Three of Pentacles – Three of Pentacles is arguably the most versatile card in the Tarot deck. It is probably the best Tarot Verbatim™ example of how one card changes its approach with the influence of another: That is why it is the guide card to the Tarot Email Training program, introducing you to each of the other cards so the deck (your bridge to the subconscious) can talk to you.

.

Today, for example, Three of Pentacles is in the company of Eight of Pentacles, which is about work and doing something (and keeping at it). So today you see Three of Pentacles’ conference, interview, team or group of people, meeting, negotiating, dealing with, and fairness meanings – in addition to its old standbys, ‘relationship’ and ‘together.’ And today, those words are in the light of the boss man, King of Swords (or the manly man, the leader).

.

In the illustration here, the architect (who, back then when cathedrals were being built, also supervised the construction workers) meets with his clients to demonstrate the building is built according to that blueprint his clients are looking at. He demonstrates he has done his part in their contract. This is their wrap-up final formal meeting. When they agree he has done the job, he gets his final payout that represents his profit. All the words in this paragraph are meanings Three of Pentacles can bring your sentences.

.

Three of Pentacles (and Three of Cups to a lesser extent) often indicates a meeting of three people. It will show up in medical stories as doctors of different specialties putting their heads together to come to a mutual diagnosis on a given patient. You can see that that is ‘coming to agreement’ and is ‘teamwork.’

.

So today you can see this business meeting about work being done. Since Three of Pentacles’ most frequent translate is ‘relationship,’ and since we have King of Swords in our story, you can also see a relationship with that tall steely manly man (John Wayne).

King of Swords – Take a good look: This King of Swords card is one that shows up least frequently. It has the fewest index cards in my Tarot dictionary. So who is he? – he is the military leader, the man of discipline, the strong man or strongman the authority. See, he is armed with that double-edged sword he holds upright, and he sits upright too. (King of Swords can also be militant.) He is the leader and the boss. Often, King of Swords shows up to represent a man with natural leadership in his personality.

.

So King of Swords will show up for a man who has a leadership position (regardless of his individual personality) – the boss, the influential man who issues some sort of mandate, supervisor, the authority, the policeman, the lawyer – even the judge. Or the referee at a sports match: the authority. (King of Swords will show up for the word ‘authority’ sometimes, and not necessarily represent a person.)

.

In romance or social stories, King of Swords is the manly man, the leader, the tall steely dude, the boss, the dominant party in the relationship, and the ‘leader of men,’ John Wayne. (John Wayne, in my Tarot’s view, is the man every man wants to be.)

Eight of Pentacles – Now we look at someone who is engaged in getting the job done, the task done. If you have ever heard a professional carpenter hammer, you pick up on the steady consistent keeping-at-it aspect of Eight of Pentacles, which is one of its main applications: it may translate ‘steady’ and it may translate in tandem with another card ‘keep __ing,’ with the other card’s meaning where the blank in this sentence is. This ‘keeping-at-it aspect extends to phrases that mean ‘one after the other,’ similar to Eight of Wands, phrases like ‘over and over’ and ‘each and every time.’

.

And that keeping-at-it stretches to ‘always.’ Eight of Pentacles is one of many cards that can simply say ‘always,’ and the ‘always’ is in different connotations and applications.

.

Now we turn to Eight of Pentacles’ usual application: work and job. Think up any work-related word or phrase, and Eight of Pentacles is your boy for it. Today we have: work, job, his job, for employees, construction worker, everyone who works here, what they did at work, a job, my job, working on, hammer things out, for a job here, this is a job for, and this work is done by.

.

Note since our Eight of Pentacles man is a carpenter that Eight of Pentacles is construction work, or construction worker(s) specifically. Today Three of Pentacles is also a card about builders, so we have construction worker stories.

.

Lastly, Eight of Pentacles also applies to some of Magicians do/done/did/doing translates, and that includes noun clauses like ‘what he is doing.’ And of course, Eight of Pentacles isn’t limited to what a male person (or animal) does when it simply means its ‘doing’ categories.

