.

Ace of Pentacles Think of Ace of Pentacles as money and as being on the right path. It has a moral message that good people succeed: The hand holding the gold coin (pentacle) is over the straight and narrow path. And the path begins in white lilies and ends in a triumphal arch.

.

So you find Ace of Pentacles talking about money; about the straight-and-narrow and being on the Path; about good-better-best and perfect, about all sorts of applications of the word ‘right.’

Ace of Cups This is one of the difficult cards, beginning with that illustration. First, it’s good to know Ace of Cups is definitely a good card; it even means ‘good.’ It means ‘safe’ and ‘no harm.’ It means good health. It means love, true love, unconditional love, and love regarding female(s). It even means God.

.

How does it mean all that? Ace of Cups’ symbols are Roman Catholic to the bone. The dove with the Eucharist in its beak is Holy Spirit, and it heads into the five human senses – those five streams that flow into the large still body of water representing mass consciousness. So Divinity flows through a human into human mass consciousness: That is the underlying core meaning of Ace of Cups. That process represents receiving divine goodness and passing it on.

.

In your answers to common questions like today’s commentary, you find Ace of Cups meanings like the ones we have here. We have quite a few: flow (the flow of the water the dove is blessing); health; being in good shape; love and the one you love; God; easy; agree; peace; healing; safe; spiritual; comfortable; and ‘the way is clear,’ a sentiment that – in various language – Ace of Cups expresses every once in a while.

.

Ace of Cups is one of the rescue cards, of course, especially in its ‘harmless’ meanings.

Six of Swords Here’s the picture: Under gray skies, woman and child are leaving a place for a better life – leaving without possessions, paddled away at dusk or dawn in a crude small boat by a friend. Refugees from something. Six of Swords represents both despair and hope, hope because anyplace is better than this.

.

Six of Swords can apply in your inquiries as the leaving, the journey, the expected arrival, or all of the above at once – as in ‘on the way from here to there.’ This makes for potential opposite meanings, but usually Six of Swords fits into your story smoothly, so you know. Usually. Watch for it to sometimes mean ‘not anymore,’ wrapping around another card’s meaning the way Eight of Cups does.

.

Today we have good examples of this flexibility to Six of Swords. Here are its categories: (1) improving, recovering, getting over, after what I’ve been through, after all that. (2) getting underway, gets on with life, to get that, you go overseas, where I am heading, the way things are going, relocating. (3) leaving this place, the way out, getting out of there, departed, left to be with God, to exit town, getting away. (4) doesn’t anymore, putting that aside for, renunciation, leaving it all behind and getting into something else; (5) to avoid, when you shy away from. These amount to a pretty good snapshot of how Six of Swords functions in your Tarot stories.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

.. ….. …        .

Whenever you see Ace of Pentacles and Ace of Cups, you could be talking spiritual path because Ace of Pentacles is a road, way, or path and Ace of Cups is ‘ spiritual’ and all kinds of spiritual subjects. Ace of Cups refers to the presence of God or being a loving godly person, and Ace of Pentacles shows that ‘ right path’ that mystics and religions talk about. So Ace of Pentacles, with its ‘ right way’ and ‘ Path’ meanings, is potentially religious/spiritual, whereas Ace of Cups is overtly religious/spiritual.

.

Ace of Pentacles and Ace of Cups also very commonly say: perfect health, true love, love and money, easy success … so remember those. Ace of Pentacles is the ‘ perfect’ and Ace of Cups is ‘ health.’ Ace of Cups is true love, and is also just ‘ love,’ so Ace of Pentacles can emphasize the ‘true’ of ‘true love – as in Mr. or Mrs. Right? Ace of Pentacles is money and Ace of Cups is love – so ‘ love and money.’ Ace of Pentacles means success, and Ace of Cups is ‘ easy.’ With Ace of Cups meaning ‘ easy,’ these two cards say: easy money, easy way to, the easiest route. Perfect comfort, too, because Ace of Cups (‘ Go with the flow.’) expands to comfort, and to relaxing. Also note that both of these cards will translate ‘ benefit.’

