Ace of Pentacles stands for the proposition that the road to success is paved with good moral behavior. Its meanings echo that position: money, ownership, success, being right, being on the Path, everything being okay or even perfect. Six of Swords – The future is better. Six of Swords reassures of that. You are moving on, making progress (or whoever is the subject of your reading is). Watch for Star to appear in upbeat stories, and not in other types of spreads unless very heavily aspected by ‘bad’ cards. Star means to be happy, to be crazy about, to feel good all over. Think of Star as singing in the shower and you have the vibe. In fact, Star does translate ‘good vibrations.’Star is a performance, not just in music and singing, but any performance.
Star is a card-carrying member of the speech/tell/say clan. It is about making presentations, which grows out of the performance meanings. Ace of Swords
No room for doubt here. Winner take all. It’s all one way. It’s 100% unequivocally, no room for doubt. It’s (this) or else. Defeat totally or victory totally, no gray zone. Here’s the main point, the most important (whatever). Here’s what has to be. Here is the most extreme, the best or maybe even the worst (depending on the story).
Ace of Swords is a threat or is a challenge too – a do-it-or-perish kind of challenge.
The illustration says this just as unequivocally. A hand grasps an upright double-edged sword which is crowned, and then the crown is crowned with the laurel leaves of victory.
Lovers
What a hodgepodge of of meanings and symbols we have here! Put the illustration’s concepts together, and you have the idea that the sexual bond a couple has for one another is of the same invasive nature as the bond divinity has for humans. The volcano is there, and the twin trees from the Garden of Eden saga are there, to confess all is not warm-fuzzy love.
Lovers has more miscellaneous meanings than most cards. Although Lovers obviously means lovers, and a couple, and sexual passion (what with the snake and the volcano and the nudity), you find it showing up more frequently to mean connection (to connect; we connect; direct connection), contact, being with, plural pronouns we/us/they/them, partner(s), getting together, being on the same side … even, sometimes, standing next to a person (propinquity).A good example of Lovers’ propensity to have wildly miscellaneous meanings is that accompanied by Seven of Cups (the cloud), the volcano in Lovers says ‘pyroclastic’ for the pyroclastic flow volcanoes have. A far reach, yes.
The angel represents both surveillance (He is watching them: Is he the angel that evicted them from paradise?) and protection. The protection extends to insurance, and to being covered by insurance. And the angel of course represents God’s interest in those humans. A connection to God therefore is one of Lover’s meanings.
The angel also brings Lovers ‘higher-ups’ in job questions.

Page of Wands
Along with Page of Pentacles, Page of Wands’ source of meanings is that pages were apprentice knights who were being trained and tested to see whether they could perform knighthood’s role. This training was official and had several tests to it, so pages aim to please, to measure up. Identity is a main theme of both Page of Pentacles’ and Page of Wands’ applications.
Page of Wands specifically is the well-spoken well-dressed clean-cut fresh-faced good guy. Usually young or youngish. This is Prince Charming. He is associated not just with being but with speaking, so he stands up for what he believes … is a stand-up guy, as we say. He is proud … proud to be whatever he is being.Less obvious from the picture is the fact Page of Wands (like Hierophant, also not-so-obviously) means ‘physical.’ Page of Wands translates ‘bodily’ in various contexts – like today’s ‘insured for bodily injury.’
Page of Wands translates ‘person’ as well as ‘personal.’ It also translates ‘self.’Think of it this way. Both Page of Pentacles and Page of Wands mean words like he, him, self, person, guy, man, good-guy, etc. But Page of Pentacles adds words about thinking and feeling, and Page of Wands adds words about speaking and standing for something.

