GUIDANCE        Today we look at being responsible and being irresponsible; at downfall and success; at creativity unleashed with discipline; at cheering up when you feel awful; at a person who is so masterful at handling highly stressful things that they are child’s play to him or her. We are taking control of our dark side, and also doing the wrong thing because it’s fun. I think the point is that we humans are not that consistent when it comes to willpower and mastering the near-impossible. (Present company excepted, of course?)

Sun What fun the impulsive little boy is having. He got out of the house into the yard nude and free. No one out here to tell him what to do, so he somehow mounts the disgruntled pony bareback. He has a huge banner unfurled as he unleashes himself, arms nowhere near the neck of the horse. Sun concentrates on these themes and ignores the hazard: the child; play; joy and fun; getting free of restrictions – house rules, of course; freedom. Sun is all about the impulsive, reckless, uninhibited, irresponsible nature on display here.

.

The ‘play’ expands to include ‘playboy,’ which also embraces bratty behavior. Sun can be the callous guy in a romance.

.

Sun also refers to daytime and sunshine.

.

You will find Sun saying ‘relief’ too, which grows out of the kind getting out from under the restrictions of the house.

Chariot Here’s the story: The drivers of chariots were the generals in war, the strategists in the battles, the leaders and decision-makers, and were responsible for the success of the mission and the fate of the nation. This card reflects all that and also has an occult application: Notice his steeds are evil sphinxes, and that he has a magic wand instead of reins. Various occult symbols are on him and his vehicle. A charioteer is the field commander who is a master at handling whatever comes up.

.

A chariot is a vehicle, so Chariot often is a car, truck – even a boat, airplane or lesser means of transport. Anything. Chariot can say ‘truck’ and ‘truck driver,’ as it does today.

.

Chariot is being in command. Today’s words for that are: mission; in control; run the show; in command; master at; taking control; handling.

.

Chariot is strategy. Chariot is choice and deciding, as well as choosing and being decisive.

.

And Chariot is success. That’s a very very common word for this Tarot card. Chariot is responsible and responsibility too.

.

Easily overlooked is that Chariot represents the personality traits of the other meanings: willpower, discipline, determination, and the ability to use obstacles to advantage.

Moon Moon (similar to Devil) can mean any awful horrible terrible thing, and will also say cuss words in your spreads if you are listening. It means some innocuous and even some nice things: creativity, and night time, for instance. And ‘lost,’ which may refer to your car keys.

.

Like Devil, Moon can translate ‘problem’ and ‘trouble. Like Devil, Moon can translate ‘vice’ and any vice you can think of. Moon can translate milder forms of this sort of thing, like, today, ‘misbehavior.’ Moon often represents a mistake or blunder, especially ‘the wrong road’ and the word ‘wrong.’ Wrong anything. Wrong decision, for instance, with Chariot. And Moon is the main card for lie, liar, and lying.

.

And here are today’s heavies, for Moon: wrecks, hell, crippling debt, f*** up, a lemon [car], it stinks, a tragic event, dark side, addiction, downfall, hates, delusion, horrible, feel awful, obsessed with.

.

I get screams of protest when I name Tarot Verbatim’s Moon meanings. Here’s why (at least in Rider Waite) Moon means these things: It represents the road to hell, literally, in antiquity. The twin towers were a real landmark, and they were considered to be the border ‘where dragons lived.’ A person took his life into his hands if he walked past those towers. And it seems to me that the notion of hell is more Hellenic than Hebrew, but I won’t argue it.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

…………..…………. …………………….

At first glance: Moon is a wrong road; Chariot is a vehicle; Sun is reckless. If you get these three cards in your Tarot reading, drive carefully and sanely. You may pick up on ‘ freedom of choice’ if you know Sun to be free and freedom, and Chariot to be decision and choice. The same goes for ‘ wrong choice’ since Moon is wrong. What I immediately gravitated to is the theme of taking charge and taking control of any sort of really bad situation in Chariot ( mastering) and Moon ( any awful thing). Then I saw a kid, Sun, running the show, Chariot, being a baad move, Moon. All of these are stories these three Tarot cards potentially tell.

.

Sun and Chariot are opposites, in that Sun is a reckless feckless young brat and Chariot is a very serious and responsible skilled adult on a mission.

.

These cards are not seen together. There are 3,003 possible two-card combinations, and my (Emily’s) site has nearly 2500 posts, so we cover any likely pair. If you Google two cards and Tarot Verbatim™ doesn’t have them, they are a rare pair. And in this spread, Sun and Moon have only one post in the archives, and Chariot and Moon don’t have any. Sun and Chariot are well-populated, though.