.

Six of Swords is ‘ getting over’ or ‘ getting past’ a situation, and Ace of Cups is in good shape so these two cards paired make stories about surviving something. These two cards also describe leaving something behind in order to be good or spiritual, which amounts to renunciation of a past life. ( Ace of Pentacles would add being on the Path to that.)

.

The perfect relaxing getaway: Ace of Pentacles as perfect, Ace of Cups as relaxing, Six of Swords as a getaway. getting better with Six of Swords; they are perfect with Ace of Pentacles.

.

Hanged Man This dizzy-ish feeling you get when something dawns on you, hits you, that ‘you knew all along.’ The picture depicts that (blood rushing to the head from being upside-down), and yet it’s based on a number of myths from all over the world in which the star character sacrifices himself on a tree for three days, giving a body part in exchange (with the gods) for the magic abilities and psychic insights that translate ‘wisdom’ when you read about them.

.

Hanged Man’s words are all about thinking, feeling, awareness, mind, inspiration, enlightenment, flashback, remembering and recalling, and other terms like ‘get it’ and ‘strikes’ regarding understanding. This Tarot card also represents the idea involved. It generates ‘suddenly’ and ‘instantly’ when that refers to incoming thought or feeling. Like love at first sight or the realization about that lipstick on the collar.

.

Hanged Man is an intense experience, and this card owns ‘intense’ and ‘intensely.’ The energy halo around Mr. Hanged Man’s head draws words with ‘brain’ and ‘head’ in them.

Nine of Pentacles She minds her own business and she has a business to mind. That’s Ms. Nine of Pentacles, another ‘not available; don’t call me, I’ll call you’ card in Tarot Verbatim. She is content, and she has things under control, whether this applies to business, management of a household, or personal life. ‘The girl’s got it made.’ Nine of Pentacles is self-sufficient, confident, is in charge, is comfortable with who she is, is independent and grown up, not to mention how competent she is.

.

But the focus of Nine of Pentacles is on the fact that she did it her way, and she has it her way. The falcon and the fact she is wearing a robe at midday, and the snail, are clues that she does things in her own sweet time. Don’t ask her for a loan, and ‘Don’t call her, she’ll call you.’

.

Nine of Pentacles has her own home (probably owns it) as well as a life of her own. She manages that home and that life (and any business she relates to) smoothly. She is likely to live alone, and to be a single woman.

.

Nine of Pentacles is experienced in the Jimi Hendrix sense of the word: She has been there, done that, and survived it. Nine of Pentacles is famous for acting like she doesn’t know ya.

Six of Cups That lovely illustration applies to more things than you would expect. The most obvious is children and childhood, which also extends to one’s background, the way one grew up – even to the place or home one grew up on.

.

Equally obvious is that Six of Cups is love and romance. Little Boy Gives Little Girl Flowers. It is also a gift because of that, and likely occasions for the gift are Valentine’s Day – and birthday because of the child theme.

.

Six of Cups represents all the warm fuzzy thoughts and feelings that are elements in your Tarot story: the sweet life, cozy, comfortable, cozy home. That expands to a safe home (good neighborhood for children), which expands a little further to real estate applications.

.

Six of Cups also is about trust. ‘You can trust this person,’ Six of Cups can say. And it also can indicate someone is naive or trusting.

.

.

.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

                LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES..

.. ….. …        .

Both Nine of Pentacles and Six of Cups are at home, and both mean the good life. Hanged Man is intense feeling, and Six of Cups is nostalgia, a warm fuzzy feeling. Nine of Pentacles, however, is equally associated with home ownership and prowess in business. And Hanged Man is also knowing, in a broad sense as well as subconscious and psychic knowing.

.

