Tarot Readings for You for April 21-22, 2018 Weekend©

GUIDANCE            I don’ t know what to say about it: It’s such a mess. Would not think such a nice-looking guy was so nasty. He is a pervert and doesn’t think so. I paid no attention when he told me his vice, and I forgot what I said to the s.o.b. Oh, I had no idea what a wrong thing to say that was!

Could This Be YOU?

Picture this: You look at the cards in your spread

You immediately get an idea

because you know a few of them intimately AND

you know a system that works

because you have had a few

Fool This is a Tarot card I could write a book about. Being the ‘0’ (the zero) of the deck is a very big thing! Today Fool (which can be a very theoretical influence in your spreads) is pinned down to physical subject by his two spread-mates here. (Both of them can even translate ‘physical.’) So today fool uses only four branches from his meaning tree: to be unaware or forget or not know; to assume; to pay no attention or disregard or ignore; to assume.

.

That’s it for Fool for today. You see him in his portrait here doing exactly the things the card refers to: blithely ignoring a hazard and proceeding lightheartedly.

Page of Wands You see a proud young well-dressed fellow standing up straight presenting himself to the world, eager to please, to fit in. Pages, as apprentice knights, were like that. Page of Wands is talking in his picture, and he is one of the man speak/tell/say tribe members. Most of his words and phrases here are from that category of his.

.

There’s an emphasis on his body as well as his personality and character being in good shape: He is handsome, and he is fit, and he is also a good guy.

.

Page of Wands fairly often means to be physically present. Think of that as combining his ‘physical’ meanings with the fact he is an identity card.

.

Identity cards (Page of Pentacles is another, and Magician to a lesser extent) can frequently simply translate pronouns, can translate whatever trait is associated with that card, or can combine both the trait and the pronoun. For example, Page of Wands her can be ‘person,’ can be ‘he,’ can be a word that describes how he is good, looks good, or is in good shape physically, and also can combine those so that you have ‘A handsome Prince Charming type guy tells you.’ Which reminds me: This particular Page of Wands card can say ‘type of person,’ and so can Page of Pentacles.

Devil One of Devil’s tamer meanings is ‘physical,’ and it means other innocuous words too. Today Page of Wands usurps the ‘physical,’ leaving Devil to his unappetizing categories of meanings. ‘Sick’ and ‘ugly’ is the best he can do today. Oh, well.

.

Devil can translate cuss words because, well, that is the way we express what is exceptionally disgusting. ‘S.o.b.’ and the word ‘cussing’ appear for Devil today.

.

The way the naked couple is chained (voluntarily attached) to Mr. Devil gives him sexual a bad-sexual meanings like these, today: having sex with, sex, and pervert.

.

Devil is an obstacle, a problem, trouble, and this card shares those words with some others that are more specific. Devil is a very general grab-bag sort of Tarot card: you let it fit in with the other cards in your spread because it could mean so many things.

.

Here are some general not-nice meanings you can use Devil for: wrong, vice, evil, worst, mess, nasty, ugly, bad shape, demon. We used these today.

.

.

.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

                   LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES..

.. ….. ……..….

.

We are full of same-meanings and opposite-meanings in this particular spread, which makes it easy to see contradictory meanings. In real Tarot life, you look to the question, the surrounding cards, and the story line that is established to determine which interpretation to use.

.

Here are some of these – I hope all of them! First, re Fool and Page of Wands: Both Fool and Page of Wands are young. Page of Wands is present in person; Fool is not present. Page of Wands has something to say and is saying it; Fool isn’t paying attention.

.

Next, re Fool and Devil: Fool is free and unburdened; Devil is bound and binding. Fool is lighthearted and optimistic; Devil is bad feelings and feeling bad.

.

Next, re Page of Wands and Devil: Devil is a bad guy; Page of Wands is a good guy. Page of Wands is good-looking; Devil is ugly. Page of Wands is in good shape; Devil is in bad shape.

.

You can observe the assumption we are all prone to that a person who looks good, a person who acts good, a person who talks a good game … is a good person. Tarot is presenting that assumption here. “ Assume a bad guy who speaks well and dresses well is a good guy,” this spread is saying.

.

Today’s spread is also a trove of literal-but-unexpected phrases of a pair of Tarot cards. Here they are, with the cards identified for you:

Not being present (Fool) in person (Page of Wands).

Nothing (Fool) seriously wrong (Devil).

Don’t even think of (Fool) having sex with (Devil).

Demons (Devil) don’t acknowledge the existence of (Fool) .

A speech (Page of Wands) impediment (Devil).

Assume (Fool) the worst (Devil).

If you don’t pay attention, you find yourself assuming that a person who talks well, dresses well, and acts good is a good person. He has a speech impediment? – we tend to ignore him. He is a handsome devil who dresses well? – he talks us into sex before we even know it. Today we present Devil as a handsome young man.

Tarot Readings for You for November 8, 2017 Wednesday©

Today is Email Reading day, Wednesday. We have a little different story here from a visitor who is willing to share her Email Reading.

.

You can Google any pair of her cards to get more information on their combined meanings, or you can Google a single one. You can also purchase an email reading of your own – no history is necessary, only a specific focused question, and it’s low-priced. See all about it at the Email Reading tab up there. Lately, it may take several days to get your answer because more people are asking than usual.

.

Are you serious about Tarot? See the ‘Get them now’ bar over there? It is about some profound training that will get your subconscious involved in your Tarot life more directly than ever. The book I wrote as a gift to subscribers has things in it you will not find anywhere else. Not a word is wasted in its 56 pages.

