You find a gentleman – that is Mr. King of Cups signature, the gentleman, the good man. Today, King of Cups’ gentlemanly side is brought out by High Priestess, the lady, his gentlemanly counterpart.
You also find the drinking man or addicted man, the weak man, the fellow who whines or is passive-aggressive.
Like many of the court cards, in a given sentence which has already expressed the type of person the card represents, the actual interpretation of the card boils down to a simple pronoun. So today Mr. King of Cups brings us: he, for him, his.
High Priestess
As one of the esoteric (occult) cards, High Priestess straddles categories in her definitions. This card represents the spiritual plane and spiritual knowledge or expertise, and therefore also means knowledge in general and also a woman who knows whatever. This is the card for the expert.
Due to its being Number Two in Major Arcanae, High Priestess also represents (esoterically speaking) the feminine principle of receptivity: knowing and not acting. (Long story.) So that makes High Priestess translate ‘lady’ and ‘woman’ and related terms like ‘ladylike’ and ‘his woman.’ She also is the passive woman because of the ‘not acting.’
High Priestess also represents staying, staying home, staying in one place, and being unavailable (like World, another highly spiritual and esoteric card).
It doesn’t make sense at first that High Priestess is ‘the other woman.’ I think this meaning occurs as a blend of its other characteristics: the passive stance, the staying at home.
Ace of Pentacles
Let me interpret this curious drawing for you. See the gold on the straight path, with the gold in the hand in the sky above it? – it equates being on the straight and narrow with having money and success. It equates being right with being rich. Think ‘prosperity Christianity’ which does exactly that. So keep in mind that, most of the time, Ace of Pentacles will be about having money and/or being right.
Since Ace of Pentacles depicts God Consciousness flowing from a person to other people, Ace of Pentacles is the card for God – and Emperor, as the highest authority card, also represents God the Father.
So Ace of Pentacles means unconditional love too. All good things: healing, health, safety, benefit. The flow brings these words: cooperation, easy, smoothly.
Besides being ‘right’ or ‘on the right path,’ one of Ace of Pentacles’ favorite words is ‘perfect.’ It also means ‘best’ and even ‘better,’ depending upon context.
Ace of Pentacles is one of the money cards too. So it translates ‘financial’ and ‘pay’ (and even ‘paycheck’ once in a while), and it also translates ‘give’ along with ‘pay.’
Watch for this Ace of Pentacles card to also be about a ring, since it looks kind of like one.

King of Cups is associated with unassertive men too (even weak men, at the end of its spectrum). So today we have: the soft sell, a computer nerd, a guy with a desk job, and a guy who’s bored.
High Priestess
You see the crown of combined Upper and Lower Egypt, the pillars of mercy and severity from the inner sanctum of the Jewish temple, which also permeates the Kabbalah. You see the Tora in her lap, and the moon at her feet. The pomegranate tree behind her also has some symbolic meaning.
She is Woman – the Feminine Principle from esoteric perspectives. Strongly connected to activity on the plane above, and passive on the plane below, which makes her a strongly spiritual card, and one that means to not act, to be unresponsive, (the lady), to be receptive. She knows all (from the mental plane) and does not tell (not active in ‘the real world). The ‘knowing all’ maker her the expert, the advise, and even data (the data bank) itself. To know all and not tell is to keep secrets, of course.
‘Occult’ means hidden, giving High Priestess these words and phrases: secret, hidden, classified, psychic, under the table.
The book in her lap brings her bookkeeping meanings, including ‘auditor.’
High Priestess is also strongly associated with being alone, private, and staying put. ‘Stay’ belongs to High Priestess.
Ace of Pentacles
A hand holds the gold over the golden straight and narrow path that begins with white lilies and ends with the rose trellis associated with victory. Ace of Pentacles stands for the proposition that good things happen to the right people, the good people on the path. Good things like money, income, success.
We use Ace of Pentacles basic meanings today, the common ones. Half of our sentences or more are about finances, with words like these: fund, financial life, makes good money, about his income, is good money, part with cash, sells, budget, pays, paid, pays off, makes a lot of money, spending good money, the financial industry, money in bonds, accepting money.

Another easy Rider Waite Tarot card in Tarot Verbatim™: Labeled ‘Justice,’ got scales in one hand and raises a sword flat at us: Law enforcement! The scales add ‘balance.’ So we have the whole legal industry represented. But not today.
Justice is ‘supposed to.’ Justice is should, ought to, entitled, deserve, right (in every sense of the word, including ‘correct’). Here are more of its very common words and phrases: straight and straighten out; sane and sensible; sober; okay, truth, fact. Justice is ‘behave,’ as Hierophant is.
Next to either of two positive marriage cards (Four of Wands and Ten of Cups), Justice makes them say ‘legal marriage.’