Nine of Pentacles and Six of Cups bring to my mind easily a woman who, as someone with expert knowledge, has a home business. Remember, in the back of your mind ‘ home business’ for Nine of Pentacles and Six of Cups. Other cards can also say ‘ home business.’ Nine of Pentacles all by itself can say ‘ home business.’ Hanged Man’s presence can make that a psychic who has a home business, or a bright idea for a home business.

.

Hanged Man remembers, and Six of Cups is a memory.

.

Then Six of Cups is a very well established romance card – tenderness, trust, warm fuzzy cozy life together. And Hanged Man is intense feeling. So together they describe being intensely in love. With Six of Cups also covering the past and childhood, that intense love can be the childhood sweetheart, or a past lover, or a memory of past love, because Six of Cups is also nostalgia and memory of the past. ( Six of Cups also simply reads ‘ the past.’ And Nine of Pentacles is a single woman.

.

Nine of Pentacles is a single woman, and Six of Cups is children. So we have the single mom.

.

Nine of Pentacles is doing well for herself, is a success, and does just fine by herself. She can be a survivor of that childhood Six of Cups refers to.

.

Nine of Pentacles’ picture shows a wealthy woman of leisure (the falcon, the vineyard), which she can be, but the focus is on the fact she’s got where she wants to be and is content. She can be the ghetto gal whose shack home has flowers and bird feeders and a garden, and she loves to cook and sew.

He is in love with a woman who is self-sufficient, who manages her personal life and her business life with equal aplomb. She may very well be a successful single mother with children, and we intensely relate to her for being who she is.

.

Four of Wands A royal or noble wedding is a public occasion. This is the basis that holds the main applications of Four of Wands together. (That’s what the illustration is, F. Y. I.)

.

So first you have the couple, marrying, marriage, the home and home life.

.

Then you have Establishment stuff about groups of people: group, company, institution, mass, people, the public, everybody, everyone, all of us, and any city, county, neighborhood, district, or country.

.

Along the same vein, you also have the feeling of belonging or unity or ‘being one of them,’ or even ‘us.’ Phrases like these: to belong, the same with them, with them, hanging together with these people, we have a consensus, my homies, one of them.

.

Not today, but Four of Wands is also the ruling class whether in a positive sense or not.

Hanged Man The picture reflects a number of myths, in quite a few different cultures, in which the leading character hangs himself for three days on a tree and sacrifices a body function or body part in return for the god(s) giving him ‘wisdom,’ which refers to magic powers and psychic awareness. (Hanged Man translates ‘sacrifice’ in some Tarot systems, but not in Tarot Verbatim™.)

.

The main words and phrases Hanged Man contributes in Tarot Verbatim™ refer to thinking, feeling, knowing, awareness, idea, opinion in a very ordinary way.

.

The next level of that concept refers to consciousness, psychic awareness, psychic impression, wavelength, catching on, inspiration, foreseeing, and likeminded consensus (mass consciousness).

.

A massive thought strikes our hero in Hanged Man – the onrush of all the dots simultaneously connecting up without a person’s permission: Boom. The experience is powerful and sudden, and that’s what sometimes happens in spiritual life. This kind of experience gives Hanged Man words like ‘urge’ and ‘intense.’ It also brings words about instinct.

Three of Wands This is one of the easiest cards to remember its meanings and how to apply it. A merchant is waiting for his ships to come in with his profit, and he knows the money (and good things, cargo) are coming because he is looking straight at the ship. (Yes, the water is yellow. There are a number of yellow printer’s errors in Rider Waite that it will never correct.)

.

So Three of Wands main meanings are: coming; the future; continuing and in process (because the ship is in transit); profit or money coming in. Good things are coming, are headed this way: That is the usual contribution of Three of Wands in most spreads.

.

Three of Wands puts surrounding cards into future tense. Sometimes that is all it does – so watch for that. Today’s ‘future’ meanings are: foresee; I’m gonna.

.

.

.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

                LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES..

.. …..           ….