Guidance

Strategy begins with realizing the difference between taking a deliberate, calculated risk to achieve a goal, purpose or mission, and taking an equally risky action for the heck of it, or for some reckless fun.  There are risks you take for benefits, and there are others that are more for sport.

Hanged Man – Chariot – Seven of Swords

Tarot Readings: Free (Sun)

  Sun

He is out to have fun, knowing it’s risky.

It strikes me how I sabotage my success, and I am not free of that.

Now that I have figured out how he hurts me by design (on purpose), I am free of him, I am outa here.

It hits me that I am free to fulfill my ambitions if I have the guts to do so.

Dare to think for yourself:  It feels dangerous to let loose.

Once you know your mission or purpose, you free yourself to pull it off.

I make up my mind that taking chances is fun.

It’s a fun thing to have the willpower for mental adventures.

Tarot Readings: Taking Chances, Thrills (Seven of Swords)

Seven of Swords

Stealing the car is an intense thrill.

A thief has an inspiration to joy ride your vehicle.

Aware the kid is a dangerous driver.

You know someone could get hurt, and you drive recklessly anyway.

That dangerous car is a thrill to drive, you can feel it.

I am doing what I have a mind to do:  Damn the torpedos!

Send your mind out to play in traffic.

Tarot Readings: The Strategist (Chariot)

 Chariot

He is a strategist; he knows how to get away with cheating.

Realize the person in charge can get away with stealing.

He knows how to disarm them with his charm, to accomplish his purpose.

As I drive away from there, I realize he got the best of me.

A strategist thinks daring out-of-the-box thoughts.

A brilliant idea of how to get ahead, how to get out from under whatever is holding you back

(even if that is yourself).

All of a sudden I get it:  The charming boy is using that charm to get control of me.

Now I get it, and he can’t outsmart me anymore.

Tarot Readings: Dangerous Project (Chariot + Seven of Swords)

Chariot  Seven of Swords

He thinks a dangerous project is fun.

He has the skill and the knowhow for a dangerous sport.

Send your mind out to play in traffic.

Hanged Man

Hanged Man

Hanged Man  is realizing, sensing, catching on, ‘getting it’ and being inspired.  He is deja vu, eureka, flashbacks, subconscious or psychic awareness, knowing, having ‘ a feeling in our bones.’  He is the upended and disoriented feeling you get … like you’re upside-down with your hair on fire … when you first realize ‘what should have been obvious.’

Chariot

Chariot

Chariot is about using skill and willpower to accomplish a purpose, mission or ambition – being a strategist, being the driver. Chariot is the project manager and the ‘man who gets the job done by hook or by crook.’  This card’s illustration is about using all the factors of a situation – even the ones that work against it – to achieve your aim.

Seven of Swords

Seven of Swords

Seven of Swords  is hotfooting it out of enemy camp with weapons (holding them by the blade).  He is a sneak thief, he has violated or double-crossed or undermined some kind of trust.  He is also about self-destructive antics or behavior, what with the ungloved fingers on the sword blades.  Often, the mission is not going to be successful … it’s about taking a great big risky chance.

Sun

Sun

Sun is sneaking out from under the house rules to play, in a reckless happy frenzy.  Sun is the ‘charming baby boy’ type. The boy is naked, bareback atop an evil-intentioned pony, arms akimbo.  His rule-breaking is uninhibited and impulsive.  Often, Sun just means fun, a ‘whee’ feeling of release, relief, freedom.  He is also the callous playboy with a little help from certain Tarot friends, in other spreads.

Learn Tarot

Now Without The Pictures

Sun and Seven of Swords are daring rule-breakers, and Chariot is a strategist.  Hanged Man is the innocent bystander observing the scene today.

Sun is sneaking out from under the house rules to play, in a reckless happy frenzy.  The boy is naked, bareback atop an evil-intentioned pony, arms akimbo.  His rule-breaking is uninhibited and impulsive.

Seven of Swords, on the other hand, is hotfooting it out of enemy camp with weapons (holding them by the blade).  He is a thief, he has violated or double-crossed or undermined some kind of trust.  He is also about self-destructive antics or behavior, what with the ungloved fingers on the sword blades.

When you put Sun and Seven of Swords together, you get a sort of ‘go play in traffic’ theme, a ‘damn the torpedoes’ theme, a cute and charming devil, a dangerous frolic like a joyride in a stolen car.  The playfulness of Sun detracts from the mal-intent of Seven of Swords.

Then Chariot reinforces the deliberate intent of Seven of Swords.  Chariot and Seven of Swords each have missions.  Chariot’s is upfront and respectable (barring other cards saying otherwise), but Seven of Swords’ is nefarious.  Seven of Swords can be a terrorist, even.