Mr. Page of Pentacles is one of the easiest of all Tarot cards in the Tarot Verbatim™ system. First, you take singular pronouns – the male ones – and ‘you.’ Next, you add any word about being, thinking, feeling, opinion, observation or impression. So you have ‘I am,’ ‘he is thinking,’ ‘how Mr. X (that you asked about) feels about (you name it). You add in the meaning of the card Page of Pentacles aspects, and ya got it 9 out of 10 times. (Just look at today’s Page of Pentacles words.)
King of Cups
King of Cups has a spectrum. At one end he is the affectionate sweetheart of a guy, the mild-mannered paper pusher type, the feeling, kind, emotional, man – the sweetheart of a guy. This is maybe his most common stereotype. At the other end of the spectrum, he is the weak man, the drinker, the passive-aggressive type, or tired and resigned Walter Mitty type – whiny, even.
King of Cups means government generally, or bureaucrat, as well. So Mr. King of Cups can have a paper-type bureaucratic or corporate job, be diplomatic.
But King of Cups also covers the weak man, the drinking man, the emotionally strained quietly neurotic fellow – even the passive-aggressive sniper.

Page of Pentacles is similar to Page of Wands. I call them ‘identity cards.’ Page of Pentacles translates pronouns (especially ‘I’ and ‘he,’ ‘myself’ and ‘himself’ but also ‘you.’ Take these pronouns and add the basic words for being, for identify, and Page of Pentacles says: I am; he is; you are.) Its most frequent translates have to do with thinking, feeling, looking at, opinion, impression; perspective. Page of Pentacles sets the sentence up to be about traits. So very commonly Page of Pentacles says: I am thinking; he feels; his opinion or impression is – etc. This is what you most often find Page of Pentacles doing in your work. Like he is doing here today.
And King of Cups is a man with some readily identifiable traits. King of Cups doesn’t have a lot of meanings. He’s one of the good-guy cards, with a fairly wide spectrum of types of people. First, King of Cups is polite; is the gentleman; is diplomatic – is even meek or unassuming. He is ‘the quiet type,’ and is known for being calm, for having a heart.
King of Cups is ‘the emotionally available man’ in romance questions; is ‘your honey,’ a sweetheart.
Next, King of Cups is the bureaucrat, the ‘suit’ associated with corporate America; the fellow with a desk job (which includes stockbrokers, men with government jobs like regulators and politicians and middlemen, bankers. It even includes being a government or agency of one.
And then, he’s your drinking man, even an alcoholic. He doesn’t personally stand, usually, for an irresponsible drunk, though: Gotta have other cards to drag him that way.
King of Cups’ shadow side is the passive, weak, ineffectual, dull, lackluster, mealymouthed wimpy dude. Think Robert Gibbs. Or the emotionally strained neurotic like the passive bloodsucking couch potato. He can be passive-aggressive too, but you need a card like Seven of Swords or Six of Wands for the ‘aggressive’ side. Yeah, King of Cups is your man for the whiner too. He is like that complaining whiner Queen of Swords at times.
So how does Justice fit with these two guy-cards? Well, that’s easy with Page of Pentacles, who thinks about, and who is. He is straight, sane, sober, realistic,committed, correct and accurate, and entitled: Justice’s vocabulary. With King of Cups, the king’s good side is emphasized, eliminating the ‘weakling/loser’ traits he could represent in different Tarot company. AND there’s an interesting contrast between the ‘sober’ of Justice (‘sober as a judge,’ you know) and the drinking-man or drunk of King of Cups.

Tarot Verbatim’s™ Two of Cups is not just any Tarot system’s Two of Cups. That funky gizmo suspended above the couple ‘pledging their troth’ (getting engaged back when that was a binding obligation) is an ancient spiritual spell, for good or ill (usually ill). Moses used it when snakes were biting his followers in the desert.
So the caduceus is ‘undue influence,’ is interfering, undeclared, in people’s business, particularly in their love lives. It can simply be falling in love, can be a hot sexual love affair, seduction, or even just a sexual attraction. It can represent kinky or perverted sex, or someone’s ‘sex life.’

Star
A shapely woman (one of Star’s phrases) is performing a ritual bath. She sings as she pours some potion into the pond. This is a happy performance, and the feeling of feeling good all over is like singing in the shower. Star means to confess love, to be crazy about or wildly enthusiastic about, and to say so.
Star is definitely one of the say/speak/tell theme cards. Star is giving a presentation, a sales pitch, explaining or instructing, a public announcement or press release. Star is news – good news unless otherwise indicated. Talking a lot (even babbling) belongs to star.
King of Cups
You see a man whose seat is surrounded by water, and whose throne is shapeless and without any authority symbols on it. A ship being tossed by waves, in the background, in Rider Waite Tarot, says ‘instability.’ Moreover, he wears a necklace with a large fish on it. King of Cups has two main applications to his meanings: One is the emotional warmhearted good guy, the patient man, the fellow you would expect to have a desk job, her sweetheart. Two is the ineffectual weak fellow, often the heavy drinker. He also is government – any type, any agency, any level, good or bad or neutral.

