Guidance

We find ways. We find ways when we are broke to get together with our people. We find a house in a neighborhood we can afford, a fixer-upper maybe. We make a good home life on a shoestring. We do without for the sake of family. Everyone’s path includes some Dark Night of the Soul, and I am a friend to people who are in need as much as I am to people who are doing well. You guys feel inferior when the truth is, you are as good as the rest of us.

Synopsis

A person who is all about solitude feels as stressed in the company of a bunch of people as a person who is a natural-born joiner feels in solitude. The group leaves you cold when your real life is internal. One man can see how his marriage is draining him of life, and another misses being married and is out looking. But even if you are a hermit, your people comfort you when you are down.

Four of Wands

Four of Wands

A socially prominent respectable family – the foundation and leaders of the town – is hosting the public part of a wedding ceremony: That’s our picture. The ‘family’ theme extends to any group or organization or Company – any kind and any size of group of people, from neighborhood to national or international.

As a wedding, Four of Wands starts with the marriage and the couple, of course. Naturally, Four of Wands means the good sensible solid people of the society (any society, anywhere). But it also (as its twin ‘family’ card does) means ‘everybody.’ Today it is a crowd, and the people who are in good shape, who are doing well, who are ‘as good as anyone else.’ It also represents a good home life.

Four of Wands is a house or building, including a public building. Today, that makes it a treatment center or a religious organization, with Hermit as the religious part.

Hermit

Hermit

This (service order) monk goes out at night with a light as a beacon for travelers on the road, to help them or invite them in for dinner. So Hermit is coming to the aid of, helping out, looking or searching or seeking, a religious person, being decent and wise, and also being a doctor or healer. He is dressed as a doctor of the middle ages’ time. Hermit is a trip on the road, usually pedestrian. Hermit also can refer to winter, snow, cold, mountains, nighttime, and carrying a light (flashlight, headlight, etc.).

Hermit owns the virtues and attributes of a service monk: being devoted, being alone, being humble, being on the Path, being religious, kind, helpful, a friend, loyal.

This Hermit card also translates: understanding, knowing, truth, sincere, seeing or observing, or even witnessing.

Five of Pentacles

Five of Pentacles

Five of Pentacles  is one of the dismal cards. It can be about hitting bottom and being so numb you don’t see the way out. It can be desperation. Being desperate financially, having a hopeless health problem – all of that. The picture shows homeless son and mother, crippled and shoe-less trudging through the snow past a church that, back then offered food and shelter … unless you were a leper, and that is what the bell around the boy’s neck represents. So today Five of Pentacles says these things in our story: disabled, miserable, draining him of life, people who are in need, feeling inferior, sick and crippled people, the ghetto, and desperate people in bad shape.

But that is just where we start … with the illustration. Here are the more common meanings of Five of Pentacles from today’s work: A rundown neighborhood, I’m lonely, a fixer-upper house, leaves you cold, feeling left out, broke, on a shoestring, sacrifices and does without, misses, in the dead of winter, when you are down, my shortcomings, and when you need it.

Five of Pentacles can, and often is, making do with what you have; doing without as a sacrifice. Even a down mood or a ‘day from hell.’

But Five of Pentacles has a very special meaning for your spiritual life: Dark Night of the Soul. That’s when you have had an enlightenment, an epiphany, a peak experience, a eureka revelation or awakening, which is followed by a sort of buyer’s-remorse despair at … now that you see … how benighted, how ignorant, you were. Dark Night of the Soul is a miserable, but normal and natural, experience.

Learn Tarot

Now Without The Pictures

These three cards have some powerful and curious interplays in common. Hermit is a monk, a service monk, out looking for people in need outdoors on a mountain path, to bring them in for dinner and wise chat. The mother and son in Five of Pentacles are outdoors on the street, in need, passing by a church and not asking help from it. So we have someone bringing help to people who need it but are not seeking it. We have two stories that take place outdoors on the street or trail, and we have two cards that are stories about church.

Four of Wands is home, and is people who have the comforts of a good home. Five of Pentacles is people who have no home and no comfort. Hermit – the helper and the help – is stationed between them. Four of Wands and Five of Pentacles contrasts people who are in good shape with people who are in bad shape, and contrasts the superior ‘leaders of the town’ with the inferior ‘bums on the street.’

Hermit is a solitary individual who is alone, and Five of Pentacles is people who are ‘alone in the world,’ who are lonely outcasts.

Four of Wands is an organization and Hermit can translate ‘religious,’ so: a religious organization – or its building or headquarters, which Four of Wands also means. Hermit is devoted, and Four of Wands is family, so: He is devoted to his family, or devotion to the family. Hermit is coming, and Four of Wands is home, so: coming home.

The theme for the preponderance of the stories these spreads make is: belonging and not belonging – being a member of the group, or being outside membership – whether by choice as Hermit is, or by being shunned and shut out or excluded as Five of Pentacles is.

Seven of Swords

Seven of Swords

This is one of the complex Rider Waite Tarot cards. You see a fellow hot-footing it out of enemy camp in broad daylight carrying their weapons (disarming the enemy) blade down in his bare hands. So you have a thief, stolen property, weapons and stolen weapons, daring, a hero or spy-type mission, a traitor, risk, self-undoing and self-destructive behavior. You have ‘illegal’ itself – an illegal act or, these days, illegal person. Seven of Swords is dirty tricks, is a culprit or criminal, lowlife, ruthless or merely unethical.

