Hermit His story is that he goes out of his way looking for people to help, for a living. He is a monk. He is out on the road, with a light on the path, looking for travelers to bring to the monastery, feed them, and give them a warm clean bed and maybe some religious advice or counseling. So he is patient, kind, is a friend, is wise. He is a doctor, the way he is dressed. He is also an old or older man, is peaceful, is someone you can trust, is sincere, is chaste, and is on the spiritual path.

.

Hermit also is about a search of any kind, from looking for your keys, to a search party, to searching for a love, to searching of course for God. Hermit also means humility – how could we miss that one?

High Priestess The first four Major Arcanae have esoteric meanings based on a special interpretation of the four letters in the Hebrew alphabet of God’s name. High Priestess, as the 2, represents the feminine or female principle, which is passive on the physical and active on the mental-spiritual planes, if I remember what I read right. This is why you see all the Kabbalah symbols around High Priestess, and why she has all the meanings about staying and not going anywhere or doing anything, but knowing all. This is also why she translates any feminine pronoun, and is often ‘the lady.’ She is associated with being quiet, being private, and knowing secrets.

.

High Priestess is a member of the know/understand/aware Tarot tribe, and this card applies to being expert at something (anything).

.

High Priestess, like World, is isolated or cloistered, not accepting influences or interference from outside. They mind their own business.

.

We are not using many of High Priestess’ meanings here. You can Google ‘High Priestess Tarot Verbatim’ and read the archives of this site.

.

Five of Wands What are these guys doing, and why? Someone joked on Facebook that they’re taking down a tepee. They are fighting, or this is a sports activity. They are putting forth a lot of effort and energy. The very common translates for Five of Wands are: fight, effort, trying hard, conflict, exercise, struggle, resisting and resistance, against, oppose, competes, and aggressively.

.

Today we bring up martial arts, which combines the idea of fighting and competing.

.

Remember that physical activity is not the be-all and end-all of Five of Wands, that is means simply ‘against,’ ‘oppose,’ and it even means ‘try hard’ and ‘exercise.

Hermit is a friend, and Hermit goes outside, and Hermit does things for people in a caring way. High Priestess is holed up minding her own business and doesn’t poke her nose outside. She is bookish and he is activist.

Five of Wands is activity, trying hard, energetic effort. Five of Wands opposes, competes, struggles and fights. We ask ourselves what he is doing in the company of the lady and gentlemen here.

.

Note that we use more of the rarer not-mainstream meanings today. Hermit is ‘on the way,’ and is the peacemaker. He is also watching, which is a solid member of Hermit’s dictionary. High Priestess is ‘on the sidelines,’ which is not. We use ‘private’ or ‘privately for both of them, and we use forms of ‘know’ for both of them.

Tarot Readings for You for April 21, 2013 Sunday(c)

Some people handle the difficult situations well and – with their skill set – take care of the rest of us who are in their circle. We who don’t have that skill feel uneasy about that particular situation as the mama takes care of it … and us. Another facet of today’s Tarot talk is the ‘How long is this going to go on?’ feeling about either a comfy situation or an onerous one. We also question things that are too, too conventional.

Queen of Pentacles

Hierophant – Ten of Wands – Page of Cups

3 Tarot Readings: Suspect, Doubts, I think, Seem, Question (Page of Cups)

I have my talents, but sometimes I suspect I am slower than normal.

This is soo arduous, but somehow she can pass it.

It’s so hard she doubts she has the skill to pass it.

Why am I feeling so down when everything is okay and she is here to take care of things?

She has the ability to keep things as they should be indefinitely, I think.

I think we are safe indefinitely due to her backing us.

She has some idea she is supposed to take such good care of us.

As long as mama takes care of (him), (he) will probably be okay.

Commitment comes so slowly as he doubts the woman who cares for him.

I feel very strange the way she babies me …. Don’t I pass here?

He questions religion a lot, as much as she is devoted to it.

He asks her why she contributes so much to the church.

As a foreigner, it’s going to take a while to fit in, but I can do this.

I seem to handle the conventional routine well, but I am sick and tired of it.

The question of its long-term safety is raised, and that is her skill.

Even with her help, it is difficult to be straight when you’re gay.

Tarot Readings: Questioning What’s Normal (Hierophant and Page of Cups)

How long has it been since I balanced my budget?

Which of your abilities are average, and which are off the scale?

Why am I talented at things that are very boring?

How can so much of my budget go to staples (necessities)?

Will it always be the way it usually is for our bookkeeping?

Will she always be able to handle this like she does now?

