Tarot Readings for You for October 22-23, 2016 Weekend©

GUIDANCE        Seasickness is caused when the brain gets one impression from direct experience where the body is standing (which is rocking), and quite another impression of the distant view (which is stationary). We describe a similar sensation when the brain gets one impression from direct experience (the official, wavy, story) and quite another impression from the landscape we have trusted as a foundation all this time.

Hanged Man The strange illustration here depicts what ‘awakening’ feels like, what suddenly realizing something … something that you knew all along? … feels like. It covers psychic impressions, and it covers that ‘lipstick on the collar’ moment, and it covers that ‘coulda had a V8′ moment. Anything like that. Insight, intuition, visionary revelations about stuff. Hanged Man is when your subconscious zaps your physical awareness with one of its own. And your subconscious inhabits a different world from your conscious. Here, they are being introduced to one another. Hanged Man is unique.

.

Here are the phrases it makes today, which will give you a feel for the Hanged Man applications: an open mind

Seven of Pentacles – Seven of Pentacles is when you simply don’t know and there’s some reason you can’t know right now. (Watch for it to tell you that your question doesn’t yet have an answer!) What you see in this illustration is a fellow who planted and watered and pulled weeds for his cucumber plants, but planted only a few. It’s a gendered plant, so if there’s no opposite-gender cucumber plant nearby for a bee to visit both – no cucumbers for him.

.

Seven of Pentacles’ special meaning reflects having done everything you can, and the outcome is unknown and unknowable for the moment. It can be advice to quit worrying and wondering, but mostly it describes the worrying and wondering.

.

Seven of Pentacles is one of the ‘Duh’ cards. (You won’t find this idea anyplace else but here, it’s Emily’s.) Seven of Pentacles is one of the cards that asks questions, and often turns your sentence into a question. It often translates ‘maybe,’ and the word ‘question’ both as noun and verb. It also often translates ‘I think.’ (The ‘think’ tribe of meanings is a well-populated one in Tarot Verbatim™.)

.

And yes, watch it come up for questions about plants, even house plants.

Hierophant Hierophant is a complex card whose illustration doesn’t divulge much. Let’s go into the illustration. This is the pope. (I notice the artist of Rider Waite Tarot, Pamela Coleman Smith, often puts red garments to indicate religious topics, such as the pilgrim in Eight of Cups. I searched for when a pope would wear red, and no red robes were mentioned.) The pope is doing a ritual physically in the real-world with his fellow-religious, his helpers. This is what he usually does, and it’s a public testament, and it celebrates or expresses a mindset that is established.

.

This idea of what is accepted, mainstream, usual, respectable, routine, harmless, supposed to be and ought to be, and a mindset belongs to Hierophant. So does anything at least halfway-positive about religion. Hierophant means ‘right’ and ‘correct’ right up there with Justice and Ace of Pentacles.

.

Hierophant emphasizes the conscious and physical side of things. It translates both of those words. It means ‘real’ and ‘real-world,’ and ‘things as they actually are.’ It also indicates official possession, and ‘the paper thing’ – certificates, licenses, titles, names. It also refers to being entitled.

.

As the main card for ‘things as they are,’ Hierophant also indicates being in a rut. And it can express the counterculture concept of the Establishment (working for The Man, etc.).

Here we are with revelation and insight on the left, Hanged Man, and what’s supposed to be the way things are (official reality), Hierophant, on the right. And here we are in the middle as Seven of Pentacles, puzzling and doubting.

Other cards, single ones even, say ‘Things are not what they seem,’ but these three Tarot cards are suggesting balancing your inspired thought with the evidence accepted by, shall we say, most people?

Two of Pentacles Juggling is a consistent effort to keep things moving, over and over again, time after time, turn after turn, one after another, in a steady process that goes on for a while. A juggler keeps at it.

.

Ships tossing on the waves behind the juggler give us the opposite meanings to the concept of a continuing process: They are as unstable as the juggler’s steady movements are stable. This Two of Pentacles card, therefore, has opposite meanings we have to live with and use creatively.

.

Two of Pentacles is, therefore, a situation that could go either way as well as a steady effort to keep that situation going the same way. That is today’s story. Two of Pentacles represents the process itself – any process.

.

Phrases like ‘each time, ‘one more time,’ and next time,’ ‘yet another,’ ‘over and over’ also are delivered by Two of Pentacles. It also owns cycles and things cyclic.

.

Two of Pentacles belongs to the instability theme due to those ships. ‘Maybe’ is a frequent translate for instability cards. Today it says ‘an unstable guy’ too.

.

Two of Pentacles is movement, obviously, and it will translate all sorts of movements applied to all kinds of things. Today, for example, Two of Pentacles is rocking the boat; it stirs up; and it even gets dizzy.

(Two of Pentacles is not being silly today.)

Seven of Wands –  Here you are minding your own business and the fire alarm goes off just as your mooch starts another tirade about another benefit. Pressure and stress. The big challenge. Preventing something worse from happening. Seven of Wands is that ‘up to my butt in alligators’ emergency phase we all encounter, especially the kind of alligators that trespass on your space to occupy you, and you have to drop whatever you are doing to put out the fire. But Seven of Wands represents the flip side of that situation too – the time when you are the demanding defender of your space, the ‘mad as hell and won’t take that anymore’ moments. So Seven of Wands is about confronting and being confronted, resisting and being resisted, being the buttinski or putting up with one.

.

Seven of Wands is pushing yourself, is ‘giving it everything you’ve got,’ is that big effort that can get you over the hump. Seven of Wands is engaging in that ‘I’ve GOT to do it’ project.

.

Mr. Seven of Wands is outnumbered by those invading neighbors, but is expected to win this fight against the odds. And yes, Seven of Wands is a fight/struggle/defend theme card. There are times people do try to take another’s real estate (foreclosure, eminent domain, for instance). Seven of Wands is the card for that struggle, and the card for trespass in general.

Tower The illustration is the Tower of Babel, an event that appears in the earliest histories of quite a few civilizations. This very first tall building was an attempt to preserve the unity of all people as their numbers spread them out over a distance that was separating them, and causing language to change so that communication was strained. God didn’t like the United Nations idea, and down the building went, not to be rebuilt. This drama made a huge impression upon people of its time. So Tower represents a dramatic change as well as a dramatic confrontation. It also represents rage: God was mad. And Tower is your card for a temper fit.

.

So Tower is destruction, bursting, breaking, blowing up, falling down … including bursting through and a breakthrough, and even being thrown out (say, of the house, or of a meeting). In the Bible recount, the Tower was evil because it was seen as a rebellion against God … ‘man’s pride’ being a very bad thing. Tower is overthrow, especially a comeuppance sort of overthrow, in which the bad guy or bad thing ‘gets it.’ A common title for this card (across different decks) is ‘Destruction of Evil.’