.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

. ….. …..

Today is a great example of how cards bring out aspects in one another: King of Swords is the boss in the work of Eight of Pentacles, and is the manly man in the relationship of Three of Pentacles. Not to mention people getting together, Three of Pentacles, and getting something done (Eight of Pentacles). And King of Swords is the leader of the team (Three of Pentacles), not necessarily limited to the ‘boss’ title.

.

Moving into social relationships and romance, we see King of Swords as the manly man in a steady (Eight of Pentacles) relationship (Three of Pentacles).

.

Three of Pentacles has a legal aspect mainly because it involves the contract the architect has with his clients, the priest and nun, plus the meeting aspect – so you see a legal meeting with an authority (King of Swords) here. King of Swords is any authority, and is authority itself, so he can be a judge, a lawyer, or a policeman or other regulator (even a political authority of any sort). Keep in mind that the legal + meeting = a hearing in court before an authority, often a judge but it could be a tribunal or arbitration board conducting a hearing.

. ….. …..

.

.

AND NOW WITHOUT THE PICTURES:

.

.

A team leader at work gets everyone to keep at it and get the job done, and one of those men with the natural leadership ability in his personality is just the man for the job. He may also be just the man to keep a steady social or romantic relationship going too. Today we salute such an enabler.

Queen of Wands In Tarot Verbatim™ Queen of Wands is the main card for Wife. When she represents the gal a dude is dating, he is usually conflicted and nervous about committing, or is ready for the trip to the altar. Queen of Wands is not only the wife, but the marrying kind or ‘the kind you marry,’ the matriarch (as is Queen of Pentacles), and the housewife.

.

Queen of Wands can translate ‘domestic,’ she is so associated with home – and therefore with house. She is associated with an orderly house and an orderly home life. Also an orderly business life, where Queen of Wands tends to be the manager. So Queen of Wands maintains and organizes her corner of the world. (And by the way, the word ‘domestic’ for Queen of Wands occasionally will indicate one’s county or origin as ‘domestic country.’

.

As a person, Queen of Wands is sensible, organized, no-nonsense, pragmatic or even blunt. I think of her as The Mama and as a ‘nurse type,’ and she can be the country-woman – as King of Wands, the husband card, can be the country-boy.

Hierophant – You see a picture of the pope and his assistants doing their normal ritual, and this concept expands to most of Hierophant’s meanings. Hierophant means anything churchy. It says ‘respectable,’ and it covers words like: behave, proper, acceptable, and in good order.

.

The ritual is the ordinary doings of these people, is official business, and is done in the proper way. Hierophant’s ‘official’ meaning extends to include ‘on paper’ official things like titles, certificates, the name of something or someone. Hierophant is about keeping up appearances.

.

It’s an ordinary day these rituals are done in. You can picture the people being bored with the whole thing that they do maybe every blessed day. So Hierophant means: Perfectly normal, ordinary, safe, okay. This meaning stretches into being average, being median or middle – including being middle class.

.

Hierophant means ‘harmless’ or no harm being done – just a nice peaceful day like all the others.

.

Hierophant means ‘physical,’ as Page of Wands does. The point of Hierophant is ‘face’ or appearances in the ‘real physical world’ as opposed to the spiritual side of religion. So it will sometimes translate ‘physically.’

.

Hierophant means ‘type of person.’ It refers to the class or classification of anything. Remember that when the subject is science.

Nine of Wands Mr. Border Guard is hanging in there, sweating it out, anxious and fearful about when the enemy is going to return and wound him again. His head wound sometimes gives meanings about headache as well as worse head problems. Most of Nine of Wands meanings arise directly out of this situation. Some of his phrases are less obvious, like today’s ‘no matter what.’

.

Nine of Wands is all about bad feelings that are pretty much in the category of anxiety fear, worry, misgivings, strain, pressure, suffering through, hanging in there, being defensive, dread, being uneasy, and being on guard.

