Three of Pentacles
The man standing on the bench is showing his clients that, yes, he built their building according to the specifications in the blueprint. They have an agreement; they have an agreeable meeting. Each of them has done his part fairly in the contract they have, and they are getting along, teaming up, as they come to a settlement on the builder getting his last final draw that represents his profit.
Fool
Fool’s meanings are all over the place. Just remember Fool is the Zero, the cipher, the place-holder that changes the value of other cards but has none of its own. So Fool is about the absence of things, Fool is freedom from everything, Fool is open, including the open (subconscious) mind, and Fool is oblivious. Ace of Cups
Ace of Cups is the easy flow of spiritual consciousness into a person and from there into mass consciousness. In this card, Tarot uses Roman Catholics symbols: the dove (Holy Spirit), that ‘W,’ the fountain that represents a human’s five senses that are flowing into the larger body of water. Water is consciousness, and that’s not just Tarot symbology.
Since Ace of Cups depicts God Consciousness flowing from a person to other people, Ace of Cups is the card for God – and Emperor, as the highest authority card, also represents God the Father.

King of Wands
Christians have a word for King of Wands: the natural man. It’s a slur from their perspective. Doing what comes naturally is not Biblical. King of Wands reflects the Middle Ages concept of fiery nature attributed to redheads because red is associated with salamanders (See his pet salamander and salamanders in the pattern above his throne.), and salamanders breathe fire. They called them dragons in Europe in those days because somehow these lizards belched a little foggy stuff. The poor things went extinct, what with knights having to make a name for themselves.
So King of Wands is Archie Bunker: impulsive, uninhibited, opinionated, irritable and edgy.
Fool
Fool as the zero is the starting point, so he represents whatever was before creation happened: the potentiality. Needless to say, not many stories are going to involve that directly. Think of Fool as the blank, the open mind before anything fell into it. The deepest level of Fool is that a spiritual adept is exempt from some physical reality. But we are not using that much either, are we?
So Fool isn’t paying attention, is dissociated from what’s going on below. This is the nut of its practical applications. Fool is not knowing, being oblivious to reality, being ignorant of the fact, being devil-may-care. Fool ignores an acts as if, or acts as if not. Fool doesn’t mind and doesn’t care. Sometimes he is an assumption, and sometimes he is not present!
Judgment
Judgment has meanings to spare! We use quite a few of them, and they all grow out of the angel blowing the horn so loud people suddenly begin life again, becoming their next self. So today we use: become, comes alive, suddenly, changes from, again, all of a sudden, gets over, and next. Judgment is a citizen of the speak/call/say/tell/announce theme, and we make use of that, along with ‘holler’ which combines the speak/say/tell theme with the ‘loud noise’ meaning of Judgment. We also use ‘promoted,’ since promotion is a new phase of life.

Now Without The Pictures |
Fool is ‘footloose and fancy free.’ It comes from being the ‘zero,’ the placeholder, the cipher, in the deck. Fool is associated with youth, with optimism and with not knowing, being oblivious. Fool is the subconscious – the lead card for all things subconscious. The zero is a nascent stage – that’s how that meaning gets to be his. So Fool lives ‘out there’ and is ‘not with us.’
King of Wands is the polar opposite of Fool. King of Wands is very much in the physical world and is a very plugged-in hands-on physical man – the impulsive, edgy, irritated, uninhibited common man. The redhead. You could say the red-blooded redhead. (The redhead thing actually accounts for his meanings. You can find that story on this site if you just Google ‘King of Wands Tarot Verbatim.’
But in their very different ways, Fool and King of Wands are both acting naturally, letting it flow. Fool is tuned into nonphysical reality as he traipses to cliff edge leading his charmed life (?fools and drunks?). King of Wands is letting it flow from his body chemistry, reacting to whatever stimulus he encounters.
So how appropriate that our other card means a change, a new life, and recovering.
Judgment and Fool are both about newborn experience. Fool is coming out of nowhere, and Judgment is being reborn or is starting anew.

