Three examples (three questions) from one person of Email Reading are a study in going ahead and (carefully) answering when the material seems contradictory. They are also an example of why my instructions to Email buyers are that it’s better to say that someone in a love story is married (especially, not to the love interest). In the questions of this reading, I do not know that, so I read in the alternative – meaning, I say it means this, or that, or that. It turns out that it all does make sense to Querant, who explains that it’s all true ….

….. …….…… ….. First thing that grabs your attention here is that both Four of Cups and World are blocking influences out that are close by, and doing that deliberately: shutting out ‘incoming.’

Then you notice the other card is the ‘incoming.’ (Remember M.A.S.H.?)

Both Four of Cups and Three of Wands indicate this is a continuing process, not a one-time event. (The ship is on its way, and the offers are refused as they arise.)

So we have a loud and clear, very focused, message today. The process of something not happening obviously can refer to anything.

GET A SINGLE CARD’S MEANINGS: TYPE ITS NAME AND ‘TAROT VERBATIM’ INTO GOOGLE.

Four of Cups Four of Cups says ‘no.’ Says ‘no way’ repeatedly. Refuses, ignores, doesn’t listen, doesn’t respond, doesn’t let himself, not going to, restrain from action, turns it down, it doesn’t go through, isn’t interested. Once in a while it means to prevent, and once in a while it means to resist, including resist temptation. Four of Cups can even say ‘The buck stops here.’ Four of Cups can be a warning to refuse a drink, and can be a person who is giving up drinking. And Four of Cups can stoop to being a common negative modifier.

Three of Wands Three of Wands is not himself today. He is an ‘ahead’ kind of guy, but his ‘always’ is turning into ‘never.’ He is about your ship coming in, and he is surrounded on all sides by Tarot cards that say: NOT. So all his profit, paycheck and money meanings are bye-bye. He is about the future and future tense, and the cards on either side say ‘not getting through.’ So where he would have said anything was going to happen, he is now forced to say it’s never going to happen.

What he continues to do now is to ‘be out of the loop’ and such non-happenings.

World World You could say World has a world of meanings. I shall write a World book someday, but not right here right now. First, today, World echoes Four of Cups’ theme of refusing and not getting through, ‘not getting any attention from me.’ We elaborate on that a little in phrases like: nothing interferes, the door sealed shut (‘Color me out of the picture.’), and rejecting and repelling incoming (undesired) influences.

Next, we pick up the core and deep meaning of World, of being superior, being immune to trouble, spiritual maturity ( a grownup), superior skill, operating at a higher level, having mastered a skill. World is free, dancing nude with her wands inside her wreath of iron, is ‘unencumbered.’

World dances to the different drummer: Her illustration is probably where the saying comes from. World says ‘doing my own thing’ and World ‘minds her own business’ today.

The wreath can be interpreted in reverse at times – keeping her in, rather than World keeping entities out. Here we have the ‘keep her in the dark,’ and ‘excluded.’

Here is what makes sense of that illustration: World is ‘Master of Both Worlds,’ the highest title for a magician. It means rubbing shoulders with the angels and being able to work the demons too. She is dancing nude with wands (see Chariot and his powerful wands too – as well as Magician) in her private space, and all those bad-guy entities are not even looking her way.

Sometimes the World card is about an object, like a seawall or a filter … not today.

What if you found yourself in a room with each decade of yourself all together? And what if that included your future self, and even your toddler self – that you could speak with? Would you like one another? Would the things you ‘grew out of’ get in the way? Would things you didn’t grow into haunt the room for you? We are examining the line we draw in the etheric sand as time turns us into other things and makes us forget who we were as we move along … or makes us not want to remember that. We view the maturing process from the perspective of what we are adopting and what we are shedding as we go along in real time.

.………..………. .……..…….. Here we have a contrast, at both ends of our spread. Knight of Pentacles (over there on the left) has one interest, one thing on his mind, one aim – is selective. World (over there on the right) shuts out all influences and is in a world of her own, has her own unique and private interests, undisturbed, not interfered with – is selective. The card in the center is a profitable future. You get the impression, in this spread, that the One-thing-on-their-minds people are counterbalanced by the Don’t-give-me-that people, making a good future.