In real life Tarot practice, Seven of Swords is someone who violates trust, double-crosses, undermines another person, is thieving, is cheating or sneaking around (usually with another lover). Seven of Swords is a ruthless person. You do not want to see this card with Six of Wands, also the secret enemy.

But Seven of Swords is also adventure, taking a chance, having the guts or the nerve to, getting even, getting justice done in a street-justice way, and outfoxing the enemy or outsmarting the problem person. It can simply represent a risk or hazard too. Seven of Swords in Tarot Verbatim can be advice to get unethical yourself and use foul means to accomplish the fair purpose.

Eight of Wands

Eight of Wands

The picture of one board above another flying through the air ends up not only meaning words like ‘increasingly’ and phrases like ‘one after another’ or ‘more and more,’ but also putting suffixes like ‘-ier,’ and ‘-iest’ on innocent by-standing Tarot cards. Eight of Wands can also splatter its neighbor cards with plural forms. Note that it’s not unusual for one of these operations to be Eight of Wands’ only contribution to your spread! Yeah, one little ‘s’ is it.

Why is Eight of Wands the main general communication card? Still trying to figure that out – but it does operate that way. It represents written or spoken communication, including documents and lists. Any kind of communication, even telepathy and smoke signals. Lists are easy to see: the lines suggest that. And this is the card for texting.

Eight of Wands also means quickly and fast, and can be one of the speed/hurry/rush cards.

Justice

Justice

Besides meaning lawyers, judges, courtrooms, trials, police and the word ‘legal,’ Justice also means fair, should, supposed to, sane, sensible, normal, legit, straight, right, entitled and deserves. Going straight brings in ‘sober’ for Justice, and also ‘Rehab,’ which is, of course, going straight. Justice is the real thing (versus the counterfeit), and sometimes it means reality, get real, realistic, etc.

Justice shares those ‘going straight’ and ‘normal’ meanings with Hierophant. It shares the fairness mode with Six of Pentacles.

Learn Tarot

Now Without The Pictures

The pattern of a neutral card between two opposite ones recurs here. Seven of Swords is the illegal and Justice is the legal, and Eight of Wands just means more of the same, quickly, writing, or talk.

It’s easy to see two main stories at a glance: the bad guy goes straight; justice is accomplished by illicit means. It’s easy to see police stealing, and criminal courts too. Stolen legal documents is right there too, but I didn’t list it because it doesn’t have that much meaning for visitors, I felt.

The main message of our today-spread is: The bad guy or culprit or offending person goes straight, is straightened out, is outsmarted – or undoes himself.

Now to make it exceedingly plain and simple, we list the expressions each pair of cards makes. We list them in paragraph form rather than itemized so that they flow, and your subconscious clicks into place and ‘gets it.’ You may even find flashes of dreams or intuitive realities as you read these, at times.

The Rider Waite Tarot™ deck is a data bank in mass consciousness that your subconscious can communicate with. Tarot Verbatim™ is the Rosetta Stone that makes that communication easy because it is a bridge between conscious and subconscious thought. When both your levels of awareness focus together, you think intuitively in real time in ‘the real world.’

Synopsis

It’s another day in the neighborhood, and you are doing what you do. You don’t bother with whatever stuff comes up. You either have your nose to the grindstone, or you are blissing out and hardly looking down as you go along. Or both.

Seven of Swords

Seven of Swords

Here’s his story. He is a foolhardy hero, the daring soldier who pulls off stunts and often survives them where someone else would not. Here, he has sneaked, in broad daylight, into enemy camp before the battle, and is making off with as many of its weapons (swords back then) as he can carry … but he forgot his gloves, and nevertheless is carrying the weighty blades in his bare hands. This is how Seven of Swords gets to mean revenge: We are foolhardy like this when we decide to get even.

Seven of Swords is the bad guy, the criminal, the thief. You are Seven of Swords when you pull off some shenanigan, when you go on an adventure, when you take a chance, when you are sneaky or sneaking, when you have the nerve. You are a victim of Seven of Swords when he is in his thievery mode or worse (He can be an assassin; he can represent an assault). Seven of Swords is a troublemaker and represents risk in one way or another. Derring-do is a very good word for this tricky card.

Here are Seven of Swords’ words for today: those torpedoes, thievery, risky, risks, adventures, troublemaker, taking a chance, criminals, the nerve, that bad-boy, pull off a shenanigan, pulls a trick.

Fool

Fool

Today our Fool is in his or her ‘What, Me Worry?’ mode. Fool is not looking down, not looking around – is disengaged, particularly disengaged from whatever hazards might be. Endowed with such an inner bliss that outer realities are ‘water off a duck’s back.’ He has other meanings, other faces – lots of them, really – but that is who he is being today. And we leave it at that.

Here are Fool’s words for today: to hell with, we didn’t notice, it doesn’t matter, no idea, may as well, don’t look now but, as if it were nothing, somehow, I’m not there, I dunno, unaware, subconscious, regardless of the environment, blissfully disengaged from the environment.

