Eight of Wands

You can count on Eight of Wands; it is an anchor card. It has few meanings, and they are ‘old reliables.’ Three main branches hath the Eight of Wands meaning tree:

(1) It makes plurals.

(2) It refers to any communication at all, written or verbal or any data – it even can say ‘writing’ as a verb. It means text or document, and even means ‘texting.’

(3) Eight of Wands means ‘increasingly’ and ‘more and more’ in all sorts of ways. This Tarot card in Tarot Verbatim adds suffixes like ‘-er,’ ‘-iest,’ and ‘-ier.’

Besides these, Eight of Wands often means ‘quickly’ or similar words, and it sometimes refers to movement – as today when it says ‘coming at you.’

Eight of Wands means ‘one after another,’ means ‘over and over again,’ means ‘another’ and means ‘to repeat,’ too.

It makes plurals because there’s one board after another, and that’s also how it means all the ‘increasingly’ or ‘one after the other’ synonyms. The boards are flying through the air fast, so Eight of Wands means quickly. Occasionally it will refer to flying or being airborne.

Although its main meaning is destiny and the coincidences of karma, Wheel of Fortune is also luck, miracle, a windfall or jackpot, a chance and taking a chance, a chance or opportunity, ‘wonderful,’ and the best thing that ever happened. This ‘best thing’ can be in retrospect rather than the ‘wish is granted’ you get from Nine of Cups. Wheel of Fortune can simply translate forms of the word ‘happen’ – often.

The Wheel of Fortune illustration looks like a roulette wheel and the iconic animals and angels with books suggest spiritual influences on what happens in what we call ‘the real world,’ the physical reality.

Eight of Wands is your plural-maker for the ‘things.’ The ‘happen for the best’ is Wheel of Fortune of course. And Queen of Wands is at home. Eight of Wands and Wheel of Fortune also say ‘one lucky coincidence after another,’ with Eight of Wands being ‘one after another’ and Wheel of Fortune being, as usual, the lucky coincidence. Wheel of Fortune is also opportunity, and Eight of Wands can simply make it say ‘opportunities,’ adding the plural and disappearing.

Queen of Wands is the practical and pragmatic dame with her head screwed on straight, and she will keep you and yours straight too because she is the manager. Put Wheel of Fortune next to her like we have here, and she is a miracle-worker.

When she is in charge, things happen fast too – because Wheel of Fortune is ‘happen’ and Eight of Wands is ‘fast.’ Happen fast, that’s a common phrase for us to remember here.

Wheel of Fortune and Queen of Wands say ‘lucky woman,’ so they also say ‘lucky to have that wife or woman.’

Eight of Wands is talk, so you talk to your mother when Queen of Wands joins Eight of Wands – or your wife, or the manager. Wheel of Fortune says you are lucky to. Wheel of Fortune can make Eight of Wands ‘wonderful things to say,’ with Wheel of Fortune being wonderful, and Eight of Wands being both the ‘things’ and the ‘to say.’ (You can double up on meanings like this if it makes a nice natural statement.)

Queen of Wands is ‘home,’ so Wheel of Fortune brings the idea of luck to house or home, so ‘a chance to have a home of your own.’

Eight of Wands has another easily overlooked talent: It can add the gerund form, the ‘-ing’ form to indicate a continuing process (like Two of Pentacles does). So it turns Queen of Wands having her house in order to ‘getting her house in order.’

Eight of Wands can be paperwork (the writing, the documents, etc.), and Queen of Wands is the woman with the ability to manage, so you have ‘Her wonderful ability to manage the paperwork. Queen of Wands is the ‘her ability’ and the ‘manage’ here. Eight of Wands is the paperwork. And naturally, Wheel of Fortune is ‘wonderful’ again.

This is Tarot Verbatim’s modified Celtic Cross spread, originally designed to, in six spreads, use each of 78 cards.  When I did this, I noticed ‘3 sentences,’ with the last being the three-card outcome.  The second, of course is the three cards below that, which Tarot spreads refer to as ‘the tower’ because this spread originally sprang from Celtic outdoor structures which had meaning for those people.  The rest of the cards, the beginning part, is referred to as ‘the cross’ because, again, of outdoor structures.

Celtic Cross spreads, as you can see, have positions that cards’ meanings apply to. This is the standard way most Tarot readers read Tarot. (They pay less attention to the meanings cards have in common than Tarot Verbatim™ does.)

.