.

Nine of Wands also describes feeling or being out of place – not fitting in, and being self-conscious about that.

.

Queen of Wands and Hierophant are right at home with one another: Hierophant is the rules, and Queen of Wands makes the rules, enforces them and exemplifies them. She is the wife, and Hierophant is the ‘ holy’ in holy matrimony. She ‘ runs a clean machine’ – keeps an orderly house, an orderly household too. She manages a business in the same no-nonsense by-the-rules way. And Hierophant represents that clean, orderly approach.

.

Nine of Wands comes along and casts a pall over the serendipity of his fellow cards. He takes the phrases they are accomplishing – things like keeping my corner of the world clean, keeping up appearances, having a middle-class home life, things being peaceful at my place, keeping my home in good order, being the respectable wife or having one, being a married woman, staying safe at home – and adds his spoiler phrases to their story, phrases like: getting on my nerves, feeling out of place about it, being under pressure to, being very self-conscious about, ‘ no matter what,’ being worried, having a bad feeling about what’s out there, misgivings, being on the defensive, suffering through, straining to, fear, dread, unease, on guard.

GET A SINGLE CARD’S MEANINGS: TYPE ITS NAME AND ‘TAROT VERBATIM’ INTO GOOGLE

.

Two of Wands This Two of Wands is a solid anchor card, and its meanings are about being solid. You see a fellow who owns the real estate below his mansion, and he is gazing down at it, planning how to make more money and steady money from it. He is not just a landlord, though; he is the banker, the mortgage holder and broker, the mogul who owns the town. Some humor here: He holds the world in his hand.

.

Two of Wands meaning categories break down to these similar headlines: plans; tenses and words that indicate future, like ‘going to’; future, the word itself; long term, long range, long time, permanent; good outlook or prospects, and phrases like ‘a lot going for,’ ‘a lot to look forward to,’ financial security,’ life ahead of him or her; financial stability, good money, bank account, investment. Two of Wand can translate ‘VIP’ or ‘mogul.’

.

Two of Wands is also about being a solid citizen, a respected and respectable person.

.

Two of Wands is also the bank itself, and banking organizations like the IMF or central bankers, or banks of nations like Bank of Japan, etc.

Empress She sits upon a cushion and sews a fine seam.” You see a lady lounging on big comfy cushions outdoors, dressed in her finery, wearing an elaborate tiara, and wielding some object that looks for all the world like an ice cream cone. She can be pregnant in your spreads. Next to her is a valentine-shaped shield with the sign for female on it. Know that Empress represents all the fertility goddesses, and represents all that they could mean.

In your real-life down-to-earth Tarot spreads, Empress means five main things. One is the beautiful woman, the glamorous woman, the sexy lady, and young woman or young women in general.

.

Two is the well-off or wealthy woman who has a life of leisure and isn’t into business unless she’s Mary Kay – a glamour business or a sex-oriented business. Yes, as the fertility goddess she can be a whore or a slut.

.

Three is that easygoing, relaxed, laid-back gal who is comfortable and makes us comfortable with her ways. The woman with the comfortable life, or who is comfortable with the life she has.

.

Four is being a resource. A resource for other people. The woman who has a very strong talent. This is Marilyn Monroe and her glamour-kitty heirs. Empress also appears for the word ‘resource’ itself.

.

Five is the pregnant woman, his bride, the right woman for him, the ideal woman.

And here, in smaller print, is a particularly good overview of the Empress card, from a past post in Tarot Verbatim™: “Empress – Empress is emphatically female. This card represents fertility esoterically speaking, because it’s the 3 of the first Major Arcanae cards. Think Mother Nature. So Empress is all the fertility goddesses rolled into one. Fertility goddesses were Femininity itself (back in the days before political correctness and gender equality, you know). They, and she, therefore are the ideal woman, the sexy doll, the beloved, the spoiled girl/woman, the slut, the pregnant woman, the easygoing laid-back kind of gal, the casual barfly kind of lady, the femme fatale, and whatever other female lifestyle you can think of. Except the businesswoman, unless the business is some form of sex or glamour.