Today’s Client says:

  • I got involved with a public person (singer in a small community) and after a few disappointments, we stopped to talk, I got so overwhelmed that I started a creative blog to try to show my love, but things got out of control inside the community, and this leads to a conflict that restricts me to go back to the parties. Will he talk again with me, he has any interest in being a solution for the problem?

.

.

.

Question: Will he talk again with me; does he have any interest in being a solution to the problem?

Hi Emily

Oh, thanks, Emily, this just confirms what I was thinking, and yes sure you can publish, I will soon send you more questions! Thanks  xx

Tarot Readings for You for August 30, 2017 Wednesday©

Today is Wednesday – Email reading day.  Here’s a gal who wants to know what on earth to do next with her life. I broke her inquiry down to get a meaningful email answer.

The Tarot Email Training will start any time now; techs are testing it. September 1 is the first installment. To those of you who are waiting patiently or anxiously: It’s coming, stay tuned.

Emily

.

.

How I should spend my time in the next year is a better way to put it. I could travel the world, I could go back to school, I could go back home and get another job. Or something I’m not yet seeing or thinking of.

.

.

(Emily’s Comment: Going to school and traveling the world can be combined. Prestigious universities overseas (Oxford University; L’ecole Polytechnique, and others) have classes in English that result in degrees, and they are far far far cheaper and far more respected internationally than U S universities are now. Bonus is that getting a job overseas is a LOT easier if you are not a United States school graduate. Tuition is a mere $5,000 at some of these schools. Stansberry Research (financial newsletters) is where I learned about this.)

.

You have four parts to your question here. Let’s measure by how pleased you are two years after you do each of these three things you name, and then ask the ‘what else?’ question.

Five of Cups describes the melancholy sense of loss. And note how many negative cards are used that express ‘No, no, it’s not’ … along with cards that describe him being good to you.

Also, the pair of cards that mean three people engaged in something together (a triangle) appear in this reading: Three of Pentacles and Three of Cups.

Tarot Readings for You for June 16, 2016 Thursday©

GUIDANCE    We report a sort of tug-of-war. We want to look good or to be good, so we stifle some aspects of ourselves. And we also stifle the factors that keep us from being the person we want to be, or to appear to be. So sometimes it’s ourselves we limit, and sometimes it’s something else. The idea is to look good and be a good guy. We speak of handicaps, and we speak of handicapping some things. That’s it.

.

.

Are YOU here for the first time? Come in!

GET A SINGLE CARD’S MEANINGS: TYPE ITS NAME AND ‘TAROT VERBATIM’ INTO GOOGLE

.

Page of Wands A person’s image or type, especially a good person who looks good, is one main branch of Page of Wands’ meaning tree, and the other is speaking, especially speaking up and standing up for who you are and what you believe.

.

The cards that represent a person’s image are stand-ins for pronouns, of course. So put a pronoun with a word that pertains to speaking, talk, say tell, etc. and Page of Wands is it. First person pronouns and singular male pronouns predominate, of course.

.

Pages were young men who were sent to a neighboring knight to be trained in knighthood, so all the pages can be youthful or young. Pages were apprentices, so they can also represent the beginning of a phase of life or a new profession.

.

Page of Wands also is the physical body, and being in good shape. It can even translate ‘physical’ sometimes. (So can Devil.)

Devil Well, Devil is bad in Rider Waite. It frequently translates bad and wrong and worst, as well as horrible and terrible, crime and vice, problem and trouble, filth and toxins. Suffering and disease belong to Devil too, any sort of disease or sickness – but Page of Wands with Devil specifies physical disease, because Page of Wands is the body.

.

Devil shares meanings about being stuck, handicapped, and limited with Eight of Swords. Both their illustrations contain bindings on a person. Both bindings are loose. Both Devil and Eight of Swords therefore can indicate that what holds (you) back is something (you) can get out of – and this idea applies not just to people but to anything.

.

Devil is a bad guy or an evil person, entity, organization or thing. Devil means ugly, and it means harmful.

.

Devil isn’t always a heavy card. It can designate a nearby card as the problem; it refers to trouble generally; it sometimes means obligation or physically attached in some way – like a trailer hitch or even a staple or paper clip.

Eight of Swords You see a defeated-looking dame loosely tied standing in a swamp surrounded by swords which have their tips in the mud. No one is around. Eight of Swords in Tarot Verbatim™ is the actual death card. Meanings in Tarot Verbatim™ are whatever is observed in ‘the field,’ in actual practice, so I have no reason why this card – which means helpless, tied up, prevented, can’t, stuck, limited, locked, prison, disabled, not allowed, contained and restrained, stifle, and what holds a person or anything else back – is the death card. It just is.

.

Much of the time, Eight of Swords contributes ‘can’t’ to your reading. It shows up regularly for the kind of ‘can’t’ that really means ‘won’t’ or ‘choose not to.’ I dub that application of Eight of Swords ‘can’titis.’ People say ‘my hands are tied’ and ‘I’m tied up’ as excuses not to do something or not to be somewhere.

.

Another unexpected meaning for Eight of Swords is prevention. To be prevented from some action is to be tied up.

.

Eight of Swords also sometimes apples to being locked in a category or pigeonholed. The glass ceiling operation.

.

.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

                       LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES..

.. ….. …     ..

.

You can see loose bindings in both Devil and Eight of Swords, which suggest putting up with something that limits, or allowing something to be hampered. Often, oneself. Eight of Swords is feeling or being helpless, feeling or being shut in, feeling or being suffocated. And Eight of Swords can translate ‘helpless’ as well as ‘hopeless.’ The bindings can refer to actual attachments or ties on a physical object. Devil is malattachment, attachment to something that is wrong, like a vice or a bad habit. However, the ‘binding’ or ‘bound’ can translate purely verbatim as the word in ‘binding contract’ or ‘bound by an oath.’ That’s because Tarot Verbatim™ is literal and language-based.

