it would be equally awkward, language-wise, to say ‘What he is doing is avoiding paying.’ Eight of Cups says ‘ain’t doin’ it’ with Magician, but Eight of Cups, as I said, isn’t really a negator … that’s not his job as a rule.

Noticing things not usually noticed today. We are talking about change today: the change that is the effect from things not being done anymore, whether it’s not making payments anymore, not taking those pills anymore, to quit being the one to make the first move. We are talking also about the change that is about things beginning to happen: doing something about not paying bills on time; just doing it with no thought of reward; starting medical treatment and what a nice change; going out of your way to do the right thing, or take the initiative.

Many fellows want to keep their teenage years freedoms, and this makes them fear a relationship, even one they chose and maintained. There comes a point where they either wear themselves out fighting it, and give in and have a good relationship, or they chicken out and run away. Your guy has ‘crossed his Rubicon’: He is deciding to stay.

.

Looks like his view of you being able to be independent and take care of yourself is a big plus to him. When fellows feel that way, some of them complain about or resent that fact. Go figure.

.

The last two spreads are a great example of why not to fear ‘bad cards.’

.

Client’s comments:

Hello Emily,

Thank you for the reading, it soothed me a bit even if I don’t truly believe he will be mine forever.  The cards were on point for several keys, even though I gave you nothing to really go on.  You have permission to share, leaving out my name.

The cards identified me as an independent woman that can care for myself, and you intuitively said that he actually likes that about me, he does.  Also, “I become my best self here, but don’t want to admit it”.  He is likely at his best performance with me (what keeps him coming back). He would never admit he needs me or has feelings because we are in a modern “situationship” and says he wants casual only.  But it feels more than that!

“Happy now, won’t demand my way”.  He has been coming to visit twice as much as usual, and has not put any new restrictions lately (he unfriended me on everything during last break up, now he seems to have relaxed a bit, still not on media though).  The part about him being miserable when he starts a fight to break up, now I know he was miserable without me, and he comes back even if I do something he hates.

He plays games, but I call him out on it.  I have tolerated alot, but on the things that I won’t, I have not been easy on him (but still take him back, ugh, he is so dreamy!).

I still don’t know if he secretly loves me…kinda think it shows, but he hides it.  He will not be with me forever, but maybe at this moment he feels like he could mess with me forever, ha-ha.  I need to do another reading to ask why he won’t be in a “real” relationship with me.  So this will be two parts.

Tarot Readings for You for July 26, 2017 Wednesday©

Jul 25, 2017 by

She wants to peek in on the social life of her love interest whom she is realistic about. She is a student of Tarot Verbatim, so she asked me to enlarge on the application of the individual cards.

.

P. S.  I was engaged in delivering a 3-card spread, the usual analysis this site provides, and my word processing program decided to declare war and lose the document, so lost the techs could not find it in the cloud.  (Friends don’t let friends buy Dell.)  And, yes, I am now going through all those lessons I have written for you, more than 200 pages of them now, hoping to launch beginning in August.  So save your pennies for me.

My question:  What is going on between my love interest and his “friend”?
.

Ten of Wands – Seven of Cups – Ten of Pentacles

This is a relationship that is part of membership in a circle of mixed-up, dysfunctional, or screwed-up people, and it has lasted as long as it has precisely because it is not real and is out-of-control. These are three heavy cards, and they amplify one another. This looks like a hang-out that is deteriorating:

People who are, or who have, a problem. A circle of troubled folks. Trouble with other people, and other people are trouble. A complicated relationship. Accursed relatives, coworkers, neighbors, friends or associates. – Ten of Pentacles

Out of control, mixed-up, makes no sense, disorganized, messed-up … don’t know WHAT to do with it. – Seven of Cups

to the extreme. For a long time or it drags on forever. Too much. Tired of this. Depressing. Overwhelmed. [‘Overwhelmed’ picks up Seven of Cups’ ‘don’t know what to do with this’ meaning.] Ten of Wands maximizes its stable-mates, so it maximizes the group of mixed-up people. – Ten of Wands

.

.

Five of Swords – Ace of Pentacles – Ace of Cups

There’s a rivalry situation going on, and your man is winning with this woman’s cooperation. I am picturing office workers in a largish company, or even a pool hall, and some dame is the queen of the chics, so anyone she talks to has bragging (or strutting) rights in the social order.

Your person of interest is pictured as the bastard in Five of Swords, which also means rivalry – guys fighting for domination.

Ace of Pentacles is the main card for success, and for reward.

Ace of Cups is ‘the cooperation of’ and going along with something. Yes, it’s the true love card, but not with Five of Swords hanging around.

.

.

Eight of Cups – Hierophant – Nine of Pentacles

She has a life of her own without him. She is in her own world, minding her own business. Nothing official here, and physical contact has been cut off.

Nine of Pentacles – A woman minds her own business. She has a life, is in her own private world, and he isn’t part of it. She don’t need nobody.

Eight of Cups and Hierophant – Hierophant is the ‘real physical world, what shows, the official story, the paper thing, and commitment. It is also things being normal, harmless, and clean. Put it next to Eight of Cups and you add ‘not anymore’ to all of those. So they are not an item – it was over with before it began – or they are not an item anymore. Eight of Cups is ‘outta there,’ off the road, derailed and aborted.

.

.

Queen of Cups – Magician – Hermit

She sees him as a fellow who does things for her, and as someone who is a friend and not sexual.

Queen of Cups – She thinks of her man, or her view of anything, including a fellow. It’s about her view.

Magician – male who acts. What he does. The guy takes the initiative.

Hermit – A friend who helps. Someone who doesn’t have sex (or is monogamous or devoted (but not in this story: Five of Swords is definitive.)

Magician takes the initiative; Hermit comes to the other person. These two suggest he comes to her, she does not come to him. Nine of Pentacles supports that idea.

Notice out of 12 cards, there’s nothing about sex, and there are indications of not being sexual. Even an explanation for that: the membership in the crew. Bragging rights.

.

If I am correct about her being the queen of the crew, he isn’t her guy but a hanger-on. Are they having some kind of casual sexual contact? – maybe, but nothing ‘official.’

.

Once again, according to Tarot, she isn’t the reason your love interest isn’t with you, unless his whole world is the office or pool hall place, whatever it is, and he sublimates sexual feelings into being somebody in this herd. (He is not the herd bull, I am sure.)
