GUIDANCE The old man is always walking through the neighborhood, on the way home after a day’s work. He stands out in a crowd as someone who gets along at work and at home, with his warm and caring ways, someone everyone is happy with. A calm older man in whose presence everyone unconsciously sheds their issues, a Mister Rogers sort of guy who is the helpful friend. We are watching him today.

Hermit – An old man is on foot in the snow on a dark night. He carries a lamp to find travelers who could use his help. He takes them back to his hermitage, his monastery where he lives. All the characteristics of his story make meanings for Hermit and more. I will give the full account, quoted from a previous post, at the end of this.
.
Hermit comes to the aid, helps people, is sincerely warm and caring, a helpful and devoted friend.
.
Hermit is all about looking for. The lamp is all about seeing. Hermit applies to investigating, watching, witnessing, inspecting, and even surveillance.
.
Hermit is walking, is on a trip, is on his way. He can be about a journey or a trip. Today he is ‘walking distance’ even.
.
This is an elderly man, and Hermit (along with Emperor) can be an elderly man or person, or elderly people.
.
As a monk, Hermit applies to all sorts of virtues. Today he is sane, honest, sincere, calm, wise, caring, and patient.
.
Some other things Hermit represents are: to know, night, the night shift, and a medic or doctor – because Hermit’s robe are what doctors wore back in the day.
.
And now I reprint here something I wrote in a past post because it’s pithy and memorable:
.
“Hermit – You put a story together about an elderly monk who is a doctor who goes out on frigid mountain passes at night with a lamp to locate travelers, help them, and treat them to a warm bed and hot meal, and you have a lot of elements you can apply to your Tarot story. He is on the road, on a trip. He is also a guide, and a wise counselor. Hermit is sane, rational, logical. This card applies to objective and realistic perspectives.
Let’s talk about the meanings he uses in today’s story, shall we? He is an old man, so ‘elderly’ belongs to Hermit. He is helping people, is devoted. He is out looking, which covers ‘search’ and looking or watching, and which expands to ‘investigation’ and inspecting.
He is on foot, which brings you ‘pedestrian’ at times, and which also expands to ‘comes to’ – being the person who comes to another person. It is night time and he has a light, which brings any night scene, the word ‘night,’ and its synonyms, and also phrases about a flashlight or other light. (For instance, Hermit with Chariot can be night driving, or even the view from a car’s headlights.)
Hermit is a monk, so it can interpret as characteristics of a religious, including such virtues as: patient, calm, devoted, honest, values, and chastity (not being sexual) – which, these days, turns into being true to a lover, being straight, etc.
Hermit is also a friend, which grows naturally out of doing things for people – a helpful friend, a devoted friend.
Hermit is an old man, so this is the card for elderly man or men, or elderly people.
Not today, but Hermit is the main card for doctors and other medics. His clothes designate him as a doctor in the Middle Ages.
You know how people call someone who keeps to himself and minds his or her own business a hermit? Well, I can’t remember this card ever stepping up to that plate, but maybe you will live to see it? (There are several other cards that perfectly describe the mind-your-own-business homebody lifestyle, so Hermit doesn’t need that designation.)”
Eight of Pentacles – Today we use the three main meanings for Mr. Eight of Pentacles: (1) constant, steady, and always; (2) job and work; (3) increasingly and ‘more and more.’
Ten of Cups – You see the couple, the family, and the neighborhood in this picture. And those are the major Ten of Cups headline meanings.
In Tarot Verbatim™ it is one of three marriage cards, and each of those represent any kind and any size of group of people. Ten of Cups concentrates on good guys and good groups: it even means happiness, getting along, people you know like and trust: your community or their community. The well-adjusted people (but I hate that phrase). It translates ‘everyone’ too.
.
Ten of Cups is family, home life, family members, family reunion … and one big happy family. So it can be a good family relationship as well as a good marriage.
.
Ten of Cups is the neighborhood card, and one of the cards for single family home as real estate. The house, especially the house in a good neighborhood of course; and Six of Cups also means just that. It can be a building once in a while, as today when you have the inspector, and a job inspecting houses.