.

The suddenness of the event in Tower’s illustration makes ‘sudden’ a very frequent translate of Tower, along with: unexpected, immediately, instantly, emergency, blowback, and backfires. And Tower is about a sudden end (often dramatic), which is how Tower becomes a divorce, breaking up, quitting, getting fired Tarot card.

.

Any sort of explosion obviously belongs to this Tower card, which includes discharging a firearm of any sort. Tarot can differentiate between weapons in questions about assault, and this one says it’s a firearm. (Naturally, grenades and bombs belong to Tower too.) Speaking of assault, it’s obvious Tower means to hit, to strike, a blow, etc.

.

There are some other meanings to Tower but these are the common ones. I mean, lightning strikes, a thought strikes, a volcano erupts, there’s a short circuit, Fourth of July fireworks, etc.

.

.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

.. ….. …      ..

.

Seven of Wands and Tower are each emergency situations. Together, they are a very dramatic assault or confrontation in which something or someone is overthrown and/or destroyed. They describe a rebellion or uprising, and they describe a dramatic confrontational parting of the ways: divorce, quitting, getting fired, getting thrown out. They also describe a demanding pushy person’s major temper fit.

.

Other stories Seven of Wands and Tower tell are about the effort behind (Seven of Wands) a major breakthrough (Tower); being confronted (Seven of Wands) and making a point that debunks (Tower); being forced (Seven of Wands) to quit or to fire someone (Tower); and just having a breakdown (Tower) under the stress of it all (Seven of Wands); the effort it takes (Seven of Wands) to quit something (Tower); being forced, under pressure (Seven of Wands) to quit (Tower); having to, any way you can (Seven of Wands with a little help from his Two of Pentacles friend) break (Tower) the cycle (Two of Pentacles).

.

Two of Pentacles just says it’s ongoing, and that it could go either way. He is a bystander in today’s main stories. But Two of Pentacles also lends that steady effort to the hard effort that Seven of Wands is making. That’s where we get ‘Keep pushing until you break through.’

.

Two of Pentacles also serves to designate Seven of Wands’ behavior as unstable or just pushy in some of our one-sentence readings. That’s because Seven of Wands can be the mouthy demanding person, and Two of Pentacles brings out the goofiness of that end of his spectrum.

Quite often we have to do the same thing over and over before there’s an effect. Sometimes that’s a good thing, and sometimes it’s a nasty surprise. He keeps rocking the boat until over it goes, or a breakthrough requires keeping up the effort for a while. We look at all sorts of ways this process … and it is a process … applies. It’s like pushing that vehicle out of where it’s stuck, hacking away at a tree until it falls over, or keep pumping until it flushes. It’s like doing something challenging enough times that it’s now an easy routine.

Guidance

An inner struggle that changes who I am arises from a real-world battle with something or someone(s). A shift in the way I think, therefore, is forced on me … but it was my idea all along. Did I put myself in harm’s way so I would have to change? The change has already happened, and I am already that new me as I speculate on what I faced back there on the railroad tracks.

Could This Be You?

Picture this: You look at the cards in your spread.
You immediately get an idea because you know a few of them intimately.
AND you know a system that works because you have had a few

Here Tarot is talking to you: These sentences express word-for-word, verbatim, the meanings of those three Tarot cards. LEARN TAROT CARDS BY PICTURES Are you ready to begin learning Tarot Verbatim™? Here your in-depth meanings come alive for each of the three cards! In Tarot Verbatim™, pictures make the meaning, so each card is like a person you know and remember.

WITHOUT THE PICTURES For the true seeker of Tarot knowledge, here is what you need to know about how the three cards in today’s spread affect one another, and how to apply Tarot Verbatim™. Here too the cards come alive, together.

WHERE EACH PHRASE COMES FROM At a glance, with a color for each card, your subconscious picks up on how the sentences of GROUP TAROT CARDS READING came to be. You feel how individual card meanings reach out and blend, unite, into a sentence. (You can learn this – yes, you!) Your subconscious awareness sees the image and its feeling and your conscious awareness sees the language meaning, the text… so your two minds focus together to see 3D, three dimensionally, the same way your two eyes see depth that one eye does not.

PHRASES FOR ALL THREE TWO CARD COMBINATIONS Are you ready for the final step of this revolutionary Tarot Verbatim™ technique? Now to make it exceedingly plain and simple, we list the expressions each pair of cards makes. We list them in paragraph form rather than itemized so that they flow, and your subconscious clicks into place and ‘gets it.’ You may even find flashes of dreams or intuitive realities as you read these, at times.

The Rider Waite Tarot™ deck is a data bank in mass consciousness that your subconscious can communicate with. Tarot Verbatim™ is the Rosetta Stone that makes that communication easy because it is a bridge between conscious and subconscious thought. When both your levels of awareness focus together, you think intuitively in real time in ‘the real world.’

Bon voyage!

Synopsis

We are not who we would have chosen to be, because – for one thing – of unexpected challenges we faced. Learning things, and passing the how-to onto others, may not be conscious choices for some of us. Once you learn how to fight or how to not fight, for example, you tend to stay on that course. These factors that formed us are good, bad, and in between. Today we are examining this process, revisiting the scenes of the turns, and … now that we think about this … taking neither a lot of credit nor a lot of blame.

Seven of Wands

Seven of Wands

Seven of Wands defends himself in the struggle against neighbors who invade his place to take it by surprise – defends his position against them all, against all the odds.  It’s difficult but he is aggressive enough to make himself do it. Seven of Wands is up to the challenge. This card has two faces, one of which we ignore here. That’s the pushy mooch, the mouthy teenager-type. Today we are all about facing a challenge, rising to the occasion of breaking through, insisting upon, standing up for, a struggle, and being radically against or being radically for.

Judgement

Judgment

The words for Judgment come from its illustration, of course. A sudden change, one more time, a raise, a new (anything), a new life, what’s next, hearing, big news, an announcement or a call or speak or talk, an awakening, a whole new (whatever): All of these words arise from recovering from being dead when the angel’s horn awakens you.

.

Page of Pentacles

Page of Pentacles

Page of Pentacles is one of the identity cards, similar to Page of Wands. They both mean – literally ‘ ‘type of person.’ Pages are young people starting out in life as apprentices, looking for where they fit in. This fellow studies that pentacle, which makes him a student, makes him about self-image and self-examination – identity. He thinks – his main application; he feels; he is (whatever the other cards say). He is all about conscious thought. So much so that Page of Pentacles translates ‘idea’ and ‘opinion.’

Page of Pentacles often just translates pronouns, especially ‘he’ or ‘him,’ ‘I’ or ‘me’ and pronouns ending in ‘self.’