Chariot is about using skill and willpower to accomplish a purpose or ambition – being a strategist.  Chariot + Seven of Swords is ‘out to get ya.’  It’s also the stolen car, what with Seven of Swords being the thief and Chariot being any vehicle.  When it reinforces the deliberate intent of Sun, he’s using that charm to get control of (you), since Sun is the ‘charming baby boy’ type.

Our remaining Rider-Waite Tarot card, Hanged Man, is an innocent bystander to the intrigue theme:  He is just about realizing, sensing, catching on, ‘getting it’ and being inspired.

Our Daily Spread for April 13, 2011

Rider_Waite_Tarot_Spread

He has decided to leave the house and be with the girl he wants

Nine of Cups
Chariot, Sun, Three of Cups

He has decided to leave the house and be with the girl he wants.
He drives out of his own home; he wants to party with the girl(s).
The girls just want to have fun, and they succeed.
He wants to be a playboy but decides to share his life with her.
He decides to share his life with her but wants to be a playboy.

When he decides to be a brat, the girls just want to be with one another.
The girls want to enjoy one another’s company when he decides to be a controlling brat.
The girls share the satisfying profit they made when they impulsively pooled their money
The girls succeed and are so happy they are partying to excess.
The girls share their riches, and are delighted with their decisions.

Their joint profit frees them to do whatever they want.
Uninhibited ambition and joint enterprise have made him rich.
Wanting to party with the socialites unleashed his ambition.
Rich girls party uninhibitedly with successful men.
Successful women want time off.

He vacations on purpose where the rich ladies enjoy themselves.
He is successful very young, so all the girls want him.
Everybody wants to be happy and successful.
Playboy’s car gets him all the girls he wants.

Geez.  Are you guys at it again?  LOOK at this spread!  In the middle are two ‘party’ cards, a male card and a female card.  The Sun is a brat/playboy having fun, and it also means unleashed and uninhibited.  The Three of Cups in Rider Waite is sharing life and good times, wealthy women or debutantes, party girls, girls celebrating a joint venture, the sharing of profits.  To the left of these two is the ambitious successful dude in his car, the Chariot.  To the right is rich living, having all you could want, profit, money, excess.  Oh, this isn’t hard to figure out, is it?

Advice is to enjoy your success, to share your success and celebrate yourself and your achievements with your friends.  We are more wealthy and more successful than we think we are sometimes.

Meanings and Illustrations:

Chariot: The ambitious successful dude in his car.  He has achieved.  He is in control.  He decides.  He is in the driver’s seat.  The illustration shows a successful skilled driver of a chariot whose two steeds head in opposite directions, and he gets them to go ahead for him.

Sun: The Sun is a brat/playboy having fun, and it also means unleashed, impulsive, and uninhibited.  He is reckless.  Having fun extends to being on vacation.  Illustration shows a young boy who sneaked out of the house to play on a wicked pony bareback.  The pony has a look in his eye.  That pony is related to the one on the Six of Wands.

Three of Cups: The Three of Cups in Rider Waite is sharing life and good times, wealthy women or debutantes, party girls, girls celebrating a joint venture, the sharing of profits.  Illustration shows girls toasting their profit standing on the harvest field.

Nine of Cups: Here’s that rich guy, rich life, the excess of wealth.  He done et tha whole thing.  Illustration shows a fat fella with a big grin and nine cups he has emptied behind him … and that isn’t V8 he has been drinking, either.

We have a counterpart couple, the Emperor and the Empress, who would be a ruling class or elite pair.  She is the sexy babe, the debutante, the rich lady and he is the leader of the clan, the federal government, the important man, etc.  In between them, an the card above them, we have realizing, The Hanged Man, and wondering, the Seven of Pentacles.

Advice?  Hmmm.  I would say be aware of status as a factor of the people around you.  Powerful people and beautiful people:  be curious about them.

Meanings and Illustrations:

Emperor: This is the president, the community muckety-muck, the man who owns the company, even the federal government, or a wealthy man with high status, the captain of industry type.  Hello, Mr. Trump.

Hanged Man: To recognize, to realize, to know.  Illustration shows the eureka experience:  The upside-down-ness you feel when, duh, a truth strikes you.  An upside-down man with a bright light around his head that indicates, of course, a bright idea.

Empress: This is the rich lady, the Babe, the easy woman as well as the ideal woman.  Here she is with her counterpart as the wife of the VIP.  As such, she is a debutante here.  Of course, the old man could be her father as well.  She is pictured with the fine cushions, the crown, the shield with the female symbol on it, the blonde hair … She is Barbie crossed with the Queen of England.

Seven of Pentacles: He wonders, he ponders.  Duh.  Illustration shows a fellow contemplating his cucumber vines wondering whether he has both genders of the plant so that it will produce fruit for him.  No way to tell at that moment.Learn Tarot