Here are three normal-everyday-life Tarot cards, nothing esoteric. Can you see
Hermit as Mr. Rogers and
Ten of Cups as the neighborhood? – and
Eight of Pentacles as ‘that’s what he

.
Eight of Pentacles is work, and
Ten of Cups is home, so you think of
working
at home. And
Ten of Cups is happy, so you think ‘
Happy at
work.’
Ten of Cups is
everybody, or
a group of people, or
a family, so ‘
Everyone

Working for
family.’
Ten of Cups is
marriage, so ‘
Working on
the marriage.’
.
There’s no threat or drama to the stories these three cards tell.
Hermit is looking, and
Eight of Pentacles is
doing the same thing over and over, so the subject of their stories tend to be
Ten of Cups, which is
happy,
prosperous, and
normal. The End.

(There are several other cards that perfectly describe the mind-your-own-business homebody lifestyle, so Hermit doesn’t need that designation.)
Eight of Pentacles – Here is a nice simple Tarot card about work and steadily doing something. The carpenter is busily making identical pentacles one after the other. That ‘one after another’ and that steady effort bring Eight of Pentacles words like ‘always,’ ‘frequently,’ ‘continue,’ and even ‘still’ – anything about consistent and persistent activity or traits.
.
Most of the time Eight of Pentacles is about work, workers, job, workplace, employment, labor, the doing of something, and the person (or persons) who do it. Eight of Pentacles is one of the ‘hands-on’ Tarot cards too.
Three of Cups – Three of Cups overlaps Three of Pentacles’ meanings, several of them – especially in the way both these Tarot cards apply to sharing in both business and social relationships. Three of Pentacles emphasizes each party participating fairly according to agreement, and Three of Cups emphasizes social sharing, enjoying life, and celebrating.
.
Note that both Three of Cups and Three of Pentacles can involve profit and profitability.
.
Three of Cups and Three of Pentacles are people (especially three people) getting together for a mutual purpose. Three of Cups is about people who have something in common, people who are likeminded – and especially young women who socialize, who are dating, who are girlfriends – of one another, or of a fellow. Camaraderie and celebration – upbeat feelings – are the tone of Three of Cups.
.
Three of Cups is about sharing life with a woman, or simply says ‘sharing his/her life’ in some context.

Tarot Readings: Job is Threatened? (Eight of Pentacles and Page of Swords)
Your job may be threatened, be looking for one.
Job searches make me anxious and uncertain.
Whatever the uncertainties or upsets are on the job, be calm.
Overseer keeps asking questions, making us nervous.
I doubt the employees know how bad things could be.
I come to work and wonder “What, now?”
See there’s nervewracking work for me to do, and doubt I will do it.
Can I keep doing this job of being patient with people who are mad?
Paranoid about being under suspicion and is being watched at work.
Questions being asked in an investigation at our workplace have us on edge.
Anxiously wondering whether investigations are continuing.
Tarot Readings: Helping Touchy People (Hermit and Page of Swords)
How can I help my edgy coworker?
It’s my job to comfort people who are fearful and unsure of themselves.
Always seems to be in peril looking for help.
Keep asking him questions calmly when he is hyped up.
Why does he take umbrage when I keep offering to help?
Looking at the facts, I ask why you are so apprehensive every time.
Miscellaneous Tarot Readings

Asked one question after another and pressured to be honest.
When I am anxious, I ask why and do things that calm me down.
A supportive friend is anxious to help however, and however often.
It’s irritating to watch someone doing something he knows so little about.
Now, Part Two,
Do you want to know a little, or a lot, about how this Tarot Verbatim™ thing works? If so,
*Go to Learn Tarot by Observing section below. This tells about the combined four pictures in the Tarot Readings – the pictures above here. It explains how these four cards get together in your mind to make the messages. HERE ARE PHRASES FOR ALL SIX 2-CARD COMBINATIONS is a stream-of-consciousness bridge to your subconscious if you use it regularly – people report.
*Go to Learn Tarot by Pictures. It is what each of the four cards, by itself, has to say. It shows you how that illustration makes that card’s meanings in today’s Spread. All the words of each Tarot card reading you see here are a phrase-by-phrase translation of the scene pictured on those cards: no filler, no psychic impressions, no spirit guide. Word-for-word Tarot Verbatim™.
You can put all this together and intuitively see yourself how Tarot Verbatim™ works.
This is a group reading, with no Questioner and no Question to limit what the cards say, so there’s more variety – even contradictions – and also the pronouns are more flexible. If it feels like it’s yours, and it says ‘he,’ and you’re a ‘she,’ feel free to adopt it anyway.
Page of Swords
Seven of Pentacles – Hermit – Eight of Pentacles
.
Seven of Pentacles and Hermit are both inquisitive, both looking. Seven of Pentacles is look at and wondering; Hermit is look for and wandering. Both could be about an investigation.
Seven of Pentacles and Page of Swords Seven of Pentacles with Page of Swords brings up ‘anxious and uncertain.’ Seven of Pentacles doesn’t know and is concerned; Page of Swords doesn’t know and is fearful or panicky. This is maybe the third or fourth time this combination has appeared here.
Hermit is looking for or looking at, seeing, seeing things as they actually are, and means the truth, a search, being supportive, helpful and sincere as well as patient. Hermit is also a friend … and monogamous or celibate. Its meanings lead here.
Page of Swords is that mood that something’s out there, we can feel it, and we don’t hear or see anything. Things that go bump in the night type mood. Adrenalin frenzies? This may be an excitable or even paranoid person.
Our main story here is about being upset about an unknown, being tormented by uncertainty, and comforting or dealing with such a person. Being calm, calming yourself down, and calming others down is featured. The readings suggest we get more upset than warranted by the facts, even if there are some facts that are upsetting.

