Eight of Cups
You see the new and the full moon conjoin here: end and beginning, suggesting a change or switch like Knight of Swords, but Eight of Cups is specializing in that concept and Knight of Swords is just passing through it. Ace of Cups
Ace of Cups has its esoteric side, its spiritual side, its religious side, its philosophical side. That’s four sides of Ace of Cups we aren’t using today. (You can Google ‘Ace of Cups Tarot Verbatim’ and get maybe more than you can stand.) Today Ace of Cups is using its very common real-world words: easy, good, love, health, good times, letting, healing, ease up, and comfort (‘the nest’).
Six of Swords
Six of Swords is a journey – a journey of leaving from and going to a different place; a journey in consciousness, putting something undesirable out of your existence and ‘leaving it behind.’ This card has so many applications, and several moods: It can be depressing (After all you are looking at refugees sneaking out at dusk in an open paddle-boat, and without luggage.) and it can be hopeful (The worst is over, better times are ahead.) and, yes, it can be matter-of-fact (Going to grandma’s house).
One thing is for sure about Six of Swords: Things are not going to be as they used to be … ‘We are on our way.’ Maybe we could title Six of Sword Underway. Or ‘things aren’t that way anymore’ since Six of Swords can be looking in the rear view mirror.
Page of Swords
Here’s that little rock that our oyster is going to turn into a pearl: and that’s you. Page of Swords, best way to apply, is ‘adrenaline.’ Adrenalin because this Rider Waite Tarot card can be about any kind of excited state, from fear or panic to being thrilled. Anticipation and anxiety are the same body state – same symptoms anyway. So Page of Swords can be about a challenge, an adventure, or it can be about danger or aggravation or tension. (You will find a list of the attributes Page of Swords uses today in the Tarot Lesson for this date.)
Page of Swords can be edgy as a feeling, or can be edgy as a person. Page of Swords is that annoying, aggravating, irritating person that gets on your last nerve. Page of Swords can be a neurotic labile bottom-feeder … you know the type. (Lucky you if you don’t.)

Now Without The Pictures |
Ace of Cups and Six of Swords together talk about getting over some bad time and being in good shape. Gradually improving health would be a good example. Ace of Cups is good … anything and everything is good – and specifically, health. Six of Swords is putting a bad time or place behind and going on into better times or places as things improve. Six of Swords is recovery, and Ace of Cups is soundness. Both Ace of Cups and Six of Swords refer to life being good or better.
Page of Swords is the threat, the bad time that has been lived through and left behind. But Page of Swords is also panic, nerves, jitters, irritation and aggravation, so our story could be about a nervous person who just needs to get over the nerves, not the situation itself – or about the aggravating person leaving and things therefore improving.
Page of Swords is also a thrill or being thrilled, excitement, being turned on, being alert, being on the lookout, and a challenge. (Expect the ‘challenge’ meanings to take precedence when ‘opportunity’ is the subject, or when cards like Wheel of Fortune, grand opportunity, appear.) Using these Page of Swords chapters in this spread makes a story of getting out of a not-so-good circumstance and into a good situation or easy times.
Lastly, using Six of Swords ‘are over’ with Ace of Cups ‘good time,’ you do get ‘The good times are over.’ Page of Swords is afraid of that.

It’s slow going when you are doing it all in one load, once and for all. It’s slow progress, though: You take the whole thing upon yourself to get it done right. A task (or any process) taking a long time, and it being difficult, are what Ten of Wands is all about. Ten of Wands is keeping at it – a steady persistent consistent effort, ‘giving it all you’ve got.’ You see a fellow who strains under the load of all the wood, making slow progress. The mysterious otherworldly critters, at least some of whom are unsavory, are on the rim of the wheel, and in the sky outside it. In real Tarot practice, Wheel of Fortune is an opportunity; is a chance or opportunity to; is the chances of something … ‘most always something good. Run your eyes down the red words in NOW WE SHOW WHERE EACH PHRASE IN EACH SENTENCE COMES FROM, and you will feel Page of Swords. Adrenaline. But different sources for the adrenaline rush, different types of that sort of stimulation.
The first type that occurs in our one-sentence readings today is excitement, also expressed as: invigorating; turns me on; a thrill.

