Eight of Pentacles
Eight of Pentacles is anything to do with work and workers, mainly; and it’s usually hands-on work unless another card specifies some other activity. (Today Queen of Cups makes Eight of Pentacles say ‘mental work,’ for instance.) Eight of Pentacles can translate forms of ‘doing’ and ‘making’ as Magician can. It can also translate ‘working on’ when employment-type work isn’t what it means – like ‘working on myself.’
Eight of Pentacles expands to mean regular activities, and to mean a steady effort – often, ‘keeps trying to’ or ‘each and every time.’ Anything done over and over may call forth Eight of Pentacles. As a matter of fact, Eight of Pentacles refers to ‘regular’ anything, like, say, cycles or cyclic events like the phases of the moon. A good example here is ‘regular payments’ when Eight of Pentacles is next to Ace of Pentacles, Six of Pentacles, or another card that means payment or giving.
Eight of Pentacles sometimes means ordinary, workaday, mundane, the usual thing. These applications are offshoots from the ‘routine’ category of meanings.
Ace of Pentacles
The main words and phrases for Ace of Pentacles are right; money; road; success; good, and perfect; and possessive pronouns, especially ‘mine.’ You see the road. ‘Right’ comes from the straight and narrow gold path there, with lilies for purity and roses for success. The hand with the gold in it over the gold road is of course the ‘money’ part. Words that mean possession come from the hand holding the coin. Blending two of these meanings, Ace of Pentacles can say ‘the right way.’ Ace of Pentacles, like Ten of Cups, suggests the good people are prosperous.
Queen of Cups
Queen of Cups is most definitely a gal, and she covers two very different types: the naïve woman and the smart woman . First is the woo-woo stereotype gal – because not only is she blond but she is staring at whatever-that-is in her hands as a flood snakes around her seat. This is the naïve believes-in-her-man young woman that Sally Struthers played so well as Gloria on All in the Family. The other type is the woman who knows (similar to High Priestess in that respect), who is figuring something out, or who is knowing and keeping quiet because she is a lady. ‘She understands him and loves him anyway’ type thing. By itself, Queen of Cups means what she knows is her man, but put Queen of Cups with another card, and that tells you what she knows – like today she knows her job next to Eight of Pentacles. Either way, naïve or smart, Queen of Cups is the good woman.
Queen of Cups is such a feminine card that it will translate simply as ‘she’ sometimes. Often, ‘she knows’ or ‘she thinks’ as well, similar to Page of Pentacles.