Hermit A monk who is a physician goes out on the road at night seeking to help travelers, lighting his path with his lantern. Look at the phrases this illustration gives rise to today: looking for or looking at, see, watch, searches, patient, calm, come to, investigation, know, understanding, assess, doctor, coming to see you, supportive friend, and phrases about not having sex.
Eight of Pentacles is keeping at it, work, doing the same thing over and over, workplace, employee(s). Watch for it to mean ‘keep ___ing’ – with any verb where the underline is. Phrases like ‘what to do’ and ‘my own doings’ and ‘still do the same things’ belong to Eight of Pentacles too. Language like continual, constant/constantly, chronic, always, all the time, day-to-day, one after another, and ‘each and every’ belong to Eight of Pentacles too.

Hermit and Star both are sincerity and warm feeling. Hermit and Eight of Cups both refer to a journey walking – and one is a pilgrim and one is a monk. We begin with Eight of Cups which in Rider Waite commonly means: avoid, abruptly, change, quit, drop everything and immediately, suddenly. Then we have the Hermit, whose common meanings are to look, to seek, to find, to observe, sincerely, knows, the fact, honest. Then the Eight of Pentacles which is about work and what you are doing. We close with Star which is about talk, confessing love, praise, being happy and healthy, and even a performer.
The comment for your six months says things go well at work, things change for the better, and love is sincere. I’ll drink to that … after Lent.
Eight of Cups: Common phrases for this guy are: avoid, abruptly, change, quit, drop everything and immediately, suddenly. The picture shows what is supposed to be a pilgrim turning a forced corner in his course.
Hermit: He too is out at night walking on a journey. Hermit usually means to look, to seek, to find, to observe, sincerely, knows, the fact, honest.
Eight of Pentacles: Here’s the guy crafting one item after another. He is busy working at his bench. This is often about a steady effort and calls up phrases involving the word ‘keep’ and ‘keeping.’
Star: Health, happiness, to talk, to confess love, feeling good. The illustration shows a nude figure pouring something into a bathing pond.

