You see ‘law enforcement’ in a card labeled ‘Justice’ which displays an upraised unsheathed double-edged sword. Today we are not using the law meanings of this Tarot card.
The smell of marriage clings to Justice but it doesn’t literally mean ‘marriage’ unless that is strongly implied – as we have here with the cheating married lover. Justice has the sizzle of marriage because it makes either marriage card say ‘legal marriage,’ – a big distinction. But it does mean commitment all by itself.

Two of Pentacles
The juggler has a symbol of continual repetition (from mathematics) connecting his plates, and he is dressed in a getup with a dunce cap. The silly-looking costume brings words like goofy, frivolous, foolish, unstable, and eccentric.
Two of Pentacles goes on forever over and over again, keeping up the same silly routine. The illustration supports any kind of movement: up and down, back and forth, ’round and ’round, tossed this way and that on those waves. It could go either way. To go back to. Return. Whirling. Whether or not. This way or that. Anything can happen. It’s random – an iffy situation.
Timing is very much part of juggling, so Two of Pentacles refers to sometimes and somehow and every time – words like those. Juggling is also continual, so Two of Pentacles means ‘ongoing’ and ‘in the process of.’ Next to a legal card (like Justice here), it can mean legal proceedings.
Keep in mind that this Two of Pentacles card can mean ‘not always’ as well as always because it means both ‘continuing’ and ‘it could go either way.’ (Context is king.)

Lovers
Love, connection, contact or being in touch, being together or on the same side, or being a couple – and insurance: Those are the meanings of Lovers that we use in today’s spread. Lovers has other meanings, which you can find in detail by typing ‘Lovers TarotVerbatim’ into Google. The meanings for today are obvious: You see a couple, they are together side by side. ‘Insurance’ is an off-label meanings arising from the surveillance of the funky angel: He’s got them covered, is protecting them – and that’s insurance coverage and protection. (I don’t make the meanings up; they happen and are taken note of.)
You could say Lovers is hamstrung today: It has ‘refusing’ or ‘resisting’ to modify itself, on the one hand, and ‘keeping at it’ or ‘keep doing’ on the other.
Four of Cups
He sits there refusing delivery for the fourth time. His arms are crossed; his legs are crossed; his head is averted, looking away. It’s a ‘no.’ So you know Four of Cups is one of the negator cards, is a member of that tribe – but it’s not just a simple negator like Death is; it picks up the context another card makes (or other cards make) and negates that. For example, today we have these off-label uses: not going to ever; will not let myself; in spite of everything; is not provided; doesn’t get through to me; is not his thing; refusing to consider. ‘Holding out for’ and ‘resisting’ are fairly common uses without the contribution of other cards’ meanings.

Eight of Pentacles
Here’s a workingman hammering away, producing pentacles he hangs up on pegs, one after the other, all the same. He does the same thing over and over; it’s his employment. Carpenters work quickly, you know. All these words associated with the illustration belong to Eight of Pentacles. He often brings ‘keep’ to the gerund form (the ‘ing form), as in ‘keep doing,’ or brings ‘keeping’ (meaning continuing) to another card’s word, as in ‘keeping in touch,’ with Lovers being the ‘in touch.’
Eight of Pentacles is the lead card for anything work-related: job, employment, co-worker, worker, workingman, do the work, etc. Eight of Pentacles also owns (along with Magician) ‘doing.’ Eight of Pentacles is the hands-on doing of anything – the ‘line’ instead of ‘staff.’
And Eight of Pentacles also owns any form of ‘one after another,’ with phrases like ‘even one more time.’

Now Without The Pictures |
Four of Cups won’t, and Eight of Pentacles keeps it up. The remaining card, Lovers, is connecting, contacting, being in touch or being together. So we have some contradictory meanings here. (In real Tarot life, the question or subject, and maybe some known information, will indicate which is the correct choice. We don’t have that here, so we report on the contradictions baldly.)
Of course, when you combine the ‘won’t’ with the ‘over and over,’ you easily get ‘never again.’ Four of Cups is ‘never,’ and I can’t tell you how often Eight of Pentacles translates ‘again.’ These two cards would express similar thoughts with phrases like ‘not every time,’ ‘isn’t continuous,’ and ‘not going steady’ or ‘doesn’t keep at it.’
It’s easy to see ‘don’t love’ in Lovers and Four of Cups, isn’t it? But you’re got Eight of Pentacles working on it – so you may be saying things like ‘Love relationship isn’t work’ and ‘It’s not work when you love what you are doing.’
Lovers and Four of Cups are not connecting (Four of Cups, not; Lovers, connecting), and here’s Eight of Pentacles who keeps trying, so ‘Keeps trying but doesn’t really connect.’
You can also easily see Four of Cups and Eight of Pentacles as not working (Four of Cups, not; Eight of Pentacles, working). That could also express as ‘Don’t have a job’ and even ‘It’s not my job.’
But you can’t count on Four of Cups being a negator all the time. It also ‘holds out for.’ Today that’s ‘Hold out for a job you love.’..

