Here’s maybe the very simplest, most obvious, Rider Waite Tarot card. A merchant all dressed up watches the ships come in that carry his money and new merchandise. That’s you, today. Your ship is coming in. Three of Wands is income or money coming in, and is anything good ahead. Three of Wands puts a future tense to another card’s verb or adds ‘will’ or ‘will be’ to your sentences. When Three of Wands says the check is in the mail, the check is in the mail. This card in Tarot Verbatim™ also means waiting, or is advice to ‘just wait.’.

 

 

 

Ace of Pentacles

Ace of Pentacles

You see a straight road of the same color as the gold in the handful of it, above. Ace of Pentacles is yet another Rider Waite Tarot card that links having money with being right, religious, or spiritual. The lilies that begin the road, and the rose arbor at its end of course represent respectively purity and success. The gold is of course the money part. The hand with gold in it says ‘success’ and ‘has money.’ You can see how ‘You’re on the right track’ belongs to Ace of Pentacles.

You can also see ‘the straight and narrow’ of Christianese in this illustration. ‘The middle way’ is what that’s called in Buddhism, and other religions have their own phrase for behaving yourself and doing right. So Ace of Pentacles does have a religious application.

In application in your Tarot work, Ace of Pentacles translates: yes; correct; perfect; best; success or succeed; a road, route or street or even an alley; straight, including go straight; a course; the way; path; possession (of anything, any form, including being possessive), paying or receiving money; funding or funds; valuable, precious, expensive; the price.

Ace of Cups

Ace of Cups

The complex illustration depicts human consciousness channeling the divine spirit into mass consciousness. A large body of water represents mass consciousness in spiritual writings and spiritual art. Since the dove and the wafer and the ‘W’ are specifically Roman Catholic, it depicts a human channeling Holy Spirit. The five streams out of the fountain represent five senses of the human, or the ‘five humors (bodily fluids)’ of Middle Ages days.

The flow of the water has a lot to do with many of Ace of Cups’ meanings and applications. ‘Go with the flow’ belongs to Ace of Cups, and it can mean any seepage, leak, loss of fluid, and flow of blood. It also applies as ‘to go along with’ and to cooperate or cooperation itself. Ace of Cups is one of the cards that means agreement or ‘to agree’ or be agreeable to. So it means ‘approved’ and ‘approval’ as well.

Ace of Cups means ‘good.’ Anything good. This brings up good health, which Ace of Cups solidly means. ‘All benefit and no harm’ is a slogan I use for Ace of Cups, and of course it means ‘benefit’ and ‘beneficial.’ So Ace of Cups is one of the ‘good guy’ theme. Watch for it to mean ‘not harmful’ – even the GRAS (generally recognized as safe) phrase that makes food legal. And speaking of that, Ace of Cups also translates ‘pure’ and ‘purity,’ including in the same application as the GRAS example – so once in a while it will refer to an instrument saying some substances is pure-whatever-it-is.

Ace of Cups is the main ‘love’ card. Love is a huge chapter in Ace of Cups’ book, probably growing out of ‘God is love.’ (I say ‘probably’ because: Remember, Tarot Verbatim’s™ meanings arise from asking questions with known answers to determine what cards mean, so its meanings are not arbitrary or based on numerology, astrology, or any dogma not Tarot’s own.) Love, and specifically true love, unconditional love. It means kindness, being helpful or helping too, of course.

Peace is another chapter in Ace of Cups’ book, also probably arising from the God part, as well as from the flow part. Along with peace comes relaxation, ease, easy, and comfortable.

Ace of Cups is associated strongly with female gender. If you ask the gender of a baby, this card says ‘female.’ It means female love too – as in the female loves, or love the female.

Ace of Cups is all good and nothing bad, and it’s easy as well. (And Ace of Cups shows these good things in your hand, too.)

Both Three of Wands and Ace of Pentacles are about money. Three of Wands is income or money coming in; Ace of Pentacles is having money (sometimes, paying money).

Ace of Pentacles, with its ‘right way’ and ‘Path’ meanings, is potentially religious/spiritual, where Ace of Cups is overtly religious/spiritual.

Ace of Pentacles means success, and Ace of Cups is ‘easy.’ They also say ‘The easy way is the right way’ and ‘Succeed by going with the flow’ and ‘rewarded for cooperating.’

Ace of Pentacles (perfect) and Ace of Cups (true love) together are perfect love, the real thing. With Ace of Cups meaning ‘easy,’ these two cards say: easy money, easy way to, the easiest route. Perfect comfort, too.