These positions suggest reading a clump of the cards together (Self-Cover-Cross, or as I think of it, Self-Situation-Problem is the first clump. Then you do the ‘arms of the cross, which are the horizontal and vertical pairs of ‘the cross.’

.

The question here is from the executor of a murdered man’s estate. Things are a mess, and Client has been threatened a lot, and had a lot of theft. Client’s belief is that the deceased may be helping out with the situation, which is really about Deceased’s business and life rather than Client’s. (Yes, I have permission to post this to you.)

Three of Wands – Three of Wands obviously says ‘Your ship is coming in.’ And that covers most of its meanings. The ‘is coming’ not only brings meanings about approaching and becoming, but also about future tense, and continuing. And of course the ship coming in is about income and what pays off, and profit.

Today we use the ‘is coming in’ category heavily. Here are phrases from it: Is on the way into, is coming her way, are coming your way, is coming to, here comes a, is developing, you are getting, it’s coming, and ‘will be.’ And the ‘continuing’ phrases that we use today are: continue to be, and ‘time passes.’

Three of Wands expresses the gerund, the ‘-ing’ form of verbs, Today we have a few ‘making’ phrases: to keep making; as you are more …, you make more; you are making.

GET A SINGLE CARD’S MEANINGS: TYPE ITS NAME AND ‘TAROT VERBATIM’ INTO GOOGLE.

Three of Wands      Three of Wands is arguably the simplest card in the Rider Waite system because it has the most direct connection between the illustration and the meanings. So this is the card to look at first when it appears in your spread; it is an anchor card (my term). You see a person waiting for ships; he is looking at them. So you have ‘coming to’; you have waiting; you have income or something good on the way (The check is in the mail.); and you are looking ahead. ‘When my ship comes in’ is a common saying.

Looking ahead, in Three of Wands, often puts future tense, or future words, onto the surrounding cards. Can’t tell you how often Three of Wands just says ‘will’ or will be.’ It says ‘going to’ – all such phrases.

This is one of the financial cards too: It refers strongly to income, profit, and to financial future (as Two of Wands directly does also). It says ‘going to be profitable’ and it indicates that, yes, you WILL collect the money if that is the question. Sometimes it indicates you can afford something. (It is only a support card for future payments, though.)

Three of Wands also owns: continuing, continuously, continues to, etc. ‘In the process’ belongs to Three of Wands, meaning happening continuously over time.

Judgment      Judgment shows an angel waking the dead, who stand in coffins floating on a sea. (Large bodies of water in Tarot represent consciousness and mass consciousness.)

The resurrection story has several elements which are the core meanings of the Rider Waite Judgment card. A sudden change, a shift of consciousness, recovery or revitalization (‘re-‘ anything), a new life or new phase, a return to a former condition, and suddenly. A sudden dramatic surprise is Judgment’s application most of the time. (Waking the dead is, yes, a dramatic surprise.)

We are leaving out some meanings that do not apply here, like the noise of the horn.

Here are some more of Judgment’s meanings we use today: recover, to come back or return to a place; announcement or telling, the second time; unexpected; it’s here or comes up or it pops up; realize; in a big way; good news.

Wheel of Fortune      Wheel of Fortune is, as its name implies, good luck. It is about the role of coincidence, chance, destiny, karma, or fate in what happens. The meaning of its complex illustration is that spiritual influences, good ones and bad ones, affect events in what we call ‘the real world.’

Some of the mythical creatures are bad spirits, and the ones with books probably refer to the record of our lives that we hear about in various religions.

In the center of the wheel that reminds me of roulette (chance), interspersed, are the four Hebrew letters of the divine name which Jews won’t pronounce out of reverence, and the four letters of what, in more than one myth, means ‘wheel of fortune.’ That word is ‘rota,’ and it means wheel, and it’s the root word of ‘rotate.’ One of those myths is about Apollo, and the ‘rota’ is associated with the end of the earth in that myth. The end of the earth is where the dragons (bad spirits) live. You see that pictured in Moon too: the towers there are in the myth of which I speak.

Wheel of Fortune and Ten of Cups together say ‘wonderful life for us.’ These two Rider Waite Tarot cards give you that ‘Finally I made it’ feeling. Wheel of Fortune is a stroke of luck, ‘wonderful,’ an opportunity or chance, winning (including at gambling), it happens, optimum, best, and destined or destiny. Ten of Cups is family or a circle of people, ‘happily-ever-after,’ a good home life, good people, good neighborhood, happiness and joy and celebrating. It means ‘us’ and ‘people’ and ‘everybody’ too. It is a house or residence, and not a public building.