Two of Pentacles

Two of Pentacles

Two of Pentacles is another Rider Waite Tarot card that has a closet stuffed to the gills with applications and meanings, like Fool. And, like Fool, he appears in only one of his aspects. Two of Pentacles keeps going. He is about cycles and repetitious things, routines. The juggler is all about timing as he keeps doing the same thing.

Here are Two of Pentacles’ words for today: carry on, as it went on, after you do a few, is up to next, keep taking a _, are at it again, one after another, keep-on-trucking, gets what’s coming to (him), iffy, pull off a, sometimes, every once in a while.

Now Without The Pictures

Seven of Swords tends to take over a story. I call these ‘star cards,’ because they are the star of the show: All eyes are upon them. The other cards tend to relate to them instead of to one another. Seven of Swords’ lighter meanings are still kinda unwelcome. ‘Adventure’ is its prize phrase, so it can be adventuresome too. It’s the light meanings we access today, influenced by Fool who is VERY light and Two of Pentacles who can be flighty even.

Fool is as special in Tarot as the cipher, the zero, is in the number system. Fool is the zero. Zero is nobody, is ‘just’ a place holder, but it is the foundation of mathematics. It has no value itself, but it determines the value of its neighboring numbers. I could write a book on Fool, and someday I will – just you watch. Today Fool ignores, is unaware, isn’t there, and isn’t affected or impressed. We use only a sliver of Fool today.

Two of Pentacles today uses its ‘continuing’ meanings and its repetition meanings. Only once does it indicate something could go either way – ‘iffy’ – today.

So what are we talking about today? “Carry on.” Keep at it regardless of the environment. Could be you keep your head down and charge forward through dirty water, and could be you are blissfully disengaged and unaffected by whatever drek is around. [Drek is one of those wonderful words in Jewish slang, Yiddish, that roughly means ‘shit’ in the same way we say ‘Shit happens’ in English.]

Tarot Readings for You for March 16-17, 2019

Today we demonstrate how you (yes, you) can read Tarot (at least Rider Waite Tarot in Tarot Verbatim) as a dialog; you and Tarot in a conversation. You can learn to do that piecemeal right here free, or you can organize and speed it up by buying the Tarot Email Training which you will find under the green ‘Get Them Now’ bar. Or you can just enjoy how it’s done here. We have a good true story.

The ‘Shortcut!’ navigation tab above will allow you to purchase Emily’s interpretation of your three-card spread, for less than nine dollars. It is especially for when you are doing your own cards and wonder. (It is not a reading on a question. You enter three cards, the TOPIC, and payment.)

Three examples (three questions) from one person of Email Reading are a study in going ahead and (carefully) answering when the material seems contradictory. They are also an example of why my instructions to Email buyers are that it’s better to say that someone in a love story is married (especially, not to the love interest). In the questions of this reading, I do not know that, so I read in the alternative – meaning, I say it means this, or that, or that. It turns out that it all does make sense to Querant, who explains that it’s all true ….

Then – third question – she asks what conflicted Love Interest is going to do: action in the real world. And this is a demonstration of how … just because someone is in a dither about something … doesn’t rule out their getting on with it decisively.

My question is: What does he feel for me? What will he will do regarding to me in next 3 months?

Guidance

Getting ahead by fair means, foul means, or either way we can; and getting the job done the ordinary way, the creative way, or even the daring way: This is what we are about today. Some jobs require strategy, craftiness or even cunning. It’s one thing to be the manager who can pull the project off within the budget, and quite another to steal credit for another’s idea or effort on that job. So, if you cheat, cheat for the brand, not against it.

Synopsis

How much of a chance to take? – what is the risk to benefit ratio of, say, sticking my neck out or giving them what they deserve? Sometimes we are in an adventuresome mood, and we take a dare – maybe for no good reason. Sometimes we are doing something illegal, risque or risky, just to get the rent and bills paid; sometimes we gamble with the rent money. Ambition can lead to some slippery slopes, and some slippery slopes pay off handsomely. We ponder what our payoff is today.

Chariot

Chariot

Chariot is the man with the plan, the decision maker, the go-to person, the field marshal, the chief. But don’t color him a desk job; he is where the action is. This is the commander of the battalion. This is the project manager who will be blamed or praised at the outcome.

Charioteers were all of that in their day. Special ops, war heroes. This chariot was the ultimate weapon, the tank of its day. The formations charioteers made, the strategies they used, determined win or loss of the conflict most of the time.

His steeds are magic creatures, sphinxes. He has them hitched in such a way the willful creatures must do his bidding, and he controls them with magic wands.

Seven of Swords

Seven of Swords

Seven of Swords This is one card you hate to see coming. Its good-news meanings are few (and not that good). The best things it has to say are: adventure, daring, guts, outfox or outsmart, pull it off, get away with it, special ops. It often means danger, hazard, reckless, self-destructive, thief, criminal, stolen property, and crime. Seven of Swords and Six of Swords, for example, say ‘Crime pays.’

Remember this is a ‘yes, he or she is fooling around’ in romantic questions.

