Nine of Cups is getting what you want, making money, being pleased and satisfied, and is also about pleasing others, so this card dovetails with the ‘good deal’ part of Three of Pentacles’ meanings. Page of Swords is both anticipating (looking forward to) and being hyper or even frantic about dealing with other people. The simple point is that other people can make us happy, and other people can drive us crazy.

Nine of Cups.…………. Nine of Cups is being content and satisfied with what you have, and it also represents what you want and expect reasonably to get. This concept is illustrated by a chubby fellow who is feeling that way after a big meal. Nine of Cups can be your dream. Nine of Cups is making money. Some people say ‘sweet’ about Nine of Cups things. All’s right with the world in Nine of Cups’ neighborhood.
Page of Swords.………. Page of Swords is crisis mode – is us getting agitated and upset about something, being afraid of what might happen – is that uneasy feeling. He can feel it but he can’t see it. Page of Swords is adrenaline. Note that Mr. Page of Swords is in an empty field. So this Page of Swords is about anxiety of both kinds: the anxiety of being fearful about what might happen, and the anxiety of being thrilled and hopeful about what might happen, like, say, a kid the day before Christmas. Rage or anticipation.
The way this feeling is illustrated is a young fellow who is clearly frantic about something. Is he looking for a fight? Is he jealous? Is he defensive or touchy? Is his check not in the mail? Is there a monster under his bed? He has his weapon at the ready as he whirls around. Something has gone ‘bump’ in the night.
Page of Swords may focus on the threat or the source of the feeling, rather than the feeling itself. Here, it can translate the challenge we face. Here, it can say something is scary. Here it can translate an alert, or a level of alertness, as in ‘Be on the Lookout for,’ BOLO. Here, once in a while, Page of Swords is the motivation – is being fired up and inspired.
In its present company today, Page of Swords is not a spoiler card, not a party-pooper. Next to Nine of Cups, getting what you want, and Three of Pentacles, an agreement that meets everyone’s expectations, Page of Swords is about excitement, being psyched, thrilled, motivated, being on pins and needles. Today, Page of Swords means the paler shade of anxious that is more about looking forward to something.
Three of Pentacles……..To get something done, we usually have to involve other people; have to meet and interact with them. When we do, the reward they expect from the transaction is now a factor in our project. We must make room for that, and we must ensure that they are making room for what it is we want to get done. The larger the enterprise, the more people who expect their payoff. It isn’t just money here, it’s satisfaction, and it’s getting along in a reasonable way: give and take.
Three of Pentacles is that give-and-take, is that getting together to get something done. Three of Pentacles is the art of the deal, is the ‘What’s in it for me?’ factor. And of course, Three of Pentacles applies not only to the commercial transaction in the illustration here, but to any relationship – because Three of Pentacles essentially is relationship – so it is a love relationship; it is social relationships.
And it is the negotiation of a contract, or in a court proceeding; it is settling up there, too. See the blueprint the monk and nun (yes, that’s a nun!) hold? The general contractor is demonstrating to them, his clients, that he followed the blueprint and has earned his final draw, the largest payment in the deal – his profit.

Usually, when everybody in a story is happy with it, when everyone is getting along smoothly, the back-story is their struggle with one another – their negotiations, each wanting his payoff from the mutual deal, and each agreeing to his or her contribution in the deal, and then actually performing it. Orchestrating these mutually satisfying arrangements, whether in business, love, social relationships, or lawsuits, is quite an art.