Three of Wands is income, good things are coming, future, looking ahead or looking forward to, waiting. It translates ‘will,’ ‘will be’ and ‘going to’ often. Three of Wands and Ten of Cups both refer to prosperity: Three of Wands is money coming in, and Ten of Cups is the good prosperous life.

 

Let’s look at some phrases our money cards make today.

 

Three of Wands and Wheel of Fortune say things like ‘Your lucky day is coming’ and ‘income opportunity’ and ‘the best thing will happen.’

Three of Wands and Page of Pentacles know the money is coming and know the future. They also say ‘He will be thinking about that.’

Three of Wands and Ten of Cups are going to marry and live happily ever after. These two cards also say ‘a house you can afford,’ ‘will be together,’ and ‘money comes in for the couple.’

Wheel of Fortune and Page of Pentacles juxtapose a miracle happening with picturing it or thinking of it. He knew that was going to happen; he knew he would win the jackpot. Visualize that miracle!

The remaining card, Page of Pentacles, is a person, usually a young person and usually a fellow. Its main meaning is to think, to contemplate, to visualize, to study, to look at or watch. This is another young person of good reputation who aims to fit into society, and it means a student too.

Three of Wands screams “Your ships are coming in.” The illustration shows a well dressed figure just waiting for the ships he is watching to come in with his money and his merchandise.  Meanings for this Rider Waite Tarot card are:  income, continuing, future, waiting is coming to you,  is going to [do/make happen/etc.], will, will be ___ing, can afford, upcoming, forever, continuously.

 

Wheel of Fortune The name says it all, and the roulette wheel gizmo with the occult symbols on it are another big hint. Meanings for this Rider Waite Tarot card are:  wonderful, it happens, lucky/luck/luckily/fortunately, destiny, optimum, opportunity, chance, the best, happens for the best, fortune, a good thing, windfall, and “Wow!”

 

Page of Pentacles We see a young person thoughtfully concentrating on the pentacle, neatly dressed, good posture, the low-mileage face of youth. Meanings for this Rider Waite Tarot card are:  to think or contemplate, concentrate, look at, idea, self, student, young person, your, his, he, envision.

 

Ten of Cups The Walt Disney or Forties movies idea of marriage and community and family:  The house in the suburbs with the rainbow over the roof, the couple hugging sideways while the requisite boy and girl prance around … without the dog?  Meanings for this Rider Waite Tarot card are: family, happy, happy family, marriage or marry or marrying, a couple, happily-ever-after, togetherness or together, everybody, everybody gets along, community (or any group in a usually positive way), celebrate, married with children, home, house in the suburbs, single family house, all the ___ people, utopia, the good life, unanimous, the good people of (whatever).

When you focus more on Page of Swords’ fearful wondering, you get a more negative sentence.

Page of Swords is that nervous fellow or gal who twists the hair and stutters, the person who gives credence to whatever is threatening. It is that feeling you get when things do go bump in the night. It’s paranoia, it’s hyper-alertness, and, yes, it’s being in a dangerous situation and not knowing.

Pictured is a civilian with an upraised weapon whirling around on a grassy knoll in a windstorm, anxiously looking in all directions.

 

 

Three of Wands is seeing your ships coming in, and that is what is on the Rider Waite Tarot illustration if you remind yourself that the ocean is yellow there. This card refers to events being in the future, and Three of Wands often simply adds the future tense, as in ‘will be’ to a sentence.

 

 

Wheel of Fortune almost always is a stroke of luck – an opportunity, if not a miracle. It also refers to a happening, an event, destiny, and even coincidence. It means karma and it means ‘a chance’ as well. Pictured is what looks like a roulette wheel with all kinds of occult symbols and critters all over the card. In between the letters. in a circle, of T, A, R and O are the letters in a circle of the Name of God, four characters that make up what Christians pronounce as ‘Jehovah’ or ‘Yahweh.’ To Jews, reverence requires not saying it. The meaning expressed in Wheel of Fortune is that both divine and infernal spirits affect events.

 

 

Seven of Pentacles is that feeling of watching for the pot to boil. He speculates, as he tends the plants, on whether his cucumber plants will bear fruit … whether he has both genders of the plant which are necessary for fruiting to occur. Seven of Pentacles is one of what I call the ‘Duh’ cards.