Now Without The Pictures

Seven of Wands and Judgment each have several flexible applications and several meanings, so together they perform a symphony. Aiding their music is Page of Pentacles standing by in the background softly with its few notes that tend to harmonize with any theme equally well. These three cards get along with one another very well; they don’t get in one another’s way.

At a glance, you see in this spread: Breaking through your blocks, both personal (Page of Pentacles) and circumstantial (Seven of Wands).

Judgment is breakthrough or breaking through

Seven of Wands is the block

Page of Pentacles is the personal.

*Judgment and Page of Pentacles both realize, both are aware:

*Judgment is newly aware and Page of Pentacles knows it already.

*Page of Pentacles is the conscious thought; Judgment is a shift or change in that thought.

*Page of Pentacles is a person; Judgment is a changed person, or at least the change in the person.

Page of Pentacles is one of those cards that means: think, ponder, consider, perspective, opinion, view, etc.

As an identity card, Page of Pentacles is ‘type of person’ without saying in itself what type: Page of Pentacles is ready to be painted by nearby neighbor cards – but, without such input, Page of Pentacles, like brother Page of Wands, is well-intentioned, is a good person or good guy. Both Pages are apprentices, because that is what a Page was in feudal society, but Page of Pentacles in particular is a student, probably because he is studying that pentacle.

Page of Pentacles can combine its meaning of ‘type of person’ with its meaning of ‘to think or consider,’ and come up with considering himself to be some particular type of person, or seeing another person as a particular type. Page of Pentacles even means ‘self’ as in myself, himself or herself, and it means ‘personal.’ This is one of the cards that can mean different pronouns, including ‘I’.

People awakening from death naturally gives Judgment meanings like new consciousness, new level of awareness, new life, new phase. The recovery from death lends Judgment any kind of recovery, rejuvenation, restoration, re-do, revival … almost any word beginning in the ‘re- meaning.

Recovering from death is a second time around, and Judgment does mean ‘next’ and ‘again’ (and such words). So, curiously, Judgment is a new start, and is also the second time around, the next time.

Note that there are a number of Rider Waite Tarot cards that mean ‘again.’

Seven of Wands plays quite a few notes, quite a few roles, in our one-sentence readings.

Tarot Readings for You for September 7, 2015 Monday©

GUIDANCE     What’s a nice person like me doing in a place like THIS?, we ask, looking around. We let ourselves be identified with the family, the clan, the relatives, and other circles we find ourselves in as the fit becomes more and more uncomfortable. Maybe we have outgrown it. Today, we are about the times we aren’t ‘one of those people’ anymore. Sometimes the Declaration of Independence turns into a War of Independence. (You’re not allowed to talk about that in pubic, you know.)

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

                LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES..

………..………… gggggWell, I lied. I said I would spare myself a Monday blog, but it’s only Saturday so I will revisit the carnage, the blood on the floor. Maybe that’s the explanation for this spread? – that, and the fact that I just HAD to remark that we could be adding to the theme of dysfunctional people. Yeah. Ten of Pentacles is the poster child for dysfunctional people. And we just HAVE to have not one but two cards of confrontation – one of which is also hissyfit, rejection and divorce. I should have kept my mouth … er, fingers … shut.

Both Seven of Wands and Tower are an all-out gut-wrenching confrontation. Seven of Wands is that ‘Mad as hell and won’t take it anymore/Gimme the car keys’ stance – both the mooch’s entitlement rage, and the defense against it. Pair that with Tower, the grand mal tantrum, and you have over-the-top drama. You also easily have property damage and personal injury, easily.

And the other card, the setting for this scene? – none other than Ten of Pentacles, maximum social dysfunction itself. Ten of Pentacles is to family and social life what Moon is to life in general, ‘maximum fuckedupness.’

The good part of our spread is that things have gone so far in our scene that a gut-wrenching blowout clears the air. Also, the defective-unit person gets a comeuppance in several of these one-sentence readings.

.

.

GET A SINGLE CARD’S MEANINGS: TYPE ITS NAME AND ‘TAROT VERBATIM’ INTO GOOGLE.

Ten of Pentacles is the family structure strained, the dysfunctional clan, relatives, neighborhood, city, county, state, nation, world … all the disparate elements thrown together, composed of people who believe they have something in common and are willing to fight about it. Ten of Pentacles is your family reunion with your in-laws. It’s also the backbiting work place and the political systems. (Nice to know, there are two positive cards that mean these same stair-steps of human relations.)

You see a tense family confrontation. The head of the clan has set Husband loose on Wife, probably about another grandchild before the current one is out of the squalling brat stage.

Seven of Wands is the black sheep, the mouthy one, the entitlements some blood relations feel they have with whoever will listen. It’s limited to that today, but Seven of Wands is right at home in the dysfunctional family, work place, neighborhood … and world. He is being pushy (see picture) about his entitlements – is raising hell. Seven of Wands is about a confrontation; so is Tower.

Tower is the natural consequence of a strained family or social-group situation and an antagonizing in-your-face or demanding person: It blows up. A direct confrontation clears the air. Tower is divorce, quit, fired – as well as destroy, break, knock over, and hit. Tower is the confrontation promised in Ten-of- Pentacles-followed-by-Seven-of-Wands: festering rivalries and simmering resentments erupt.

.

.

Once we move out, and don’t have to deal with it in person, we are restrained about the twisted situation back home. It’s that ceremonial dinner, or it’s that family reunion (Who invented those?) that sets off the tremor on the Richter scale. And what a tremor such a petty scene can bring.

.

Tarot Readings for You for August 13, 2015 Thursday

GUIDANCE   You got an out-of-control situation on your hands. On a good day you have either already prevented it or you are vacuuming up the pieces and putting things back. On a not-so-good day, it gets to you and you are overwhelmed. Today, you are the one who wades into the mess and is picking up the pieces and putting the puzzle back together. It’s all (or almost all) about the mentality, the attitude. Muggers pass you by when you are in the mood to fight – ever notice that? Confidence you can handle something is almost the whole battle. So be ready, as the Boy Scouts suggest.

Seven of Wands – Seven of Cups – Strength

.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING and

             LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES

………………. .……..…….. Today we are in the circus as the chaos-tamer, demon tamer if you will. All three cards are about confrontation. Seven of Cups is faced with a panic, a situation out of control. Seven of Wands is being intruded upon and/or is intruding upon – the lions are facing him, as he faces them. Strength is the lion-tamer expertly handling that situation, used to it, not breaking a sweat.

Both Strength and Seven of Cups can be about spiritual combat, about how spirits can overwhelm or can provide a strengthening victory when overcome. So we are talking about an internal struggle or confrontation as well as a nasty-surprise event.

