Ten of Swords
You see someone stabbed in the back lying in a desolate patch of ground, the weapons still in him or her. Remember Fantasia, a children’s Disney movie about the Sorcerer’s Apprentice who loses control of mischievous spirits he conjured up in his amateurish way? He was not in control of them and they created havoc and chaos before the boss calmed the situation. Seven of Cups illustrates that. So Seven of Cups is losing control, is a situation that is out of control or is a mess – or a person that is out of control or is a mess, is a situation in which things have fallen apart and you have or someone has ‘blown it.’

Three of Pentacles
He is the contractor who built their building, agreeing on the contract. Now he demonstrates to them – blueprint in their hands – that he lived up to his end of their deal and deserves his final draw, his profit. All these key words belong to Three of Pentacles.
And more. Because Three of Pentacles is THE relationship card; it includes business relationships and love relationships, social relationships and any other kind of group interaction of entities which have something in common (say, an international tribunal type thing).
When in doubt, translate Three of Pentacles ‘relationship.’ A relationship in which each party does his/her part is the basic meaning. A meeting of any kind, especially a financial or budget meeting, or a meeting in which issues are worked out, or items are agreed upon – because Three of Pentacles also strongly means ‘agreement.’
Three of Pentacles is a legal card, beginning with the meeting and the negotiation, and right on up to the settlement. It is about court proceedings through its ‘meeting’ category of meanings.
Naturally, with the contractor in the picture demonstrating his entitlement to his final draw, Three of Pentacles is about payoff, collecting what you are due and what was agreed upon, and paying same.
Three of Pentacles is also one of the cards about mutuality – about each party doing his part both paying and benefiting – so is can apply to helping a friend, or uniting for another person (or persons, or entities) benefit. People get together for a common purpose in Three of Pentacles. Helping a friend is more implied – more an application if there’s a theme for that – than a direct meaning for Three of Pentacles. Today, Ace of Cups reinforces the ‘helping.’
Ace of Cups
Today Ace of Cups features love and help – loves and helps. Ace of Cups is about ‘good,’ about the flow of good feeling, love, cooperation that a person can be, and can emanate (spread). (Google ‘Ace of Cups Tarot Verbatim’ to see how this enigmatic illustration means these things – it’s a Roman Catholic diagram of humans channeling the love of God via Holy Spirit, in short.) So Ace of Cups can directly mean God (anybody’s God).
Phrases with ‘good’ in them belong to Ace of Cups: good people (or better people, today), a good way, in good shape, feeling good.
Ace of Cups is both healing and being healthy, or something being in good shape, being okay, being sound.
In meaning the absence of harm and presence of safety, Ace of Cups translates ‘harmless’ and ‘innocent.’
Ace of Cups is benefit, is being nourished. The flow of the five streams (five senses) into the ocean (mass consciousness) brings Ace of Cups words like cooperation, easy, flow, and ‘let,’ as it ‘let it be.’

Ten of Swords
All is lost, in the illustration, but Ten of Swords can apply specifically to a bad situation that is less severe than what is shown here.
First, yes, this is the card for a badly injured person, a very sick person, a very hurtful experience – even a near-death experience. Great harm and trauma.
But, here are some ‘lesser includeds,’ as criminal lawyers say: harm, disappointment, disability, disaster, heartbreak, bad day or the worst time, being down, getting screwed, the worst of it, been through hell, suffer a loss, fiasco, misery. Mere humiliation, sometimes. Ten of Swords also represents a melodramatic martyred feeling. A suffering soul personality.
Ten of Swords can also represent a bankruptcy, victimization or a victim, and simply being in great need.

Ace of Cups is the absence of harm, and Ten of Swords is great harm. The remaining Tarot card (Three of Pentacles) means getting together and working it out to mutual benefit. Your friends get together with you and heal your heartache. Some personal tragedy enables you to better deal with other people. And a natural disaster is good business for contractors who put damaged buildings into good shape.