Six of Pentacles

Six of Pentacles

Six of Pentacles is getting what you deserve (in either sense – and we use them both and use the distinction today). It is ‘fair and square’ treatment, a fair exchange, a fair price, and such things as that. It is treating someone fairly, or being treated fairly, and giving or getting attention – paying attention. It is getting credit for what you have done. It’s the payoff, the paycheck, and, with Seven of Swords, payback.

Learn Tarot

Now Without The Pictures

Chariot gets ahead and is a successful man (or person). Chariot is the project manager who delivers the project on time and within budget by using even the hazards in the project to best advantage. Chariot is a strategist and a ‘no excuses’ leader.

Seven of Swords is the ‘by any means possible’ approach. Seven of Swords is both the postman who delivers regardless of hazards, and the laborer who makes off with the equipment and supplies. Although Seven of Swords can be any daring and risky activity, the illustration shows sneaking into enemy camp and stealing its weapons, so it is especially appropriate for stealing. He is sneaking away, so ‘sneaky’ is a major term for Seven of Swords.

Chariot and Seven of Swords are both daring strategists who risk much to get the job done. That gives them much in common. When these two Rider Waite Tarot cards appear in separate sentences in your Celtic Cross spread, they can easily refer to the same person.

So it makes sense that Six of Swords, which means both ‘payoff’ and ‘payback’ completes our layout.

Here’s the difference – some of them anyway. Chariot is a leader, is respectable, and is in charge of an endeavor or project. You say ‘sir’ to Chariot. Chariot is famous for willpower, for decision, and for planning. Seven of Swords is an individual, probably a spur-of-the-moment maverick, and has no plan but is reckless. Note that he is doing the weapons heist in daylight, and is carrying the heavy sharp swords by their blades. Seven of Swords in Rider Waite owns the words reckless, dare, adventure, dangerous, hazardous, hotfoot. He is the main card for crime and criminal. He also is sneaking around, in your romantic inquiries!

Watch for Seven of Swords to appear where trust is violated, where there’s betrayal and double-cross … even though stealing the enemy’s weapons isn’t either of those things. Especially watch for Seven of Swords to apply to violating one’s defenses, since that is what he is doing in the illustration.

So how appropriate that Six of Swords is getting what you deserve, whether that’s payoff or payback.

GUIDANCE         When it comes to derring-do*, you either do or you don’t. Take it on a case-by-case basis. When there’s some danger, some risk, some adventurous opportunity, or when a troublemaker is up to something, sometimes you don’t know, sometimes you ignore the pest, sometimes you pursue an unsuspecting troublemaker, and, well, sometimes it’s you who are pulling something off or sneaking out of town, or quietly getting even so no one knows. We cover all these eventualities here today. (Be on the lookout, either way. It looks like today is a good day to get away with something.)

Pursuing subconscious adventure.

There’s no danger – full speed ahead.

Going out of town where no one knows me for an adventure.

You get ahead through a back door somehow.

Not paying attention, so the man cheats and gets away with it.

When you ignore and they keep after you, there’s something in it for them.

The way he left in such a hurry, I assume he was up to something.

Fool – Seven of Swords – Knight of Wands

.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING and

                LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES

.………..………. .……..…….. Seven of Swords, like Nine of Swords, tends to be the star card (the one the others relate to more than they relate to other citizens of the spread). Here it is in the middle – the daring act, danger, getting away with something, sneaking off, disarming the foe, outsmarting, revenge, and general gutsy stuff.

To the left of Seven of Swords is Fool, who is oblivious, ignoring, or just going with the natural flow at the moment … but who also wasn’t there, and left no fingerprints. To the right is full-speed-ahead Knight of Wands who, with Seven of Swords next to him, may be making a getaway from a crime or a caper. He also adds the idea of speed or hurry to the story the three of them are telling us.

Today is a good day to pull off something and get away with it, or to have that happen to you … or both, since we cover getting even (revenge) along with all the other dramas of the day.

.

.

GET A SINGLE CARD’S MEANINGS: TYPE ITS NAME AND ‘TAROT VERBATIM’ INTO GOOGLE.

Fool……. Who, me? I didn’t do it. I wasn’t even there.

I may as well, what the heck?

Let him do whatever, it’s none of my business.

I had no idea what was going on.

Fool is all of these today. He is a general-purpose covers-all-bases kind of guy card anyway. That’s because, one may surmise, he is the zero, the cipher, the number-fellow who has no value of his own but changes the value of his fellow number-beings by being in their vicinity.

The core meaning of this many-splendored Tarot person is living on the ‘out there’ spiritual plane right down-here in the body. A person who does that is distracted, absent-minded, optimistic and unafraid to deal with anything because it’s all the same to him or her, he or she doesn’t live here anyway … has dual citizenship.

Fool is a youth who is taking his dog for a walk somewhere, carrying almost no provisions, and not looking where he is going. He is about to skip over a cliff, but is expected not to because, well, God protects fools and drunks.

Seven of Swords …….. Here’s that bad guy – the sneak, the cheater, the criminal, the shoplifter, that double-crossing weasel with all the guts, the nerve. Here’s also you, carving off your piece of the guts and the nerve to pull off an adventure, get even, disarm and outsmart the foe. So Seven of Swords can be a dangerous mission, a criminal out to harm and steal, assault or kill, and can be pulling off an against-the-odds achievement.