Knight of Swords
n armed man speeds, weapon at the ready, his horse giving it all he’s got. Change in a hurry is afoot, and this action is intense and brief – acute, not chronic. This much is consistently true of Knight of Swords.
It’s the direction of the action that is in question. Knight of Swords can be: running from or exiting or leaving, can be about ‘No more!’ and ‘I’m outta here’ and ‘on the run’ or ‘on the fly.’ Knight of Swords can be: going back or going back in a hurry. Knight of Swords can be pursuing, as the picture shows. Knight of Swords can be changing direction, and can be about a change taking place – ‘life-changing,’ for instance. And Knight of Swords can be about the fast and brief part: in a hurry, ever-so-brief, so it didn’t last, back in a hurry, strikes.
Knight of Swords joins the ‘again’ clan and the ‘another’ clan too, because of the ‘going back to’ and the ‘return’ meanings.
Once in a while, when the rest of your reading’s sentence echoes and establishes the ‘outta here’ meaning of Knight of Swords, the literal words for him will be just a negative. Here’s the first example of that rare occasion: “Are not connecting up with some little lover who has a use for you.” Lover is the connecting up and the ‘some little lover.’ Six of Wands is ‘who has a use for you.’ Knight of Swords means to avoid or run from, but the simple ‘are not’ is enough to say that. Likewise in the second example, “Not playing games with someone you do love,” Six of Wands is playing games, Lovers is someone you do love, and Knight of Swords simply translating ‘not’ there instead of ‘avoiding’ or heading away from’ is more to the point.
Six of Wands
What holds Six of Wands’ many phrases together is: Things are not as they seem, are misleading; there’s some self-interest, game, agenda, pretense, or even double-crossing deceit to the scene. Six of Wands is one of the cards about a mooch or person who is using others for his or her benefit. Six of Wands is also being under the influence of an assumption that leads to a mistake.
The picture is about the betrayal of an English king, by the next in line to the throne (There’s your self-interest, your agenda, your deceit.) to the Arabs he was fighting. He was led to chase retreating combatants, and it was a trap to have him captured in battle and kept captive by the Arabs for life. So things were definitely not as they seemed, and the environment was definitely not to be trusted.
Lovers
Adam and Eve here, with their respective Garden of Eden trees (you see them again in Devil), and their supervising angel, a volcano in the distance between them. They are a couple and the title of this card is Lovers, so this is the card for all kinds of love affairs, and for intervention or interference from ‘higher ups.’
Besides all the love stuff, Lovers applies as connection and protection (even insurance protection, in real Tarot practice). It especially applies as partnership types of connection, whether in business or social life. The phrases ‘partner up’ and therefore ‘pair up’ belong to Lovers.
The connection meaning, plus the presence of the angel, brings ‘connection to God’ to Lovers. (And that can be modified by surrounding cards.)

Moments of change are pictured here. Knight of Swords means both to go ahead with something and to get out of something, usually quickly. Lovers is connecting with it, even partnering with it. Six of Wands is both going along with it and mistrusting it. So we picture that moment of awakening to a suspicion that all is not what it seems.
When you have a negative card in one of these three-card spreads of ours which has no designation for the position each card occupies, that negative card can attach to either of the other two. So Knight of Swords can be avoiding playing games, avoiding pretenses, or Knight of Swords can be running from love or avoiding connecting. (Some spreads, such as Celtic Cross, have meanings for the positions the cards occupy.)
Six of Wands is influence, usually subversive influence or influences we don’t consciously acknowledge. We know about the love bug, about Mother Nature’s part in our love life, but we tend to brush that aside. We really ignore the part our body chemistry plays in our decision-making and our feelings. We don’t want to admit that we formed a dislike or a like to something back there due to a mood an allergy got us into, so that dislike or like persists because somehow we have to believe that feeling back then was based on fact. This kind of illusion is basic Six of Wands territory.