Ace of Swords is winning, being superior, being the champion; Page of Wands is the one who does that: He is a winner, he stands for, he stands up for, he speaks up proudly. Knight of Wands
You see him not in control of his horse as he races from one place to another, a discombobulated – even panicky – look on his face. His weapon isn’t raised, as Knight of Swords’ is, so, really, he should be more likely running away than pursuing. (These two Rider Waite Tarot cards (Knight of Wands and Knight of Swords) share that leaving-or-pursuing-in-a-hurry story.) Knight of Wands comes up for over-the-road trucking, for a job transfer, and for driving by a place to surveil it. Knight of Wands can be Don Quixote, of whom it was quoted somewhere that he ‘ran off in all directions.’
Knight of Wands every once in a while is about energetic effort. Today he is ‘the rat race,’ ‘giving it all you got,’ and ‘gets your blood moving,’ for instance.
Eight of Cups
The story here is that a pilgrim (one who is determined to arrive at a destination) takes a detour and aborts his course because a mountain is in the way – but of course this is, in the story, a temporary derailment. Eight of Cups joins Hermit in being a card that shows a pedestrian and has meanings about being on the road.
Eight of Cups has a lot of meanings about dropping out, quitting, being A.W.O.L., abandoning, being short-lived, changing, ‘not anymore.’ It some, too about ‘haven’t yet.’ Words like ‘bypass’ and ‘shortcut,’ and even phrases like ‘fall off the wagon’ and ‘it’s over before it begins’ belong to Eight of Cups.
Ace of Swords
A double-edged sword held upright, crowned, and the crown crowned with laurel leaves has to mean victory, total victory. That means total defeat for whoever the opponent was. So Ace of Swords is black-or-white; it means ‘for sure’ and is ‘all one way.’ Ace of Swords is an order (imperative), is ‘you have to,’ is by force. Ace of Swords is overcoming and overruling. Ace of Swords is also important – primacy or primary. Ace of Swords is a challenge, too. And a weapon, of course – any weapon.

Have to, Ace of Swords; and Knight of Wands is getting out in a hurry; and Eight of Cups is also aborting course, dropping out, leaving unexpectedly without notice. Two of Cups
Two of Cups means ‘not what it seems,’ and Two of Cups isn’t what it seems. It is about hidden agendas, and it has one. Two of Cups has most Tarot systems applying it as a loving couple. (All Tarot systems work for the people who use them, and there are more ways to read Tarot than there are Tarot readers.)
There’s a caduceus (the winged lion’s head with the intertwined snakes underneath) between and over the couple who is announcing their engagement, back when engagement was tantamount to marriage. A broken engagement disgraced the woman for life.
The caduceus represents spirits who are interfering in human affairs. It is used in spells to create or prevent events – good ones and bad ones. So the basic meaning of Two of Cups is influencing or interfering in people’s affairs, having an agenda or undisclosed interest. Two of Cups is a hidden factor, is behind-the-scene activity, is pretending to be someone you are not. It appears to tell you your trust is misplaced sometimes, or that you are mistrusted.
Two of Cups, as you can see in the picture, is also sexual. It’s falling in love. It’s lovemaking. It’s sexual attraction and seduction; sexual bond and lust; it’s the hot love affair; it’s marrying for money. And it’s the cheating lover.
Hierophant
A newspaper, back in the days when everyone who was anyone was respectable, touted itself as publishing ‘All the news that’s fit to print.’ That’s Hierophant. Hierophant is the pope, and the underlying meaning of Hierophant is the ‘face,’ the respectable veneer of things and the official mainstream version that is for the public – not just hypocrisy of religions and religious people, but of you and me and all our organizations, structures, tribes and families. It refers to the artifice and the pretense that is civilization. The card stands for reputation, behaving, decency, being honest, and, yes, religions and church. It stands for not being harmful too.
Think of it this way: Hierophant is whatever is ordinary, usual, accepted, assumed, approved, expected and routine. The pope is doing his ordinary routine ceremony with the usual participants.
Ace of Swords
Ace of Swords very frequently says ‘absolutely’ and any words or phrases that mean must (you gotta). Ace of Swords is obviously victory (a real one, not a fake one like Six of Wands) – total victory, which means total defeat for the other side – and the other side might be the one in your inquiry, so watch that. The brandished sword is crowned, and the crown is crowned with the laurel leaves of victory.
Ace of Swords’ other meanings grow out of what we are looking at here. It means to overcome … or to be overcome. You get the best of something, or it gets the best of you. It means force, and to be forced.
Ace of Swords means strong or strongest; it means control; it means ‘the most’ about anything. It also means punishment and enforcement.

