Judgment – Judgment’s picture and story unites several concepts. Judgment Day, and people are alive at the blast of the angel’s horn who were dead. They are surprised and have a whole new perspective because: Has their story ever changed! They are in a new phase of life.

Judgment belongs to the speak/tell/say Tarot Verbatim™ tribe. Today Judgment means ‘message’ and ‘quote.’ The horn that makes the big announcement is the part of the picture that puts Judgment into the speak/tell/say clan. The horn also gives Judgment its ‘loud’ meanings, its ‘alarm’ meanings, and its ‘public’ or ‘publicity’ meanings

The ex-dead people experience a change, so Judgment often translates ‘change’ or ‘a new.’ A new level, a new phase, a new perspective or vista. The ex-dead people also give us all the Judgment meanings about the afterlife. They are also returning to a former state, to ‘go back to’ and ‘return to’ belong to Judgment as well.

Judgment is one of several cards that translates ‘again’ because, of course, the people standing in the coffins are alive again.

Judgment also is about awakening, including awakening spiritually. High Priestess is also about things spiritual. These three cards could talk about one new level of spiritual awakening after the other until a person were an adept, because High Priestess, of course, is an adept.
Eight of Wands – This Eight of Wands is a catchall card with a lot of fairly miscellaneous meanings, but it does tend to come in handy. One stick above another flying through the air, a barrage. It is associated with movement, communication (talk and writing), a list or a number of items, increasing, and continuous/continuing. Like I said: miscellaneous.

Movement. Today Eight of Wands says ‘launched from’ and ‘get the message out.’

Communication. Any form of communication at all. Today it says ‘talk’ frequently, and also says ‘writings’ and ‘documents.’

A list, a number of items, and increasing. Visualize the one-board-above-another and one more, and over and over again. That’s easy, right? Eight of Wands creates plurals on its neighboring cards, and also adds suffixes (endings of words) that indicate increasing. Here are some of those words today: more and more, so many times, one after another, repeated, many things, louder, quieter [with Eight of Wands contributing the ‘-er’). In a more subtle way, Eight of Wands also indicates something is developing or becoming – which also is a continuing process.

And speaking of continuing processes, Eight of Wands expresses this continuity, often, with the word ‘keep’ or ‘keeping,’ meaning keep at it, or keeping at it. It will say the same thing without the ‘keep’ and just add the ‘-ing’ to the other card’s meaning. The ‘-ing’ form of a verb is called gerund.
High Priestess – The ‘feminine principle’ concept is what holds High Priestess’ dictionary together. It is an esoteric principle. Its number is 2. Briefly, the feminine principle is passive and receptive on the physical plane, and active on the mental and spiritual planes. Magician, the male principle, is the opposite. Its number is 1. So, High Priestess knows all and does nothing: You can think of it that way. ‘She Who Knows.’ (And along the same line, you can catalog Magician as Magician acts and doesn’t think.) ‘He does.’

High Priestess is an esoteric (occult) card: The B and the J pillars stand for mercy and severity, and are the two pillars of the Kabbalah (a Jewish occult system). These pillars appear in the Holy of Holies (next to the Ark of the Covenant) in the Hebrew scriptures and in the Bible. The crown High Priestess wears (Egyptian), the book in her lap, the moon at her feet, and the pomegranates are all symbols.

Naturally, High Priestess translates female words: lady, woman, women, girl, other woman. Naturally, the ‘know’ of High Priestess brings these words and phrases: secret, know, expert, know what, already know, and words that refer to knowledge like data, data bank, archive, book, expert, cognoscenti, and idea. The book, and the fact she is seated (sedentary) bring High Priestess secretary and bookkeeping meanings. The sedentary part extends to High Priestess owning the phrase ‘behind the scenes’ and also ‘back seat driver.’

High Priestess is associated with the spiritual plane (and the mental, of course), and she is a woman who knows all, so naturally this is the card for having psychic knowledge and spiritual abilities.

Several ‘women cards’ in Tarot Verbatim™ (and probably in some other systems) mean living alone, staying put, being private, detached, and not needing anyone. High Priestess is one of them. (Nine of Pentacles and World are others.) Often but not always, these are single women.