Eight of Wands
Eight of Wands is a weird card, okay? – in Tarot Verbatim™ anyway. The picture shows the wands flying through the air one on top of another. That explains all its ‘fast’ and ‘quick’ and even ‘hurry’ meanings, and also anything about verbal or written communication over the wire or internet – but this card is the main communication card for any kind – smoke signals, telepathy, texting – any way at all. Today we have: verbal, talking, a talk, have to say, chat, calls, texts.
The wands one on top of another flying through the air also is a fairly good excuse for all those meanings about continual or sequential or ‘one after the other’ type phrases. ‘Continual’ is express typically as ‘keeps’ when that is a verb or adverb – usually ‘keeps at it’ or ‘keeps doing.’ Often the ‘keeps’ refers to another card’s verb meaning. ‘Continual’ is also expressed as frequent, constant, or often. ‘Continual’ also appears in phrases like today’s ‘is getting.’
Now come common Eight of Pentacles meanings for which there is scant support in the illustration. The ‘sequential’ translate for Eight of Wands appears as all sorts of phrases like today’s ‘one after another.’ You can say: over and over, time after time, each time or each and every time, etc. There are a lot of those.
Another group of words owned by Eight of Wands is the ‘increasingly’ class: more and more, closer and closer, and similar phrases.
And now for a very common category of Eight of Wands meanings: a lot, another, more, every time, too much, all those, most, many, all kinds of.
Temperance
Temperance is even weirder than Eight of Wands, meanings-to-illustration wise. The pouring back and forth of water and wine to dilute it (hence ‘Temperance’ in imbibing intoxicating spirits) does not invoke any dilution meanings or alcohol related meanings for me in my Tarot trip. Nope. I am happy for you if it does for you.
Sharing an overlap with Three of Pentacles, Temperance is a main relationship card; and it’s the back-and-forth motion that meanings flock to in this picture. But the back-and-forth is not literal as it is in Two of Pentacles. Nope. The back-and-forth relates to communication, to response and reciprocity, to intimate communication – heart-to-heart stuff. Intimate partners is a common translate for Temperance. And like Lovers – another relationship card that often is about two people – Temperance means ‘partners’ in any sense. Temperance goes further and means ‘together,’ and two people together.
Besides the intimacy category, Temperance is all about being together, getting together, being friends or buddies, best friends or close friends.
And like Three of Pentacles, Temperance very often is dealing with, making deals – offer and exchange situations.

Star is performing a public purification ceremony, an occasion of great joy and sensuality, a ritual bath. A shapely woman sings and pours liquids from jugs into the bathing pond under the stars. This is a card of love, enthusiastic love, declaring love feelings, feeling singing-in-the-shower good, expressing wholeheartedly, and telling and confessing and gushing and ‘spilling your guts.’
Star is also good news and publicity (press releases, anyone?), sales pitches, reports, explanations, explaining, telling, talk (speak/say/tell category), and girl talk, since Star is a girl. Still in the speak/say/tell Tarot tribe, Star means venting, gushing, and even flattering. Star also expresses gratitude – hence, it says ‘Thank you.’
Yes, this is one of the cards that translates: female, girl, woman – and even ‘her.’
Another category Star belongs to is health – robust health, and feeling very good, very healthy – particularly as a result of healing. And Ace of Cups of course means healing.
Ace of Cups
What is this? Ace of Cups is a diagram of a concept. The concept is that God’s spirit infuses the senses (five senses) of a human, flows through that person to influence mass consciousness of other humans. This is a Roman Catholic based Tarot card. The dove represents Holy Spirit, and in its beak it has the wafer of the Communion ritual in which humans ritually ingest the spirit of the divine. The five flows represent the five senses … and also the Middle Ages ‘five humors’ or body fluids. The body of water they streams flow into represents mass consciousness of humans. That ‘W’ also means something in Roman Catholic ideology, too. This illustration arises from the fountain Ste. Teresa d’Avila writes about in her Interior Castles, a tome universities consider the premier work of Western mysticism.