High Priestess
High Priestess is one of the esoteric Tarot cards in Rider Waite, which makes her, as the 2, represent the feminine principle (‘Be water.’) of knowing, being receptive, having knowledge of secrets, being spiritual (or even the spiritual plane and its concerns). (Today, Fool brings out the other-plane meanings, because Fool, as the 0 (the zero) has a core meaning of being free of the physical realities and living in the ‘out there.’
You see a seated woman who has a book (TORA) in her lap, and wears a cross necklace, the equal-arms cross that represents the meeting of the physical and the spiritual). She is wearing virgin-Mary blue robes, has a complex headdress out of Egypt (royalty). From Kabbalah, behind her, pomegranates grow, and the pillars of mercy (Binah) and Joachim (justice or severity) appear. (Those words appear in the Old Testament, and I think they are associated with the Ark of the Covenant.) The sliver moon rests at her feet, and her expression is serene.
In practical application in your readings, High Priestess is She Who Knows, the expert, and it also represents ‘everything I know about.’) She knows better, too. She is the lady. She is the other woman (I think this arises from ‘waiting at home for Him to call, and being the single woman – another of High Priestess’ meanings.) High Priestess also represents the Tarot deck – the book is in her lap.
She is seated. Think ‘sedentary woman.’ Here, you get someone who stays; someone who is, or stays, home – which may come up for a woman who works out of her home. Here, you get a bookkeeper (Book in her lap.), secretary, home-bound or wheelchair-bound woman, bookish person, mystic or spiritual person, the quiet lady, the librarian or scholar or research person.
She is one to soak up knowledge: The good listener who remembers what was said. High Priestess appears for someone who is ‘all ears,’ taking it in and appearing not to.
High Priestess is alone, solitary, by herself, so she can support a ‘not participating’ theme that Four of Swords would be a lead card for, and that World would also be a support card for.
Remember that if you ask whether someone knows, and High Priestess comes up, well, yeah. Remember also: This card represents female gender whenever it represents a person or other living thing.
Five of Cups
Five of Cups is the way a hangover feels, and it can mean that. You see a person in a black robe, bent, looking at the vessels of spilled wine which of course represent regret, preoccupation with the past, being sorry, repentance, guilt, being haunted by something, a tragedy, being heartsick. (Now, the robe represents mourning, as well as mourning a death, but it also comes up for a judge’s robes. The spills there can represent any loss of bodily fluids, internally or externally – not only blood but bile, pus, etc.) As a matter of fact, Five of Cups interprets just ‘loss,’ referring to any sort of lost item, or loss of, say self-esteem – intangible losses.
It doesn’t always mean a sad lack; it can simply say ‘not having’ or ‘I don’t have that.’
The fact the robed figure has its back to the full vessels of wine can be advice that you are missing the good stuff in your preoccupation with the not-so-good stuff.
Fool
The underlying meaning of this Tarot citizen is the fact that the spiritual life makes no sense in the physical world, and that being centered in the ‘out there’ mode insulates a person from consequences. The card has yet to interpret directly that way, though. Now you know why Fool is prancing off a cliff with his puppy dog, and going on a hike with no provisions. Tradition says, no, he and the pup will not go over the cliff. “God protects fools and drunks,” we say. Fool lives a charmed life.
Fool is living in the subconscious, in reflexive mode, zoned out, optimistic, naïve, forgetting, not thinking, being unaware, oblivious to physical reality, in trance, blissed out, lighthearted – so it takes another little step and is clueless, is assuming, is ignoring, out in la-la land in any sort of way, including being high. Fool also is in ‘I don’t care’ mode, ‘never mind’ mode, and ‘Don’t worry’ or ‘Don’t worry, be happy’ mode. It also can say ‘Don’t even think about it.’ So Fool stands for youth, for optimism, for faith, for assumptions (especially unfounded ones).
Fool is freedom too. Freedom from restrictions (which Sun also means). Fool is ‘Why not?’ and ‘May as well.’
Fool means not being present, or being absent (including AWOL). Watch for that – it isn’t that apparent, but is more common than you would think.

Fool and High Priestess each refer to the subconscious and to nonphysical planes. Fool and High Priestess refer to spiritual life, in different ways. Together, they would mean that spiritual knowledge (High Priestess) is ‘not knowing’ in the physical world, being oblivious to it (Fool) – which is true, just try it! (High Priestess is also knowing and keeping it secret.)
The contrast between these two cards that each mean subconscious realities is interesting: Fool is being oblivious, and High Priestess is knowing everything. High Priestess is occupying, and Fool is absent.
So we go to the remaining card for the focus of our message. Five of Cups is repentance, feeling oppressed by the past or obsessed or haunted by the past, being so sorry, wishing to God we had done, or not done, something pivotal. Five of Cups is loss. Five of Cups is mourning a loss. Five of Cups is depression. Five of Cups is ‘If only ….’ (Remember, you look for a ‘relief card’ when you have a downer card like Five of Cups, and here it is: Fool.)
So what we are talking about for today is sublimating the agony and angst of past errors through spiritual maturity – that spiritual maturity erases those tormenting regrets we have over past blunders, losses – erases the melancholy, the depression, the guilt we feel about all that stuff. Spiritual maturity erases feeling like a loser or feeling lost, worthless, inferior. Spiritual maturity frees us from the accursed past, we are saying.
What is missing in our three-card dissertation here is some connection by which all this improvement is accomplished. Lovers would be that connection to higher consciousness and to God. It isn’t present here. Our message, therefore, is just about the fact that a spiritual life (High Priestess) frees us (Fool) from the past and its mistakes (Five of Cups).
Note that Fool ‘isn’t here’ and Five of Cups is missing what is lost. Of course, they also say ‘forgetting your trouble’ or ‘dismissing your past.’ They also say ‘free of melancholy or depression.’ (Fool’s part in each of these is: forgetting, dismissing, and free of.)
High Priestess and Fool are ‘spiritual freedom.’ They are also ‘forget the other woman.’ (Fool’s part in each of these is: freedom, and forget.)