Or one person does something about a group’s problem. It’s simplistic, putting it this way, but our subject today is the effect one person has on a group of people. And we usually look at this sort of thing the other way around: how we are influenced by our peers and our surroundings.

Ten of Swords
Ten of Swords is one of those Tarot cards that make you look for a rescue card right away. (In Tarot Verbatim™, we call the cards that negate or lesson the bad news of other cards ‘rescue cards’ because they are.) You see a really bad day in this illustration: a prostrate victim who has ten swords stuck through him or her.
Naturally, Ten of Swords refers to bad situations and bad feelings, but there are degrees and there are distinctions. It can mean as little as exhaustion, dead drunk or ‘dead to the world,’ disappointment, a mistake, failure, damage, to badly need, to feel terrible about something, depression, a martyr complex, a disgrace, humiliation. Today it even says ‘boo-boo’ for mistake. Ten of Swords is such a dramatic illustration that it will appear once in a while for something blown out of proportion: See the rest of the spread for that. (For instance, with Queen of Swords, which is a woman who isn’t getting what she is entitled to (or is a complainer or nag) it can be the drama queen who suffers to get attention and/or manipulate, for instance.)
But yes, this is the card for hideous awful things. Hopeless hurtful things. Divide these into material things in bad shape or disrepair (Like today with Four of Wands, a house in disrepair) and living things involved in a major setback or tragedy.

Words today for living things involved in a major setback or tragedy are: bad mistake, wrecked, failed, messed up, bad things happen, we badly need, exhaust yourself, in trouble with, disgraceful things, in a tragedy, terribly wrong for him, suffers for it, traumatic, and ‘that awful.’ Ten of Swords is a major card for pain (and not just terrible pain), but we aren’t using that today.
Ten of Swords also belongs to the ‘loss’ tribe of meanings in Tarot Verbatim™ so it often translates as: lose, loser, lets (whoever) down, disappoints, and bankrupt. It can say ‘depleted’ in many contexts too.
Magician
Magician is one of those well-defined cards that have few meanings, so they are anchor cards. Today, we neatly use each category in such a way that we define the spread of Magician’s wings. History: As the ‘1,’ Magician means male and active (esoteric stuff from Golden Dawn, the origin of Rider Waite Tarot).
So first category of today’s meanings for Magician is: do, does, do something about, he does that, doing for, does it.
Second category is ‘he’ because Magician means male. If you ask the gender of an unborn and Magician predominates, it’s male. Here are today’s words for this: he is just the man for, he gets himself, handyman, what he did, this guy, he is a (fill in the blank with another card) man. Notice that Magician represents not just the action but the thing that was done – the task.
Third category is the fact that Magician means euphemisms (other words) for getting something done – words like ‘make’ and ‘bring down’ or ‘bring about.’ We use ‘making’ today.
Fourth category is the words ‘act’ and ‘action.’ Today’s phrases for that are: acts, action taken, the way he acts, ‘I got that man to,’ acting on behalf, and actions of.
Fifth category is to start or initiate. The words for that today are: he starts a new, and starting a. Magician will appear when a man introduces himself, initiating a relationship (of any sort).
Four of Wands
The marriage cards in Tarot Verbatim™ expand to any sort of groups of people of any size, and Four of Wands’ illustration shows a wedding. See, it begins with the couple or marriage, expands to the family, family clan, neighborhood, city county, district, state, nation, world. Four of Wands and Ten of Cups are the ‘positive marriage cards’ and Ten of Pentacles, which visited us yesterday, is the negative one. (Yes, they all mean lots of other unrelated stuff.) Four of Wands also indicates someone is married, and may translate ‘married man’ or married woman’ even without a specific card to represent the gender.

Here are the meanings for groups of people: we, us, other people, in front of people, good people, everybody.
Four of Wands is also a house, home, or building, including ‘headquarters.’ It will show up as public buildings a lot, like courthouse, hospital, school. It translates ‘the property’ today.