Lovers
Love, connection, contact or being in touch, being together or on the same side, or being a couple – and insurance: Those are the meanings of Lovers that we use in today’s spread. Lovers has other meanings, which you can find in detail by typing ‘Lovers TarotVerbatim’ into Google. The meanings for today are obvious: You see a couple, they are together side by side. ‘Insurance’ is an off-label meanings arising from the surveillance of the funky angel: He’s got them covered, is protecting them – and that’s insurance coverage and protection. (I don’t make the meanings up; they happen and are taken note of.) You could say Lovers is hamstrung today: It has ‘refusing’ or ‘resisting’ to modify itself, on the one hand, and ‘keeping at it’ or ‘keep doing’ on the other.
Four of Cups
He sits there refusing delivery for the fourth time. His arms are crossed; his legs are crossed; his head is averted, looking away. It’s a ‘no.’ So you know Four of Cups is one of the negator cards, is a member of that tribe – but it’s not just a simple negator like Death is; it picks up the context another card makes (or other cards make) and negates that. For example, today we have these off-label uses: not going to ever; will not let myself; in spite of everything; is not provided; doesn’t get through to me; is not his thing; refusing to consider. ‘Holding out for’ and ‘resisting’ are fairly common uses without the contribution of other cards’ meanings.
Eight of Pentacles
Here’s a workingman hammering away, producing pentacles he hangs up on pegs, one after the other, all the same. He does the same thing over and over; it’s his employment. Carpenters work quickly, you know. All these words associated with the illustration belong to Eight of Pentacles. He often brings ‘keep’ to the gerund form (the ‘ing form), as in ‘keep doing,’ or brings ‘keeping’ (meaning continuing) to another card’s word, as in ‘keeping in touch,’ with Lovers being the ‘in touch.’ Eight of Pentacles is the lead card for anything work-related: job, employment, co-worker, worker, workingman, do the work, etc. Eight of Pentacles also owns (along with Magician) ‘doing.’ Eight of Pentacles is the hands-on doing of anything – the ‘line’ instead of ‘staff.’ And Eight of Pentacles also owns any form of ‘one after another,’ with phrases like ‘even one more time.’

Four of Cups won’t, and Eight of Pentacles keeps it up. The remaining card, Lovers, is connecting, contacting, being in touch or being together. So we have some contradictory meanings here. (In real Tarot life, the question or subject, and maybe some known information, will indicate which is the correct choice. We don’t have that here, so we report on the contradictions baldly.)
Of course, when you combine the ‘won’t’ with the ‘over and over,’ you easily get ‘never again.’ Four of Cups is ‘never,’ and I can’t tell you how often Eight of Pentacles translates ‘again.’ These two cards would express similar thoughts with phrases like ‘not every time,’ ‘isn’t continuous,’ and ‘not going steady’ or ‘doesn’t keep at it.’ It’s easy to see ‘don’t love’ in Lovers and Four of Cups, isn’t it?
But you’re got Eight of Pentacles working on it – so you may be saying things like ‘Love relationship isn’t work’ and ‘It’s not work when you love what you are doing.’ So our story is that whatever you are moving through is leading to something worthwhile, something even wonderful.
Lovers and Four of Cups are not connecting (Four of Cups, not; Lovers, connecting), and here’s Eight of Pentacles who keeps trying, so ‘Keeps trying but doesn’t really connect.’ You can also easily see Four of Cups and Eight of Pentacles as not working (Four of Cups, not; Eight of Pentacles, working). Lovers
Lovers today is literally a love relationship, lovers, being together, partners, us, them, being on the same side, contact, and other such things. Lovers is ‘us,’ a couple, attachment, siding with, even propinquity (meaning physically in the same place). It means ‘connection’ as a word – all the applications, even the mechanical ones … like stapled together or paper-clipped.

You feel the pain looking at this drawing. A world of hurt, and a cold cruel world. Star
Star feels good, is singing in the bath outdoors at night, nude. It’s a performance, it is talking and confessing love, and making love promises. Star is blurting out how he or she really feels. That is the part of Star we use today.
Lovers
Lovers’ central meaning is ‘connection.’ It shows Adam and Eve, a volcano (usually for passion) between them, the snake in her tree and his tree of life, a red-winged angel with red and green hair, and the noon sun. Several categories of meanings are called forth with all these elements. Today it’s lovers, contact, connect/connection.

Knight of Swords doubles back in a hurry, returns, changes direction, gets back to (you), last minute, gets out of or makes a quick escape. ‘Again’ is a very common word for him. He gets out of or takes back (what he said). (It) hits … sudden or fast or rush, instantly, brief, for the moment, prematurely, very soon, get it over with. A re-run, even.

Star and Lovers is saying ‘I love you’ and Lovers is lovers. Star is ‘most any kind of talking, and Lovers is any kind of contact or connection. Star is feeling good and good health, and Lovers is making a connection to. So Star and Lovers together is also a conversation with a contact (as in business), and Knight of Swords adds ‘quickly’ to that notion. The meat of our reading today is Star + Lovers.