Fool
Fool is in another world, has its attention elsewhere. Fool is a mysterious and complex card. Think of the universe before the big bang. Think of the subconscious. Think of the zero which creates the value of neighboring numbers without having one of its own. Fool of course is the zero of the Tarot deck. It translates ‘nothing.’ Fool is free, and free of.
This not-paying-attention is applied in many ways and ends up meaning very different things that way. Oblivious. Ignoring. It doesn’t matter. Being in The Zone in a world of own. Being above it all. Not being present. Not caring. Not knowing. Being optimistic. Not giving a damn. Even ‘not about to.’
Four of Pentacles
Four of Pentacles represents all shades of both repression and restraint. Repressing feelings. Refraining from action. Not letting yourself. Keeping your mouth shut.
Four of Pentacles also represents deep feelings and deeply held beliefs … a lot of depth to it.
Four of Pentacles also represents holding onto … anything. Holding onto money, especially, because he is clutching his cash in the picture.
Four of Pentacles, less frequently, is the outsider. See how he is outside of the town, with his back to it? He’s got a secret too – but not today.
Seven of Wands
Seven of Wands covers the ‘mad at the world and not going to take it anymore’ – standing up for yourself. Seven of Wands also covers the mouthy mooch, the bullying friend or lover or stranger, the pressure tactics of the missionary-salesperson. You see neighbors ganging up in a surprise attack upon a man’s pasture, and him defending himself against those odds. So Seven of Wands is both getting harassed and being abusive. See surrounding cards, and the data in your presenting question, for the distinction. (The landowner is expected to prevail, by the way: the defense wins.)

Fool and Four of Pentacles are both about those gut feelings we get. Fool assumes; Four of Pentacles knows deeply, and neither is communicative. Both are ‘not in on it,’ whatever it is.
Four of Pentacles quietly holds onto, and Seven of Wands has come to take it, or at least to disturb it. Four of Pentacles is quiet, and Seven of Wands is the disturber of the peace. Four of Pentacles is restraint, and Seven of Wands is having a meltdown. Strangely, though, both these cards can translate ‘not letting myself’ because Four of Pentacles is stifling yourself and Seven of Wands is not about to let it get to him.
Four of Pentacles doesn’t take action – and Fool doesn’t even know or care – but there’s Seven of Wands raising hell about it. You can see how a Seven of Wands can make a Four of Pentacles of you, can’t you?
Fool is unconcerned, unaffiliated, not even paying attention … Heck, Fool isn’t even there – but Seven of Wands is defensive and insistent about it, and Four of Pentacles has all these deep feelings about it.
Fool is free, and free of … it all. The other cards both have an attachment that is unsettling them. I think our point is to not be so plugged in today.

Four of Cups
Four of Cups is also as simple as its illustration. You see a fellow who clearly isn’t accepting the offer from the hand in the cloud. He isn’t interested in whatever is being presented. He crosses his arms … and his legs; he looks down; he sits down. He isn’t having any part of it, whatever it is, no matter how many times it’s offered. The cups have piled up there in front of him
Four of Cups is one of what Tarot Verbatim™ calls negators: cards that are negative modifiers like: can’t, not, won’t, never, nothing to do with, don’t want, ‘no,’ no one, don’t, and so on. It isn’t as direct a negative modifiers as, say, Death; it often needs encouragement from a nearby card to make it a plan old negative single word.
Four of Cups, based on its illustrations, more often gives phrases like these today: won’t admit, had never, don’t want, has nothing to do with, what you don’t want, does not reach you, resist temptation, don’t let things get to you, aren’t listening, doesn’t want to know.
Fool
Fool is not one of those simple cards, but today it may as well be, because the company it’s in today limits its expression to what Page of Wands and Four of Cups are already saying: Not interested, not listening, not talking, so Fool is in its ‘Oh never mind’ zone. It is saying ‘I don’t know’ and ‘I don’t know why,’ and ‘I’m not anywhere’ and ‘nothing’ and ‘unaware,’ and ‘I’m no optimist.’ Fool mainly is forgetting, and things like ‘as if’ and the ‘not present’ phrases, today.
Fool is nothing. Literally. He is the cipher, the zero. Fool is not present, doesn’t know, isn’t concerned, is heedless, is young and free, and … well, foolish.
Page of Wands
Page of Wands is talking, and is young and handsome, and is one of the identity cards that can make a ‘he is the one who’ or ‘he is a (fill in what the modifying card supplies). He actually means ‘type of person’ in your spreads (and that doesn’t have to be the good guy, based on the card that gives the input).
Today in his present Tarot company, Page of Wands is limited to words that mean talk, and to pronouns like ‘myself’ and ‘I am.’ He also is young today, and is flirting.