Seven of Wands and Strength are both defending themselves … except Strength saw it coming and got started earlier (most of the time). Seven of Wands is taken by surprise but is expected to win (Remember that!); Strength is proactive, and her demon is purring. Seven of Wands is overwhelmed, but Strength has overwhelmed. Seven of Wands can be either in offense mode or defense mode. Seven of Wands can be a pushy person, or a person who is being pushed around. Strength, on the other hand is The Lion Tamer.

Seven of Cups is what happens when you think you know how to handle something and … OOPS! Seven of Cups is getting in over your head … into the deep end of the pool. The illustration suits both Sorcerer’s Apprentice and Pandora’s Box, in which the mischievous spirits are loosed, and the one good one is still trapped. Mind-boggling chaos, confusion, all kinds of things, miscellaneous assortments, scattered debris, a cloud (Watch that – I got this card for the Bhopal disaster.), a melee, the needle in the haystack … or your lost keys. Seven of Cups can be literally spirits out of control, like poltergeists.

Okay. So we have a story of you mastering or finessing an uncontrollable conflict of some sort. Which could be an entirely personal conflict: you facing down your internal conflicts, or your private demons.

.

.

.

GET A SINGLE CARD’S MEANINGS: TYPE ITS NAME AND ‘TAROT VERBATIM’ INTO GOOGLE.

Seven of Wands………. Seven of Wands is a double-edged sword. You have to keep in mind, as you read, that this card is about combat, but can be the defender’s story, or the attacker’s story. It can be the parent telling the kid to ‘pick up his room’ or it can be the kid having a fit and refusing to. It can be the drunk demanding the car keys, or the person trying to keep him from driving. The pushy bastard, or putting up with the pushy bastard.

The picture here is neighbors invading a fellow’s land, to take it. Taken by surprise, he has only one boot on, and is in a nightshirt. Confronted by overwhelming odds, he is expected to win. Seven of Wands shows up in your story for disruption, intrusion, defiance, rude displays, and standing up for yourself during them. Here’s the card for the pushy mouthy punk, the mouthy macho man, the adolescent who wants the world and wants in now, as Jim Morrison said.

Seven of Cups .………. All hell is breaking loose in Seven of Cups time. The gremlins are out in force. The poop is hitting the fan and the debris is all over the neighborhood, complete with a toxic cloud. Out of control and overwhelming outbreak of something-or-another that isn’t good. Or just a lot of unrelated stuff – a mess – the jumbled-together contents of your purse. Sorcerer’s Apprentice or Pandora’s Box, about an infestation of undesirable physical, or non-physical, consequences or influences.

On the other hand, Seven of Cups is just being confused, is brain-fog, is just a mess somewhere, is a lot of unrelated anythings: items, thoughts, elements of a story that don’t add up. It’s also about things lost, including people and animals. I think of it as the needle in the haystack.

What holds together Seven of Cups’ meanings is the panicky taken-aback mood. You could say Seven of Cups is WTF-time. Since it means losing control, pay attention to its neighboring Tarot card: Chariot and Seven of Cups is losing control of the vehicle; Eight of Cups and Seven of Cups is making a wrong turn and getting lost, or even running off the road, potentially.

Strength.…...You could say Strength is about finesse. Strength describes how, when you are a master at handling a particular conflict, you will not encounter it; when you are capable of handling a heckler with your nuclear sense of humor, no hecklers appear. It’s some law of nature: Observe it, and put it to use. It’s the damnedest thing. You could call it the Law of Attraction in reverse if you were a wise-ass.

Strength is you as the person who has the experience and the standing to diplomatically prevent conflict before it occurs, to make the kids (and grownups) behave just by force of your personality.

Strength solves the problem, fixes the situation, quashes the opposition, nips interference and intrusion in the bud, and does it all casually, unnoticed. Strength is the ability to handle, to prevent, disruptions, defiance, or overt attack.

The Strength card makes the point that this kind of character is spiritual maturity. The hallmarks of spiritual maturity in the illustration are her white robe with the flowers on it, the lemniscate (a math sign meaning infinity) over her head as a halo … and of course her bare hands shutting off the roar in the lion’s mouth. Note the lion is purring, is enjoying the encounter: She has converted the enemy, won it over.

.

You can let it get to you, overwhelm you, or you can get to it before it gets to you. You have the ability to claim your right-of-way, and clear the path before you of whatever the obstacles might be. Without drama. The ability is right there in your spiritual life, and that’s what we are talking about today.

.

.

Tarot Readings for You for July 1, 2015 Wednesday©

GUIDANCE     What price peace? Well that partly depends on whether you dread a confrontation, or whether you relish one … at the given moment. Sometimes we sleep through a storm, and sometimes we wake up and slam the window shut. Depends. We are looking at scenarios in which we are deciding, in which we are pondering, whether to let sleeping dogs lie because they wake up snarling. We also remind ourselves to get our rest when we are under this kind of pressure.

Don’t wrangle, just ask ‘Why are you being obnoxious?’

It seems you have to fight for your peace, doesn’t it?

Asking myself ‘Is it worth the scene, or not?’

To confront, or not to confront: That is the question.

Either I overcome it, or I live with it: Which shall it be?

Is it time to have myself a temper tantrum, or not?

He’s so snarly – should I let the sleeping dog lie?

Maybe I would not win the fight with this heathen.

Meditating on whether to defend myself.

Countering the uncertainty that keeps me inactive.

.………..……….

TAROT READINGS: NO FIGHT IN ME (FOUR OF SWORDS AND SEVEN OF WANDS)

I only think about fighting my way out of a situation.

I stay here because I’m not sure how to break out.

It makes me mad but maybe I should put up with it.

When in doubt, don’t shout.

Suppose I just let him be rude.

Why can’t I resist him?

.………..……….

TAROT READINGS: WELL, I AM NOT DOING ANYTHING, AM I? (FOUR OF SWORDS AND SEVEN OF PENTACLES)

Why fight inertia?

What does it take for us to be outraged?

So why aren’t we raising hell?

If I’m ‘mad as hell,’ why am I still ‘taking it’?

How can pacifists be so militant?

Don’t drive yourself crazy wondering.

If you are adamantly against it, don’t do it.

How can I sleep when I am outraged?

Four of Swords – Seven of Pentacles – Seven of Wands

.

.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

             LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES

.………..………. .……..……..We’ve got story. In the center, we are questioning, pondering and wondering with Seven of Pentacles, the pluperfect expert on questioning, pondering and wondering. To the left is not doing that, not engaging or participating – to passively endure without response. To the right is resisting, defending oneself, rising to the occasion of an invasive situation. The three cards together scream: Should I just lie here and take it, or should I do something about it?