.

The symbol on her shield – the valentine-looking thing at her side – is actually a graffiti you see carved in stone in Celtic areas from ancient times that represents the backside view of the genitalia of a bending-over female.

.

And Empress is the pregnant woman. Lying around being beautifully productive whilst taking life easy: that’s an Empress concept. That’s how – sitting upon cushions – she represents the life of leisure, the beautiful life, the comfortable life, the gal with the casual relaxed laid-back personality.

.

Other meanings for Empress are ‘resource,’ which includes ‘resourceful.’ She is the resource supporting a man (or others). ‘Resource’ expands to include resources of any kind. Ask about ecology or investing, and Empress may pop up to say ‘resources,’ such as unmined minerals or a forest.“

Page of Wands Pages are apprentice knights who are sent from their father’s castle to learn knighthood from another man, so they are about being attractive, fitting in, looking good and pleasing others. Both Page of Wands and Page of Pentacles are identity cards, which means they stand for people, and they can be pronouns. Page of Wands translates phrases and words, therefore, like: he, his, a fellow, a young man, while he is young.

.

Page of Wands even stands for the name – a person’s name or the name of something, such as the name on a title.

.

Pages are young. Usually young men.

.

Page of Wands here is speaking up: He belongs to the speak/tell/say Tarot club.

.

Page of Wands is the card for the physical body, and is one of the cards that translate ‘physical.’ This is the card for a body in good shape, or even something generally about ‘good shape.’

.

More specifically, this is your card for the handsome man. Doesn’t have to be young. Today he translates: his looks, he has good looks, and even ‘your looks.’

.

Further, Page of Wands is Prince Charming, the guy we all like, the man with good prospects, the fine young man, the fellow who has a lot going for him – the good personality.

.

Combine this ‘good prospects’ and pleasing personality with the speak/tell/say division of Page of Wands meanings and you get the salesperson. Star, too, can refer to sales because Star is making a verbal presentation.

.

Tarot Readings for You for August 10-11, 2017 Thursday-Friday©

Aug 10, 2017 by

GUIDANCE           Times in my life when what made me the happiest was being free – free of something. I’m not where I have to explain myself. Being healthy is being as young as you need to be. No one to tell me I have to, or that I can’t do. ‘Don’t worry, be happy’ by not being there.

.

.

Are YOU here for the first time? Come in!

.

Star Watch for Star to appear in upbeat stories, and not in other types of spreads unless very heavily aspected by ‘bad’ cards. A shapely nude is singing as she pours two jugs into a ceremonial bath for a celebration at night. Star is feeling good, and therefore being in good health. Star means to be happy, to be crazy about, to feel good all over. Think of Star as singing in the shower and you have the vibe. In fact, Star does translate ‘good vibrations.’

.

Star is a performance, not just in music and singing, but any performance.

.

Star is a card-carrying member of the speech/tell/say clan. It is about making presentations, which grows out of the performance meanings. Star means things like: to promise, to chatter, to tattle, to tell all about, to talk too much, a pep talk, salesmanship, a voice, talk sweet, and to say your ‘I love yous.’ Star can translate ‘I love you,’ with any pronouns.

Fool Fool is the zero, which brings odd meanings like: to not be there, nothing, to be free, to be free of, don’t know, have no idea, ignore, never mind, not pay attention. Fool is the subconscious, and it means to assume. Keep in mind that Fool means both to assume and to not pay attention or not know.

.

Fool is free, and often translates ‘free’ and ‘freedom.’

.

Fool means to be young, which grows out of traipsing to the edge of a cliff lightheartedly. Fool means to clear the air because Fool is so clear of everything.

.

Fool is all over the place. Google ‘Fool Tarot Verbatim’ and click on as many of the entries as you have time for to have a comprehensive view of Fool – or read Fool and ‘Three of Pentacles Meets Fool in the Tarot Email training lessons.