When you have two Tarot cards about not paying attention, and not wanting to hear of it, this is what you will be talking about all right. And what does the other card say? Well, it says ‘talk.’ And it represents a pronoun or person. ‘There’s nothing to talk about so I’m not talking’ is the gist of these three!
Page of Wands and Four of Cups, together, say ‘not listening to you’ or ‘I’m not going to talk about it.’ Fool, by itself, is ignoring. So, you would think we were in for a lot of repetition; but these particular cards are so flexible, and get along so well together making phrases that instead we have infinite variations on a plain and simple theme.
Fool and Page of Wands are about youth, and they both are upbeat optimistic tones. Today, we are just being ourselves and not accepting any more input.

Star
Watch for Star to appear in upbeat stories, and not in other types of spreads unless very heavily aspected by ‘bad’ cards. A shapely nude is singing as she pours two jugs into a ceremonial bath for a celebration at night. Star is feeling good, and therefore being in good health. Star means to be happy, to be crazy about, to feel good all over. Think of Star as singing in the shower and you have the vibe. In fact, Star does translate ‘good vibrations.’Star is a performance, not just in music and singing, but any performance.
Star is a card-carrying member of the speech/tell/say clan. It is about making presentations, which grows out of the performance meanings. Ace of Wands is a very similar card, and you see them pairing up in a Celtic Cross spread, one in each sentence, often meaning ‘has to’ or ‘must,’ and watch it to also mean dominant and ‘must not’ because Ace of Swords is all about orders, commands, ultimatums. Ace of Swords is Number One.

Water is consciousness, and that’s not just Tarot symbology.

Seven of Swords
Here’s his story. He is a foolhardy hero, the daring soldier who pulls off stunts and often survives them where someone else would not. Here, he has sneaked, in broad daylight, into enemy camp before the battle, and is making off with as many of its weapons (swords back then) as he can carry … but he forgot his gloves, and nevertheless is carrying the weighty blades in his bare hands. This is how Seven of Swords gets to mean revenge: We are foolhardy like this when we decide to get even.
Seven of Swords is the bad guy, the criminal, the thief. You are Seven of Swords when you pull off some shenanigan, when you go on an adventure, when you take a chance,when you are sneaky or sneaking, when you have the nerve. You are a victim of Seven of Swords when he is in his thievery mode or worse (He can be an assassin; he can represent an assault). Seven of Swords is a troublemaker and represents risk in one way or another. Derring-do is a very good word for this tricky card.

Fool
Today our Fool is in his or her ‘What, Me Worry?’ mode. Fool is not looking down, not looking around – is disengaged, particularly disengaged from whatever hazards might be. Endowed with such an inner bliss that outer realities are ‘water off a duck’s back.’ He has other meanings, other faces – lots of them, really – but that is who he is being today. And we leave it at that.

Two of Pentacles
Two of Pentacles is another Rider Waite Tarot card that has a closet stuffed to the gills with applications and meanings, like Fool. And, like Fool, he appears in only one of his aspects. Two of Pentacles keeps going. He is about cycles and repetitious things, routines. The juggler is all about timing as he keeps doing the same thing.

Seven of Swords tends to take over a story. I call these ‘star cards,’ because they are the star of the show: All eyes are upon them. The other cards tend to relate to them instead of to one another. Seven of Swords’ lighter meanings are still kinda unwelcome. ‘Adventure’ is its prize phrase, so it can be adventuresome too. It’s the light meanings we access today, influenced by Fool who is VERY light and Two of Pentacles who can be flighty even.
Fool is as special in Tarot as the cipher, the zero, is in the number system. Fool is the zero. Zero is nobody, is ‘just’ a place holder, but it is the foundation of mathematics. It has no value itself, but it determines the value of its neighboring numbers. I could write a book on Fool, and someday I will – just you watch. Today Fool ignores, is unaware, isn’t there, and isn’t affected or impressed. We use only a sliver of Fool today.
Two of Pentacles today uses its ‘continuing’ meanings and its repetition meanings. Only once does it indicate something could go either way – ‘iffy’ – today.
So what are we talking about today? “Carry on.” Keep at it regardless of the environment. Could be you keep your head down and charge forward through dirty water, and could be you are blissfully disengaged and unaffected by whatever drek is around. [Drek is one of those wonderful words in Jewish slang, Yiddish, that roughly means ‘shit’ in the same way we say ‘Shit happens’ in English.]