.

Eight of Swords often means container or contained – like, if you ask where a lost object is: It’s in a drawer or a safe. Devil and Eight of Swords often are limitations, which is easy to see. Eight of Swords indicates something is locked or locked up, too. Eight of Swords means restrained, stymied, stifled, and not allowed. Eight of Swords – tied up that way – means paralysis, both literal and figurative.

.

Devil means suffering, pain, angst and anxiety, hurtful feelings, cruelty, and other general negative concepts like punishment, sin and sinner(s), hate and rudeness, etc.

.

You can see how Devil and Eight of Swords can cancel one another out, can be antagonistic to one another, along the lines of ‘can do no wrong.’ Devil is bad things, and Eight of Swords is not letting and is ‘can’t.’ So you have ancient Mother Google’s slogan ‘Don’t be evil.’ They don’t say that anymore, do they?

.

Page of Wands refers to the physical body, its condition and its looks, and gets to mean ‘physical’ that way. Devil gets to mean physical by being the lowest plane, the netherworld, the most dense plane.

.

Both Devil and Eight of Swords refer to disability, handicap, crippling, physical impairment.

.

Page of Wands is the good guy and Devil is the bad guy. Page of Wands is good-looking and Devil is ugly.

Francois de La Rochefoucauld observed – in French of course – that hypocrisy is the homage that vice renders to virtue. Today our main story is about stifling that bad side – that vice, that ugliness – in order to look like and to be the good guy instead of the bad guy. Along the same lines, we examine the effort it takes for someone who is sick or handicapped to stifle the suffering and appear to have the best life he or she is capable of.

GUIDANCE    Right and wrong, reward and punishment: they aren’t hooked up so that good deeds are rewarded, and vice versa. We are here to report that good deeds do get punished, and cheaters graduate with honors. We confess we are paying for our mistake, have an expensive habit we are self-treating for, and are struggling to make some payments too. We observe that you get paid to do something wrong, and that you pay for the wrong things you do too. So today we are mentally unhitching those reward-and-punishment trailers.

GET A SINGLE CARD’S MEANINGS: TYPE ITS NAME AND ‘TAROT VERBATIM’ INTO GOOGLE

.

MagicianFew and clear are Magician’s meanings. The only subtlety to Magician is that when you put him next to a card that translates into a verb, Magician – meaning to do, to act – is absorbed into the verb and will translate simply a pronoun (usually he, but myself, him, his, yourself, and even I, as well) to go along with that card. Note that, therefore, Magician can turn another card into verb form. Yeah, a subtlety.

.

Anyway, Magician is simple: male pronouns, any form of the verbs do and make and their synonyms (initiate, inaugurate, start up, begin, etc.). Magician also owns the noun action, so look for ‘take action.’ Magician also owns ‘he is the one who’ and ‘I am the one who’ – and that refers usually to doing something. So Magician and Ace of Cups can be ‘He loves you’ or ‘He is the one who loves you.’

.

Magician (along with Page of Pentacles and Page of Wands) can also translate ‘self.’ Today, with Six of Pentacles as ‘treatment,’ for instance, Magician makes that ‘self-treatment.’

Six of Pentacles Giving and receiving, and what’s right and fair: These are the basic applications of Six of Pentacles. It’s an exchange in the illustration of money for labor, but anything that goes from one person to another is fair game for Six of Pentacles: attention, germs, information and medicines especially. ‘Treatment’ applies both as treatment for an illness or problem, and as the way you are being treated or treat another or others. Reward is also a Six of Pentacles concept. So is ‘deserve,’ along the lines of its fairness meanings.

.

While paychecks, paying bills, and paying for having other people do something are paramount in Six of Pentacles, it equally applies to budget, price (whether bargain or expensive, depending upon context), and phrases like ‘worth it,’ as in ‘worth the effort’ with, say, Five of Wands or Ten of Wands even. It is also the card in Rider Waite for paying what you owe and collecting what is owed you.

Devil – Here’s a pesky card to apply. Look at it last, it has so many divergent and unrelated meanings – and not all are bad news, either. But ‘wrong’ and ‘bad’ are frequent fliers on the Devil plane – and so is ‘mistake.’ Devil owns ‘hate’ and ‘dislike’ as well. Devil shows an attachment of a couple of naked people to Mr. Devil Himself, as Lovers shows the naked people under the watchful eye of a fairly funky angel. So Devil is malattachment or being attached to something that’s bad for you – hence, a habit as one of Devil’s meanings. Speaking of which, check out those grapes on the gal’s tail.

.

Today, besides the meanings discussed above, Devil appears as: mean things, punished, difficult, obligating yourself, immoral, crime, sick, breaks it, sex act, suffer.

Magician is to do, and Devil is wrong – so, wrongdoing. Magician is to do, and Six of Pentacles is to do right by people, so you have the good deed. Then, Devil means punishment and Six of Pentacles means reward. So our spread says – in all sorts of ways – do right, do wrong, be rewarded, be punished. So, no good deed goes unpunished here today, you could say. You pay for your bad habits, and you get paid to do wrong things.

Ste. Teresa d’Avila famously said in the book written only for her nuns, Way of Perfection, that we don’t complain about unfairness when it benefits us, only when it costs us. Today we meditate on this reward-punishment good-deed bad-deed brain teaser. Mindful of scenarios in which reward is dispensed for something wrong, or something done wrong, and in which punishment is dispensed to someone who is doing the right thing, or for a good deed.