Ace of Swords Ace of Swords is totally one way, uncompromising, and imperative. Ace of Wands is a very similar card, and you see them pairing up in a Celtic Cross spread, one in each sentence, often meaning ‘has to’ or ‘must,’ and watch it to also mean dominant and ‘must not’ because Ace of Swords is all about orders, commands, ultimatums. Ace of Swords is Number One.

.

The illustration shows a war victory. An upraised sword has a crown, and the crown is crowned with laurel leaves. So Ace of Swords is a battle or war, a challenge, a threat, a weapon, victory, winning.

Ace of Swords is about being emphatic, and being the most. ‘The most’ is applied very broadly, and can appear as the suffix ‘-iest’ attached to one of your sentence’s words.

.

Ace of Swords is to attack, but it also appears as a forceful self-defense.

.

. …..     ..

Star and Fool are feeling so good. Two upbeat optimistic cards that are ‘water off a duck’s back’ when it comes to anything serious. And there’s Ace of Swords, altogether too serious, a threat to all that good feeling and free flow.

.

Lesser meanings of Star and Fool make the stories in our sentences. Star is talking, a promise, a song, salesmanship, among other things. And Fool is to forget, to be free or free of, to be not interested or not paying attention, to assume, to be young, the subconscious, and to not worry.

. ….. .     .

AND NOW WITHOUT THE PICTURES

.

.

.

Being blissfully ignorant, this person is untouched by either threats or promises. The carrot and the stick don’t work on him or her because this maverick’s mind is on something else entirely. Being ‘out there’ insulates you from the goingson of planet earth. This is your invitation to tune in and tune out now.

Magician Today’s readings are a great example of how Magician gets swallowed up by other cards’ meanings because Magician means: do, start, make, initiate or initiative. Those words are inferred in the meanings of some other cards. Today Magician and Eight of Cups are about not doing something or not doing it anymore. Today Magician and Six of Pentacles are about the doing of: paying bills, treating other people right, giving respect or attention, doing ‘it’ right.

.

Magician in Rider Waite represents the active principle, represents the doing (not the thinking or anything else, just action). Refer to the two-card combination parts at the end of this post to see how Magician gets swallowed up in the action that other cards specify the nature of.

Eight of Cups A pilgrim, the story here is, detours around a mountain, going out of his way. The pilgrim will resume his direction once past the obstacle, and bear in mind Eight of Cups sometimes means that.

.

Eight of Cups is on a journey: He has left but has not arrived. That is true of Six of Swords as well. But Six of Swords’ journey is going from one place to another directly, and Eight of Cups encounters a disruption, goes off the road (in any sense), or aborts course. Eight of Cups is leaving, quitting, dropping out, walking away, not showing up (A. W. O. L.).

.

Look for Eight of Cups to mean a change. Look for it to mean ‘on the road’ or traveling. It is one of several cards that mean to switch from one to another or to switch direction.

.

Eight of Cups means to drop out, as well as to go out of your way, two opposite things.

.

Eight of Cups also means a disruption or interruption.

.

So Eight of Cups has odd meanings. It is not an anchor card; you fit it into the others, usually. The beginning and ending moon phases can mean things like: a month, ‘burning the midnight oil,’ dusk, twilight. You get a feel for what this card is talking about, with experience. (If you are looking for exhaustive meanings for this Eight of Cups fellow, Google ‘Eight of Cups Tarot Verbatim’ and the archives will spill all. Be sure to click on the ‘more’ after the usual six or so beginning items.)

.

In its present company, Eight of Cups is acting as a negator (negative modifier), which isn’t its usual function.

Six of Pentacles He has some scales and the coins he pays them with for what they do for him. Treating people right and doing the right thing are major portions of Six of Pentacles’ meanings. The point is fairness because he is going by the weight of the gold that’s left in the coins rather than the face value. Six of Pentacles is a fair exchange; is commerce; is a paycheck or labor expense. It is also the card for making payments.