Not letting myself loose to have a fit feels just like not letting myself think step by step all the way to a breakthrough. So the enlightenment can come just like a tantrum. Provoking a confrontation to validate a belief you’re about to change is a similar process to annoying your marital partner into a divorce. Sometimes clinging to something right up to the very last instant you give it up … is the way you give it up.

Hermit
Hermit’s story and this picture make more meanings than you would expect. The old man, who is a doctor, is a monk whose job it is to calmly go out on the cold mountain road as a pedestrian with a light, find, and help travelers. Here is your ‘wise old man’ card: Hermit knows, understands, is sober and sensible as well as being an adviser or counselor.
Here also is your card for any kind of look-see, search, investigation, inquiry, observation, surveillance, or inquest. Watch for Hermit to mean ‘the fact’ or factual. (‘Just the facts, ma’am.)
As a monk, he is celibate (read monogamous these days) and virtuous. So Hermit is sincere, helpful, is a friend, is spiritual – ‘on the Path.’
Four of Pentacles
Most Tarot systems title Four of Pentacles ‘The Miser.’ He can be broke or short of money, or he can be a cheapskate, or he can simply be thrifty, or saving money, or hiding money, or having a stash or rainy day fund. He is pictured holding onto his cash for dear life, hugging it to himself. But this shortage can be a shortage of anything, or a low level of anything, or ‘not enough’ as in ‘not enough gas to get there.’ Four of Pentacles translates phrases like ‘not much’ or ‘not very’ or even ‘less than.’
He sits outside of the town with his back to it, and is associated with secrets and with being excluded, isolated (or even blackballed). He has something to hide. This extends to being inferior, being an outsider – or of course feeling inferior. He is self-contained, and Four of Pentacles sometimes with translate ‘container,’ especially if what is hidden is in a container. (Lost object questions.) A container can be a drawer, a safe, etc.
Secrets. He has a secret. He isn’t in on a secret. He is keeping something from, or something is being kept from him. He isn’t letting himself. He isn’t admitting. He is not about to, or he is repressed. Four of Pentacles is even ‘shut down,’ numb, shut out. This ‘shut’ can apply to objects as well as persons, of course.
Secrets. He has a secret. He isn’t in on a secret. He is keeping something from, or something is being kept from him. He isn’t letting himself. He isn’t admitting. He is not about to, or he is repressed. Four of Pentacles is even ‘shut down,’ numb, shut out. This ‘shut’ can apply to objects as well as persons, of course.
Deeply held beliefs are the province of Four of Pentacles too. Four of Pentacles repression, and the fact he is hugging himself, extends to ‘deep down inside’ feelings, and deepest beliefs: privacy too. It can even translate ‘deep.’ This ‘deep down inside’ category extends to ‘internal.’ Internal organs. Internal affairs. Internal life.
Tower
This is the Tower of Babel. A building is struck suddenly and destroyed – a disaster that all the cultures of that time duly reported. Tower is associated with the word ‘break’ in its various phrases and forms: breakthrough, breakup, break open, broke (including financially) and more. It’s also associated with the verb ‘fall’ in its various forms – even ‘fall off the wagon’ today with Hermit as sobriety.
Naturally, Tower is your card for wrecks, damage, destruction, disasters, emergencies, anything drastic or shocking, explosions, and hitting or striking. It also appears for ranting, having a fit, confrontation, rejecting, conflict and conflicted, drama. It is about getting arrested or getting shot, or shooting a weapon of any kind.
And aren’t I glad that this drastic card can simply translate – and very often does translate – ‘suddenly’ or ‘sudden.’

Tarot Readings for You for July 4, 2018 Wednesday© Email
Here’s a special Wednesday treat for all of you who do your own Tarot using this site as a library of combined meanings of Tarot cards. The treat is a peek into why your question should include pertinent factors that the cards are not precise about. The big factors are dates, person(s), and time.
Ask ‘who did it’ and you get a description you may not recognize. Ask the motive of who did it, and you will get a description of the scene that usually tells you whodunit. Don’t ask ‘when’ about anything because Tarot is mass-consciousness based ‘out there’ or ‘in there’ somewhere, and isn’t earthbound with clocks and calendars. Instead, you ask ‘Will X happen in Y time?’ as I call it. Not ‘When will he call?’ but ‘Will he call this week?’ That converts the question into a yes-or-no one which Tarot will answer well (or pretty well) giving details that are applicable (cogent).
First thing here is the question I did answer for our client ‘as modified.’ She wants to know ‘what a relationship is going to become,’ not specifying the relationship. Tarot Verbatim is fine (is excellent, really) with that. With no background, however, once the cards talk about marriage and leaving or switching, you as the reader don’t know who’s who. The answer is to be from Client’s perspective, but you don’t know which position Client occupies unless that is in the ‘history.’ And there’s no history required in these cold Email readings. This is why the instructions on the Email Reading tab suggest saying whether love interest is married
I wrote Client, and when she did not respond right away, simply modified the question to include just Dude and her. That is the first set of spreads you see.
Then Client answers with history and perspectives. Tarot did rise to the occasion in its answer.
THEN I include the original set of cards which are confusing to apply if you don’t know the history. Now, you can put these together and see how to handle this – how to phrase a general relationship question which gives no identity of parties or background.