Hanged Man and Three of Wands say ‘ seeing ( Hanged Man) the future ( Three of Wands).’ They also refer to a continuing, ongoing, awareness. Three of Wands is continuing, is a continuing process; Hanged Man is awareness.

.

Four of Wands and Hanged Man say ‘ mass consciousness’ ( Hanged Man is consciousness, and Four of Wands is a group of people) or ‘ an intense feeling of belonging, feeling like family.’ ( Hanged Man is intense and is also simply ‘ feeling.’ Four of Wands is belonging to a group, and also means family.) Four of Wands and Hanged Man also say ‘ people who think,’ who are likeminded. Four of Wands is ‘ people,’ and Hanged Man is the ‘ think’ part of it.

.

Four of Wands and Three of Wands refer to the future ( Three of Wands) of the group ( Four of Wands), or to a company ( Four of Wands) that continues to be, or that will be, prosperous. Three of Wands means the ‘ continues to be,’ and also means ‘ will be,’ and also means ‘ prosperous’ or profitable. Remember that you can use more than one meaning of a card in a spread … sometimes even a negative card, or a future card, but that’s a little tricky.

.

This spread can simply say ‘You will understand them.’ Three of Wands is ‘ will,’ the future. Hanged Man understands. Four of Wands is simply ‘ them,’ the group of people.

.

Three of Wands means both continuing and coming toward, so it can also translate ‘ always’ in the sense of always continuing, always coming. If the sentence assumes that something smoothly keeps being true, keeps happening, or keeps ‘whatever,’ Three of Wands applies. And you also find this distinction about ‘keeping’ in Eight of Pentacles, where his hammer blows one after the other also suggest an ongoing process, continuing.

. ……. ….. …    …. ..

.

AND NOW WITHOUT THE PICTURES:

.

Hanged Man and Three of Wands say ‘seeing (Hanged Man) the future (Three of Wands).’ They also refer to a continuing, ongoing, awareness. Three of Wands is continuing, is a continuing process; Hanged Man is awareness.

.

Four of Wands and Hanged Man say ‘mass consciousness’ (Hanged Man is consciousness, and Four of Wands is a group of people) or ‘an intense feeling of belonging, feeling like family.’ (Hanged Man is intense and is also simply ‘feeling.’ Four of Wands is belonging to a group, and also means family.) Four of Wands and Hanged Man also say ‘people who think,’ who are likeminded. Four of Wands is ‘people,’ and Hanged Man is the ‘think’ part of it.

.

Four of Wands and Three of Wands refer to the future (Three of Wands) of the group (Four of Wands), or to a company (Four of Wands) that continues to be, or that will be, prosperous. Three of Wands means the ‘continues to be,’ and also means ‘will be,’ and also means ‘prosperous’ or profitable. Remember that you can use more than one meaning of a card in a spread … sometimes even a negative card, or a future card, but that’s a little tricky.

.

This spread can simply say ‘You will understand them.’ Three of Wands is ‘will,’ the future. Hanged Man understands. Four of Wands is simply ‘them,’ the group of people.

.

Three of Wands means both continuing and coming toward, so it can also translate ‘always’ in the sense of always continuing, always coming. If the sentence assumes that something smoothly keeps being true, keeps happening, or keeps ‘whatever,’ Three of Wands applies. And you also find this distinction about ‘keeping’ in Eight of Pentacles, where his hammer blows one after the other also suggest an ongoing process, continuing.

. ……. ….. …….      ..

.

.

.

.…..………..

Being intensely aware of mass consciousness pays off in all sorts of ways. You clearly see what is going on, and what will be going on, with the people around you when you can feel what they are thinking, feel it in your gut. Just tuning in to the ongoing process is developing psychic awareness in yourself. Try it.

Tarot Readings: Hanged Man and Five of Wands

HANGED MAN FIVE OF WANDS

An urge to fight it out in court.

Inspired to fight for being treated fairly.

You know how hard it is to make money.

A premonition it’s gonna be hard to collect.