Working for the church, being a devout member.
This spread immediately suggested the Moral Majority to me! even the Tea Party people! No ‘spoiler’ cards here! Both the Hermit and the Hierophant (pope) are churchy cards, and the Ten of Cups is the good people of the community, the happy marriage. The other card’s main meanings are work/workers/workplace and consistently doing something. So, are we on the straight and narrow or WHAT, here?
Today’s messages tell us there are good people around us and we can find and join them; tell us that life is or can be nice and normal; tell us that the workplace can be peaceful. No nasty surprises to look out for today!
Hermit: The story of this Rider Waite Tarot card is about monks who would search for travelers to help them at night. Its common meanings are to seek, to look for, to search or search for, to look out for, to be out at night, to be monogamous or celibate, to be honest, kind, considerate, helpful, and also the truth, the facts. It means ‘to look into’ or an investigation as well. Here, the phrases arising from the Rider Waite Hermit card are: monogamous, looking for/looking, honest/honest man, patiently, devoted/devout, warm and caring, helps/helpful, counselor, knows how, inspect, old man, investigation, the fact is, comfort, see to it, and supervises.
Eight of Pentacles: Here is the carpenter working consistently turning out one identical item after another on his work bench. This card consistently refers to work, repetitious movements, repeated action, workplace, profession/professional, construction work, the actual doing of something. It is one of the anchor cards since it is an ‘old faithful’ in these meanings.
Ten of Cups: This refers to a group of people, in a positive way. Your circle, your family (or someone else’s whom you are asking about) the people, community, the good people, and so on. It also means happy and ‘happily after, and – best of all – a happy marriage or family.
Hierophant: First of all ‘Hierophant’ means ‘pope.’ I read a Tarot book by a (black) magic-oriented person that instructed: When you pull this card, just quit for the day. Really. The full main meaning of the Hierophant is about the difference between what the common folk are taught and the actual church teachings for the cognoscenti (ones in the know). Anyway, as you might expect, in Rider Waite this card is about such things as normal, everyday, behaving yourself, ‘correct’ and ‘right,’ harmless, safe and playing it safe, ordinary, the official story, the ‘on paper’ or ‘fit to print’ version. It means commit and commitment, and ‘true to.’ You can fill in much of the rest, can’t you?
Death
Six of Pentacles, Eight of Wands, Six of Cups
Business/Other Perspectives:
An increase in pay, not (just) for being good.
More money being paid (to you), not as a gift.
A lot of attention, not (just) because you are nice.
He is paid to not talk about what used to be.
No increase in the pay you actually receive.
More attention when he/she isn’t being good.
No more children to spend money on.
Too many bills to pay: No more kids!
No more bills than in the past.
Lots more attention, not like it used to be.
Not spending all that money like you used to.
Making more money, not like in the past!
Romantic Perspective:
When he isn’t sweet to her, he gets a lot of attention.
More and more romantic attention in the end.
He gives her lots of gifts when she isn’t sweet.
She ends up with him giving her a lot of money regularly.
He doesn’t talk romantically but gives her money/gifts.
When she isn’t sweet to him, she gets a lot of attention.
When he is giving her more loving attention, he ends it.
She does not get all the romantic attention she deserves.
He sends her a lot of romantic messages/texts, and stops.
Does not spend that much money on gifts.
Ends the love affair by sending texts.
He doesn’t pay child support regularly.
Says it is not his child in court.
No increase in child support payments.
Don’t talk about loving or pay any attention.
Someone is giving and someone is receiving (Six of Cups suggests a girl) and it’s sweet/romantic and/or relates to the past, and there is more of it. The different scenarios are from putting the cards together in different ways. This spread is a good exercise for that, actually. I invite you to make four lists of the words – one for each of the individual cards, below – and creatively weave sentences together in different ways yourself.
Six of Pentacles: To pay. To receive. Wages, bills, to spend. Fair, fairly, a fair price. Court proceedings. To pay attention to someone, or receive that. The illustration shows an employer measuring exactly the wages of employees.
Eight of Wands: The wands are flying in the air, a lot of them, looking like lines of writing. Meanings related to this Rider Waite Tarot illustration are things like: increase, more, a lot of, talk/says/words, attention, spend money on, texts, regularly.
Six of Cups: Well, there it is again. You would think there were several of these in the deck. I check for that, okay!? Little boy gives little girl flowers in the courtyard of a picturesque old home. It speaks of romance, sweetness, home, gifts, children, trust, loving feeling.
Death: In this spread, the Death card does not work well as a negator for some of the meanings, due to the interlocked meanings of the other cards which have to talk about receiving – receiving love, gifts, money, attention, etc. So it means things like stop, in the end, and commands of ‘don’t’ and ‘isn’t’ and so on.
Eight of Pentacles
Page of Cups, Six of Swords, Hermit
Avoids asking for help, every time.
Know to avoid doing something stupid.
Dummy will get over it and learn how to do it professionally.
When he is dumb about how to do something, he looks for a way out of doing it.

The way to avoid questions is to demonstrate doing it.
Ask for help, but times will be better on the job.
Would be silly to leave when there’s professional help coming.
Keep doing (it) the same way, the way you know how, to avoid looking foolish.
Now he is doing the honest sincere things and isn’t suspect anymore.
Looking for a job, maybe out of town.
His job is to look for people who left under suspicious circumstances.
Keeps asking people who are leaving for help.
Inspect the work so maybe things won’t be as bad.

Why look for a job when you will be leaving?

He keeps teaching, why doesn’t he just leave?
Well, today’s Saturday, and this talks about work, job. It’s fairly miscellaneous, too. Maybe I will do another if I have time.

Well, duh, leave this job and go looking is another thing you could make of these four Rider Waite Tarot cards. These cards admit of several interpretations. Maybe you can apply all or some of them to your circumstances.