Guidance How upset people get when someone lets them down, doesn’t do what they feel was agreed upon. Conversely, how one can enjoy peace and quiet by being indifferent to others’ expectations. Nine of Pentacles and Four of Swords are both about not being involved, not participating, not responding, being indifferent. Nine of Pentacles is involved in her own activity or world (and not anyone else’s) – is proudly independent and content with whatever she has already … she has a life. Four of Swords is retired, ‘time out,’ asleep, is not participating and not responsive … even in a coma.
Pair the other two cards, and they speak of being ill at ease or anxious about dealing with other people. Page of Swords is feeling threatened, is excited or upset or irritated … or thrilled … maybe for no good reason. Three of Pentacles is doing one’s part in a deal, relationship, meeting, contract or agreement.
Three of Pentacles is the deal or relationship – any social or commercial exchange – going through. Four of Swords is ‘nothing doing,’ no activity.
Four of Swords is resting; Page of Swords is frantic.
Our subject is doing one’s part, and how a person who isn’t doing what others feel is his or her part drives them crazy. It’s also about tuning out what others expect, in the interests of your own peace and quiet.
LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES
Nine of Pentacles is content with whatever she has, so she is rich. She is disinterested in other people and their affairs, neither asking nor giving anything from them. Independent, self-sufficient, minds her own business, doesn’t know the neighbors. She owns her circumstances, be it home, business, empire or a trailer. See her play with her bird, wearing her robe still in the afternoon in her vineyard, a snail expressing she does things in her own good time.
Page of Swords Something goes bump in the night and your nerves light up. “Something’s afoot.” Blood is stirred, on alert, guarding the turf. You feel touchy, on edge, irritated, angry … or excited and even thrilled. Page of Swords is adrenaline. See him whirling around, weapon in hand, and miles of nothing all around him.
Four of Swords is turned off, asleep, not participating, unresponsive, not interested … time out. The knight meditates in the church on the sarcophagus of a famous saint or hero. He will have a vision about his life purpose. Today he is a party who has opted out of the action.
Three of Pentacles is getting together and getting it done, whether it is a relationship, a business transaction, an agreement or settlement. The architect demonstrates with the blueprint that he is entitled to his final draw, the large one.

Each Tarot sentence is a literal-interpretation reading of the scenes pictured on the four cards you see. Only what each of the cards says – phrase by phrase – no fillers – no psychic ability used. The readings are about you and the people around you. They are about today and the days around it. Tarot, all by itself, talks to you. This is a demonstration of that .
Tarot will address any group flexibly, as it does here of ‘all the visitors.’ (It can address ‘all the people at work who have a say in my raise,’ for instance, without you knowing who or where those people are.)
Horoscopes are group readings too.
Astrology has to be based on someone else’s birth data, though, so it does not solidly apply to you just because of where the sun was when you were born. (Astrologers know this.)
Emily wants to know whether these sentences are more accurate for regular visitors than for people who have come only a few times. Would you help with a comment, if that is who you are? Please?
Without a question to focus the answer, four cards can mean contradictory things, especially when the Spread has a card that means ‘no, never or not.’ That negative modifier can apply to any one of the cards.
Without a question also the pronouns (you, him, her, me, us, them, they, etc.) in a group reading are more flexible, especially in some of these Rider Waite Tarot spreads. When a pronoun is in parentheses, feel very free to substitute. Notice how, as much as possible, we drop pronouns, which makes for some awkward phrasing.
The question in a ‘real’ individual reading supplies at least half the information! In a ‘real’ reading, the parties are identified (including the gender of the questioner!), and so is the time frame if there is one. In this group reading, we cannot do that, so we have variety.

Without a question also the pronouns in a group reading are more flexible, especially in some of these Rider Waite Tarot spreads. When a pronoun is in parentheses, feel very free to substitute. The two Tarot cards that in Rider Waite mean relationship and mean deal are here. Those are Three of Pentacles and Temperance. Have you noticed that Rider Waite Verbatim Tarot ™ has this propensity to speak of relationships and deals with the same complexes of card citizens? So there’s no doubt we are speaking of relationships in cash and relationships in love.
Three of pentacles is an agreement – is a fair deal in which each or all parties perform their parts – is a meeting, often of three people – and is putting our heads together and coming to a settlement satisfactory to all. It is the pluperfect real estate closing card because that is what is depicted in its illustration.
Temperance is being close partners whether in love or business or both. It can be a couple but does not have to. This is trust – this is “one hand washes the other.” This is about equals and about closeness.
These two sit right next to “Your Wish is Granted” – the famous Nine of Cups. Nine of Cups is your dream come true, is having it all, is getting whatever you want most.

Temperance is about close relationship, is about a deal – usually a deal with a trusted person or partner. It is about communication. That is what it is doing here today. It has some rare meanings, not to worry today about them. The illustration shows an angel pouring liquid (wine) from one cup to another, standing in water.