Resist the urge to give them what they deserve.

Your subconscious is busy dropping input to you.

Your subconscious tries mightily to give you an idea.

Remind yourself how one struggles to get paid for that.

.

Tarot Readings: Hanged Man and Six of Pentacles

HANGED MAN SIX OF PENTACLES

You got the right idea: exercise.

Passing on the ideas I struggle with.

An inrush of mental clarity and energy.

The urge to pay them back in the fight.

Gives you the inspiration to get involved.

You receive this vision, and you act on it.

Feel strongly about getting paid for your efforts.

Of a mind to give the opposition what they deserve.

His idea of what he should be paid conflicts with yours.

My idea of what I should be paid conflicts with (theirs).

.

Tarot Readings: Five of Wands and Six of Pentacles

FIVE OF WANDS SIX OF PENTACLES

We are given a fighting instinct.

It’s a fair fight in my perspective.

I get moving when I get the motivation.

You are opposed to giving people this idea.

You energetically give them the inspired idea.

Paid according to how difficult it is thought to be.

The right way is the hard way,’ my intuition says.

Pay your bills no matter how hard it is,’ my gut tells me.

He gets what he deserves when he fights with you: He knows this.

Hanged Man Hanged Man expresses the way you feel when a new realization or perspective – often a subconscious one – turns your world upside down. The energy halo around his head, the fact he is upside-down, and his hanging from a tree express that dizzying feeling. The other two cards in our today’s spread keep Hanged Man from his esoteric applications today.

.

Today Hanged Man is being his mundane everyday self. Today he mainly means: know, got the idea, mental, subconscious premonition, intuition, gut, vision, idea, thought, mind, and remind.

.

Hanged Man also the Rider Waite Tarot card for ‘the urge to,’ inspired and inspiration, instinct and instinctive, and motivation. Since Hanged Man means ‘inspired’ and means ‘idea,’ he means ‘inspired idea.’

Five of Wands Those guys are working up a sweat, whatever they are doing – whether sport, exercise, or fight. Five of Wands involves movement and energy. Five of Wands usually reflects expending energy in some struggle. It also is about trying, trying hard, and some endeavor that is difficult.

.

Here are some of its habitual word groups: fight it out, fight for, resist, how hard it is, how difficult,, the hard way, busy, tries mightily, struggle with, exercise, energy, get moving, energetically. Five of Wands is definitely getting involved, acting on it, and your effort.

.

Favorite words of Mr. Five of Wands are opposition and conflict. Opposed to.

Six of Pentacles – Six of Pentacles Three of Pentacles and Six of Pentacles are both about an exchange, which means they can translate the giving part, the receiving part, or both. Temperance has a similar set of meanings, but a different application.

.

The main meaning of Six of Pentacles is fairness, a fair exchange, a fair deal. (Yes, and Three of Pentacles is ‘doing one’s part fair and square.’) Being treated fairly; give them what they deserve; get what you deserve; what he should be paid; it’s fair.

.

Six of Pentacles also means paying and being paid: pay, get paid, collect, pay back, make money, pay bills. And Six of Pentacles means giving and receiving: dropping input to; to give you; passing on; an inrush; gives you; you receive; we are given; when I get; giving people, give them.

.

Doing right, doing the right thing, the right way: These belong to Six of Pentacles, but it doesn’t boldly translate ‘right’ all by itself, with no one to put him up to it. Quite a few other Tarot cards fill that bill.

.

.

.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

                   LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES..

.. ….. …        .

.

When your spread has more than one pair of cards that make common phrases, you tend to have a lot of stories, a lot of potential different meanings. This is one such spread.

.

Fighting for what’s fair’ jumps out from these three cards, with Hanged Man adding intense passion to the endeavor, or adding an urge to fight. Since Six of Pentacles, with its scales of justice, can reflect on court proceedings, we could be fighting it out in court. Or we could have a brilliant idea ( Hanged Man) for the court fight.

.