………………….…………………… Judgment is the dead reborn, new consciousness, and High Priestess is spiritual life. When you add Ten of Pentacles, that in Tarot Verbatim™ is people in trouble and/or people who are trouble, you have an obvious story of your troubles wising you up to a new and better frame of mind and/or soul.
………………………….. Judgment is a change, a new form (new life, new consciousness, new phase, etc.), a breakthrough. Those are its main meanings, but some more arise from items in the illustration. An example of items in the illustration is the noise the horn makes. That can be a shout, an alarm or alarm clock, a car horn – anything that is a loud noise. The angel can be taken literally too, especially if other cards make an angel theme. The bodies coming to life can mean recovery, returning to a former state, awakening, again, a whole new life, spiritual rebirth or spiritual renewal, and many many words like regeneration and revive or re-do that have the ‘re’ prefix which means ‘again.’ You have a sudden unexpected event that is a surprise too, and all those words belong to Judgment. You also get phrases about ‘popping up’ for obvious reasons. The water represents consciousness and mass consciousness, so you have a new consciousness or new awareness. Add the suddenness to that, and you have sudden enlightenment, like you see in Hanged Man. The horn is an announcement, which brings not only that word but any kind of speaking, and publicity or news. Judgment can be a press release.
Then you have the legal application of the card via its title. It can be a decree, verdict or decision announced by any legal entity. It can also be the serving of papers.
………………………….. High Priestess represents spirituality and the spiritual plane or realm itself, as well as the mental sphere. She means ‘to know’ and to be expert. She also means to not act, to stay in one place, to be passive – and these meanings grow out of the fact that, esoterically, as a 2, she is the feminine principle of being passive on the physical plane and centered or active in the spiritual plane – which Fool is also about. High Priestess is opposite of Magician, who is the 1, and therefore, esoterically speaking, active on the physical plane (earth) and passive or inactive on the mental and spiritual planes. Do these esoteric meanings grow out of stereotypes for men and women – especially back when the esoteric meanings were established? Your call.
High Priestess is the lady (feminine principle, remember?) and often means to stay – to stay in one place, to be sedentary or have that kind of job. The book in her lap turns her into a bookkeeper once in a while – and it can be a fellow keeping the books, but seldom is in my work.
As the one who knows, High Priestess gets associated with secrets, including classified information. In addition, she means ‘to be quiet,’ partly because of the stationary meanings and the ladylike meanings – it just all goes together.
The illustration is clearly from Kabbalah (lots of ways to spell that, none clearly correct), an ancient Jewish system of magic. The pomegranates, the two pillars with the ‘B’ and the ‘J’ which have a Bible verse in the book of Chronicles as source, and probably the moon and some other things, are Kabbalah items.
………………………….. Ten of Pentacles is one of the cards that Tarot Verbatim™ interprets differently from other systems. In Tarot Verbatim™ there are three ‘marriage cards,’ and they all also mean a building or house, and they all also mean a group of people or type of people. (Four of Wands, which pictures a wedding, is one of the positive marriage cards, and Ten of Cups, which shows the two perfect kids, the embracing couple, the rainbow over the good-neighborhood house, is the other.) Of course they all also mean family – in different ways, of course. Ten of Pentacles is – in Tarot Verbatim – a negative family/marriage card. Unless you have used up the other two in your spread, then Ten of Pentacles gets promoted. I think he has decreed another grandchild, and son likes the idea but mama isn’t ready for another kid yet, with this one squalling and pulling on her clothes. Son, her husband, is not looking at her as she earnestly pleads with him about something. He ain’t listening to the woman.
Ten of Pentacles in Tarot Verbatim™ means people who have a problem or people who are a problem. The scene is applied both as ghetto and upper class. Ten of Pentacles can be a mob, a gang, politicians, a clan or relatives. It is trouble with other people.

Judgment and High Priestess Judgment and High Priestess have ‘spiritual life’ in common, and together describe enlightenment and ‘new spiritual life.’ Judgment is the new level of awareness, the breakthrough in consciousness, the new life and the breakthrough dawning of enlightenment about spiritual realities. (Of course this is from the concept of newly awakened dead people, awakened by an angel.) High Priestess represents already knowing those spiritual realities, being expert about spirituality even, knowing the secret. When you put Judgment next to ‘knowing the secret,’ you get ‘telling the secret you know,’ which doesn’t just apply to evangelism or ‘announcement’ about the spiritual side, but – especially with Ten of Pentacles sticking its nose into the business of these two – applies to telling the guilty secrets of ‘what’s going on,’ ‘what they’ve got to hide.’ So now you have a cognoscenti (wised-up person) living in the bad neighborhood, telling the neighbors her spiritual knowledge. The girl bounces back: Judgment is the recovery and means ‘to pop up’; High Priestess is ‘the girl.’ You are at peace (High Priestess); say so (Judgment). The quiet woman in the place (High Priestess), and Judgment makes that ‘the loud place.’ A lady (High Priestess) prompts them to change (Judgment means change and also has prompted the dead bodies to life). It’s these two cards that say ‘She doesn’t tell them’ because High Priestess doesn’t act, and Judgment is telling. Sometimes one Tarot card pulls the other one’s teeth, you know?
