Temperance
We can do without Temperance; it is sort of a Middle Ages add-on. An angel (with a symbol of healing on his chest) pours water and wine back and forth. In real-life Tarot, this card takes this back-and-forth blending to mean intimacy and communication. It ought to belong to the ‘flow’ theme, but it doesn’t show up there either. So Temperance is deals and dealing; Temperance is communication and intimacy. It often translates ‘relationship’ or close/intimate relationship. It can say ‘reciprocal.’ It can be buddies. It is propinquity too: just standing next to someone, once in a while, is a Temperance thing.
Page of Wands
Temperance (communication) brings out the language and speaking side of Page of Wands here today. ‘Most every phrase he makes today is about that: a talk; told; discuss; flirts; talks with; verbally; blabs; say so, etc. He does produce ‘the body,’ and ‘physical’ and ‘proud of’ and ‘salesmanship.’ Gone for the moment are all his Prince Charming, good-looking guy honorable mentions. He also, today, isn’t ‘the type of person who.’
High Priestess
So how does High Priestess mean ‘she who knows’ in so many ways? The first cards of the Major Arcanae represent esoteric principles, according to meanings that numbers have to occultists. Two is the passive feminine principle of receptivity and knowing (as opposed to Magician, the ‘one,’ the masculine principle of being active on the physical plane, doing, and not active on mental and spiritual planes). This begets High Priestess’ being private, knowing all, being in the background, being spiritual or even being the spiritual plane, staying or remaining, secret knowledge, and knowledge of secrets. High Priestess is considered active on the spiritual plane and passive on the physical, the opposite of Magician. So she gets to be the smart lady, and she gets to be the other woman by default – the waiting, and the being alone meanings.

Both Temperance and Page of Wands are about talking. Temperance is a two-way conversation, a dialog. Page of Wands features one person talking. Our plot thickens when High Priestess joins them – someone who is receptive (a listener); a secret; someone who knows so well; a woman who isn’t responsive, who is quiet.
Temperance is relationship – close relationship, intimate relationship, interrelating, reciprocating, having a deal together, being together, being close as buddies or lovers or partners, or as a team.
High Priestess is not reciprocating, not divulging what she knows, but is alone and private.
High Priestess is the lady; Page of Wands is the good guy, and the good looking guy. He is a talker; she is a listener. He is about himself; she is a fount of wisdom and expertise.
It’s easy to see, in our three-card story here, a close relationship between a flirty fellow and a quiet lady; a talkative fellow and a woman who doesn’t divulge what she knows; a handsome guy and an introverted gal.

………………………….. Fool is nothing. Literally. He is the cipher, the zero. Fool is not present, doesn’t know, isn’t concerned, is heedless, is young and … well, foolish. Remember ‘God protects Fools and drunks’? Fool leads a charmed life – takes chances blithely and comes out smelling like a rose, as they say. The underlying meaning is that a spiritual person isn’t paying attention to the practical physical realities, but has his head in the clouds and is exempt from consequences by virtue of his standing ‘out there.’ (Don’t try this at home!)

Temperance …….. Temperance is one of those cards that violates the premise of Tarot Verbatim™ in that the picture on the Rider Waite card doesn’t comport, that much, with the meanings Tarot Verbatim™ has for it, consistently. Tarot Verbatim™ is field-tested, so we know the meanings that apply for each card. This is one of the ‘artificial’ cards that appear in the Middle Ages in Europe to deflect the potentially fatal wrath of the political power of the Roman Catholic empire against Tarot users as witches. Temperance is overtly pious about diluting wine with water so as to not feel the good effect of the wine. So this Tarot card should be about dilution and moderation. It isn’t – not for me in almost forty years, anyway.
Temperance is closeness – any kind of closeness. It can be an intimate relationship or conversation. It can be close dealing, reciprocally (back and forth) between two parties (which, by the way, can be corporations). It can be buddies. Sometimes it is just standing or being next to. It can mean reciprocating – remember that, because it’s less obvious.

Page of Wands …………. Page of Wands is Prince Charming, the good-looking dude who dresses well and speaks well and is the pride of his mother and the ‘good catch’ of his woman. He can sell us anything, he is such a good guy. He actually means ‘type of person’ in your spreads (and that doesn’t have to be the good guy, based on the card that gives the input). Page of Wands is about presentation, speech, talking, being the spokesperson or the salesperson – which can be female, by the way, since the card is meaning ‘salesperson.’ Page of Wands also is ‘proud to’ or ‘proud to be.’

Fool …………. Fool you can think of as the unknown, the subconscious or superconscious, being oblivious, going on faith, being young and optimistic, or naive, or foolish. It says ‘Oh, never mind.’ It means the theory or the assumption – the spark in the mind that began what later would become a physical reality. Fool is the potentiality, the nascent stage … the not-yet-fertilized egg that might become an individual physical life of any species. Why? – because Fool is the zero, the cipher, the place-holder that has no value of its own but determines the value of other numbers that are, shall we say, officially there rather than just holding a blank space down.

Once again we see how, without a question that names the parties and the subject, a number of seemingly unrelated and/or contradictory messages are conveyed. The question behind these sentences is a ‘Tell the visitors to the blog today something meaning to them about their doings today” type thing.
Page of Wands is ‘he,’ is the good-looking guy, is any word that involves ‘talk’ and also means to stand up, to give your word. Temperance is to deal, to be intimate or close, a one-on-one transaction or relationship. The Four of Swords is to not do, to stay unchanged, to sleep, to not participate, to refrain. The Three of Wands is a simple card that means ‘ships are coming in.’ so: income, the future, continuing, etc.
In this four-card ‘Outcome’ spread, there is no position-meaning to affect the message, and these cards can be read in any order. That, of course, adds to the variety of meanings. Since our messages here are to the public, or at least OUR public, that is a good thing.