You see Ten of Swords, and your eye goes immediately to its neighbor Tarot cards, hoping for mitigation … because good meanings for Ten of Swords are rare as hens’ teeth, or rare as teats or a boar hog, as they say. I have seen it mean acupuncture. And it can mean some things that are not-so-bad – things like mistakes, exhaustion, being drunk, damage, failure, pain, disappointment. But this is the card for disaster, tragedy, suffering, hitting bottom, and being laid low.
So who do we have modifying this story element?: Four of Wands as a house, home, family, group of people, organization, or marriage; and Magician as the man who does or man who acts, or the action itself.
Put these together, and you have stories of what one man does either saving the group he belongs to from a bad thing, or what one man does injuring the group he belongs to. You also have a story of something being done to harm a house or property, or something being done about the harm.
So we end up with a caution about actions taken on behalf of whatever group we belong to which could be home, social, business or any other category of life…

Prestigious universities overseas (Oxford University; L’ecole Polytechnique, and others) have classes in English that result in degrees, and they are far far far cheaper and far more respected internationally than U S universities are now. Bonus is that getting a job overseas is a LOT easier if you are not a United States school graduate. Tuition is a mere $5,000 at some of these schools. Stansberry Research (financial newsletters) is where I learned about this.)

Ten of Swords – Ten of Swords is one of those Tarot cards that make you look for a rescue card right away. (In Tarot Verbatim™, we call the cards that negate or lesson the bad news of other cards ‘rescue cards’ because they are.) You see a really bad day in this illustration: a prostrate victim who has ten swords stuck through him or her.

Naturally, Ten of Swords refers to bad situations and bad feelings, but there are degrees and there are distinctions. It can mean as little as exhaustion, dead drunk or ‘dead to the world,’ disappointment, a mistake, failure, damage, to badly need, to feel terrible about something, depression, a martyr complex, a disgrace, humiliation. Today it even says ‘boo-boo’ for mistake. Ten of Swords is such a dramatic illustration that it will appear once in a while for something blown out of proportion: See the rest of the spread for that. (For instance, with Queen of Swords, which is a woman who isn’t getting what she is entitled to (or is a complainer or nag) it can be the drama queen who suffers to get attention and/or manipulate, for instance.)

But yes, this is the card for hideous awful things. Hopeless hurtful things. Divide these into material things in bad shape or disrepair (Like today with Four of Wands, a house in disrepair) and living things involved in a major setback or tragedy.

Words today for material things in bad shape or disrepair are: damaged, blighted, that kind of disrepair, messed up, wrecked.

Words today for living things involved in a major setback or tragedy are: bad mistake, wrecked, failed, messed up, bad things happen, we badly need, exhaust yourself, in trouble with, disgraceful things, in a tragedy, terribly wrong for him, suffers for it, traumatic, and ‘that awful.’ Ten of Swords is a major card for pain (and not just terrible pain), but we aren’t using that today.

Ten of Swords also belongs to the ‘loss’ tribe of meanings in Tarot Verbatim™ so it often translates as: lose, loser, lets (whoever) down, disappoints, and bankrupt. It can say ‘depleted’ in many contexts too.
Magician – Magician is one of those well-defined cards that have few meanings, so they are anchor cards. Today, we neatly use each category in such a way that we define the spread of Magician’s wings. History: As the ‘1,’ Magician means male and active (esoteric stuff from Golden Dawn, the origin of Rider Waite Tarot).

So first category of today’s meanings for Magician is: do, does, do something about, he does that, doing for, does it.

Second category is ‘he’ because Magician means male. If you ask the gender of an unborn and Magician predominates, it’s male. Here are today’s words for this: he is just the man for, he gets himself, handyman, what he did, this guy, he is a (fill in the blank with another card) man. Notice that Magician represents not just the action but the thing that was done – the task.

Third category is the fact that Magician means euphemisms (other words) for getting something done – words like ‘make’ and ‘bring down’ or ‘bring about.’ We use ‘making’ today.