Hanged Man is mental (see the energy around his head) and Five of Wands is energy, so: mental energy. (Be aware Hanged Man can mean that phrase all by itself too.) Hanged Man is inspiration, so one is inspired in the struggle of Five of Wands. Hanged Man and Six of Pentacles say ‘ getting the idea’ or even ‘ giving (someone/them) the idea.’ (Cards that show an exchange mean both the giving and the getting side of the exchange.) This pair of Tarot cards also says one is inspired to be treated fairly, or to treat others with the respect they are due. Hanged Man and Six of Pentacles also say ‘ gives you the inspiration.’

.

Five of Wands also represents engaging in something difficult, so you know ( Hanged Man) how difficult … and Six of Pentacles adds to that ‘ paying the bills is’ or even ‘ collecting your money is.’

Both Hanged Man and Five of Wands are intense, and both involve energy – mental energy in Hanged Man’s case. Six of Pentacles is being given or getting, so someone is being given energy – possibly through prescription or treatment, since Six of Pentacles’ picture of the coins changing hands can be about pills being prescribed or given – or getting the pills of course. Six of Pentacles also stretches to ‘ treatment’ in the medical sense, since it owns the word as part of its ‘ fair treatment’ meaning.

.

Five of Wands means ‘ resist’ as well as fight. And Hanged Man is an urge … so ‘ resist the urge.’

.

Hanged Man is the subconscious, and specifically the subconscious causing a sudden conscious awareness, and Six of Pentacles is receiving input. If you interpret Five of Wands as activity, and use the word ‘ busy’ to fit into the sentence: The subconscious is busy dropping input into you. Or you could phrase it: The subconscious tries mightily to give you an idea – because Hanged Man is ‘ an idea.’

.

Although Six of Pentacles is about doing the right and proper thing, ‘ right’ is not one of its common translates – probably because so many other Tarot cards, in the Tarot Verbatim™ system, say ‘right.’ But we do say ‘ You got the right idea,’ using both the ‘ receiving’ meaning of Six of Pentacles and the ‘ right.’ That flows because Hanged Man and Six of Pentacles are clearly saying ‘ you got the idea.’ In this case, Five of Wands provides that that right idea is exercise.

.

Five of Wands is ‘ getting involved,’ in a wholehearted way of course. So we have ‘ gives you the inspiration to get involved.’

.

On a different page, Six of Pentacles is giving someone what they deserve. And that can be whether what they deserve is a good thing or a bad thing. Since Five of Wands is fighting, and is the opposition, here’s ‘ the idea to give the opposition what they deserve’ and ‘ they get what they deserve for fighting (or for violence, of course). Coincidentally the same three cards also say ‘ opposed to the idea of giving them the recognition or respect or reward that they deserve.’

. ……. ….. …….       ..

.

AND NOW WITHOUT THE PICTURES:

.

When your spread has more than one pair of cards that make common phrases, you tend to have a lot of stories, a lot of potential different meanings. This is one such spread.

.

Five of Wands also represents engaging in something difficult, so you know (Hanged Man) how difficult … and Six of Pentacles adds to that ‘paying the bills is’ or even ‘collecting your money is.’

Six of Pentacles also stretches to ‘treatment’ in the medical sense, since it owns the word as part of its ‘fair treatment’ meaning.

.

Five of Wands means ‘resist’ as well as fight. And Hanged Man is an urge … so ‘resist the urge.’

.

Hanged Man is the subconscious, and specifically the subconscious causing a sudden conscious awareness, and Six of Pentacles is receiving input. If you interpret Five of Wands as activity, and use the word ‘busy’ to fit into the sentence: The subconscious is busy dropping input into you. Or you could phrase it: The subconscious tries mightily to give you an idea – because Hanged Man is ‘an idea.’

.

