Seven of Cups
The black-robed fellow is the sorcerer’s apprentice. He has lost control of the spirits he conjured. So this is the card for out of control, for chaos, for things being bizarre, overwhelming, cattywampus or a mess, or all over the place, for confusion, and for the shock Apprentice is experiencing. Words that describe how it feels to have your spirits out of your control include, today: wild and crazy, ghastly, mindboggling, unnerving, weird, dazzled. Remember that this card every once in a while very aptly says ‘shit hitting the fan,’ and, yes, it looks sort of like that.
Seven of Cups is the Tarot card for miscellaneous items (spilled purse, storm debris, messy house, and your jumbled mind). It is the card for tornado, hurricane, clouds of anything (escaping gas, fog), and something bursting and spilling out (pipeline, hopefully not an artery).
Seven of Cups’ most common applications are confusion, shock, and out of control. It will show up for losing control of a vehicle or a temper.
Page of Pentacles
Here’s one of the almost-embarrassingly simple Rider Waite Tarot cards: Page of Pentacles means a person, various pronouns, and to think, to feel, to have or to get an idea. It’s thinking; it’s what someone is thinking, and it’s the thought itself … or even ‘mind.’ Put a card that means change next to this Page of Pentacles guy, and he’s changing his mind.
Page of Pentacles is an identity card. A page is a knight-in-training, an apprentice, so this is usually a young man or even a student.
Page of Pentacles often combines the thinking-meaning and the person-meaning, to end up saying things like: his idea is; my own thoughts; I pick up what he is thinking; you know; I know that about myself, and so on.
Temperance
An angel with a symbol for healing on his chest pours water and wine together, standing barefoot in a pool, his wings outspread. But strangely enough Tarot Verbatim doesn’t relate to the picture: It doesn’t mean dilution or blending, and seldom involves the angel or healing.
Instead, it is about the back-and-forth – and it applies to relationships, companions, conversations, deals, closeness or intimacy, and two people. The two-people theme is about any two people together in some endeavor, or even two people standing next to one another, or ‘on the same side’ socially or politically. Temperance translates ‘us’ or ‘them’ sometimes, and phrases like ‘between us’ or ‘intimate partners.’ The back-and-forth emphasizes responding, reciprocating, or dealing over and over again between two people or two ‘sides.’ It often refers to conversation, to dialog, or to sharing. The sharing sometimes says ‘what we have in common.’
Very common words for Temperance are ‘transaction’ ‘interaction,’ and ‘deal.’

You get the story with barely a glance: Five of Pentacles is poverty; Eight of Cups is a shift or change. Knight of Cups is a helpful friend. So a friend in need is helped out of a bad time, or you help a friend in need out.
Knowing Knight of Cups is the loving (young or youngish) man, you can see being lonely and miserable when he leaves, or him missing someone who leaves him.
Five of Pentacles and Eight of Cups both are pedestrians, and both can mean not reaching the destination. Eight of Cups is deflected or is detoured from its path, and doesn’t get to the destination – runs off the road. Five of Pentacles passes right by a destination, not even knowing. But Eight of Cups will resume it course, and Five of Pentacles has no open doors.
Knight of Cups and Eight of Cups describe an offer or suggestion changing another person’s direction. The offer-and-acceptance theme can go all over the place here because, first, Eight of Cups is simply into one and out of the other. Second, Knight of Cups can be either offer or acceptance. Knight of Cups and Eight of Cups also describe avoiding being affectionate, since Eight of Cups is to veer away from and Knight of Cups is the affectionate person or boyfriend or buddy. They describe a guy avoiding a buddy. They also describe turning down (Eight of Cups heading in the other direction or walking away) an offer (Knight of Cups).
The third Tarot card to our story, Knight of Cups, is a warmhearted helpful friend. In the romance story, he is the loving fellow who misses her, or the loving fellow she misses, who is gone from their scene. He is lonely, or she is lonely for him – Five of Pentacles is missing someone and being lonely.
In the social story, Knight of Cups is the buddy, the friend, who helps, who offers, who suggests, who is a friend in need, or a friend who helps someone in need.