Your subconscious awareness sees the image and its feeling and your conscious awareness sees the language meaning, the text… so your two minds focus together to see 3D, three dimensionally, the same way your two eyes see depth that one eye does not.

Tarot Readings: Don’t Care, or No Idea, About the Downside (Devil and Fool)
Devil Fool

I just don’t deal with problems.

No deals with lowlifes!

Dealing with the dark side? – no worries!

The meeting about the problem didn’t happen.

Without being obligated, we each do for one another.

We aren’t attached to one another: It works for us!

No problem in our relationship.

No bad guys around here!

You can have sex without being in a relationship.

He doesn’t even think about your faults – you have a working relationship.

No idea why I am so rude when we get together.

I don’t know how to get nasty with people I know.

I don’t care about the problems, let’s just do the deal.

I am not concerned that they shortchanged me in our deal.

Tarot Readings: Avoiding a Pitfall (Devil and Fool)
Devil Fool

Business is profitable now that that obstacle isn’t there.

This negotiation is about avoiding a pitfall.

We are excused from dealing with the worst of it.

Isn’t going to be a meeting because of the difficulty.

The meeting is canceled due to illness.

Just don’t pay attention to difficult people, and dealing with them is a breeze.

Tarot Readings: Bad Relationships (Devil and Three of Pentacles)
Seven of Pentacles Fool

Free for a change.

Forget about reminding (them) to pay.

He forgot again to give you that.

On the road again, feeling free.

I say I don’t care what’s right.

Instantly clearing my mind: That’s a good thing!

The right words come when you aren’t thinking about it.

I open my mind to a whole new level and it’s rewarding.

Just don’t listen to the news and you’ll be okay.

Change will happen the way it’s supposed to without you.

He is going straight – he recovers from his maverick ways.

You aren’t aware that things have changed for the better.

Forget about reminding him to do right.

Tarot Readings: Let’s Just Forget (Fool and Three of Pentacles)
Seven of Pentacles Fool

The people you hang out with have no clue how bad you are feeling.

Let’s get together and forget our troubles.

So rude I pretend we never met.

Makes a deal and then forgets (his) obligation.

Our team member doesn’t know what a creep he/she is.

I was wrong; I just wasn’t thinking about doing my part.

Has no idea she is mad with him – assumes he is doing his part.

I had no idea I was dealing with the devil.

Had no idea I was obligated under a contract.

We agree to forget about the bad blood (ill feelings).

Don’t screw up the deal – act like you don’t know.

What sexual liaison between us all?

Synopsis

A lawyer who won anything winnable and mitigated the penalty – or even won – hopeless criminal (and other) cases once told me that, in order to do what he does – which is get the judge to create ‘reversible error’ or appealable issues in the trial – you had to be nasty, rude and unreasonable ALL THE TIME. It had to come natural. What he did was enrage the judges by what he said or did. Judges jailed him for contempt of court. Word on the street was: He did more time than his clients. Think Donald Trump.

Our point today is that the way you act – your attitude and your image – creates and affects your reality. We especially analyze how … if you don’t treat it like a problem, if you don’t think it’s a war … it mostly isn’t: The war counts you out. You’re no fun to fight with, so the fight goes elsewhere, and you’re out of the action. Yay for you.

Devil

Devil

A male and female human are tied to Devil’s chair by loose chains around their necks. They wear horns. She has a tail ending in a bunch of grapes (‘wine’); he has a tail ending in fire from Devil’s upside-down torch (‘passion’). This depicts the idea that what ties them to *what holds them back* or what ties them to their vices is voluntary. That is the core meaning of Devil in Rider Waite, but its meanings are all over the place. Very general card. (You will find ‘wrong use of force’ as its definitions in Tarot books, meaning wrong use of energy. That does apply; it is true – but it isn’t much use on the actual table.)

Devil is a problem, obstacle, difficulty … whatever ties you up, limits you, holds you back. (Eight of Swords is the tied-up, limited, held-back person, by the way, whose bonds are also loose.)

Devil means anything horrible to not-so-good, but it also means attachment (represented by the chains of course) in any way (yeah, a paper clip! – or an attachment to a document), and it means ‘physical,’ and ‘obligation’ and ‘sexual’ generally too. So it can say ‘have to,’ ‘forced to,’ no choice but to,’ etc. like Ace of Swords and Ace of Wands. (It can say those things, but not that often.) So, with all these possibilities in your spread, you look at the other cards, then go back to Devil, usually, to be more efficient.

We are not using some of Devil’s specific ‘bad things,’ so I won’t go into that here: We are focused on the operation of Devil today. Google ‘Devil Tarot Verbatim’ to find the comprehensive list.

Look for Devil to mean obligation. Since Devil means ‘binding,’ and means ‘obligation,’ Devil with Three of Pentacles – a card whose illustration is about a contract – say ‘bound by the contract’ or ‘contractually binding.’ Three of Pentacles is an agreement among or between people (definition of a contract, by the way!), so Devil and Three of Pentacles also can read ‘forced to agree,’ or ‘you have to because you agreed with them/us to.’

More examples of Devil’s operation: Devil and Three of Pentacles is a sexual meeting (liaison) because Devil is sexual, and Three of Pentacles is a meeting and/or relationship. One step farther, Devil and Three of Pentacles could be prostitution: a commercial exchange for sex.

Fool

Fool

Fool is having none of it. Fool is ‘water off a duck’s back,’ as they say. Fool is ‘I don’t know’ and ‘I don’t care.’ Fool’s meanings and applications arise from the ‘0,’ the zero, his value or number in the deck. Zero has no value of its own (is invisible) but creates and affects value in the number system. Watch for Fool to mean the absence of something (not just a person: a happening or a trait, or ‘not there’).