.

An exchange involves both giving and receiving, of course. And the scales bring justice into the dictionary of Six of Pentacles.

.

This exchange extends to paying attention, giving respect and getting it, and getting what is deserved (either way). The act of dropping the coins into the hands of other people, along with the fact Six of Pentacles is about ‘treating’ people fairly, stretches this card to dispensing medicines and treating people medically. Six of Pentacles translates ‘treatment.’

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

.

. …..       ..

Magician tends to fade into the meaning of other cards when they are talking about doing something, so that Magician’s ‘ do’ phrase is extraneous. This makes Eight of Cups translate ‘ doesn’t,’ a negative modifier, which isn’t its real function. An action card (Six of Pentacles in this case) modified by Eight of Cups ends up saying he isn’t paying, but the literal interpretation would be something like: ‘ What he is doing is, he is not (fill in the other card’s meaningSix of Pentacles in this case).’ So ‘ isn’t paying his bills’ for Eight of Cups and Six of Pentacles … because we would not say ‘ what he is doing is not paying his bills.’ Eight of Cups means ‘ to avoid’ or ‘ avoiding,’ and it would be equally awkward, language-wise, to say ‘ What he is doing is avoiding paying.’ Eight of Cups says ‘ ain’t doin’ it’ with Magician, but Eight of Cups, as I said, isn’t really a negator … that’s not his job as a rule. It’s a matter of phrasing in English.

.

As a member of the justice Tarot tribe, Six of Pentacles may translate ‘right’: treat me right, do what’s proper.

.

As a member of the financial Tarot tribe, Six of Pentacles may translate ‘affordable,’ ‘for that price,’ ‘pays off,’ ‘payback,’ ‘paycheck,’ and ‘pays me for that.’

.

Often the presence of Eight of Cups in a three-card spread makes conflicting stories because Eight of Cups is incompletion, and it can apply to either of the other two cards. In real-life Tarot practice, the question or other ‘knowns’ will supply how to interpret.

.

So Six of Pentacles is getting paid, Magician is doing it, and Eight of Cups can be about not getting paid or not doing it. See? Or getting paid for not doing.

.

The fairness theme of Six of Pentacles extends to legal proceedings: See the scales of justice there? The word ‘dispense’ is called up sometimes, and so is ‘give,’ of course. The ‘dispense’ and ‘give’ meanings stretch to include prescription medications.

. …..      ..

.

NOW WITHOUT THE PICTURES

Magician tends to fade into the meaning of other cards when they are talking about doing something, so that Magician’s ‘do’ phrase is extraneous. This makes Eight of Cups translate ‘doesn’t,’ a negative modifier, which isn’t its real function. An action card (Six of Pentacles in this case) modified by Eight of Cups ends up saying he isn’t paying, but the literal interpretation would be something like: ‘What he is doing is, he is not (fill in the other card’s meaningSix of Pentacles in this case).’ So ‘he isn’t paying his bills’ for Eight of Cups and Six of Pentacles … because we would not say ‘what he is doing is not paying his bills.’ Eight of Cups means ‘to avoid’ or ‘avoiding,’ and it would be equally awkward, language-wise, to say ‘What he is doing is avoiding paying.’ Eight of Cups says ‘ain’t doin’ it’ with Magician, but Eight of Cups, as I said, isn’t really a negator … that’s not his job as a rule. It’s a matter of phrasing in English.

.

So Six of Pentacles is getting paid, Magician is doing it, and Eight of Cups can be about not getting paid or not doing it. See? Or getting paid for not doing.

Noticing things not usually noticed today. We are talking about change today: the change that is the effect from things not being done anymore, whether it’s not making payments anymore, not taking those pills anymore, to quit being the one to make the first move. We are talking also about the change that is about things beginning to happen: doing something about not paying bills on time; just doing it with no thought of reward; starting medical treatment and what a nice change; going out of your way to do the right thing, or take the initiative.