Death’s illustration shows the dead king on the ground, the grieving family kneeling, the bishop’s possessing the crown to bestow upon the next head of state, death personified in black armor carrying a black flag with an emblem of a rose. Ace of Pentacles depicts the idea that goodness is rewarded, that being on the right path brings money. Hmmm. You see the right path in gold, very straight and narrow, lilies (purity) to begin, and a huge arbor of roses                (victory) to end. In case you don’t get THAT, a hand with a pile of gold coins is suspended over said gold path. In real life, Ace of Pentacles is money, being correct or right, the right path, a road (any kind), reward or credit, and ‘yes.’

Fool’s illustration bears some explanation. This young person skips to cliff edge, not looking where he is going, his dog prancing along. He is on a trip on foot with only a small purse, no provisions for him or the dog, and carries a white rose (purity, spirituality) in his hand. (He should meet Queen of Cups.) Fool is the zero, which suggests ‘nothing’ and being a place holder rather than having a real presence.

Fool means ‘to be free of’ and even ‘to be not there’ or absent. It can translate ‘nothing’ or ‘having no.’ The underlying idea is that a person who lives in spiritual reality is oblivious to physical hazards, and is exempt from their harm. (Do not try this at home.)

Ace of Pentacles is being on the right track or path, success, money, what’s right or correct; and it means ‘yes’ as the first self card in a Celtic Cross spread. Fool and Death together are tricky because in Tarot Verbatim™ Death is any negative modifier and Fool often means a lack of something since it means to be free, and therefore ‘to be free of’ anything. Death is an end and Fool is a start (since it is the zero). Although most Tarot systems consider death a change – ‘The king is dead, long live the king,’ don’t expect that in Tarot Verbatim.

Ace of Pentacles exemplifies the idea that being good is rewarded, that goodness is associated with money. You see the straight path in gold, lilies at its beginning (purity) and a rose arbor of victory at its end. In case you don’t get THAT point, a hand with gold in it is over the gold path. In use, Ace of Pentacles’ most common meanings are: money, to pay or receive it; being on track or on the path; right and correct; a road, literally; and being rewarded or getting credit for something.

Death is any negative modifier, and it means ‘the end’ or ‘ends up.’ The times it does translate ‘death,’ either death is the subject of the inquiry, or it does not refer to a death that would bring grief, often meaning the death of a thought or a thing. Usually, you see this Tarot card being: no, not, isn’t, can’t, don’t, won’t, and such words, and never. Death is what you love to have in a spread that has a ‘bad card’ because it makes, say, Ten of Swords, mean ‘not a disaste

Fool today is about freedom, not caring, and ‘no reason’ mainly, today.

The illustration bears some explanation. He is on a foot journey without provisions for himself or the dog. He is not looking where he is going, and is about to skip off a cliff.

As I pointed out, you see negative words in Fool’s very positive vocabulary – things like ‘for no reason,’ ‘doesn’t remember,’ being unaware,’ ‘doesn’t know’ and ‘have no idea,’ ‘not there,’ ‘not the one,’ ‘without,’ and ‘isn’t about to.’

When Fool gets together with Death, this makes a reader trip over Death as a negative modifier. A double negative is a positive in English but not in the romance languages – don’t know how that would work out in those – but in English, sometimes you have to do a double take, retrace, look at surrounding cards (if any) to understand what the sentence is telling you.

Fool and Death, when their meanings blend peacefully, say ‘not free,’ ‘don’t forget,’ ‘can’t ignore,’ ‘not openminded,’ ‘no fear of death,’ ‘the subconscious is not,’ and ‘I don’t care how it ends.

Death and Ace of Pentacles is of course ‘not the right way’ and ‘wasn’t on the road. The main thing you expect when these two get together is ‘not correct’ and ‘don’t have the money.’

Ace of Pentacles and Fool are most likely to bring up not caring about paying, being paid, or money. They also mean ‘don’t care if I am (or it is, or someone else is) correct.’ With Ace of Pentacles being reward or ‘getting the credit for,’ these two say ‘Don’t care if I get credit for it’ or ‘not expecting to be reimbursed.’

Note that both Ace of Pentacles and Fool share the concept of being ‘on the right path.’ Fool stresses living in the spirit, living unconsciously (or subconsciously, in the spirit), not paying attention to what people refer to as ‘the cares of this world.’

All four of the Rider Waite Tarot cards at our Tarot table today are about money, and three say ‘having good money.’ The other, Four of Pentacles is holding onto it, or being short of it.