Think of adrenaline and you package most of Page of Swords. You see a fellow alarmed by unseen threat and ready to fight, a hyper nerved-up guy on a grassy knoll waving a weapon around as he whirls about. Nothing in sight for miles around.

Eight of Wands also means ‘quickly’ and its synonyms. The boards are flying through the air quickly.
Hanged Man
Several themes belong to Hanged Man. Hanged Man is sensitive to the surrounding cards. ‘Realize’ is its main word, because Hanged Man is ‘getting it.’ He has radar. Hanged Man is about psychic abilities, insight, telepathy (both receiving and sending), awareness, sensing, foreseeing, and being struck by an incoming idea, inspiration, realization or thought.
Hanged Man is intense, and will translate ‘intense’ or ‘intensely.’ Hanged Man is feeling – getting a feeling, strong feeling – even things getting to you, today, with Page of Swords’ nervous energy beside Hanged Man.

Here’s a young fellow all nerved up, on guard, hyper. Page of Swords is adrenalin, is being scared, angry, anxious, irritated, excited, threatened or threatening. Strength
Here’s a lady wearing flowers and a white robe, having the eternity sign for a halo. She has her hands on a lion’s mouth, shushing his roar. Strength is about overcoming without a struggle, is about the bloodless victory. Strength is about having the expertise and the character to stop would-be opposition in its tracks … opposition of various kinds.
Strength represents the spiritual truth that when you overcome within yourself, you overcome in the external environment too. Also, the curious fact that when you solve something in your head – the perfect squelch, the perfect reply – you won’t get to use it ‘in the real world’ because the situation will not happen again, as if by magic.
Phrases native to Strength are: handles, overcomes, solves, solution, prevents trouble, handles a problem, prevents harm, nips opposition in the bud, assertive woman, finesses a situation.
Since she is hands-on with the predator, ‘hands-on’ is one of Strength’s words (like Eight of Pentacles, work). The hands on the lion also can bring up physical touch, petting.
Four of Pentacles
You sense a back-story, a secret, to the illustration here. A fellow clutches his money to himself, stares straight ahead, and is sitting in a street by himself, turning his back on the town behind him.
The title of this card in most Tarot books is The Miser. The way he clutches those coins brings up all sorts of phrases about holding in and holding on, about not letting yourself, about keeping from, being cowed, even sulking. Holding onto himself brings up stifling himself, laying low, feeling inferior, not talking, keeping quiet about something, not admitting something, keeping a secret, not expressing.
Holding onto the money also brings up a trunk of meanings about deficit, about being short … short of money, not enough, budget.

Strength is overcoming either internal demons or external demons, and it also is about preventing harm, nipping trouble in the bud.
Page of Swords is determined to keep everything away. Four of Pentacles is holding it in, is keeping what he has from everyone. So both Page of Swords and Four of Pentacles are keeping something bad out. Both can be defensive. The context of the cards today makes this about fear and threat, and Strength makes most of the stories about overcoming.
You see Page of Swords literally armed against ‘whatever’s out there,’ which is nowhere to be seen. You see Four of Pentacles hugging himself to shut something out. But both Page of Swords and Four of Pentacles are also feeling intruded upon. Page of Swords is hyped up, often in anger; Four of Pentacles is sulking, giving someone ‘the silent treatment.’
As you read this, you can see that Page of Swords and Four of Pentacles can be about a ruckus, a confrontation. But today, when Strength joins them, the drama is mostly internal. Today our headline stories say that when you have yourself in control, you have elements of the environment in control that could be exciting or threatening.
Strength and Page of Swords are both dealing with fears – Strength through mastering them and Page of Swords through being confronted by them. Strength and Page of Swords are both defending turf – Strength through having the expertise to intimidate opposition before it rears its head, Page of Swords through gearing up to clash before it is actual.
But we have other themes as well. Strength can be processing the internal secret soul stuff that Four of Pentacles is repressing and not admitting even to (him)self. Strength overcomes the personal issue Four of Pentacles is repressing and not acknowledging.