Seven of Swords is also about self-harm and self-destruction. This part of his lexicon comes from his carrying heavy blades with his bare hands. Sneaking into enemy camp brings in outfoxing the foe, disarming and violating defenses – which of course includes trespassing and double-crossing. Think of those red socks as ‘hot-footing it out of there.’

Knight of Wands……Knight of Wands covers both ‘full speed ahead’ and ‘getting out of Dodge.’ Speed is the constant in Knight of Wands’ dictionary, as is ‘out of town’ and ‘moving on up.’ Getting ahead fast and being one step ahead of whatever is chasing you, that’s Knight of Wands. You can see how he and Seven of Swords would hang out together. With Seven of Swords being the criminal getting away, and Knight of Wands fleeing, you can see fleeing the law here. With Seven of Swords being taking a chance, a risky endeavor, you can see ‘pursuing a chancy opportunity’ for these two as well.

Seven of Swords and Knight of Wands both relate to ‘getting away with it’ and getting away. (And Fool, of course, wasn’t involved, either.)

.

.

To dare, or not to dare; that is the question. Whether to pull it off if I can get away with it, or whether to run from the whole risk. I didn’t know that man was cheating on me until he was gone from here. I don’t know whether I will get away with *what it takes to get ahead fast* or not. I’ll just sneak out of town and no one will know. It’s a long shot, but, heck, I’ll just pursue it anyway. I outfox that bad guy without even knowing I did. And I’m up for the adventure – let’s get on with it.

.

Page of CupsYou question things if you’re Page of Cups – and you don’t fit into their mold; you’re the court jester, the dummy of the tribe even if you’re the only one with a little brains. Maybe you’re the inquiring mind and they have no answers.

.

Of course, sometimes the shoe is on the other foot, and you are asking yourself if you are hanging out with the wrong crowd because you sure aren’t on the same page as they. You have no idea how you fit in here, or if you do. You are the comedian among the straights when you are Page of Cups.

.

What you see if a fellow dressed as a woman who has a fish in a cup he carries around. So he is inappropriate every which way. Page of Cups is a walking question mark in your spreads: He asks questions, he makes your sentences questions, and he even translates ‘question’ as a noun or as a verb. Question everything when you see this guy.

Seven of SwordsEverybody takes chances, and everybody cheats at something but some of us are Bad Guys like Seven of Swords. Of course, one side’s terrorist is another side’s hero. Here we have a fellow … maybe a suspicious character? … who is disarming the enemy in full daylight right where they live – robbing them of their weapons. (This makes Seven of Swords one of the cards that can speak of weapons, as Ace of Swords and Ace of Wands can.)

.

Seven of Swords is risk; Seven of Swords is dare and daring; Seven of Swords is adventure; Seven of Swords is cutthroat, unethical, illegal, dangerous, criminal (mainly a thief), Seven of Swords is breaking the rules, taking your chances, and Seven of Swords is getting away with it too. He is also the man on a mission, even a special forces operative. (Oh, the risk taker can be a lady too.)

Ten of Cups Everybody who is anybody is a Ten of Cups person – the public, the good people, the straights, your family, your friends, the in crowd, the good neighborhood folks, and the good neighborhood.

.

Ten of Cups is happily married, married with children, is a good relationship, and is living well. You feel an association in Ten of Cups of good people with prosperous people: The good guys live in this good neighborhood. (Never mind those other guys.)

Right off the bat, we have the bad guys (Seven of Swords), the good guys (Ten of Cups) and a big question mark (Page of Cups). Intriguing.

We also have: Seven of Swords is risk, and Page of Cups is foolish. A foolish risk. Seven of Swords is adventure and taking a chance or a risk … and Page of Cups is questioning, asking, or considering whether to. Dare I? Asking whether (Page of Cups) to dare, or to ‘have the guts to’ (Seven of Swords) get married (Ten of Cups – which could include having children, because Ten of Cups is also married with children).

.

And here’s Page of Cups asking if you’re happy (Ten of Cups) … asking about good people (Ten of Cups) breaking the law or the rules (Seven of Swords).

.

Another fun juxtaposition in this spread is Page of Cups, the dummy, outfoxing (Seven of Swords) all those straight people (Ten of Cups). These same cards say the straight people (Ten of Cups) have no idea (Page of Cups) they have been outsmarted (Seven of Swords). They also say ‘Dare I (Seven of Swords) be seen as an idiot (Page of Cups) by all these people (Ten of Cups)?

Come to think of it, we also have gays (Page of Cups), straights (Ten of Cups) and things adventuresome, risky, dangerous and daring (Seven of Swords).

We have stories … more than these, even.

What can I get away with and still be accepted in polite society, or whatever society I’m a member of? How far can I go and still be okay with the neighbors? And what are those neighbors up to, anyway? Why should those thieving lowlifes have as good a life as I do, anyway? Do I have the nerve to get married and have kids, even, like everybody else? Inquiring minds are wondering about this respectability thing. We even wonder if those criminals are happy at home with their peers.