She has kept things they way they should be for how long?

Normally, things are depressing: What can this woman do for us?

It usually takes a long time. What can she do about this?

Considering how depressing things are in normal times, what can she do for us?

Can she give us more than she usually does?

How can she do this clean living for so long at a time?

Haven’t the bookkeeper’s skills always been acceptable?

Is your devotion to him too conventional, too traditional?

Tarot Readings: Goofy, Disoriented, Silly, Crazy, Stupid Idiots (Page of Cups)

I have always been harmlessly goofy, and I care for people.

She takes care of a disoriented person who will never be normal.

She devotes herself to religion way too much, it’s silly of her.

Hmmm, I have a hard time making this crazy thing realistic to her.

She deals ably with this stupid stuff for so long it feels normal.

It takes a long time to straighten this idiot out, but she can do it.

Hierophant You know how people say “Is the pope Catholic?” Well, that ‘Of course’ groove is what this illustration of the pope expresses. Hierophant is the usual and normal situation, the way it should be, okay, routine, safe, harmless, acceptable to all. It also refers to religious and church and things that are official, or the word ‘officially.’  Hierophant means approval or approved, and ‘passing’ as in a passing grade or being accepted in a social circle.

Ten of Wands Here’s a fellow who takes on everything in one load, which slows him down, but he will make it there step by step. Ten of Wands is a long time or long term, always or never, taking on a burden, it is slow going or will drag out. Bent under that load on his back, he is feeling down, the extreme of anything or the word ‘extremely,’ and ‘too much’ or an excessive amount or number.

Page of Cups Page of Cups is one of those ‘asks a question’ cards in Tarot Verbatim(TM), and it means silly or goofy, feeling strange or awkward or foreign. This is you having a blond day too. As much as Hierophant fits in, Page of Cups does not. As a young man dressed in women’s clothes, this can represent a bisexual or homosexual person. As a fella who carries a fish around in his cup, he also represents a misfit of any kind, including obvious mental and social disabilities.

Queen of Pentacles People like Queen of Pentacles handle difficult situations well and use their skill sets to take care of the rest of us, don’t they? This is the loyal and talented woman who uses her resources for taking care of or backing, contributing talent or ability to, often, family members. This is a skilled, able person who manages money and her people. Sometimes she is matriarchal.

Four unrelated Tarot family members here, which usually makes stories, narratives. Queen of Pentacles is the only card with action, and the action is taking care of or backing, contributing talent or ability to, often, family members. This is a skilled, able person who manages money and her people.

The other three Rider Waite Tarot cards mean:

Hierophant is the usual and normal situation, the way it should be, okay, routine, safe, harmless, acceptable to all. It also refers to religious and church and things that are official, or the word ‘officially.’

Hierophant means approval or approved, and ‘passing’ as in a passing grade or being accepted in a social circle.

Ten of Wands is a long time or long term, always or never, taking on a burden, it is slow going or will drag out, feeling down, the extreme of anything or the word ‘extremely,’ and ‘too much’ or an excessive amount or number.

Page of Cups is one of those ‘asks a question’ cards in Tarot Verbatim(TM), and it means silly or goofy, feeling strange or awkward or foreign. As much as Hierophant fits in, Page of Cups does not. As a young man dressed in women’s clothes, this can represent a bisexual or homosexual person.

Our Daily Spread January 26, 2012 Thursday©

Advice How normal differences are! – and people can settle them rationally and peaceably by getting together and explaining themselves.   Whether it’s love or business or family or the larger human groups.   We are speaking of peaceful combat, which is what sports and courts of law try to be. We suggest a mentality of being very direct with our truth in order to engage the other side in settlement.   That’s a good way to fight, we are saying here.

Hermit
Five of Wands – Three of Pentacles – Star

Loving Relationship (Three of Pentacles + Star)

An honest man who loves with all his heart and tries hard in a relationship.

Honest effort to be loving in this relationship.

Tells the truth when he says he is doing his part with all his might.

We travel to meet together to do activities we enjoy.

Not only tells you (he) loves you but is doing everything (he) can to be supportive and do (his) part.

Crazy about you and willing to do my part in our relationship, trying hard to be loving and kind.

When you love someone who is combative, you have to be the one who is understanding in that relationship.

It’s true some people are competitive even in their love relationships!

You see you have competition in your love relationship: There’s three of us!

We settle our differences by honest discussion.

Lover’s Quarrel (Five of Wands + Star)

It’s true we enjoy one another’s company even when we are fighting.