Fourth category is the words ‘act’ and ‘action.’ Today’s phrases for that are: acts, action taken, the way he acts, ‘I got that man to,’ acting on behalf, and actions of.

Fifth category is to start or initiate. The words for that today are: he starts a new, and starting a. Magician will appear when a man introduces himself, initiating a relationship (of any sort).
Four of Wands – The marriage cards in Tarot Verbatim™ expand to any sort of groups of people of any size, and Four of Wands’ illustration shows a wedding. See, it begins with the couple or marriage, expands to the family, family clan, neighborhood, city county, district, state, nation, world. Four of Wands and Ten of Cups are the ‘positive marriage cards’ and Ten of Pentacles, which visited us yesterday, is the negative one. (Yes, they all mean lots of other unrelated stuff.) Four of Wands also indicates someone is married, and may translate ‘married man’ or married woman’ even without a specific card to represent the gender.

Page of Wands – Page of Wands is being good-looking, and looking good, and being in good shape. He speaks well, is dressed well, and is proud of himself. This is the young man whose mother is proud of him, and this is the Prince Charming the girls are looking for. (He is proud of himself too.) Watch him show up as the bachelor … Bachelor Number One today. Page of Wands is respectable; he conforms; he fits in. Page of Wands is you being your best self.

Remember this is the card (along with Hierophant) for being a type of person (usually a good-guy type, unless another card specifies differently).

Page of Wands also means to speak up, to declare, to speak, tell, say, discuss – any word of that theme.
Ten of Swords – You can call them uh-oh cards, as your heart skips a beat and your eyes dart to the surrounding cards for a negator to take the edge off them. You know it means betrayal (stabbed in the back), trauma, suffering, maybe even death, murder or assault. But it commonly means fail and fail to and failure, and hitting bottom or feeling low.

Ten of Swords is more likely to refer to that feeling of disappointment or devastation about mundane daily events we encounter. It often translates words like: miserable, awful, going through hell, done wrong, double-cross, disappointment, being down or feeling bad, getting hurt or getting hurt feelings, failing, pitfall, traumatized, done you wrong, fiasco, bankruptcy, market crash, and all sorts of loss.
Nine of Cups – Glad, happy, satisfied or safunsified, got what I want, grateful – enough and too much. Profit, benefit, and serendipity. Nine of Cups is feeling good about your ship coming in. Today that feeling comes out as ‘music to my ears,’ because Nine of Cups knows some slang. Nine of Cups also translates what you want – and that can apply to anything at all, including being as well as having. With Page of Wands today, ‘I am the person I want to be.’

The closest Nine of Cups can come to not being a wonderful find is when it means ‘too much’ or excess.

Ten of Swords Ten of Swords is one of those really obvious Rider Waite Tarot cards, isn’t it? Stabbed in the back, laid down and done in. Ten of Swords obviously means betrayal, humiliation, disappointment, being ‘done in,’ suffering, hurting, being ‘down and out’ and any other kind of awful and devastating experience one can experience. The illustration (being done in; swords surrounding the body) reminds us of Eight of Swords – which has similar meanings.
Sun Sun is you getting out from under whatever restrictions hold you back, but Sun is also recklessly abandoning legitimate restraints upon your behavior. You see the juvenile escaping from the house (and its rules) to cavort upon the back of the pony who does not tolerate this foolishness. Sun is being free, having fun, being on vacation; but Sun is also violating norms that only a kid would defy.
Nine of Pentacles Nine of Pentacles is survivor mode. She has been there and done that, learned from it, and is now in command of the the life she has carved out for herself. That doesn’t mean (necessarily, of course) that she is powerful from other people’s perspective: She is in command of her own world, her own circumstances. She is independent. She has a niche she is comfortable in.
The snail in the illustration says she does things at her own leisure. The falcon (Yes, that’s what that bird is meant to represent.) indicates – once again – she has a life of enough leisure to devote to a hobby (falconry) in the middle of an afternoon.