An interesting aside regarding Fool is that this card sometimes is put before Magician, the ‘1,’ but more often is placed after World, the last Major Arcanae citizen. So you could say life’s journey begins with knowing nothing, and life’s journey is finished when you also ‘know nothing,’ are free of it all – open minded and open spirited.

Fool appears where you would shrug. It says ‘Oh, well.’ Fool is open-minded and it means subconscious – subconscious elements like not being attached, being free, free of, and freespirited. Being unconcerned – not worried about walking off that cliff. Living in the ‘out there’ consciousness does insulate a spiritual person from mishaps, and Fool’s illustration expresses that. It’s also true if someone ‘doesn’t get’ some problem, other people tend to leave that person out of it. (And Fool is ‘out of the picture,’ not present.) For example, pretending to be stupid sometimes is good strategy. (Think Alfred E. Neuman’a ‘What, ME worry?’ So Fool is skirting, bypassing and avoiding situations that way.

Fool is also in the groove of ‘as if’: act as if, pretend. Fool isn’t present … wasn’t there. (That’s the zero in action.) The word ‘just’ when it is expressed as ‘Just do it’ or ‘Just don’t’ or ‘I just am’ or ‘just isn’t’ is fairly frequent for Fool.

Fool also assumes – various ways to apply that one.

Here are phrases Fool contributes to today’s one-sentence readings:

just (as in just do it, or just don’t do it)

no _ (as in no deal)

no worries

didn’t happen

without being _

we aren’t _

no problem

no _ around here!

without being ….

I just wasn’t thinking

What …?

Fool and Devil say some things you are likely to overlook until you’re really used to Tarot Verbatim’s™ ways. Here are Fool and Devil phrases to demonstrate how those two sometimes interact:

dealing with the dark side

the problem didn’t happen

no worries

no problem

aren’t attached

no bad guys

without being obligated

no idea why I am rude

don’t know how to get nasty

not concerned about being cheated

And here are some phrases that Fool and Three of Pentacles make:

without being in a relationship

people you hang out with have no clue

wasn’t thinking of doing my part

assumes (he) is doing (his) part

we agree to forget

Three of Pentacles

Three of Pentacles

Three of Pentacles is getting together to get something done – getting together in any kind of relationships: friends, business transactions, business teams, a chance meeting, a love relationship, a meeting of lovers (often a date, or a sexual liaison), a negotiation of a contract, agreeing or making an agreement. Three of Pentacles is any kind of meeting. Sometimes it says ‘the people you hang out with’ or associates. Sometimes it is a team. Note the ‘mutual’ element in all of this. ‘Mutually profitable,’ and everyone doing his/her part fair and square belongs to Three of Pentacles.

Three of Pentacles is a deal. Three of Pentacles is a contract. It’s also the negotiations that go into the agreement, the contract. Its illustration shows the general contractor and/or architect demonstrating to his clients that, yes, he did follow the specs and is entitled to his final draw that is his profit.

Now Without The Pictures

Serendipity: Things just happen to happen for the best without any outside help. That’s today’s story. Just say the word and it’s yours – who’d-a-thunk-it.

An unexpected goody when you aren’t looking.

Ace of Pentacles is the goody – see the hand with the prize money? Judgment is the unexpected – see the folks getting up from their coffins? And Fool is without you doing anything – is when you’re not looking.

Both Fool and Judgment suggest a new life with optimism, a clearing of old mind and a blank slate. Judgment and Fool are both about freedom – a breath of fresh air in each.

You don’t need a book to tell you Judgment is about a new life: People are raised by the dead in the illustration. Judgment is a change, a shift, a new perspective, a sudden awareness. The horn of the angel is announcing, so Judgment also takes on all the say-tell-speak meanings. Combine the ‘new phase’ and ‘second time around’ meanings with speak and Judgment now is also a reminder.

We are on the road with Ace of Pentacles, which turns the angel’s horn (which means alarm for waking up those dead people) into a car horn, possibly the kind of honk that is an alarm.

Fool means ‘nothing.’ Fool isn’t there. Fool forgot. Fool doesn’t know you. Fool is living in his free world. Fool is the maverick you don’t interfere with, and who doesn’t interfere with you. Switch ‘I think therefore I am’ to ‘I don’t think, therefore I am not.’ Fool isn’t a member, isn’t affected. Fool is ‘water off a duck’s back’ and not caring one way or the other. ‘On the road again,’ a song, catches Fool’s vibe.

So both Fool and Ace of Pentacles are on the road.

Fool has a lot of meanings that spread out from this main puddle. He means optimism; youth; to assume; being personally free – a free spirit.

Tarot Readings for You for July 13, 2015 Monday©

GUIDANCE     We look our best, we project our best image as others do the same for us. It’s a secret treaty we all have. We liken this *effort to look good* to the extra effort we make when we are sick, to look normal. We also compare it to what happens inside us as we are aware of our perceived vices and faults, and yet tell ourselves *that’s not really who I am*. Was it Voltaire or Francois de La Rouchefoucauld who said hypocrisy is the homage vice renders to virtue? We are doing a close-up of self-justification here – ours and theirs.

Nine of Wands – Devil – Page of Pentacles

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING and

              LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES

.………..………. .……..…….. Nine of Wands and Page of Pentacles both involve the head, and both are self-conscious in different ways. Nine of Wands has a head wound, and is nervous, edgy and fearful of the return of what hurt him once before. Nine of Wands is concerned about himself, about his safety – with good reason. Page of Pentacles is also concerned – is thinking – about himself. But Page of Pentacles is doing fine and looking good – is consciously projecting a good image.