Thank you for this.
He is not married, but recently divorced with all sorts of drama with manipulative ex and 2 very manipulative/manipulated kids.
In this sense, even though we are very much in a committed relationship (it’s been almost 2 years, and we met well after his separation but during the final months of divorce litigation), I guess I am the other woman because of all the claws and fangs still gripping him and pulling him in directions his heart does not agree with?
I should add that he has said many time that he will “never get married again”… perhaps he is conflicted about that belief and the prospect of me walking away from him and the drama that he may have to continue to deal with for the next several years…

King of Cups
All the other adult male Tarot cards are macho or are all wrought up about something. The male cards that aren’t macho, the rest of them, are young. So King of Cups has to stand for all the types of grown up men who are not macho. This is why you find such a spectrum for him.
On the one hand, King of Cups is the good man, the quiet man, the gentleman, the good-natured guy, the emotionally available affectionate man (‘your honey’). The man with a desk job, the diplomatic patient type, the bureaucrat. There is always something bland about a Mr. King of Cups, and this card can indicate a man is in the background of whatever your Tarot story is about.
On the other hand, King of Cups owns the neurotic traits. He can represent the emotionally unstable man, the drinking man, the moody guy, the weak man (Walter Mitty type), the lackluster dude, the petty mean government worker type.
As if that weren’t enough, King of Cups is ‘the government’ or ‘the agency.’
Lovers
What a complex illustration. Naturally, it has some miscellaneous meanings that are not apparent beneath its dominant meanings of anything to do with love and lovers and loving, connecting, contacting, being together, being a couple. Lovers also simply means being side-by-side, standing next to another person: propinquity.
Several miscellaneous meanings arise from the angel overseeing the couple: protection, surveillance, regulating, and even insurance. You may not believe insurance right away, but watch for it. ‘Higher ups’ is a phrase the overseeing angel delivers too. It can come off as the guardian angel despite its unfriendly stance in the illustration.
And speaking of miscellaneous meanings, the volcano can get involved once in a while too – not today though.
Three of Pentacles
Relationship is Three of Pentacles’ favorite word, its default translate actually. People get together and participate in getting something done that is mutually rewarding: it’s a fair deal. They transact business, or they are in a social relationship, or they are in a love relationship … whatever. Whatever it is, they are in it together.
The illustration shows a meeting of the man who built that part of the cathedral and his clients. He demonstrates that he did his job as the blueprint and the contract specify. They hold the blueprint as he explains. These parties are settling up: The architect gets his pay for his work as a result of the agreement they all come to at the meeting (The final draw of the contract is released by the clients).
Three of Pentacles is very much the business card: selling, buying, dealing and deals, agreements, doing business, transaction, profitability, settling up, pays off, contract, and meeting. Budget meeting especially.
And Three of Pentacles is very much the social get-together card. It is about meeting someone or meeting people. It is between friends. It is getting together and bringing people together. Often it represents a meeting of three people: Watch for that.
A main application in Three of Pentacles is ‘doing your part fair and square.’ Put any pronoun, singular or plural, there. Living up to the agreement is a focus of this Three of Pentacles card.

Lovers and Three of Pentacles say ‘love relationship’ loud and clear. Both these cards are about relating (to another person, Lovers; to people, Three of Pentacles). Both are about getting together and being together. Lovers emphasizes the connection and the contact, and Three of Pentacles emphasizes the action, what they are doing together. Since Lovers is two people together and Three of Pentacles can often be three people together, the combination of these two cards can be about a meeting between two people and three people, or a meeting between two groups of people.
King of Cups is the affectionate guy, ‘your honey,’ the good man. So all our three cards are about love relationship. The main stories are about getting together with a lover, meeting Lover or meeting people with Lover.
Three of Pentacles is strongly a business Tarot card, and Lovers is partners or partnership. Three of Pentacles is a contract, a meeting, a buy-sell transaction, even a legal proceeding – and these draw out Lovers’ odd meanings of protection, surveillance, regulating, and even insurance.