Four of Swords.……..Four of Swords is time out. Four of Swords is sleep. Four of Swords is dormant, not acting or reacting, being indifferent, being the couch potato. Four of Swords is vision quest and meditating, too. That’s because this illustration is about the knight candidate ritual. The Page overnighted lying upon his local church’s relic – bones of a saint or hero – meditating until he had a vision of what his life purpose as a knight was. He reported this vision to the bishop, who validated it (or didn’t).

So Four of Swords is not a lead card for death, at all, but is about taking time out for self-examination, for a vision of one’s purpose in life.

In practice, it has many meanings – amazing number of them – that are mostly all about this ‘time out’ phase of life, or about not happening, not doing, not responding (not calling!).

Seven of Pentacles……..Seven of Pentacles is perplexed. He owns ‘maybe’ and ‘wonder’ and ‘what if’ and ‘not knowing’ – owns quite a stable of such phrases. Our grower’s cucumber plants (which are gendered) have reach the size close to bearing, but not quite actual setting fruit. He has no way of knowing whether all his labor will bring him cucumbers. So he leans on his shovel and wonders. This Seven of Pentacles card has that mood, that vibration, to it.

.

Seven of Wands……...Seven of Wands is famous for covering in utter detail all sides of all types of trespasses, any incursion or invasion at all – from the nosy or rude person to assault with intent to kill. As I put it, it’s both ‘Gimme the car keys, and I ain’t gonna buy the gas’ and ‘I’m mad as hell and I won’t take it anymore.’ So we have the demanding entitlement hog, and we have self-defense.

The picture shows neighbors attacking a landowner to take his land. The defender is expected to win in Seven of Wands.

……. ….Seven of Wands and Seven of Pentacles expresses things like: Maybe I should stand up for myself. Is he really going to get in my face? Why is (he) so obnoxious?

.………..….. Seven of Pentacles questions and ponders. Put him next to Four of Swords, which is meditation, particularly meditation on life’s purpose, and you have meditating on whether life has a purpose.

.

.

To engage, or not to engage: That is the question. Either I overcome an obstacle, or I live with it: Which shall it be, at this given moment? Countering the uncertainty that keeps me inactive: When in doubt, I don’t shout, but I am wondering whether it’s a good move to throw a temper tantrum right here and right now.

Tarot Readings for You for June 18, 2015 Thursday©

GUIDANCE………………. I don’t care if it’s good for me: I don’t want it. I don’t care if that’s what’s true; I don’t want to hear it. It’s such a challenge to live simply on my paycheck. It’s my bill, and I don’t wanna pay it. As much as I hate going to the doctor, I need some treatment. And I wise up and pay the fine I protested. I know I deserved what I got, but I’m still mad about it. I hate vegetables! Here’s an elder that gets no respect from me! Why am I paying the bills of this mouthy ingrate, anyway? Today this emotional resistance is what our messages have in common. I have been to each of these places, and it felt so real when I was there …. Now, in the rear view mirror, it looks kinda funny, you know?

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

                     LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES

.………………. .……..…….. What a picture we have here, with sanity and realism, Hermit, in the center of it all; doing what’s right, paying the bills, and getting a paycheck to the left; and refusing and protest to the right – oftentimes, hell-raising irrational protest. These three elements make many stories, and we track some of those today. Six of Pentacles and Hermit are both, in different perspectives, about what is right.

Six of Pentacles.……Six of Pentacles is paying the bills and getting the paycheck. Six of Pentacles is getting the respect you deserve, and giving them the respect they deserve. It is doing the right thing, fair and square, in any kind of exchange at all. Three of Pentacles carries this same exact meaning. Three of Wands also means income and collecting your money. Six of Pentacles also speaks of ‘having a right to.’

The scales of justice in the illustration often bring up fairness issues. The fact the employer is weighing the coins to pay their true value to the workers expands to treating other people right, and doing the right thing. ‘Treating’ people right expands to healing treatments, especially with one of the healing cards aspecting Six of Pentacles – Hermit and Temperance being two such examples.

Six of Pentacles is any sort of exchange. It brings up the following words: allocating, giving, contributing, passing (often germs), expense, market value, and receiving or getting, honoring an obligation, fair price, ‘worth it.’ These exchanges can be anything – hand-to-hand transactions, information, germs, credit for doing something, paying dues, donating, etc. With Hermit here today, an exchange of information or wisdom (counseling, advice, etc.) happens.

The scales of justice put Six of Pentacles in the justice theme, where it can be: being served papers, a legal proceeding or hearing, prosecution, paying a fine, even paying a lawyer. Six of Pentacles – remember this! – can be ‘getting what you deserve’ as either reward or comeuppance (consequence).

Hermit……….Hermit is a many-splendored Tarot card. Every detail of that illustration applies at some time or another. You see a monk who is also a doctor out looking with his lamp on the road at night in the mountains for people to help. Hermit is a doctor, a medic, a paramedic – any kind of health regimen or treatment, including sensible living. Hermit means ‘go to’ as a pedestrian, or as a road trip.

We take only a small slice of Hermit today. Presenting his whole spectrum would confuse our narrow focus today. Mainly, he is being the following: advice, counseling, good advice, wise up, ‘I know,’ I see things as they are, you can see, facts to look at, bringer of truth, what’s right and true – all about knowing, facts, wisdom and truth.

Then we use the sober and honest part of Hermit’s vocabulary: sober, calm him down, sobriety, to sober him up.

Then we have the treatment end of Hermit: I go to the doctor for treatment. And other such things as: looking for … in my old age; living simply, help with; and an honest ….

Seven of Wands……….Seven of Wands is privacy and private property being trespassed upon or invaded. Like Seven of Swords, it’s a combative invasion, and there’s drama. But Seven of Wands is equally applicable to the invader feeling entitled (Gimme the car keys.) and the outnumbered defender expecting to win (Mad as hell; not taking it anymore.) Seven of Wands therefore means otherwise-unrelated concepts as: against the odds; I fight FOR it; in spite of myself; to take a stand.

It’s surprising how varied Seven of Wands’ phrases are. Today, in order of appearance this time, here are its phrases and words: unwelcome; wants no part; no way is he going to; he refuses; resists the attention; he isn’t about to; I don’t want to; as much as I hate to, you are most unwelcome; isn’t about to pay; very much against his principles; I protested; mouthy ingrate; a defense against; he’s disorderly; you are overwhelmed; against the odds; is a challenge; disorderly conduct; mad about it; agitated; I fight for it; in spite of myself; take a stand.

.

Hermit and Seven of Wands present (among many other scenarios) ‘I don’t want help.’ ‘I don’t want to go to rehab or counseling.’ It could also describe the intrusion in personal life of ‘helpers,’ and could describe involuntary (Seven of Wands) treatment. It also is the Cassandra effect: no one wants to hear the truth, the facts, and the bringer of the facts (think Fukushima) is unwelcome. Now see the parallels between ‘unwelcome’ and ‘involuntary.’ Hermit and Seven of Wands also present ‘I know it’s “good for me” but I hate it.’ (We all do that!)