Four of Cups “Some people just won’t take ‘no’ for an answer.” So we keep ignoring their offers. That’s Four of Cups, and that’s its illustration for all to see. four of Cups most often says a simple negative (so it’s a negator card) like: does not, not, don’t, it won’t, ain’t, can’t, un-, neither/nor. And sometimes the simple negative carries an extra word in it: isn’t going to; say ‘no’; but I’m not doing it; no way; stop; aren’t for now; so don’t. Words to the same affect also belong to Four of Cups, words like: aversion, declines, turns it down.

.

Four of Cups also refuses to get involved with phrases like these: refuse to get involved in; not have anything to do with; you don’t want anything to do with it; you can’t do anything about it.

.

Other situations, and their phrases, that pertain to Four of Cups’ simple refusals are like these examples: don’t let anyone

avoid; won’t believe; and I won’t believe it; is not subject to; it’s just not done.

.

And that’s all Four of Cups has to say today. As you can see, he doesn’t like to talk.

Seven of Swords Seven of Swords expresses the distinction between a hero and a terrorist, between pulling off a shenanigan and ripping someone off. Our hero-terrorist is pulling off the shenanigan of ripping the enemy, the competition, off of its weapons. Perspective is everything: Some people’s fun is hurting other people.

.

Mr. Seven of Swords is stealing, so Seven of Swords is a main card for crime and criminals, for theft and violation of trust, for being a thug.

.

Seven of Swords is also from the perspective of its victims. Here it gathers words like: mess with; cutthroat competition; insecure situation;; sabotage; undercut; hurt you; double-cross you; being taken away from me. Seven of Swords says ‘sleazy’ and ‘shady’ from a bystander’s or victim’s perspective too.

Lots of words come from Seven of Swords about taking chances, risk, and reckless adventure. Here are some of them: get away with it, reckless, risk, dare to, it’s a long shot, misbehavin’, cheat, speculative, adventure, taking chances, pull off that slick trick; that bad-boy; get the nerve; high-risk; it’s too high a risk; cutting corners.

Two of Wands You know the type: He isn’t just financially secure or well off. He doesn’t just own the town; he owns the world. His investments have paid off, and he is a success, so ‘investment’ and ‘success’ belong in Two of Wands’ lexicon. But Two of Wands expresses YOU when YOU own YOUR world too. Same feeling – close, anyway. The feeling you can now confidently plan for what you want.

.

Mr. Two of Wands is planning on how to wrest even more profit from his land holdings: Thank landlord … land lord. So Two of Wands is all about profit. For all this glory, though, most often this Two of Wands mogul simply contributes future tense, or words about the future (will; will be; going to, plan ahead, future), to your spread.

.

Two of Wands combines money and real estate, and it is financial security, money in the bank … so this is the lead card for mortgage, pension, bank and banker, and bank loans generally. Two of Wands is the Establishment, the moneyed people. That expands to being a sure thing, and Two of Wands will translate ‘for sure’ and ‘a sure thing.’

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

                   LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES

…………..…………. …………………….

Random distribution is often puzzles me. Nine of Cups showed up in a streak, mostly as the second card, for a while. Seven of Swords is one of those ‘almost never shows up‘ Tarot citizens because of its meaning (which is a good indication Tarot isn’t just random, that something is driving it). Here we have Seven of Swords the very next day, and in the same spot – the second card. Hmm.

.

As I have explained, when you have a ‘bad’ card like Seven of Swords, first thing you do is look around for a rescue card and/or a negator card. (Regular visitors know what I mean.) Four of Cups is a negator card: It belongs to the no/never/not/ Tarot tribe. Two of Wands indicates all is well in the long run, so it’s close-enough to a rescue card.

.

Four of Cups is to not accept or not do. Seven of Swords is a wrongdoing, a risk, a dare, guts. Two of Wands is the future tense ( will – often), a plan, and profitable. These three cards most often are saying: Don’t risk your future, and don’t be taking risks. That’s the main message of these three cards, but they have a lot more to say than that.

.

. … Four of Cups and Seven of Swords combine ‘ don’t’ words with ‘ taking a chance’ words, and therefore have a lot of risk- averse advice like: avoid risk; don’t dare; it’s a long shot, it won’t; don’t misbehave; don’t let anyone mess with; don’t get involved in something shady; have the guts to say ‘ no’; not cheat; declines risk; not doing the crime; not sabotage; decline because it’s a sham; stop the violation of fiduciary duties; not taking any chances; doesn’t pull off that slick trick; don’t have anything to do with that bad-boy; stopped the theft; not subject to it being taken; get the nerve to say ‘ no’; risk aversion; high-risk isn’t for now; cutting corners just isn’t done; it’s sleazy, you don’t want anything to do with it; you can’t do anything about the thugs.

.

. .. Four of Cups and Two of Wands combine the future, or future tense, with a negative, so remember they say ‘ will not’ and ‘ won’t be‘ [ will not be], not going to,’ and ‘ will say ‘no,’ and similar phrases. they say ‘ No plan to.’ or ‘ un planned.’ They say ‘ refuse to get involved.’ And they say things like ‘ Don’t let anyone (fill in the blank) your future.’

.

. .. Four of Cups and Two of Wands also combine a negative with pay’ because Two of Wands is ‘ a money card.’ So you have: no pay; won’t pay; won’t make money; not for that amount of money; not financially secure; not profitable, and so on. They could even say ‘ no mortgage’ because Two of Wands is a real estate and banking card.