We have three wonderful Rider Waite Tarot cards, and right in the middle is that snot, Five of Swords, the bully in Tarot Verbatim (TM), the one who takes advantage, the dude with Cheney’s sneer. So he will be making the story; he will be the star card.

Justice is ‘should’ and ‘entitled’ as well as ‘fair’ and other terms that mean just and justice. It represents the whole of the court, police, and regulatory systems – the justice industry, I call it. It means getting what you deserve whether that is good or bad.

Three of Wands is good things coming, waiting, income, money coming in, and generally the future (and future tense).

Wheel of Fortune is the miracle, the jackpot or windfall, the wonderful (whatever), luck and lucky, ‘happens’ or an event. It is destiny or karma.

Justice You see a robed seated figure with the scales of justice in one hand and the sword of execution in the other, the title being ‘justice,’ so you know. Justice is ‘should’ and ‘entitled’ as well as ‘fair’ and other terms that mean just and justice. It represents the whole of the court, police, and regulatory systems – the justice industry, I call it. It means getting what you deserve whether that is good or bad.

Five of Swords The one with the smirk claims it was a real sword fight, and not a play one, that he won, so he is taking his friends’ weapons … and therefore their feudal ands. Five of Swords is the bully in Tarot Verbatim (TM), the one who takes advantage, the dude with Cheney’s sneer. He is the thief, the abuser, the punk, the bill collector … all those guys.

Three of wands is about good things coming, waiting, income, money coming in, and generally the future (and future tense).

 

Wheel of Fortune ‘Out there’ controls coincidence, and coincidence controls everything, this Rider Waite card says. The critters with books surround the roulette wheel with God’s Hebrew name and ‘ROTA,’ which is an occult term, on it. Wheel of Fortune is the miracle, the jackpot or windfall, the wonderful (whatever), luck and lucky, ‘happens’ or an event. It is destiny or karma.

Each Tarot sentence is a literal-interpretation reading of the scenes pictured on the four cards you see. Only what each of the cards says – phrase by phrase – no fillers – no psychic ability used. The readings are about you and the people around you.  They are about today and the days around it. Tarot, all by itself, talks to you. This is a demonstration of that .

Tarot will address any group flexibly, as it does here of ‘all the visitors.’ (It can address ‘all the people at work who have a say in my raise,’ for instance, without you knowing who or where those people are.)

Horoscopes are group readings too.

Astrology has to be based on someone else’s birth data, though, so it does not solidly apply to you just because of where the sun was when you were born. (Astrologers know this.)

 

Emily wants to know whether these sentences are more accurate for regular visitors than for people who have come only a few times. Would you help with a comment, if that is who you are? Please?

Without a question to focus the answer, four cards can mean contradictory things,  especially when the Spread has a card that means ‘no, never or not.’ That negative modifier can apply to any one of the cards.

Without a question also the pronouns (you, him, her, me, us, them, they, etc.) in a group reading are more flexible,  especially in some of these Rider Waite Tarot spreads.  When a pronoun is in parentheses, feel very free to substitute.  Notice how, as much as possible, we drop pronouns, which makes for some awkward phrasing.

The question in a ‘real’ individual reading supplies at least half the information! In a ‘real’ reading, the parties are identified (including the gender of the questioner!), and so is the time frame if there is one. In this group reading, we cannot do that, so we have variety.

Advice Sometimes luck happens on all fronts of your life at the same time.  We call that a lucky streak,  don’t we?  Money comes in and you think of a house and marriage.  Just when a young student is looking at getting married or living together,  a windfall happens like a tailwind to a sailboat.  So we have real estate,  income,  windfall and happily-ever-after.  Keep thinking of having the good life and it will happen.

(At the time of production,  there’s no way to correct the lack of spaces after punctuation.  I am writing around it now!)

Wheel of Fortune  The name says it all,  and the roulette wheel gizmo with the occult symbols on it are another big hint.  Meanings for this Rider Waite Tarot card are:  wonderful,  it happens,  lucky/luck/luckily/fortunately,  destiny,  optimum,  opportunity,  chance,  the best,  happens for the best,  fortune,  a good thing, windfall, and “Wow!”

 

Page of Pentacles  We see a young person thoughtfully concentrating on the pentacle,  neatly dressed,  good posture,  the low-mileage face of youth.  Meanings for this Rider Waite Tarot card are:  to think or contemplate,  concentrate,  look at,  idea,  self,  student,  young person,  your,  his,  he,  envision.