.

.

.

.

We are onto just about anything that gives rise to the ‘get that out of my face’ feeling and reaction – in all its ramifications. We don’t want to be intruded upon, even when we are wrong and in need of enlightenment; even when we owe money and don’t want to pay; even when we feel entitled to something we expect someone else to supply; even when we don’t want to go to the doctor (or the counselor), even when the facts that intrude upon our assumptions are presented; even when we don’t want to eat our vegetables, or take our meds (or vitamins), exercise, drink water, and quit smoking – any and all of those sorts of things. I hear ‘I don’t wanna go to Rehab’ as I type this. We paint this picture in our presentation today, and that’s all we do: just describe the feeling and all the scenarios that provoke the response.

.

.

.

.

Now we show where each of the phrases in each of the sentences comes from:

Tarot Readings for You for June 12, 2015 Friday©

GUIDANCE      We who are understanding types have to thank our abusers and would-be abusers for making life easier to figure out, don’t we? Honest people just don’t get what the horde of mouthy moochers are born knowing, do they? By our bruises we are educated about asserting ourselves not too much and not too little. Another side of our messages today is left over from yesterday – the part about not admitting, not talking about some things we know. We also speak of knowing how to live on a shoestring – admitting that too is being under pressure. We close with snapshots of self-restraint.

……………….………..………..

Queen of Cups – Seven of Wands – Four of Pentacles

.

.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING and

             LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES

.………………..……..…….. Queen of Cups and Four of Pentacles are knowing. Queen of Cups is on the naïve side sometimes, and she is figuring things out; but she means ‘in the know’ as well. (Look at the neighbor cards.)

Four of Pentacles’ lips are sealed, and he has insider knowledge – has even secrets to hide – but he means being in denial as well. (Look at the neighbor cards.) Neither Queen of Cups nor Four of Pentacles are active – just thinking and feeling.

In the middle, we have Seven of Wands on the attack … or defending from an attack of pushiness.

You could say Queen of Cups is thinking about; Seven of Wands is confronting (him); Four of Pentacles, with what she knows and hasn’t (yet) said anything about. We have the Neanderthal getting mad and upset – Seven of Wands of course – that his sweet li’l gal (Queen of Cups of course) is figuring him out … so he restrains himself, gets quiet (Four of Pentacles of course).

Too many stories here. Too many sentences.

Queen of Cups is the understanding woman – often, the woman who understands her man. She is the perfect foil, therefore, for the type of fellow Seven of Wands represents. You can see how a person who is unassertive and understanding would draw a person who is assertive and uncivilized. They make a pair until one of them gets over the game they share.

Queen of Cups is that sweet mama of the cave-man son (Seven of Wands) that she is in denial (Four of Pentacles) about.

You can also see Seven of Wands being up-in-arms about not getting enough of what’s his, because Four of Pentacles is ‘not enough’ and is holding onto what is his in a greedy cheap way.

Queen of Cups……….Queen of Cups is the stereotype blond. (You actually need another card to say ‘dumb blond,’ and we had that a while back here.) Her spectrum turns on degrees of thinking. There’s Queen of Cups being the blonde, the naif. That’s the Queen of Cups who is the loyal wife or girlfriend who believes in her man. There’s Queen of Cups figuring things out. There’s Queen of Cups knowing, which dovetails with High Priestess (and under certain scenarios with Queen of Pentacles and Nine of Pentacles (women who are skilled and knowledgeable).

The court cards (all the noble titles – King, Queen, Knight and Page) are types of people in Tarot Verbatim™ (not hair color … ). These cards expand to apply to the traits that card means … so Queen of Cups can mean ‘thinking’ and ‘being loyal.’ Feel your way into this if you are learning Tarot.

Seven of Wands…………Seven of Wands, more than any other card, exemplifies and demonstrates the fact that each card stands for all sides of actions and attitudes in the stories its illustration tells. Trespassing or being trespassed upon.  Invading turf or defending against that.  Being the one mouthing off, or dealing with the loudmouth.  Remember this flip-side sort of approach: It opens doors in your understanding of Tarot.

Our illustration is about some neighbors getting together to take someone’s land. This happens all the time in the town I live in; I was supposed to have been a victim of it. Small inbred towns anywhere are full of these Tammany Hall tales and Tammany Hall types.

So Seven of Wands, from the perspective of the defender of his land, is self-defense, standing up for your position, being assertive, and being outnumbered in a struggle or fight. Seven of Wands is ‘I’m mad as hell and not going to take it anymore,’ and ‘You can’t do that to me.’

Seven of Wands, from the point of view of the attackers, describes the demanding mooch type, the mouthy adolescent type, the nutcase on the soapbox, the drunk who demands the car keys, etc. Seven of Wands shows the attitude of ‘I’m going to teach you a lesson,’ as well as ‘What’s yours is mine.’ It aptly represents the ‘Get the rich’ attitude we see in propaganda lately in the United States. It is the attitude of a customer who wants his money back and is outraged and indignant.

Four of Pentacles……….Four of Pentacles is when you are tight in the gut. Four of Pentacles is also when you don’t have enough of what it takes, or when you are broke. You are doing without – living ‘on a shoestring.’

Four of Pentacles, you are subdued. You have something to hide, or you are keeping a secret (or a secret is being kept from you).

Four of Pentacles, you are clinging to something or someone,

Four of Pentacles, you are alienated; you are odd man out – excluded from the in-crowd.

Four of Pentacles, you are sulking or you are seething. You are giving someone the silent treatment – or you are getting that silent treatment from someone.

Four of Pentacles can be austerity or it can be the cheapskate. Many books entitle Four of Pentacles ‘the miser,’ obviously because he is grasping his gold.

Four of Pentacles represents all shades of both repression and restraint. Repressing feelings. Feeling inferior. Being broke, or bankrupt, or having such a lost very little is left.

Speaking of that, Four of Pentacles goes hand-in-hand with the ‘loss’ cards like Five of Cups and even Tower (bankruptcy, disaster).

Our protagonist (hero of our story) sits in the middle of the road outside of the town – alienated, holding onto what he has left for dear life, staring ahead numbly.

Not very often Four of Pentacles is hardening yourself against your environment or your circumstances.

.

A flip side is that, if you are the Type A overbearing self-justified enrichment machine, you should eschew (That means avoid like the plague.) those sweet kind loyal harmless believers-in-you that could pass for fodder-on-my-way-up. This spread reminds you how vindictive naifs feel the moment they ‘get it’ about who you really are. Secret enemies of any stripe are a hazard in any occupation, in any situation.