.

Two of Wands is doing business and is a company, so this pair of Rider Waite cards may say: don’t do business with; refuse to get involved in the business; no way is this business going to; in the business of avoiding (whatever); not a business; a company to be avoided.

.

Two of Wands is about success, so Four of Cups chimes in with ‘ not going to succeed,’ using Two of Wands’ future tense ability.

.

Two of Wands means established, and means a sure thing. When Four of Cups as a negator blends with it, it’s either NOT a sure thing, or it’s a sure thing and you can’t do anything about it, or it’s a sure thing and not (fill in another card’s meaning). The ‘ not’ is Four of Cups’ contribution.

.

Two of Wands is a pension or bank account or other financial asset. Today we have ‘ Decline the pension’ and ‘ The bank turns it down.’

.

. .. This pair, I had to dig to get sentences for. They combine sabotage with a good future, and say odd expressions like ‘ reckless conservative’ and ‘ it’s a long shot, i t will make money.’ They say t he pension plan is a sham and the bank account is unsecure, and crime will pay, and planning ahead will hurt you, and financially secure because of sabotage. They say the bank robs you and it’s a sleazy company, that thugs are established here. And the good news is: You pull off that slick trick you are planning.

.

. .. But Seven of Swords and Two of Wands also have some good solid news. . .. Dare, and you have the world in your hands.

. ……. ….. …     …. ..

AND NOW WITHOUT THE PICTURES:

.

Random distribution is often puzzling. Nine of Cups showed up in a streak, mostly as the second card, for a while. .

Four of Cups and Two of Wands also combine a negative with ‘pay’ because Two of Wands is ‘a money card.’ So you have: no pay; won’t pay; won’t make money; not for that amount of money; not financially secure; not profitable, and so on. Two of Wands is a pension or bank account or other financial asset. Today we have ‘Decline the pension’ and ‘The bank turns it down.’

.

. .. This pair, I had to dig to get sentences for. They combine sabotage with a good future, and say odd expressions like ‘reckless conservative’ and ‘it’s a long shot, it will make money.’ They say the pension plan is a sham and the bank account is unsecure, and crime will pay, and planning ahead will hurt you, and financially secure because of sabotage. They say the bank robs you and it’s a sleazy company, that thugs are established here. And the good news is: You pull off that slick trick you are planning.

A financial guru says that a main factor that differentiates a winning portfolio (You can retire and keep living as you are.) from a losing portfolio (Your retirement is menial.) is not so much picking all the right stocks as in avoiding all the wrong stocks. The sexier a stock is, the more it’s courted, said he, the less you are going to make. We are looking at our lives that way today; we are avoiding risk and not letting anyone mess with our future.

Ten of Cups “One big happy family” is a slogan for Ten of Cups.

.

Everybody who counts belongs to Ten of Cups – the public, the neighbors you can live with, good people, the straights, your family, your friends, the in crowd, even the good neighborhood. People you know, like, and trust – or people you approve of at least. Ten of Cups actually translates ‘everybody’ often. Think ‘the well-adjusted people,’ but that’s an odious term.

.

Ten of Cups is one of three marriage cards in Tarot Verbatim™, and its focus on marriage is positive. It translates ‘marriage’ and ‘marry’ frequently (and ‘spouse’), and it means happily married and married with children as well. Ten of Cups is also the good relationship, the couple who feels they are a couple. And apart from all that, Ten of Cups means ‘happy.’

.

Ten of Cups is also prosperity: living well. You see ‘the American Dream’ (may it rest in peace) here: nice house in the suburbs, a boy and a girl child who get along together … even a rainbow over the house, in case you missed the point. So Ten of Cups (like Ace of Pentacles) equates living well with being a good person. Us good guys live in this-here good neighborhood, and that’s that. So Ten of Cups often says ‘happy,’ and ‘happily ever after.’ (You find Ten of Cups referring to ‘what makes (whoever/whatever) happy.’)

.

In Tarot Verbatim™ the marriage cards expand to any size group of people with interests, traits, or characteristics in common. Ten of Cups and Four of Wands are about the ‘good’ people (well-adjusted, civilized, play-by-the-rules people), and Ten of Pentacles are the ‘people who are a problem or who have a problem.’ Ten of Cups’ part in the grouplife set of meanings refers to neighborhood,, community and community or public life, and, well, moral majority, clean, in-crowd type folks, subjects, and organizations. For example, Ten of Cups may appear as the church crowd. It also refers to ‘peers,’ in which case it may not address its usual set of clean-cut humans.

.

Do note that the answers to individual Tarot inquiries are in the perspective of the Querant; so if you’re reading for a jailbird, Ten of Cups will represent this person’s view of who the accepted people are. And the same for reading for a stoic: That person would populate Ten of Cups far more sparsely than its average range is.

Seven of Swords Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to enter the competition’s camp and make off with its tools. Mr. Seven of Swords is a daredevil who dresses in red and goes bare-handed and barefoot (er, sock feet) into enemy camp in midday and makes off with their best weapons, carrying those heavy double-blades in his bare hands as he hotfoots it outta there. Keep in mind that this card can refer to self-destructive acts, and specifically to self-destructive acts designed to out-do or undercut a competitor. Seven of Swords will appear for a self-destructive person too.