By now, you as a regular visitor know how Tarot sees parallels that we (as mundane-consciousness beings) don’t experience as related at all. That’s the difference between not-conscious and conscious thinking. Tarot makes the point that the interplay between *a guy with one thing on this mind*, and *a gal who has heard all that before and ain’t interested* is the same interplay between *people who aim to be influential and get their will done upon the rest of us* and *the natural disinterest ‘the rest of us’ have* re their concerted effort to move us. Inertia counterbalances the force of self-interest.

Getting down to a gutter level, this spread says that people who have been fucked over naturally resist – and are imperious or sealed-off from – the type of people who fucked them over in the past. Fool me once, and you don’t fool me twice. And, further, that this process is beneficial for the future.

The contrast of World being about bad stuff not getting in (not getting to you), and Three of Wands being good stuff coming in: This is the key to the message today. We focus on factors and strategies that do get us where we are going and we avoid factors and strategies that do not get us where we are going.

Knight of Pentacles……. Knight of Pentacles focuses on essentials; he (or she) is a minimalist. We are going to meet our quota, our goal – going to arrive where we aim to. We are limiting our scope, lasing down. Knight of Pentacles is driven and has great energy. This is you zeroing in on something.

He is able-bodied, muscular (most likely), sturdy, and hands-on, possibly a ruffian. Knight of Pentacles is a commoner, or has the common touch, the street, in his personality. Self-interest is paramount with this guy: He is all about Him. He is determined and decisive. Knight of Pentacles isn’t much of a team player; more of an entrepreneur.

Knight of Pentacles today puts that drive behind his interest in a trophy woman, a gorgeous-bodied and superior dame. He becomes obsessed with that one-of-a-kind woman. Today he is deciding to wait for that perfect woman.

Knight of Pentacles is also famous for being interested in money, and in getting ahead. He isn’t just dreaming, isn’t just a hotshot looking for a windfall – no, he will be putting those strong shoulders to the wheel, to get that vehicle where he wants it to go. Notice he has chosen a horse as sturdy as he is.

Three of Wands …….. Mostly today Three of Wands is future tense, although it joins Knight of Pentacles in an interest in money. Three of Wands does refer to continual action here, too, as well as to waiting, and ‘the future.’

Note that when you put a card that has a negative connotation within it next to a card like Three of Wands that is the future, you get ‘will never be’ instead of ‘will be.’ This modifying effect is a good thing to keep an eye out for and to keep in mind.

World……World is resistant to everything: World is in a world of her own, dancing to a different drummer with both of her magic wands, wearing her birthday suit. You see in the illustration a circle around her that makes her invisible to, and shuts out, all those troublemakers around her. One of World’s meanings is: You cannot influence her, or interfere with her. You cannot even contact her – can’t get through – either. She translates ‘not interested’ and ‘minds her own business’ often. (Note that Strength, also a spiritual woman, means ‘cannot be interfered with.’)

This ‘resistant to everything’ includes Mr. One-Thing-on-His-Mind in today’s layout. (Note this World card can serve as advice for a woman to be hard-to-get or unavailable.) World also applies to a very strong immune system.

The core meaning of World is that a person who is spiritually adept is untouchable on the physical plane … isn’t really connected to it directly. You find this same meaning in Fool. There is truth to this: People sense otherworldly power and back off from it.

But World, via the illustration, is also the dancer, the sexy woman, the trophy woman. This card can appear for a transgender person because, esoterically speaking, people who have the ‘master of both worlds’ skill, as World does, are considered both male and female, as advanced creatures.

Occasionally, you find World translating ‘what I am not,’ and such phrases, because World has X’ed itself out of physical existence, in a sense.

World is the trophy woman, the perfect woman, the gorgeous and sexy woman, even the goddess. She is also a maverick (dancing nude behind her wall with her magic wands, you know?). She is the choosy lady who doesn’t put up with – but also doesn’t notice, and also repels – annoyances, interference and bad things of all nature. She isn’t interested, she has her own private world.