Although Six of Pentacles is about doing the right and proper thing, ‘right’ is not one of its common translates – probably because so many other Tarot cards, in the Tarot Verbatim™ system, say ‘right.’ But we do say ‘You got the right idea,’ using both the ‘receiving’ meaning of Six of Pentacles and the ‘right.’ That flows because Hanged Man and Six of Pentacles are clearly saying ‘you got the idea.’ In this case, Five of Wands provides that that right idea is exercise.

.

Five of Wands is ‘getting involved,’ in a wholehearted way of course. So we have ‘gives you the inspiration to get involved.’

.

On a different page, Six of Pentacles is giving someone what they deserve. And that can be whether what they deserve is a good thing or a bad thing. Since Five of Wands is fighting, and is the opposition, here’s ‘the idea to give the opposition what they deserve’ and ‘they get what they deserve for fighting (or for violence, of course). Coincidentally the same three cards also say ‘opposed to the idea of giving them the recognition or respect or reward that they deserve.’

. ……. ….. ……. ..

.

.

.

.…..………..

We are given a fighting instinct, we mammals. Its highest and best use is the way we are turned on to accomplish something difficult, especially when, in the pit of our stomach, we feel strongly that it’s also right. Of course, the opposition to what’s right arises from the same instinct, framed in a different way in different people.

GUIDANCE                        What she wants, and what he is or has, don’t jibe. Two assertive people who would otherwise jell, repel. He has too much of something for her, or she wants too much of something from him from his point of view … or both. Mama expects him to be more successful, and wife feels he is too sexy. Mama feels he is her proud son, and wife feels he is full of himself. We look for matches in all sorts of categories, don’t we, to get along?

.

.

LEARN SINGLE TAROT CARDS BY PICTURES.

GET A SINGLE CARD’S MEANINGS: TYPE ITS NAME AND ‘TAROT VERBATIM’ INTO GOOGLE

.

King of Pentacles We all know this guy. He is the ‘full of himself’ stereotype. Very proud. Manipulative. Sometimes clothes-proud, a dandy. He tends to often translate Studmuffin because he is a sexpot and Italian Stallion – ‘Italian’ because the illustration has his robe flamboyant with all those grapes. And truth to tell, clients sometimes say ‘Yes, he is Italian’ when I use that phrase to mean ‘studly.’

.

Because King of Pentacles is the man with influence, sex appeal, and often money, he may appear as a rich powerful influential man, a VIP or CFO, a mobster or politician. But King of Pentacles is often the guy who dominates the pool hall or runs a restaurant. He is often the boss of whatever scene you are asking about.

.

This is the card that frequently appears when a fellow is speculating about who The Other Man is in his woman’s story. He also appears as the manipulative self-absorbed lover in a woman’s romance story.

.

Eight of CupsA temporary change of direction in our illustration gets applied very generously to all sorts of switches and changes, including ‘out with the old, in with the new.’ The pilgrim is going to get where he is going, but has to take the long way around a mountain and some streams. He aborts his course, so Eight of Cups stands for the abortion of anything – stands for the plan being scrubbed, stands for a decision not to after all. Keep an eye out for unusual applications for Eight of Cups!

.

Its first-and-foremost meanings are about leaving as the pilgrim abandons his path for a detour. Close to half the time, Eight of Cups appears for dropping out, quitting, walking off, parting company, etc.

.

Really watch out for Eight of Cups wrapping itself around another card’s contribution to modify that to ‘isn’t anymore.’ The meaning of the dominant card appears in between the isn’t and the anymore.

.

Then we have both the idea of going out of your way for something, and being ‘turned off’ by it. Eight of Cups, as a disrupter, will mean either. Or both: Eight of Cups can appear for leaving one way, or one thing, for another – making a switch.

.

He doesn’t pull it off. You didn’t when …. When he doesn’t get to be. Eight of Cups appears sometimes when some factor prevents what would have been. And sometimes it’s a temporary detour, not a sea change.