.

Keep in mind that Seven of Swords has two faces or two applications, so there’s a distinction to be made as you look at your spread. First, Seven of Swords is daredevil, derring-do, adventure. Words for this today are: adventuresome; walk on the wild side; dangerous; taking a chance; no matter what; you outsmarted; he pulled it off; had the nerve; to pull of this shenanigan; you get away with it. That ‘no matter what’ is the feeling you get when you decide, by god, you are gonna (whatever): resolve, grim determination.

.

And Seven of Swords is risk, generically: risks (whatever) for illicit (whatever); risking, so bad will risk it all; a long shot; goes to any lengths; no matter what.

.

And Seven of Swords is about cheating, violating the rules, turning against, violating a person’s trust or someone’s defenses, double-cross, and general reckless disregard for what’s expected. We say ‘crossed the line’ with a certain tone of voice for this concept.

.

The other face of Seven of Swords is more heinous, no longer social approbation (disapproval) but actual criminal activity or activity so against the social norm that it (and the person who did it) is condemned. Beyond-the-pale stuff. Words for that today are: criminal, suspicious character, thief, robbing, black sheep, bad guy, stolen property. Because the crime depicted here is thievery, Seven of Swords represents what is stolen as well as who stole it: ‘stolen property,’ a legal term; loot (and slang words that mean ‘loot’).

.

But Seven of Swords represents any given crime, especially assault and murder. And this is the card for mercenaries, black ops, organized thuggery of any sort.

.

Once in a while Seven of Swords will represent the crisis itself.

Nine of Cups – Think of Nine of Cups as Thanksgiving Dinner, the safunsified feeling you have after you ate the whole thing. Nine of Cups is being happy and satisfied, having it all, wanting something (even wanting it all, greed). And Nine of Cups is the feeling you have after that meal: the pleasure of consumption; enjoying a good profit; the satisfaction of having what you want, having it your way. Nine of Cups’ song is ‘I did it my way.’

.

Nine of Cups represents being rich, and here are those phrases from our sentences: can live well; you profit from; it’s worth it to them; get rich; rich people; better off; my good life; the loot; paid off; a profit.

.

But Nine of Cups isn’t always about having what you want; it’s about the wanting. Even then, Nine of Cups is wanting what it’s likely to get; it’s not longing after what isn’t reachable. Here are the ‘want’ phrases for today: whatever you want; to get what I want; wants to be; we choose to be; prefer; you like most; you do it your way; I like the best; really want to be; just like we wanted him to; who really wants to be; want to (whatever) and still be (whatever).

.

Remember this about Nine of Cups: Although we think of it as meaning ‘having it all’ or ‘having what you want,’ it also applies as having enough and being happy with that, and it also applies as greed and excess – having too much. So Nine of Cups is the Goldilocks of prosperity.

…………..…………. …………………….

Here’s a picture of human life: Wanting (Nine of Cups) to be a member of the herd in good standing (Ten of Cups), and willing to compromise or chance that (Seven of Swords) for something else you also want (Nine of Cups). Ten of Cups is the community; Nine of Cups is having it all; Seven of Swords is taking what’s not yours. Today’s spread is a study of Seven of Swords, its spectrum. After reading today, you should no longer live in dread of this Seven landing in your spreads.

.

Living well is found in the lexicons of both the Ten and the Nine of Cups. You could think of Nine of Cups as one person who ‘ has it all’ and is satisfied with his/her life; you could think of Ten of Cups as two or more people who are in that same boat with that same gratified feeling.

.

….. . Ten of Cups and Seven of Swords contrasts upright people with criminals, and juxtaposes *something everyone considers normal and okay* with something risque, dangerous, or dastardly. Examples for today of these ‘strange-bedfellow’ pairings are: risks a good marriage; cheats on his spouse; a criminal is a good guy; thief in the family; criminal accepted by peers; good people get away with; happy no matter what; friends turn against you;neighborhood is dangerous; friends are suspicious characters; criminals in public life; the black sheep of the family; one of the straight people pulls off a shenanigan.

….. . Ten of Cups and Nine of Cups are reflections of one another, in that Ten of Cups is two or more people feeling just as Nine of Cups by himself does: happy, satisfied, things are going my way. These two Tarot cards are in the same glad emotional groove. Their phrases in their today-sentences say upbeat slogans like these: a good marriage for pleasure; everybody can live well; his spouse gives him satisfaction; is a good guy if he profits; our family likes it like that; accepted by peers and enjoys his life; people who feel good about themselves; be one of the good people and have whatever you want; I am one of those people who gets what I want; people get rich; we are all better off; wants to be married; choose to be happy; the neighborhood you like most, friends I like best; good life was hanging out; profit made from the house; really wants to be one of the good guys; glad I got married and have kids like everyone else (This sentence uses three meanings of Ten of Cups, note!); want to be one of the straight people.

.

... . .. Seven of Swords and Nine of Cups combine all those good feelings and all that profit Nine of Cups speaks of with the hijinks and criminality of Seven of Swords. Forbidden thrills! Think of it as getting away with whatever you want. There’s something perverse, often, when these two make phrase music together.