Lover’s quarrels are settled nonsexually.

Talk out your conflicts and settle issues peaceably.

An honest relationship includes discussions about conflicts.

We get together and argue (heated discussion) about what the facts are.

Patiently negotiating terms of our relationship in a heated discussion.

His concept of a loving relationship involves word battles.

Business: Team Effort (Five of Wands + Three of Pentacles)

Explain the facts to the team engaged in the effort.

Dedicated enthusiastic people on the team effort.

Seeking consensus through vigorous discussion.

Patiently negotiating terms of a deal in heated discussion.

Vigorous discussion examining and negotiating terms of a deal.

The three of them do verbal sparring to come to an understanding and agreement.

Making an honest profit in a competitive business requires optimism and faith.

The business of religion is to talk to people and get them engaged.

.
Getting Together for a Fight (Five of Wands + Three of Pentacles)

Some things, we all agree, are fighting words in spite of being true.

Old people love to get together and fight about things.

They all watch a fight and talk about it.

Telling the truth makes people you deal with fight with you.

When religious people get together, they have word battles.

Telling the truth in a legal battle.

Meeting to debate the facts.

Miscellaneous

We agree together on offering to help people who are struggling.

Three of us have cogent viewpoints that conflict, so we are talking it out.

Doctors get together to discuss what they are doing, and they disagree.

Explaining the role of exercise in good health.

These doctors are averse to us having good health – it’s business, you know.

Getting together and explaining yourselves is a rational approach to differences of opinion.

People can settle an issue between (or among) them rationally and peaceably by getting together and talking it out.

Religious (monks) at a cathedral are engaged in an effort to have faith and be optimistic and cheerful.

Investigators gang up and try hard to get a confession.

Hermit
Five of Wands – Three of Pentacles – Star

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

Our Tarot panelists have met here in your mind for a rational discussion about differences, about struggle, about issues of competition and combativeness.  These four belong together:  Their message is unified and cogent.  It is the same message whether it is applied to lovers or business.  Noteworthy, though, is the fact that three of the four refer (or can refer) to religion:  Three of Pentacles is in a cathedral;  Star can be an ablution (ritual cleansing);  and Hermit shows a monk.

Five of Wands, our central or ‘star’ card, is fighting, struggling, competition or combat – or trying hard.  Its core is energy engaged – usually with other people, but it can mean activity or exercise too, or even just trying hard, a big effort.  It can also mean averse or against or opposition.

Today the Five of Wands expenditure of energy refers to:  (1) a meeting to settle things, Three of Pentacles, which is also relationship or business deal or meeting;   (2) Star, talking, explaining, spilling your guts, expressing, being in love, feeling so good, being healthy;   (3) Hermit, rational look and examination of the facts, helping others, old man, coming to or traveling to, patient, peaceable, supportive friend (or just friend).

So today’s story is about how normal differences are, and people can settle them rationally and peaceably by getting together and explaining themselves.

LEARN TAROT BY THE PICTURES

Five of Wands illustrates its meaning well. Five fellows going at one another with big boards means fighting, struggling, competition or combat – or trying hard. Its core is energy engaged – usually with other people, but it can mean activity or exercise too, or even just trying hard, a big effort. It can also mean averse or against.
Three of Pentacles in Rider Waite pictures a final inspection of a building (a cathedral) by an architect. His largest payment is the final one, so this is a business deal, and it is about real estate. They are coming to a meeting of minds about the blueprint having been followed. They are settling up. The card comes up for any meeting of three people, and for a relationship of any kind.

Star shows a female singing or performing in an outdoor bath, feeling good. It may be an ablution (ritual cleansing). Singing in the shower. Star means talking, explaining, spilling your guts, expressing, being in love, feeling so good, being healthy, being optimistic and having faith. Also being in love and confessing love.
Hermit Here we have a monk going out with a light in the cold dark night to look for travelers who could use his help. He is the helpful kind peaceable patient friend, a supportive person. He is looking for and carrying a light, so the meaning of Hermit is rational look and examination of the facts, helping others, old man, coming to or traveling to, patient, peaceable, supportive friend (or just friend).