Nine of Wands and Devil both can mean feeling guilty and/or being fearful, nervous, or almost any bad feeling. They both can mean injury, and both can mean a big problem. Nine of Wands is saying ‘Uh-oh’ sometimes.

Devil of course is any bad attitude or vice or disability, and Devil is flanked on the left by dread and concern for the future (Nine of Wands), and on the right by ‘considering my own part in this’ (Page of Pentacles). Here’s a picture of introspection about ‘it being my fault.’

HOWEVER, in the general application of our spread, Page of Pentacles is ‘thinking’ and ‘thinking about it,’ so the angst and the threat of Nine of Wands, as well as the difficulty of Devil, can be ‘in the head,’ can be about guilt, about defensive attitudes about one’s faults, etc. Notice how Page of Pentacles here today in our spread is a ‘rescue card.’

Mostly our stories are about living with a serious problem, and being concerned about it, having it on our mind.

Nine of Wands…… Nine of Wands’ headline meaning is ‘hanging in there.’ Sometimes, it is advice to do that. Not today, not with Devil next to him! Nine of Wands is the wounded soldier, the border guard still on duty with a head wound, in dread of another skirmish, so it can be about a serious difficulty or a threat or anxiety that is constant. Some Nine of Wands words are: under pressure, tense or tension, harassment, hurt feelings, putting up with it, sweating it out, cornered, trapped, a standoff, worrying, standing up for and defending your position, constant anxiety and tension. You can consider Nine of Wands chronic. Nine of Wands and Devil could be a chronic (serious) ailment, even.

Neither doom nor relief is promised in Nine of Wands. Nine of Wands is usually when there’s nothing in it for you and you are sick of it, but you hang in there. Nine of Wands is being accused (even by yourself) or feeling that way, feeling guilty. Nine of Wands is not getting a divorce and living in some kind of torment, or staying at a job you hate, are used to, and are paid halfway well – staying when your gut is screaming ‘Why?’

Yes, once in a while Nine of Wands is advice to hang in there – but you need a whole different spread for that. Once in a while he is a wounded soldier, a soldier on duty, or a guard.

Devil……..Devil is a very general card, never an anchor, lead, card. It can mean ‘evil’ but isn’t a scary card. It means problem, difficulty, the downside of anything, wrong, disability, bad, awful, guilty, fault, addicted, attached, downside or dark side, undesirable traits of any kind, rude, dislike or hate, sex or sexual, miserable, oppressed, bad mood, feeling bad, pain, hurt, miserable, and words about sickness like illness, ailment and malignant. It can say ‘ugly’ too. It can be derogatory terms for people – like riffraff, thug, lowlife, scum-ball, etc. As a matter of fact, along with Moon, Devil can invite cuss words into your readings. (Both these cards qualify for ‘damned’ literally in their meanings.)

Devil also simply says ‘physical’ and means any sort of physical attachment (clip, clasp, hitch, tie, etc.). It often means obligation or obliged. Its ‘addiction’ meaning extends to any bad habit, so watch for any card that means getting out of, putting it behind, or getting over it to turn Devil into a plus. There are a LOT of these cards, a plethora of them.

Devil’s illustration in Rider Waite is lifted straight out of Middle Ages lore, with added black magic and satanic symbols. Middle Ages had the devil hairy and ugly, with horns and bat wings, and associated with sex. That’s Adam and Eve, of course, loosely chained to the pedestal he squats upon. The torch held upside-down means ‘wrong use of force’ or energy put into hurtful or harmful things.

Page of Pentacles……… Page of Pentacles lets the air out of the tires of its companion cards here today. He is a part-time relief card today. He means thinking, feeling, self, an opinion or a perspective on something. He means ‘mental.’ (That makes ‘mentally disabled’ with Devil.) Page of Pentacles is also the young well-intentioned man who studies (is a student) things, sees things, and who is – identity. So you could say ‘He is guilty’ or ‘He feels guilty’ or even ‘He is looking guilty,’ since Devil means ‘guilty’ and Nine of Wands can be feeling guilty. The presence of Page of Pentacles as the good guy in a three-card spread prevents some of the undesirable interpretations this spread could have.

.

.

Having pressured myself for so long to project this good clean image, I feel dirty by comparison. I feel I’m not who I pretend to be. Yeah, I know everybody is doing the same thing, and that’s what makes us get along as well as we do, and that’s what makes civilization. But I itch to air out my whole self – be who I am – which includes my dark side, you know? The question hanging in the air here is … ‘What if we all did that?’

If one of them isn’t reasonable people, well, he or she is the trouble, and is on the way out. (Applying this process is the hard part, yes?)

Devil – Three of Pentacles – Knight of Swords

.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

..……….……….   Well, Devil is hardly ever good company, and Three of Pentacles requisitions Devil’s ‘company’ meanings. Devil’s easy-to-swallow meanings are not social ones; they are physical ones like attachment, physical, and even dirty or ugly. Well, ‘obligation; is a social term Devil uses. So we have bad company stories. But wait: The other card is Knight of Swords, who makes changes, is in a hurry or rush, pursues or flees, and is a turnaround. His changes can be in, or can be out, of Devil’s problems and trouble. Yup, we got stories today, stories about people getting along (or not), stories about trouble coming or trouble going.

……………………. Devil in Rider Waite is a composite of all the Middle Ages myths about the devil: the horns (which belong to a vicious extinct water predator that had rings of teeth on a sucking mouth in an octopus-type body, was found in wells, and was called ‘leviathan’ in ancient accounts); the bat wings; the hairy goat legs, and satanic symbols. We see the Adam and Eve figures – with horns and tails of their own now, reflecting their kinship with the Evil One on his pedestal. (Curiously, the same configuration is found in Lovers, where it’s the angel’s influence, rather than the devil’s, on the same human couple.) His upside-down torch represents ‘wrong use of power,’ a definition you find in old Tarot books. The loose chains around the human couple’s necks are about attachment to vice being voluntary.