But we present the more common side: that of the under-duress true-believer, the understanding good-guy or good-girl … because you don’t have to be a lady by gender if you are a lady (civilized person) by persuasion. We play the movie of the disillusion that comes from faith in most anything, especially faith in the Type A on the way to glory. Just ask Steven Foster … not the songwriter.

Tarot Readings for You for April 15, 2015 Wednesday©

GUIDANCE      Let’s figure out what the situation is all about, where the problem lies, and get it out of our hair. Inquire before you engage: That’s the suggestion here. The emphasis is on the question, on asking the question, on making sure he’s the devil before you go full-bore attacking him. We discuss being under a bad influence, from making a mistake under pressure to being in jail for disorderly conduct. This is protocol: No one’s getting excited about it … we are cleaning house. Spring cleaning is happening today.

Tarot Readings: Let’s Figure the Problem Out (Devil and Seven of Pentacles)

Let’s figure out how to attack the problem.

So is this person wrongly accused or not?

Let me at your big problem; I will figure it out.

Resolved: To ponder what’s gone all wrong.

Being wrong motivates me to question the situation.

I am taken aback and shaking my head, looking at the dark side.

That’s so wrong, and I am motivated to question it.

Face the music, ponder your dark side.

It’s an ugly situation, and I figure it is coming to a head.

Now that I think of it, the hard part was just standing up for myself.

……………..………………

Tarot Readings: Keeping Bad Things and People Away (Devil and Seven of Wands)

Thinking about being rude to intruders.

Asking how much force you can use to defend yourself.

Figuring out how to keep the bad people off your property.

It seems I let my vice go only so far and no farther.

Now I see what they meant by ‘Resist the devil.’

I think it’s ugly and I wouldn’t want it around here.

I think fighting back is an obligation, myself.

They are considering aggressive treatment for this illness.

I think you are a bad-ass and I want you away from me.

Now that I think of it, I’m mad as hell and I won’t take it anymore.

I figure I’ll be an activist before I’m a pessimist.

The worst is not going to happen here, if it’s up to me.

.……………..………………

Tarot Readings: Looking at Out-of-Control Scenes (Seven of Wands and Seven of Pentacles)

I look at you flying off the handle like that, and it’s a painful experience.

It seems we’ve got this cranky partner who mouths off.

Looks like he is in jail for disorderly conduct.

What makes a person belligerent when he’s drunk?

It looks like I made a mistake under pressure.

Lust got me going there for a while … yeah.

If they’re that defensive, they must be guilty of something.

I figure it would be a mistake to wade into that mess.

I doubt you are going to be overwhelmed by a bad influence.

Maybe it was wrong to ask the question confrontationally.

Devil – Seven of Wands – Seven of Pentacles

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

.

……….…..….….. We have Devil, which is any kind of problem or bad thing, from making a mistake and being wrong to cancer and a felony. It even means an obligation, a foul mood, and attachment of any kind. Definitely NOT an anchor card, and definitely NOT a scary card most of the time, in spite of his scary presentation in Rider Waite. Yes, it has evil meanings too. (Normally [unless the question opens the door] a companion card is necessary to bring out the evil meanings of Devil.) Then we have resisting, not letting something be around you, in Seven of Wands. Seven of Wands, as regular visitors here may remember, is both the attacker and defending from the attack – the intruder and self-defense from it. Then we have the question, the pondering and inquiry into the situation, in Seven of Pentacles. You can see the story line clearly in the meanings of these cards today.

……………….……….Devil, unless companion cards tell you to the contrary, is most likely to be problem, obstacle, mistake, difficulty, a bad feeling (including being ill), a bad influence, a rude or nasty person or situation, ‘the worst.’ Pictured is the traditional old-fashioned mythical concept of Devil in Christianity and in black magic. Today he is flanked by Seven of Wands who is resisting an invasion or intrusion, defending from some threat – which draws out Devil’s ‘bad influence’ spectrum. Seven of Wands with Devil describes engaging your vice in battle, fighting addiction (which isn’t mentioned in the sentences), and even getting some ugly thing out of your face. ‘I don’t want it, it’s bad,’ or ‘I won’t do that, it’s bad.’ In this spread, we are dealing with a disruptive intruder as a problem to be dealt with – several stories along that line. In this spread Devil is applying mainly to the meanings of Seven of Wands: resisting.

……………….……….Seven of Wands, more than any other card, covers all aspects of the situation it pictures. You had best keep in mind, when it pops up in your layout, that it can be the ‘Gimme the car keys’ person; it can be the ‘mad as hell and won’t take it anymore’ person or situation; it can be self-defense, standing up for yourself; it can be being confronted or being the one doing the confronting. Today we feature standing up for yourself, being accused, and resisting an undesirable person or situation. The illustration shows a landowner defending his place from invading neighbors, outnumbered – but he is expected to win the conflict.

……………….……….Seven of Pentacles, as you can see if you scan the “Now we show where each of the phrases in each of the sentences comes from:”section, means a question or inquiry, to wonder, ponder, and think. Seven of Pentacles, as a card with few and defined meanings, is an anchor card – one of those that you glance at first in your layout. Seven of Pentacles is a ‘Duh’ card – Emily’s nomenclature – that creates a question of your sentence, and means to question … or questionable. You see a fellow who has done the labor that would lead to a crop of cucumbers from that plant, but he will not know whether he will get cucumbers because the plant, to produce, has to have a plant of the opposite sex nearby to do so. So he leans upon his shovel and wonders.

We catch ourselves in that moment that we ask ourselves whether it’s time to engage in confronting an issue or not – and what the issue’s nature really is. This reminds me of the adage ‘Don’t shoot until you see the whites of their eyes.’ We determine whether this is something to fight; whether this is the moment for us to fight it; whether we can win right now. We determine these things first because we are realists. Today’s message is for realists and for realism. ‘Let the games begin,’ they said in the Coliseum.

Now we show where each of the phrases in each of the sentences comes from:

Devil………Devil has to have companion cards before it means the heavy end of its spectrum. That is rare. Devil usually means common vices and faults and ill temper, and words that describe the problem, difficulty, obstacle, or bad thing of your story – or bad person, of course. Devil (Watch for this – it isn’t that obvious.) can mean ‘physical’ and ‘attachment.’ The attachment can be a paper clip holding papers together or anything that, well, attaches one thing physically to another – like a tow bar. Devil is disability, handicap, illness or feeling bad like a bad mood. Devil often puts the word ‘wrong’ and the word ‘worst’ in your sentence.