 

Three of Wands is money coming in, and income. Good things coming for sure is another strong meaning. Often it translates ‘continue’ or ‘continuing,’ since those ships are steadily approaching. He is waiting for them, so Three of Wands will translate ‘waiting.’ It is one of the cards that put the other cards into future form, often by adding ‘will’ or ‘will be’ to the sentence.

The fellow who owns the town’s real estate stands on his mansion’s rooftop patio planning how to get some more money out of that real estate and be a bigger success. Two of Wands is having the money: financial security, financial plan, real estate, long term, a plan or planning, a good outlook (for anything), a bank or banker, pension, your savings, a rich person’s power and influence. Two of Wands, too, is a future oriented Tarot card. It too puts the sentence into future tense at times, often by adding ‘going to,’ ‘will’ or ‘will be.’

A fellow sits on the road hugging his money. The town is behind him. He probably is not welcome there. The main use of Four of Pentacles is being short or shortage or shortfall, not having enough, feeling inferior or ‘not good enough,’ budgeting or being thrifty.

Hanging onto money and hugging himself brings up secrets and clinging to anything else (like, say a memory) … and hugs, and deep-down-inside internal life, deep feelings, keeping something to yourself or private. ‘Not divulge’ and ‘not talking’ too – as well as sulking.

Lesser meanings of Four of Pentacles include being out of town in the sense of secrecy (‘We meet out of town because’), being exiled or isolated or shut out. Four of Pentacles can be ‘classified information’ as well.

 

Ace of Pentacles is successful, has the money, is right, is on the right track. It is the prize, the reward, and possessing that. This is such a good card it means ‘perfect,’ and is a ‘Yes’ answer if it appears as one of the Self cards in a Celtic Cross spread. It unites spiritual (‘on the right path’) success with financial success (money in hand) in its illustration: The hand with the gold is over the straight and narrow path.

Both Ace of Pentacles and Two of Wands are money in hand, secure possession of money.

 

So how bad could it be? Our spread begins with income and ends with a lot of money in hand .

Three of Wands Waiting for my ship to come in, the illustration says: The merchant stands on the hill looking at the ships that bring him his income. Income and money (or good things) coming in for sure. Three of Wands means ‘continue and ‘the future’ and ‘looking forward to’ as well. It can translate ‘will,’ ‘will be’ or ‘going to’ and put its sentence into future tense.

 

Two of Wands again is the future, the (rosy) outlook, money in hand, real estate investor or investments, financial security, a bank or banker, a plan or financial plan, the long term. Picture here on the Rider Waite Tarot card is the fellow … I love it … with the world in his hands standing on his patio roof gazing … oh so well-dressed … out over the town that he owns, making plans for more-more-more. Two of Wands, too, is a future oriented Tarot card. It too puts the sentence into future tense at times, often by adding ‘going to,’ ‘will’ or ‘will be.’

 

Four of Pentacles clutches his money to himself, sitting outside the town, gazing impassively ahead. Something private and secret is within him. So his Rider Waite Tarot card speaks of exactly these things: being short of money, holding onto money, budgeting or thrift, keeping something to yourself, a secret, a deep-down-inside feeling, and to be out of town in the sense of secrecy. Some other meanings are not used here.

 

Ace of Pentacles is one of the cards whose main meaning you don’t have to be told:  money in hand, prize in possession.  You can also see the right path, and being on the right track, can’t you? The hand with the gold is over the straight and narrow path, indicating spiritual and financial success go hand in hand. Ace of Pentacles often translates ‘success’ and ‘successful.’ It also means perfect, and ‘in possession of.’

Three of Wands    He stands overlooking the harbor, eyeballing his ship coming in with his profit.  This is about income, this is about future.

 

Four of Pentacles     He is holding his money close to his chest, clutching himself.  He has some deep but hidden feelings, and is sitting outside of the town.  Today he is about not having enough money.

 

Ace of Pentacles    A hand with money in it is, of course, about money – about keeping or giving or paying it.  It’s also about success, held, as it is, over the straight road that has lilies (purity) at the beginning and a rose trellis (victory) at its end.

 

Ten of Pentacles    The family quarrel that is depicted makes this (one of the marriage cards) about dysfunctional relationships, dysfunctional people, people who have trouble or who are trouble.

 

 

EXPLANATIONS:

Each and every ‘Tarot Reading’ sentence you see is a literal interpretation of the four Rider Waite Tarot cards drawn and pictured for today. (The literal interpretation is from the illustration on each card.) These sentences are put together by only combining the phrases of what each cards says. In other words, there are NO “filler” phrases added just to make full sentences, and no psychic ability or spirit guide is ever involved.

