A Verbatim Tarot System: Back to the Ancient Intuitive Science
Were you to have lived 5,000 years ago and not been nobility, you would have had only one field in which to achieve success: divination. The best minds then applied themselves to the esoteric sciences of prediction, using whichever form of divination the culture embraced, usually astrology.
How seriously was this profession taken? One culture (I do not remember which) had people on the street with clay tablets on which they wrote the question in its positive and its negative. "Will I get paid?" and "Will I not get paid?" If the answers were not properly contradictory, the wizard was put to death. How historians learned about this penalty, I don't remember. (Don't you have a feeling there was a special technique these workers employed?) The broken clay fragments with the questions in both direct and obverse forms were found in garbage dumps.
Progress is made in any subject all the great minds of a culture devote themselves to: The study has its golden age then. We have no inkling of the methods or the approach these geniuses used in their august and revered profession, other than the precise astrological writings. Science and journalism were yet to be, but the performing arts were well established that long ago. How commercial was this endeavor, and were women as well as men involved in it, other than at Delphi? Were there customers other than nobility? Yes, for the clay tablet folks. Yes, for the oracles at Delphi.

My Verbatim Tarot adventure started out as a science experiment in the Laws of Random Distribution. That seeme...