Trouble and problems are Devil’s main words today.

Here are the remainder of Devil’s translates: Mistake, sex, lowlifes, have to be, bad, ugly, wrong, obligation, hard time, addicted, despite, nasty, in spite of, problem, the devil, limitation, rude, disagreeable.

……………………. Three of Pentacles is about people getting together, usually amicably, and doing their part in what they agree upon. That could be a social scene, a deal, a relationship, a physical meeting, a meeting of the minds, and a real estate deal, or deal with a builder or contractor. Three of Pentacles is the contract itself, too. It can even be the blueprint you see in the illustration, or the idea of a blueprint.

‘Relationship’ is Three of Pentacles best word, followed by ‘deal’ or ‘dealing.’ You must remember it applies across the board to any kind of relationship.

…………………… Knight of Swords is speeding or rushing or in a hurry; is turning or doubling back in a hurry (also ‘turnaround’); is pursuing; is fleeing; is a change, shift, or switch. The illustration is about pursuing, with that killer look on his face and that extended blade, but the card (like Knight of Wands) means to leave in a hurry too.

Hmm. Things can go north just as quickly as they can go south: That’s the picture painted here. Shifts in the way we deal with one another – whether its love or business, whether it’s social or litigious – are always brewing, and always have: You work it out, or you get out as cleanly as you can.

LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES

.

Devil………Devil is where things get bogged down and sticky: He is your attachment. Those loose chains on the necks of Mr. Adam and Ms. Eve point out the attachment is loose at your end – that you’re under the influence and you can sober up. That attachment concept gives rise to all sorts of words about obligation, ‘must,’ ‘have to be,’ and so on. No choice … forced to.

You can expect Devil to reference anything disagreeable – anything ugly, nasty, rude, or just low-class, including limitations and handicaps, trouble and problems, hate and fear. ‘Bad’ is a very common Devil adjective.

Devil also means ‘mistake’ a lot and ‘wrong.’ Difficulty and ‘hard time,’ and adversity terms like ‘in spite of’ and ‘despite’ belong to Devil too.

Sickness, especially malignant or fatal or near-fatal sickness belong to Devil. Well, Devil also means sex and sex acts and especially lust (whether it’s just heavy desire or, say, some kind of perverted or fetishistic lust).

Naturally Devil refers to evil, evil acts, evil spirits – evil anythings.

.

Three of Pentacles………....Three of Pentacles shows three people settling up: The contractor and/or architect demonstrates to his clients that he built their cathedral per their blueprint. (In actuality, cathedrals didn’t have blueprints as far as I can tell: They were mostly done piecemeal over very long periods of time by people the church had no intention of paying. Some were even chained to their post, and not even fed much at all.) Be that as it may, here we have the idea of settling up and getting paid what you are owed – or paying another what he/she is owed.

The settling up involves agreement, negotiation, meeting of the minds, people working together, each party doing its part in a contract or agreement.

Three of Pentacles is all about relationship in which each party lives up to what is expected of (him).

Three of Pentacles is also a meeting. Watch for it to consistently and reliably show up for a meeting of three people just in the nick of time.

.

Knight of Swords…….Knight of Swords has simple but contradictory meanings. When you get used to him, you just know what he means by his tone of voice. First of all, this is about rush, hurry, speed, and it can involve being on the road too – easily. He can be running over to your house, or he can be running away from a relationship, or he can be making a U-turn or turning a situation around – for good or ill, actually. He can even, once in a while, be going back and forth, under the influence of a card that also means that. He brings up some slang terms for pursuit, like ‘hellbent’ and ‘hot pursuit,’ whether police or romance.

Knight of Swords can unexpectedly say ‘again,’ ‘no longer,’ ‘no more’ and like terms. His rush can say ’emergency.’ He can even translate words like ‘re-do’ and ‘rectify.’ He also says ‘switch’ and ‘switcheroo.’

This is the card that will show up for a speeding ticket, or a mishap involving speeding.

GUIDANCE      Let’s figure out what the situation is all about, where the problem lies, and get it out of our hair. Inquire before you engage: That’s the suggestion here. The emphasis is on the question, on asking the question, on making sure he’s the devil before you go full-bore attacking him. We discuss being under a bad influence, from making a mistake under pressure to being in jail for disorderly conduct. This is protocol: No one’s getting excited about it … we are cleaning house. Tarot Readings: Let’s Figure the Problem Out (Devil and Seven of Pentacles)

Let’s figure out how to attack the problem.

So is this person wrongly accused or not?

Let me at your big problem; I will figure it out.

Resolved: To ponder what’s gone all wrong.

Being wrong motivates me to question the situation.

I am taken aback and shaking my head, looking at the dark side.

That’s so wrong, and I am motivated to question it.

Face the music, ponder your dark side.

It’s an ugly situation, and I figure it is coming to a head.

Now that I think of it, the hard part was just standing up for myself.

……………..………………

Tarot Readings: Keeping Bad Things and People Away (Devil and Seven of Wands)

Thinking about being rude to intruders.

Asking how much force you can use to defend yourself.

Figuring out how to keep the bad people off your property.

It seems I let my vice go only so far and no farther.

Now I see what they meant by ‘Resist the devil.’

I think it’s ugly and I wouldn’t want it around here.

I think fighting back is an obligation, myself.

They are considering aggressive treatment for this illness.

I think you are a bad-ass and I want you away from me.