Eight of Cups
A pedestrian goes out of his way around a mountain that is in the way The new and full moon conjoined suggest this end-of-one-thing-and-beginning- of-another. Eight of Cups has that as one of its strong themes. Another strong theme is disruption. ‘Abort course’ belongs to Eight of Cups, which even includes abortion or miscarriage.
Running off the road belongs to Eight of Cups in any way, including derailment of plans or of actions. One of the ways this is expressed, often, is ‘not anymore,’ which includes putting a word in between those two – a word another card supplies.
Eight of Cups is one of many cards that translates ‘leave.’ It will stay ‘stop’ too when that means stop doing or stop being.
Eight of Cups is also abandoning course. This concept expands to include phrases like: going out of your way, leave when something first happens, leave without notice, walk off, until (he) leaves. Going A. W. O. L.
Since the pilgrim in the illustration is making an unexpected detour, Eight of Cups often simply translates ‘suddenly’ or ‘unexpectedly.
Today Eight of Cups says ‘avoid,’ as it often can, and also ‘without engaging in it,’ which means somewhat the same thing.
Page of Swords
The best shortcut to remembering and applying Page of Swords’ meanings is to look at how agitated the young man is, and think of any body state involving adrenaline. Today is a good example: on edge, mad, jealous, fearful, uneasy, let it get to me, angry, nervous, touchy, annoyed, mad, hostile and hyper. Whether the agitation is well-founded or not doesn’t matter in applying Page of Swords. Page of Swords is mainly how the person (or animal or whatever) feels.
Page of Swords also translates the thing that is upsetting, not just the angst itself: unseen danger. Today we say ‘doesn’t see the danger,’ ‘when they first imagine something’s up,’ ‘a dangerous situation,’ ‘things that bug me,’ and ‘exciting.’
.In the illustration, he whirls around, sword up, hair swirling around, feet spread out … and you can see for miles around … and there’s nothing there. Nothing to see anyway. He is defensive, on guard, defending his turf from something in his head.
Chariot
Driving a car is a primal instinct, especially to males the world over. So much so that it’s considered unladylike, or even forbidden, in some macho countries. Chariot expresses this drive, nowadays: that steering wheel in your hands and you’re goin’ someplace, getting’ there, etc.
But the foundational meaning of Chariot is really about strategy, winning, willpower, mastering a situation, responsibility, being able to handle (whatever), and having the organizational skill to be a superb reliable leader. These meanings belong to this Chariot card because Charioteers were the bomber-pilot types of their day. Chariots won (or lost) wars with their strategy. (Read all about it.) But don’t think of a reckless adventurer: Chariot is totally rational, a grown-up to the bone.
So you often find Chariot translating: choose or choice; decision; determined; aim to; ambition; purpose or deliberately.
Chariot is all about control: self-control, mastery of a situation, mastery of skills. Chariot is making a decision: choosing, and then performing, accomplishing … delivering. Chariot performs the contract under budget and timely.
The illustration shows her seated on cushions outdoors, with abundant spring growth, crowed elaborately: riches, abundance, being adored, being gorgeous.

What a contrast between Eight of Cups and Chariot. They make a movie of a car running off the road, or of a person dropping out, or of a project derailed. That’s because of the contrast: Chariot is determined to succeed at what he is up to, and Chariot has the skill and the strategy to achieve that; Eight of Cups is a quitter, or gets thrown off course.
.And the other card, Page of Swords, reads either the angst of the disrupted course, or the thrill of the success. So our message today is either one of these scenarios, or both.