Seven of Wands………….Seven of Wands today is ‘Get that out of my face’ a lot. Sitting between Devil and a question (Seven of Pentacles) today, Seven of Wands is resisting and figuring out some problem or obstacle, although he does appear as a mouthy pushy person too. As I said above, always keep in the back of your mind that this card, above all others, covers all the sides of its street: defense and intrusion, aggressive entitlement and dealing with the mooch. You see a man defending himself against neighbors who want to take what is his. Neighbors who outnumber him, but he will counter the intrusion successfully.

.

Seven of Pentacles………..Seven of Pentacles is one big question mark. I wonder, I think, maybe, I ponder, and so on. Speculation where the outcome is not known. He has no way to know whether his toil in the cucumber patch will be rewarded with a crop. Cucumbers, as a gendered plant, need a co-pollinator nearby in order to produce. Seven of Pentacles in Tarot Verbatim™ is one of the ‘Duh’ cards that means wonder, ponder, don’t know, think, speculate, maybe, if … and invites you, the reader, to put this sentence into a question.

Tarot Readings for You for April 14, 2015 Tuesday©

GUIDANCE    It ain’t easy being easygoing. Being accommodating calls for occasional all-out self-defense. We all hate some love-everybody people. Everybody is in the way of you being the good guy, in practice. It helps if you love the battle and therefore can have a relaxed sense of humor about it. No, you can’t be soft if you promote peace, love and healthiness; you had best dig the challenge, love the fight. Loving your enemies is where it’s at if you aim to be the good guy, because just about everybody is the foe of peace-love-and-healthiness. (You won’t find this written up anywhere but here, by the way. Even here, this is a one-time offering Tarot is announcing.)

Seven of Wands – Ace of Cups – Ten of Wands

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

.

….....….....……    Ace of Cups is the easy way, going with the flow, living peace-love-and-good-health. Ten of Wands is the hard way, taking it all upon yourself and struggling a slow step at a time. Seven of Wands is pushing yourself in a battle against the odds (that you will win, defending your turf). How to reconcile these variances …. Here is how we did it: Well, if you’re a born fighter, it’s hard to cooperate; and when you love too much you get resisted. And it’s so hard to be a good person, it goes against the grain. And when you are a nice person, demanding people wear you out. Then there’s the advice to relax when you’re facing an adversary, that you save energy that way. Lastly, there are fights you can love. These three cards actually say ‘Militant decency forever.’ I like that, myself.

……………...………..Seven of Wands shows neighbors besieging a fellow’s property. Defending his home in his nightshirt with shoes that don’t match against six intruders, he is expected to succeed against the odds. Seven of Wands’ message is to give it all you’ve got, that you will succeed when they gang up on you, no matter what you face. This is definitely a fight, and one of the ways Ace of Cups influences Seven of Wands is ‘a good fight,’ because Ace of Cups means ‘good.’ Seven of Wands and Ace of Cups are also fighting for peace, and struggling to be a good person.

……………...………..Ace of Cups sits between two difficult cards, toning them down, today. Ace of Cups’ key word is ‘good.’ Ace of Cups even means holy, Holy Spirit, presence of God, and being the one who makes peace and/or influences others for good – even who channels divine influence to them. Ace of Cups is also to cooperate, get with the program, ease and easy – going with the flow. Today its boat is rocked by being next door to the militant Seven of Wands. These two can say ‘holy war’! Since Ace of Cups is love, and Seven of Wands is to fight, you can see ‘love a good fight’ here, can’t you? Seven of Wands and Ace of Cups describe resistance to being loved, too.

……………...………..Ten of Wands is too much. Ten of Wands is ‘You tire me out.’ Today it produces phrases like ‘the long way around’ and ‘take it upon myself’ and ‘uphill,’ and ‘long hard project’ and ‘going all out for’ along with its usual ‘the hard way,’ ‘has always,’ ‘too,’ and ‘it’s hard.’ ‘Too easy’ For Ten of Wands and Ace of Cups is a little unexpected, since Ten of Wands does man ‘hard’ or ‘difficult’ but we interpret verbatim here. Note that ‘excessive force,’ which one would expect with the ‘forceful attack’ of Seven of Wands and the ‘extreme’ trunk of Ten of Wands’ meaning tree, is stymied by the peace and ease of Ace of Cups.

You know from experience how hard it can be to be the good person, to be loving. We talk of several other against-the-grain experiences we can expect to encounter … or to watch others encounter. Here are a few: How an inborn assumption that you have to fight for what you get leads to resisting something that’s easy; how self-defense comes so hard to nice-girls; how hard it is to relax when you’re in the middle of some big push; how daunting adopting a health regimen is. So today we remind ourselves that, no matter what your proclivities are, what type you are, some things will rub you the wrong way: That’s life.

Now we show where each of the phrases in each of the sentences comes from:

Seven of Wands………..Seven of Wands has two main personalities. I think of them as, first, ‘Gimme the car keys, and, no, I ain’t fillin’ the tank’ – the stereotype being the mouthy pushy adolescent who has no manners and no gratitude. The other is ‘I’m mad as hell and I won’t take it anymore,’ which a movie made famous. The feeling, the stance, the confrontational behavior is pretty much the same, but stories differ. Defending or demanding. Seven of Wands can be a mooch – keep that in mind – a mooch who feels his mooching rights are violated. It commonly is simply standing up for yourself.

Words today for Seven of Wands are about protest, and about challenge. Some of them are: a fighter, fight, fighting for, resisted, prevail, view with suspicion, make them, self-defense, challenge, protests too much, high-pressure people, in-your-face heathen, demanding fellow, enemies, too defensive, jazzed, against-the-odds project, I push myself.

.

Ace of Cups………….Ace of Cups is odd man out in our spread. It sits between two difficult cards, not only toning them down, but being circumscribed or toned down by them. Ace of Cups is about going with the flow, being loving or good or spiritual or ethical, peace, cooperating, being easy, easygoing, soft and relaxed, being accommodating. It mentions a good health regimen too. Ten of Wands is hard and Ace of Cups is easy. This contrast is highlighted in today’s messages. Ace of Cups is love, which makes Seven of Wands resist love. Ace of Cups is cooperate, which makes Seven of Wands refuse to cooperate. Ace of Cups is love, and Ten of Wands is too much: Loving too much. You can see the energy here of Ace of Cups getting stepped on, and at the same time taking the edge off the other two cards.

.

Ten of Wands………..Ten of Wands is about extremes, about too much. Today Ten of Wands is simply ‘too’ half the time. Other words for it go along with the challenge you see in Seven of Wands. Those Ten of Wands phrases are: the hard way, has always, forever, the long way around, I take it upon myself, backbreaking, challenge, tire me out, uphill battle, longer, long hard, going all out. Ten of Wands’ illustration, of a fellow who has taken upon himself to carry it all in one backbreaking trip, directly express the picture.