Queen of Swords Have you noticed what a ‘female chauvinist sow’ Tarot is? Lots of cards mean all sorts of nuances of bad guys, and this one Queen of Swords stands in for bad women – although the other female court cards have their negative spectrum. Well, Queen of Swords is the bitch, the complainer, the nag. Readers who protest that may find it in their own spreads after they encounter Tarot Verbatim’s™ Queen of Swords.

.

In her illustration, Queen of Swords has a sword in one hand, and her other is extended out in the gesture of ‘gimme.’ ‘Now would be good’ she is saying. I would be tempted to picture Queen of Swords, were I designing a new deck, with her hands on her hips.

.

Our illustration’s story is that this woman grieves her dead child. She is bitter about it. The bitterness spills over into all the militant meanings for Queen of Swords. She also is the mama, which spills over into being the older woman – because some Tarot citizen had to be the old woman, and no one else was. The crone. The older woman, mama, the woman who is bitter about not getting what is rightfully hers (the child), morphs further into the demanding militant nag personality … my ole lady type thing. So here we have a woman holding us up to her standards that we fall short of. I find that concept to be central to Queen of Swords’ meanings – that things aren’t the way they should be, and I am shortchanged.

.

Queen of Swords can be the real victim, or someone who feels martyred in some way – taken advantage of … ‘I don’t get no respect.’

.

But that ain’t all there is to Queen of Swords. She is also the strong woman, the warrior woman, the woman who does not back down, does not give in, and does not suffer fools even if they pay her bills. This Rider Waite Tarot card will appear as advice to a Querant to grow a spine, be strong, take a militant stance.

.

.

.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

                LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES..

.. …..           ….

Lawyers have a diplomatic term for people who are hard (for them) to handle: ‘strong personality.’ They say it with a half-sneer. Both King of Pentacles and Queen of Swords fall into that category. King of Pentacles is egotistical and self-absorbed. Queen of Swords is not going to be short-changed but is going to ‘ stand up for her rights.’ Each of them can clash with others, and they definitely can make sparks fly as a pair.

.

One would think today’s story would have to focus on their personalities because since they are ‘people cards’ (court cards), there’s no action coming from them, and the other card ( Eight of Cups) simply means all sorts of switches, changes, leaving and detouring. Stories with actual events should be scarce with these three Tarot cards.

.

So focus on their personalities we do. Paired, we have the fellow who is conceited, arbitrary, manipulative, studly, sexy and flamboyant (or any set of those traits) and the gal who is disgruntled, a stickler for high standards, older, assertive, demanding, a nag (or any set of those traits). We have the bastard and the bitch too. So, a militant man and a militant woman have nothing to do with each other.

.

But stories we do have! We have the fellow who finally has the money to move out of mama’s house, and also the mama who’s disgruntled that her proud son didn’t get to be CFO ( yet). King of Pentacles has money, so he is a good provider, but his woman expects and demands so much more – so one of them splits. We have the guy whose flamboyant sexuality is a turnoff to the woman, who disengages. Or he’s just too stylish for a no-nonsense dame. Or his ole lady threatens to leave him for being a player.

.

On the other hand, the lady has a hankering for a ‘ too sexy for my shirt’ fellow, so she leaves someone for that sort of fellow (usually younger, with no money).

.

Here is another angle: Ever since this assertive woman, he is an aggressive man. Or, she is so demanding a guy doesn’t pull off being the dictator with her. We also have him as the mobster or politician victimizing her and getting away with it. Another story that comes out here is that he owes her, he has the money, and he is avoiding her.

.

When finding stories with Eight of Cups in your spread, keep its very wide scope in mind. It’s going off course in all sorts of ways. Course will be resumed, in the illustration, but that does not have to be. So Eight of Cups is the detour, dropping out, or abruptly starting something else. It’s also literally running off the road, especially with Chariot (as vehicle) or Ace of Pentacles (as the road). Eight of Cups can mean ‘ not anymore’ and it can mean ‘ not yet’ and it can mean ‘ didn’t quite make it.’ Eight of Cups is a card to study up on someday.