Er, you could say Ace of Swords is a double-edged sword like its picture. It’s obviously a total victory, what with the crown crowned with the laurel leaves; but a total victory for one side is a total defeat for the other, and the action in Tarot goes both ways. So we have ‘you win’ and ‘you conquer,’ and we also have ‘sure got the best of me’ and ‘got the best of you.’ Win and lose. And you also have the threat, and you have orders, commands. Today, ‘be firm with’ is an Ace of Swords translate under its ‘command’ set of meanings
Ace of Swords is not just to dominate though; it is to have things under control and to be in control. It is also having to: having to do, something that is the controlling element in the equation in any way, and something that is for sure or certain. ‘Get ‘er done’ comes from this Ace of Swords ‘achievement’ category of meanings.
Ace of Swords means ‘total’ because of the total win, and, by extension, is one of the several cards that translates ‘the most.’ So we have ‘number one,’ ‘the grandest,’ ‘very, ‘100%,’ and, of course, ‘totally.’ Today this concept includes ‘head over heels’ because that’s ‘totally’ in love.
Two of Cups
Two of Cups – Tarot Verbatim™’s take on Two of Cups is literal, and therefore varies from the rest of the Tarot world’s. The caduceus is about unseen, undeclared influences on a transaction (or situation) between parties who DO have an understanding. This concept covers a lot of acreage. (Caduceus represents a magic spell’s influence.) When you don’t know who you are dealing with, something is being done back-door or under-the-table, it’s Two of Cups territory.
First, yes, Two of Cups is about love … just, about complex complicated love. We put our best appearance on when we have a lover (most of us most of the time anyway) so there’s a normal level of pretense to the situation. Caduceus goes beyond that to whatever deceit it’s representing at the moment. So Two of Cups is a cheating lover, a lover who is using or manipulating the relationship to his or her selfish benefit (‘Love you for your money,’ etc.) when it’s being a love story. And it’s also simply the sexual attraction itself, the Mother Nature element in love, being uncontrollably head-over-heels in love, and the grand love affair which necessarily has some play-acting to it.
But Two of Cups brings that kind of misrepresentation into whatever other scene it may occur in. Two of Cups today is a bad habit, a gullible moment, an agenda, a fixed game, contagion and misrepresentation, as well as being affected and being under the influence. It can represent contagious germs and contagion – ‘catching’ the microbe, or a computer virus, malware.
Two of Cups shows the caduceus butting in. It interferes and affects the love relationship it is attaching itself to
Two of Cups also speaks of the influence of the subconscious because that is definitely a behind-the-scene influence.
Page of Pentacles
Page of Pentacles is a simple card, maybe the very simplest. It means thinking and feeling, looking or watching, a person or a pronoun, and ‘know.’ You see a young self-conscious man contemplating that pentacle. He is an identity card.
Today as conscious thought, Page of Pentacles contrasts with the subconscious, hidden, element in Two of Cups. He means idea, feeling, looking at, interest, mindful, watching, seeing, ‘you,’ figuring out, knowing, ‘himself,’ ‘yourself,’ and thinking.

This is the third day that Tarot is talking about interruptions and disruptions, but today it isn’t emphasized as much. “You know how to be firm with people who butt in” bluntly states it. Two of Cups is the disruption card today. It is interference that is undeclared (or unofficial).
Today, the disruption theme expands to influences that have to be accommodated. Being ‘under the influence’ is an influence, Tarot points out (duh. I didn’t think of that either) and so is Mother Nature’s part in your love life (double-Duh).
Today, the emphasis is on the necessity to figure out, or to be mindful of, overall factors we disregard. Here are some sentences that point out a few of those:

Of course ‘figure out’ belongs to Page of Pentacles, and Ace of Swords is the imperative (‘you have to’). Two of Cups, the remaining card, casts a very wide net with what it can mean. An unseen undeclared factor that influences lives: That’s about as general and miscellaneous as you can get, and that’s right where Two of Cups lives.
So today Tarot is saying: Be aware of general overlooked factors that will affect your plan, and build them into your plan because there is more than one route from the starting line to the goal post.
