He travels fastest alone, and is surer to make it, than he who travels with a backseat full of relatives and disgruntled, maladjusted team members and neighbors. The more people in your life, the more complicated the steering is to your destination. We are asking ourselves, what about the politics of the road that leads to where I want to be? Chariot

Chariot is a very esoteric (magical) Tarot card, rather complex, and echoes Strength, but the easy way to use Chariot is to think of hands on the steering wheel, because it is a vehicle. (This is the card that can show up to represent a boat, an airplane, even a UFO: any vehicle at all.) For the magical and philosophical applications of Chariot, google ‘Chariot Tarot Verbatim.’

Charioteers were the leaders in war: Their decisions and their actions determined who won. They were VIPs and champions … and manly men like we think of bomber pilots. The meanings that grow out of this situation are the ones we use today: I manage; have taken control of; the leader; responsible; do something about. So Chariot is the leader, the manager, the doer. Chariot is in control and has control of the situation (and the self). Chariot is a responsible person, and Chariot has the responsibility.

Another emphasis of this Chariot card, along the same line, is success, getting ahead, ambition, ‘making it,’ and being the winner. The traits that go along with the success also are Chariot words, things like: can handle, very capable, sensible person, willpower, self-control, and experts at (making whatever happen). And Chariot can read ‘solution’ as Strength commonly does.

Chariot makes the decisions, so this Tarot card means ‘decision’ and means ‘choose,’ which are common translates for Chariot.

Part of the esoteric meaning of Chariot is using factors that are against the success of the endeavor to further it (‘tacking against the wind’). We are not using it today, but it’s a good thing to keep in mind.

Page of Cups

Here’s a misfit, a strange, goofy, maybe even crazy person: a fellow in women’s clothing who carries a dead fish in a cup. When Page of Cups is the first Self card in Celtic Cross spreads, it tells the reader: This does not make any sense, but it’s true. (Took me a while to notice that: look.)

Think of Page of Cups as a question mark. It means doubt, like Seven of Pentacles. One of its most frequent translates is just to use the words of your other cards to put the sentence into question form directly. Here’s today’s examples of that: Are …?; so how do you get; where did all these; did I really; whatever happened to; so what?; Which am I?; Where did you that THAT idea?

The other very frequent translates for Page of Cups are words that mean funny, silly, humor, ridiculous, goofy, crazy, fool, maladjusted. Think of the words people use when they are annoyed at someone and are putting them into a derogatory category. You know, damn Yankee, fool, idiot, etc.

Page of Cups expresses doubt. Here are the words for that today: maybe, I seem to have, and ‘hey, you’re supposed to be.’ Unsure of oneself: That is another doubt Page of Cups represents in your spreads.

 

Ten of Pentacles

See the family quarrel?: that’s the center of Ten of Pentacles’ meanings in Tarot Verbatim™. Apparently, nowhere else. The family clan. Patriarch on his throne, attended by the dogs, has issued an ultimatum that pleases Son-Husband and distresses Wife who is already stressed out by the log on her leg (the squalling brat). I’m willing to bet Grandpa wants another boy-child in his lineage. See Husband stare into space as Wife pleads … and the old man gloats, secure in his authority? Yeah, the human clan.

Ten of Pentacles is the third ‘family card,’ and all the family cards in Tarot Verbatim extend to any size group (usually human of course). Ten of Pentacles is the ‘negative family card’; it denotes a dysfunctional (a/k/a messed-up) group of people, or couple, or family, or clan. (UNLESS the other two positive family cards are already in the spread, in which case Ten of Pentacles is likely to just be a repeat of them. The other two are Ten of Cups and Four of Wands.)

So this is the card for the sides people take. Here are its words along the line of the disagreements, for today: infighting, these warring factions, this dysfunctional marriage, this sick situation, the family feud, these disgruntled folks, people are the problem, upset their apple card, the politics.

And this is the card for words about who the sides are. Here are those words and phrases: those people’s; the people I hang out with; the power people; the asylum; your relatives; politicians; as messed up as anyone; the wrong side of the tracks; some maladjusted friends; all these relatives.

Watch for Ten of Pentacles to appear as cultural or family or national background, or racial or religious background. 

Ten of Pentacles sometimes just translates ‘our problem’ or ‘the problem.’ Today we consider being part of the problem, even.

 

 

 

 

We start with getting ahead, Chariot does that. On the other side is all the problems with people in the situation, Ten of Pentacles. And in the middle, Page of Cups waves the white flag with the red question mark on it. None of these cards have overlapping meanings, and the three of them tend to tell the same story in different ways many times over.

Page of Cups has a sense of humor about things, and that comes out in its present company, very strongly. It’s one of the ‘Duh’ cards in Tarot Verbatim™. It calls anything nearby into question, and usually attaches to only one of the cards in its spread. So when it focuses on Chariot, it’s asking how to get ahead, or wondering whether it can handle anything. Anything that Chariot means.

And when Page of Cups focuses on Ten of Pentacles, it’s those weird people who don’t get along, or wondering about the damnfool relatives, or even feeling like maybe you’re one of those misfits.