A fellow is interested in money and women; and the women aren’t interested. People are out to sell you on the idea that profits them, and you have put a shield up to fend off these influences. It’s mostly all good, we say. Both their ships come in.

Three of our four Rider Waite Tarot citizens involve the same thing: keeping something away.

The fourth means something’s coming in.

Page of Swords is determined to keep everything away. Four of Pentacles is keeping what he has from everyone and everything. World is sealed from anything getting to her.

Page of Swords’ guard is up – is alarmed to guard against (the environment), and is feeling vulnerable. World, on the other hand, is invulnerable and is guarding against the environment effortlessly.

Four of Pentacles and Three of Wands both refer to money. Four of Pentacles is holding onto it. For Three of Wands, it’s coming in.

You could say the first three cards equal the fourth: Page of Swords and Four of Pentacles and Three of Wands equal World: “I am not letting anything that’s coming around me get to me.” Plainly, our story is about security.

LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES

Page of Swords is on guard, defending, is anxious regarding some ill-defined threat. This is the ‘free-floating anxiety’ or paranoia the psychologists speak of. He represents a security guard or soldier on guard too of course. The card really refers to the bodily state (adrenalin) of being anxious or thrilled or excited or threatened, or even irritated. It’s the ‘something’s out there’ feeling. The illustration shows a young fellow all nerved up, hair flying, weapon brandished … and nothing is around him for maybe miles.

Four of Pentacles holds on for dear life. Holding a secret. Holding money. Holding himself back from and not admitting. Stifling him/her- self. Illustration shows a fellow outside of town holding onto the money and hunkered down.

Three of Wands is clearly saying ‘Ships coming in.’ A man stands watching the approach of ships. It means ‘coming in the future.’ It means ‘income’ or ‘incoming’ or ‘coming,’ and also simply puts another card’s verb into future tense.

World is really about the security that being a spiritual master bequeaths. Of course, there’s not that many questions along those lines, so the common meaning of World is that nothing gets through. She is in a world of her own. No harm comes to her as if she were invisible. World describes the ‘dances to a different drummer’ kind of person … and this card does not refer just to females. Illustration shows a nude female with two wands wearing a scarf dancing in a world of her own while all sorts of evil critters are outside looking the other way.

A workingman knows how to get money coming in (his woman inspires the thought).

Men are making money at this very physical endeavor, no women do it.

The men aim to get the bonus money for themselves, and cut her out of it.

The future profits are assured: She handles the nonphysical end of it, and the strong man and the guy with the temper handle the physical end of it.

The money is to come to the husband and the man whose idea it was, not to the wife.

She is the only one in her field who has hands-on knowledge of how to keep the hazards from affecting the bottom line.

One thing is first: to have cash flow to pay labor. Other problems are negligible.

The income from it is not her department: Let those guys concern themselves with that and get all worked up about it.

The man who does the work aims to keep the money coming in, to keep her department in the dark about it.

A plain and simple man knows one thing to the exclusion of all others: how to make money .

As an exotic dancer who doesn’t fraternize, she will have money come in from guys who are passionate and obsessed about her.

Here we have a drama without action. Money is coming in (Three of Wands) and there’s this superior woman who hasn’t a worry in the world and/or is divorced from the situation around her (World). We have two very physical men – one associated with being the laborer, the hands-on dude: King of Wands is the workingman, the edgy, plain common dude who is passionate, impulsive or angry and also the husband – a very physical card; and we have a similar fellow, the very physical and very focused Knight of Pentacles who is strong, determined and ambitious. You could say of both these men that they get the job done. So they can be the same person or different persons.

Then we have the superior woman who is in a World of her own and/or on a level of her own, who is in one way or another buffered from the lowlife elements, unconcerned with problems because trouble avoids her for one reason or another. She is dancing nude in the illustration, which gives World the potential to represent an exotic dancer/stripper.

Then we have money coming in, income, and the future, in Three of Wands. You would think this spread would be more about business, but everywhere you turn the dame is pivotal more than the dudes. This is an odd and awkward set: It took me two days to finish it!