A lot of effort goes into how gorgeous this gal is, and her honey is attentive

Five of Wands King of Cups, Empress, Hermit

He puts her on a pedestal, is affectionate and devoted to his goddessy doll because there’s competition. She is one of those high energy beauties whose men are calm, patient, and adoring. A lackluster guy (Prince Charles type) has a gorgeous sexy lady but goes out looking for action. A lot of effort goes into how gorgeous this gal is, and her honey is attentive. There’s a lot of competition for a beauty like her; men come to her to be her man. Two gentlemen compete for the trophy lady. She has been good to her gentlemen friends in their struggles. She is the benefactor of the man who helped her in her fight with the government/bureaucracy. She is the patron, gentlemen come to her to compete for her largesse. A wealthy woman has two patient older men competing for her. He is a patient man looking for the goddessy lady whose battles he can fight. A woman this voluptuous, easygoing and generous is worth his effort to sincerely be her sweet guy. See that great looking wealthy sexy doll in the middle there? She is the fertility goddess of a dozen old religions that had no aversion to good sex, unlike most of the modern religions. Now, how did good sex get out of fashion, anyway? To her left and to her right are older men who are the patient, emotional devoted type, and overall is the struggle or competition. So this story is pretty well laid out along those lines, although I found some variety outside of that. Advice is that when a woman knows what she has to offer is goddessy, men who adore her will appear and compete. Seems to me that the advice to menfolk is to go find that goddess who is worth competing for.

Meanings and Illustrations:

King of Cups: Here is the vice president, the deferential gentleman, and/or the emotional warm fuzzy man … sometimes the lackluster fella who may drink. He can be patient and laid back, or he can be the passive-aggressive narcissistic whiny type. As you can see, they painted water swirling around his stone throne, with ships tossed up and down behind him. Water is emotion, so he is one stirred up dude. Empress: As I said, that great looking sexy doll, that voluptuous and/or wealthy, laid back generous dame is the fertility goddess. She lives a life of luxury and romance. The shield with the female symbol there is a sign of who she is, ya think? Hermit: Devoted, that’s what a monk is. He’s not being a monk today, though, he is attentive to the fertility goddess. The illustration shows the monk who went out at night to help pilgrims in distress. Five of Wands: Here’s the competition, fight, struggle. Five fellas knocking boards together. It can be combat or it can be a competitive game.

He realizes she knows everything about him and isn’t letting on.

World High Priestess, Ten of Wands, Page of Pentacles

Romantic Perspective: He sees that she can stay by herself forever, she can shut everything (him) out. He feels she is too much a lady to let him near her. She figures she will always be alone, she is that disinterested in getting involved. She is a lady with a sexy figure, the subject of extreme interest by guys. He is coming to the conclusion that two women are too many. He thinks she is sexy but too much a lady. He has compartmentalized her in his thinking as too much a lady. Too much thinking and the girls won’t be interested in him. Other Perspective: She shuts herself up with her books in some really difficult study. She is a seeker of extreme spiritual knowledge and expertise, she concentrates on that to the exclusion of all else. This woman is deeply interested in high-level magick. He thinks too much, but she knows everything about it and won’t let him in on it. It will take him a while to understand about being a spiritual master of both worlds. He realizes she knows everything about him and isn’t letting on. She is an expert in some weighty study no one even thinks about. Arcane knowledge comes from long hard study, a lot of concentration. Both the High Priestess and the World refer to high-level spiritual expertise: High Priestess is, well, the High Priestess; and World is the Master of Both Worlds. The two cards in between read ‘know everything about.’ Ten of Wands is the whole thing, the difficult extreme. Page of Pentacles is ‘to know.’ Both High Priestess and Page of Pentacles refer to knowing … in different ways. Advice is that when another person is studious about some interest, getting their attention personally on yourself is not that feasible. There’s a suggestion you may as well get interested in whatever that subject is yourself. There’s an obvious emphasis on the study of spiritual expertise or of magick. These days ‘magick’ is New Age type interest.

Meanings and Illustrations:

High Priestess: The lady. The woman who is alone, lives alone, is single. The woman who knows all. She stays. She is at home. She is an expert or has expertise. She is spiritual. She is an expert on spiritual topics. The illustration has her holding a wisdom book, has the pillars that are the foundation of the Kaballah behind her. The head of a coven is a high priestess. Ten of Wands: Too much. The whole thing all at once in one load. Slow difficult going. Long hard haul. You can see the man has all those boards weighing him down, and is making slow forward progress. He will make it: The card is meant to assume that. Page of Pentacles: He is thinking. He is being himself. This is who he is; this is his image. He is a good (young) guy. He is feeling that … The illustration shows a young man contemplating this thing he is holding, studiously. World: She is the superior woman. She has no association, has nothing to do with, no involvement in … at all. Sort of a higher octave of the Nine of Pentacles. The idea in the illustration is that she is so superior the monsters won’t even look at her. May we all get there.