Now that I think of it, I’m mad as hell and I won’t take it anymore.

I figure I’ll be an activist before I’m a pessimist.

The worst is not going to happen here, if it’s up to me.

Tarot Readings: Looking at Out-of-Control Scenes (Seven of Wands and Seven of Pentacles)

I look at you flying off the handle like that, and it’s a painful experience.

It seems we’ve got this cranky partner who mouths off.

Looks like he is in jail for disorderly conduct.

What makes a person belligerent when he’s drunk?

It looks like I made a mistake under pressure.

Lust got me going there for a while … yeah.

If they’re that defensive, they must be guilty of something.

I figure it would be a mistake to wade into that mess.

I doubt you are going to be overwhelmed by a bad influence.

Maybe it was wrong to ask the question confrontationally.

Devil – Seven of Wands – Seven of Pentacles

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

.

……….…..….….. We have Devil, which is any kind of problem or bad thing, from making a mistake and being wrong to cancer and a felony. It even means an obligation, a foul mood, and attachment of any kind. Definitely NOT an anchor card, and definitely NOT a scary card most of the time, in spite of his scary presentation in Rider Waite. Yes, it has evil meanings too. (Normally [unless the question opens the door] a companion card is necessary to bring out the evil meanings of Devil.) Then we have resisting, not letting something be around you, in Seven of Wands. Seven of Wands, as regular visitors here may remember, is both the attacker and defending from the attack – the intruder and self-defense from it. Then we have the question, the pondering and inquiry into the situation, in Seven of Pentacles. You can see the story line clearly in the meanings of these cards today.

……………….……….Devil, unless companion cards tell you to the contrary, is most likely to be problem, obstacle, mistake, difficulty, a bad feeling (including being ill), a bad influence, a rude or nasty person or situation, ‘the worst.’ Pictured is the traditional old-fashioned mythical concept of Devil in Christianity and in black magic. Today he is flanked by Seven of Wands who is resisting an invasion or intrusion, defending from some threat – which draws out Devil’s ‘bad influence’ spectrum. Seven of Wands with Devil describes engaging your vice in battle, fighting addiction (which isn’t mentioned in the sentences), and even getting some ugly thing out of your face. ‘I don’t want it, it’s bad,’ or ‘I won’t do that, it’s bad.’ In this spread, we are dealing with a disruptive intruder as a problem to be dealt with – several stories along that line. In this spread Devil is applying mainly to the meanings of Seven of Wands: resisting.

……………….……….Seven of Wands, more than any other card, covers all aspects of the situation it pictures. You had best keep in mind, when it pops up in your layout, that it can be the ‘Gimme the car keys’ person; it can be the ‘mad as hell and won’t take it anymore’ person or situation; it can be self-defense, standing up for yourself; it can be being confronted or being the one doing the confronting. Today we feature standing up for yourself, being accused, and resisting an undesirable person or situation. The illustration shows a landowner defending his place from invading neighbors, outnumbered – but he is expected to win the conflict.

……………….……….Seven of Pentacles, as you can see if you scan the “Now we show where each of the phrases in each of the sentences comes from:”section, means a question or inquiry, to wonder, ponder, and think. Seven of Pentacles, as a card with few and defined meanings, is an anchor card – one of those that you glance at first in your layout. Seven of Pentacles is a ‘Duh’ card – Emily’s nomenclature – that creates a question of your sentence, and means to question … or questionable. You see a fellow who has done the labor that would lead to a crop of cucumbers from that plant, but he will not know whether he will get cucumbers because the plant, to produce, has to have a plant of the opposite sex nearby to do so. So he leans upon his shovel and wonders.

We catch ourselves in that moment that we ask ourselves whether it’s time to engage in confronting an issue or not – and what the issue’s nature really is. This reminds me of the adage ‘Don’t shoot until you see the whites of their eyes.’ We determine whether this is something to fight; whether this is the moment for us to fight it; whether we can win right now. We determine these things first because we are realists. Today’s message is for realists and for realism. ‘Let the games begin,’ they said in the Coliseum.

Now we show where each of the phrases in each of the sentences comes from:

Devil………Devil has to have companion cards before it means the heavy end of its spectrum. That is rare. Devil usually means common vices and faults and ill temper, and words that describe the problem, difficulty, obstacle, or bad thing of your story – or bad person, of course. Devil (Watch for this – it isn’t that obvious.) can mean ‘physical’ and ‘attachment.’ The attachment can be a paper clip holding papers together or anything that, well, attaches one thing physically to another – like a tow bar. Devil is disability, handicap, illness or feeling bad like a bad mood. Devil often puts the word ‘wrong’ and the word ‘worst’ in your sentence.

Seven of Wands………….Seven of Wands today is ‘Get that out of my face’ a lot. Sitting between Devil and a question (Seven of Pentacles) today, Seven of Wands is resisting and figuring out some problem or obstacle, although he does appear as a mouthy pushy person too. As I said above, always keep in the back of your mind that this card, above all others, covers all the sides of its street: defense and intrusion, aggressive entitlement and dealing with the mooch. You see a man defending himself against neighbors who want to take what is his. Neighbors who outnumber him, but he will counter the intrusion successfully.

.

Seven of Pentacles………..Seven of Pentacles is one big question mark. I wonder, I think, maybe, I ponder, and so on. Speculation where the outcome is not known. He has no way to know whether his toil in the cucumber patch will be rewarded with a crop. Cucumbers, as a gendered plant, need a co-pollinator nearby in order to produce. Seven of Pentacles in Tarot Verbatim™ is one of the ‘Duh’ cards that means wonder, ponder, don’t know, think, speculate, maybe, if … and invites you, the reader, to put this sentence into a question.