LEARN TAROT BY THE PICTURES

	King of Wands This cranky fellow is the main card that means ‘husband’ in Rider Waite Tarot Vertatim ™. This is the rednecky fellow, the common man at the car races with his fist in the air and a beer, hollering. The impulsive ill-tempered hardworking man who repairs your car, works at the steel mill, etc. He is a family man and a country boy. He can be a stockbroker or whatever, and if so should still be a bit of a lout.
	Three of Wands You don’t have to learn its meaning. A merchant is looking at his ships coming in with his profit and his merchandise. Money coming in, a good future, what will happen, outlook, waiting, income. The future tense. (There are printer’s errors in the yellow on Rider Waite and this is one of them: That is supposed to be the ocean, and it is desert sand!)
	World brings up some unusual one-of-a-kind applications, more than most Tarot Vertatim ™ Rider Waite cards. The concept is that when one (male or female – this is one of the androgynous figures, believe it or not!) is at the top of one’s game, or when one is spiritually skilled, trouble makes it a point to avoid and not even look in that direction. Which is true. If you carry a .357 in your bra, and it does not show, muggers will sidestep as you go by. Because of the illustration, World can be a woman with a sexy figure; because she is dancing, a stripper.
	Knight of Pentacles Focus on one main thing. On getting ahead, often. Self-interested dude, tough strong-man type. Even a punk or a thug. Stereotypically the short dark opinionated guy who jabs at the air when he speaks. He is very physical. He is very driven. He will get the job done, at least the one he has in mind. I think of Danny DaVito and also the character in an old tv show, Don Johnson, when I see Knight of Pentacles.

Advice reminds one of “Damn the torpedoes; full speed ahead.” The picture shows an impregnable defense, shows that whatever is out there headed our way is not going to get all the way to us, that we have contained whatever anxiety-producing agents lurk outside. Without a question to focus the answer, four cards can mean contradictory things especially when the Spread has a card that negates other cards. Without a question also the pronouns in a group reading are more flexible, especially in some of these Rider Waite Tarot spreads. When a pronoun is in parentheses, feel very free to substitute. The question in a ‘real’ individual reading supplies at least half the information!

More work than usual finding sentences for these. The first three cards equal the fourth.

Overlap and repeat here. Let me explain. Page of Swords is determined to keep everything away from … and Four of Pentacles is keeping what you have away from … and Three of Wands is “incoming.” Then World is sealed away from anything getting to … So the one idea is repeated, and you have to make a theme out of that … out of all the ways this simple concept applies.

Page of Swords is guarding, and World’s guard is up and impregnable.

Four of Pentacles and Three of Wands refer to money: holding onto it for the Four and it’s coming in for Three.

MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS: INDIVIDUAL RIDER WAITE TAROT CARDS

Page of Swords is on guard, defending, is anxious regarding some ill-defined threat. This is the ‘free-floating anxiety’ the psychologists speak of. He is a security guard or soldier on guard too of course. The card really refers to the bodily state of being anxious or thrilled or excited or threatened, or even irritated. It’s the ‘something’s out there’ feeling. The illustration shows a young fellow all nerved up, hair flying, weapon displayed … and nothing is around him for maybe miles.

Four of Pentacles holds onto for dear life. Holding a secret. Holding money. Holding himself back from and not admitting. Stifling him/her- self. Illustration shows a fellow outside of town holding onto the money and hunkered down.

Three of Wands screams ‘Ships coming in.’ A man stands watching the approach of ships. It means ‘coming in the future.’ It means ‘income’ or ‘incoming’ or ‘coming,’ and also simply puts another card’s verb in future tense.

World is really about the security being a spiritual master bequeaths. Of course, there’s not that many questions along those lines, so the main meaning of World is that nothing gets through. She is in a world of her own. No harm comes to her as if she were invisible. She is the ‘dances to a different drummer’ kind of person … and this card does not refer just to females. Illustration shows a nude female with two wands wearing a scarf dancing in a world of her own while all sorts of evil critters are outside looking the other way.