 

Ten of Cups The Walt Disney or Forties movies idea of marriage and community and family:  The house in the suburbs with the rainbow over the roof,  the couple hugging sideways while the requisite boy and girl prance around … without the dog?  Meanings for this Rider Waite Tarot card are:  family,  happy,  happy family,  marriage or marry or marrying,  a couple,  happily-ever-after,  togetherness or together,  everybody,  everybody gets along,  community  (or any group in a usually positive way),  celebrate,  married with children,  home,  house in the suburbs,  single family house,  all the ___ people,  utopia,  the good life,  unanimous,  the good people of (whatever).  This could be Jerry Falwell’s moral majority,  I’m afraid.

Then Wheel of Fortune comes just short of guaranteeing that what is coming is that miracle, windfall, breakthrough, lucky break ….

 

Three of the four Rider Waite Tarot cards refer to the future (Page of Swords is fear of, Three of Wands is solid hope for, and Seven of Pentacles is wondering about).

 

If you accentuate Page of Swords’ fearful wondering, you get a more negative sentence.

 

MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS: INDIVIDUAL RIDER WAITE TAROT CARDS

 

Page of Swords is that nervous fellow or gal who twists the hair and stutters, the person who gives credence to whatever is threatening. It is that feeling you get when things do go bump in the night. It’s paranoia, it’s hyper-alertness, and, yes, it’s being in a dangerous situation and not knowing.

 

Pictured is a civilian with an upraised weapon standing on a grassy knoll in a windstorm, looking in all directions anxiously.

 

Three of Wands is seeing your ships coming in, and that is what is on the Rider Waite Tarot illustration. It refers to events being in the future, and often simply adds the future tense, as in ‘will be’ to the sentence.

 

Wheel of Fortune almost always is a stroke of luck – an opportunity, if not a miracle. It also refers to a happening, an event, destiny, and even coincidence. It means ‘a chance’ as well. Pictured is what looks like a roulette wheel with all kinds of occult symbols and critters all over the card. In between the letters T, A, R and O are occult symbols of the cycle of creation which refers to those male and female principles we have mentioned here.

 

Seven of Pentacles is that feeling of watching for the pot to boil. He speculates on whether his cucumber plants will bear fruit … whether he has both genders of the plant, which are necessary for fruiting to occur.

Meanings and Illustrations: Observation of the Spread

Two of our four today mean waiting, time passing. Ten of Wands is about slow progress, about taking on the whole thing all at once, doing it the hard way, straining … but (he) will make it, step by step. Three of Wands is just waiting, your ships are coming in based on whatever was already done in the past. Both these imply a good future.

To the left of these, the very first card is the Wonderful Wheel of Fortune that means you hit the jackpot. Nice to see this combined with the Three of Wands which speaks of ships coming in and of continuing.

The final citizen of today’s spread is Ten of Pentacles, the family or group who are, and/or who have a problem or troubles. This card associates easily with wealth, so it reflects that theme – of money – in Three of Wands and and Wheel of Fortune. So three of four Rider Waite Tarot cards here refer to prosperity.

Ten of Wands and Ten of Pentacles refer to problems, troubles. Ten of Wands is the big burden that slows you down, and Ten of Pentacles in Rider Waite is about people problems.

Many of the meanings of today’s sentences are based on the Ten of Wands-Ten of Pentacles problem making a Wheel of Fortune-Three of Wands money opportunity.

Meanings and Illustrations: Individual Rider Waite Tarot Cards

Wheel of Fortune is winning the lottery, lucking out, being favored by destiny, coincidence being on your side, and ‘it happens.’ The illustration shows a roulette wheel sort of design, with lots of funky occult symbols.

Ten of Wands is taking on the whole burden, doing it all at once, slow progress in a difficult project, doing it the hard way. We haven’t seen this fellow here in a while, have we? His illustration shows the fellow overloaded with all those boards, slowly toting them somewhere.

Ten of Pentacles are people with a problem, people who are a problem, a dysfunctional crew, circle, family or gang. Politicians or mobsters or your cousins. Its illustration shows grandpa in a throne of a chair leaning back while the parents of the squalling grandkid have one of those marital discussions that we all have been through. Guy stares into space while woman presents her side. The family dogs favor grandpa.

Three of Wands Just wait, it’s coming. Things continue to be prosperous and the outlook is jus’ fine. Its illustration shows the merchant on a hill watching the ships carrying his merchandise and his payments to him. He is feeling pretty good, we think.