 

*Without a question* in a group reading to focus the answer, the four Tarot cards can mean quite contradictory things, especially when the Spread has a card that means ‘no,’ ‘never’ or ‘not.’ These negative modifiers can apply to any one of the other cards.
*Without a question* in a group reading, the pronouns (you, him, her, me, us, them, they, etc.) are more flexible. Whenever you see a pronoun in parentheses, please *feel very free* to substitute another pronoun than the one used. I try to drop pronouns when possible, which, if you’ve noticed, can make for awkward phrasing.

Now in an ‘real’ individual reading, the questioner asks a specific question and thereby supplies at least half the information! In an individual situation, the parties are identified and sometimes a time frame is too. Here, in a group reading we cannot do that and so we get a variety of sentences.

Horoscopes are group readings, too. Astrology is based on someone else’s birth data, though, so a ‘solar’ group horoscope never really solidly applies to you! (Astrologers know this!)

Tarot, on the other hand, is perfectly capable of flexibly addressing any group, including all of the visitors that come to this site. It can also address people you might not even know personally, such as all the people at your job who have a say in whether or not you get a raise.

We have been wondering here lately whether the Tarot Verbatim(TM) sentences are more accurate for regular visitors than they are for people who visit this site only once in awhile or for a short time. This is a free credit card from the cosmos,  people! Judgment means a change,  a sudden shift,  a new consciousness. The other three cards refer to having money,  two of them specifically meaning lots of it.

 

So Three of Pentacles is income and money coming to (you);  Ace of Pentacles is a large sum of money and possessing it (and success,  and  ‘on the right track’);  Empress is being comfortable in an abundant life,  having it all.  She is grateful.  She can be pregnant,  too,  along with the other forms of  ‘fertility.’  She is kind of the female Nine of Cups,  except she has all these overtones of being beautiful and fertility.

 

So good times are on their way to you,  and you possess this by realizing it.  (Think! Think!)

Three of Wands Your Ships Are Coming In is the obvious meaning just looking at it.  He is waiting,  eyeballing the ships and knowing confidently he will have his merchandise and/or his profit.

 

Ace of Pentacles … have the money in his possession,  a significant sum.  This is the result of being on the right track or path.  Success generally in any category including spiritual.  This Rider Waite Tarot card links spiritual path to having money and to success.  I chose it as the cover of my Ebook I wrote a few months ago.

 

Judgment The resurrection story has several elements which are the core meanings of the Rider Waite Judgment card.  A sudden change,  a shift of consciousness,  recovery or revitalization (‘re-‘ anything),  a new life or new phase,  a return to a former condition (or  ‘again’) and suddenly.  It also refers to an announcement,  news,  a loud sound or shout.

 

Empress  ‘Sitting Pretty.’  Luxury.  Comfort.  Abundant life,  Lady Bountiful.  Fertility principle.  Beautiful woman,  beloved.  Pregnant.  It’s all in the illustration in Rider Waite Tarot as usual.  She has everything and she is gratefully enjoying it on soft cushions.

Four of Pentacles is being short of money,  holding onto money,  keeping something to yourself,  a secret,  a deep-down-inside feeling,  and to be out of town in the sense of secrecy.  Ace of Pentacles is big money,  success,  perfect,  on the right path or track.

 

So how bad could it be?  You begin with income and end with a lot of money in possession.

Three of Wands Waiting for my ship to come in,  the illustration says:  The merchant stands on the hill looking at the ships that bring him his income.  Income and money (or good things) coming in.  It means  ‘continue’  and  ‘the future’  and  ‘looking forward to’  as well.

 

Two of Wands again is the future,  the (rosy) outlook,  money in hand,  real estate investor or investments,  financial security,  a bank or banker,  a plan or financial plan,  the long term.  Picture here on the Rider Waite Tarot card is the fellow … I love it … with the world in his hands standing on his patio roof gazing … oh so well-dressed … out over the town that he owns, making plans for more-more-more.

 

Four of Pentacles clutches his money to himself,  sitting outside the town,  gazing impassively ahead.  Something private and secret is within him.  So his Rider Waite Tarot card speaks of exactly these things:  being short of money,  holding onto money,  budgeting or thrift,  keeping something to yourself,  a secret,  a deep-down-inside feeling,  and to be out of town in the sense of secrecy.   Some other meanings are not used here.

 

Ace of Pentacles is one of the cards whose main meaning you don’t have to be told:  money in hand,  prize in possession.  You can also see the right path,  and being on the right track,  can’t you?  It also means perfect,  and  ‘in possession of.’
