This layout is a study of that one Rider Waite Tarot card, in its aspects of spiritual knowledge, receptivity, being stationary, and being feminine/female. To her left is Eight of Wands which is now about communicating her knowledge; to her right is Four of Wands, which is a group of people, a family, people who have something in common, and even nations.

…………………………..     Eight of Wands is communication. It just is. It’s one of the few Rider Waite Tarot meanings in Tarot Verbatim™ that doesn’t have a direct correlation to the illustration. You could say the boards in the air look like lines on a paper, which suggests writing, and that that expands to oral communication. I don’t see it, myself. Nevertheless, that’s what Eight of Wands, in hundreds of field trials, proves to mean. Go figure.

…………………………..    High Priestess is the feminine or female principle of receptivity, esoterically speaking, because it is a 2. A woman is seated (passivity). This card is based on the Kaballah; its symbols are all over it: the ‘B’ and ‘J’ pillars (severity versus mercy), the pomegranate tree, and maybe that sliver of a moon at her feet? – I dunno. With ‘receptivity’ and femininity as its foundation, High Priestess comes to mean woman or girl, being passive, being sedentary, staying home, waiting, knowing all but not being associated with acting upon the knowledge (book learning, in other words), being mental and/or spiritual – hence, the mental plane and/or the spiritual plane, expertise or being an expert, being quiet, a secret, knowing secret(s), being cloistered or housebound or a homebody.

…………………………..    Four of Wands is the human herd and all its parts. The illustration is a society wedding. Politics, Four of Wands suggests, begins with mama and daddy as the couple, goes to the family, the neighborhood, the community, the county, state, nation, then to international associations (which would be race and culture, etc.). It means marriage of course, and union, and power structure, and power people, and the Establishment. It is the home or house, and it is a public building like a court house or whatever.

………..…………..    Eight of Wands and High Priestess   Eight of Wands and High Priestess is telling about spiritual things, an expert speaking, our higher selves speaking, spiritual writings, telling esoteric secrets. Since High Priestess is a woman in addition to being spiritual and/or esoteric, these two cards also mean girl talk, that women know secrets (woman’s intuition), and that women talk in a code the rest of us don’t understand. High Priestess stays in one place, usually her home, and Four of Wands also means home. Eight of Wands and High Priestess is also being receptive (High Priestess) to what is said (Eight of Wands). High Priestess knows, and Eight of Wands means ‘everything,’ so there ya go. Eight of Wands means all, increasingly or more and more, so we have sentences with ‘all the women’ and ‘more and more women live alone.’

………..…………..     Eight of Wands and Four of Wands Eight of Wands and Four of Wands both can mean ‘everyone.’ That word arises from the ‘each and every’ meaning of Eight of Wands, and is the central meaning of Four of Wands.

..   With Eight of Wands meaning talk, tell, communicate, etc. these two say ‘Tell everyone’ and ‘can talk to everyone’ and ‘everyone is talking about.’

..   With Four of Wands being a stable life, Eight of Wands’ ‘more and more’ meaning makes ‘a more stable life.’

..   Four of Wands is family, family members, and members of any group. With the ‘more and more’ of Eight of Wands, you have more and more members, or all the people who have something in common.

………………………   High Priestess and Four of Wands High Priestess and Four of Wands combines the family or group with ‘spiritual.’ So spiritual people are all family. They also say ‘the women of the family.’

..    High Priestess is a woman, and Four of Wands is a class of people, so you speak of women as a group … a clan, one of the sentences says. It also says ‘married women’ since Four of Wands means ‘married,’ but we didn’t go there.

..    Since High Priestess stays home, and Four of Wands is home, ‘women who stay home,’ or women who live alone in their own homes.

..    High Priestess knows all, including all the secrets, and Four of Wands is a Company, which is where we get secretaries knowing the secrets of the Company.

We almost see women as a ‘Fifth Column’ in this layout, because we associate the passive and receptive female posture with secret intuition, and we discuss not telling that intuition to the public, but only communicating with like-minded individuals. Eight of Wands……… Eight of Wands shows airborne limbs one above another headed earthward. Its main meanings are quickly and written or oral communication, referring not only to the acts of communicating but also to the item – to the document, to what was said, to being quoted, and so on. Eight of Wands also means increasingly, more and more, one after the other, one thing at a time, and any similar phrase – there are many. It also means ‘things’ and pluralizes nearby cards. It means communication-related words like news and notices, letters in the mail, texting, etc. A list of things, too. Some of these meanings don’t relate to its illustration.

High Priestess………….   High Priestess is knowing and not doing – knowing all and not being active at all, so she is presented as seated, with a book in her lap. The book is the Tarot, and she represents the deck. As a ‘2,’ this card represents the feminine principle, which means being passive and receptive on that plane or in that circumstance. Since High Priestess represents the mental and/or spiritual planes, she is active there and passive in the physical world or plane. (Magician, as the ‘1,’ is the masculine principle, which means being active on a given plane or circumstance, and not receptive, taking initiative, starting something, making something happen. He is active in the physical world or plane, and receptive on the mental or spiritual. These are meant as theoretical esoteric concepts, not as stereotypes of people, that women are smart and men act without thinking.)

So High Priestess represents things mental and spiritual, which includes any body of knowledge, even data banks. It represents not just knowing but expertise and being the expert. She is sedentary, passive and female which makes for meanings like: secretary, woman who waits, the other woman, the woman who knows, feminine intuition, knowing secrets and keeping them, secret or classified, not taking initiative (not calling, for instance), being quiet, staying home, staying in one place, living alone, waiting, being housebound, secretive, unavailable, incognito, or even cloistered. In spreads, she often is the quiet woman. She can be the Christian woman or the religious woman because of the cross necklace, and she is also associated with Kabbalah because its symbols are all over this card.

Four of Wands…………. Four of Wands shows a society wedding gathering, probably an outdoor feast, so it associates the couple with the community. Four of Wands starts with the couple and extends to international levels of human associations. You find it being a family, neighborhood, company or organization, city, county, state, nation, international group, etc. It also is house or home, or any building including public buildings like court houses. Sometimes it refers to home life, and often it refers to a stable marriage, an on-paper official marriage. It is one of the positive marriage cards in Tarot Verbatim™.
