Prestigious universities overseas (Oxford University; L’ecole Polytechnique, and others) have classes in English that result in degrees, and they are far far far cheaper and far more respected internationally than U S universities are now. Bonus is that getting a job overseas is a LOT easier if you are not a United States school graduate. Tuition is a mere $5,000 at some of these schools. Stansberry Research (financial newsletters) is where I learned about this.)

This is Tarot Verbatim’s modified Celtic Cross spread, originally designed to, in six spreads, use each of 78 cards.  When I did this, I noticed ‘3 sentences,’ with the last being the three-card outcome.  The second, of course is the three cards below that, which Tarot spreads refer to as ‘the tower’ because this spread originally sprang from Celtic outdoor structures which had meaning for those people.  The rest of the cards, the beginning part, is referred to as ‘the cross’ because, again, of outdoor structures.

Celtic Cross spreads, as you can see, have positions that cards’ meanings apply to. This is the standard way most Tarot readers read Tarot. (They pay less attention to the meanings cards have in common than Tarot Verbatim™ does.)

.

These positions suggest reading a clump of the cards together (Self-Cover-Cross, or as I think of it, Self-Situation-Problem is the first clump. Then you do the ‘arms of the cross, which are the horizontal and vertical pairs of ‘the cross.’

.

The question here is from the executor of a murdered man’s estate. Things are a mess, and Client has been threatened a lot, and had a lot of theft. Client’s belief is that the deceased may be helping out with the situation, which is really about Deceased’s business and life rather than Client’s. (Yes, I have permission to post this to you.)

Three of Wands – Three of Wands obviously says ‘Your ship is coming in.’ And that covers most of its meanings. Eight of Cups – Our red-robed pilgrim detours not by choice on his path, going around the mountain, but he will get back on course. Eight of Cups applies this disruption/resumption running-off-the-road scenario to all sorts of things without actually straying from the central notion. It takes some getting used to. Eight of Cups is one of the cards that means ‘to switch.’ (You can actually Google ‘Eight of Cups Tarot Verbatim’ and get a lot of his dictionary.)

‘Not anymore’ is a frequent translate of Eight of Cups.

Another very frequent translate for Eight of Cups is the whole ‘quit’ lexicon. Quit without notice, quit being, leaving, walking out. He even says ‘absent without official leave, A.W.O.L. Eight of Cups is gone – over even before it gets underway sometimes. I think of its title as ‘Abort Course.’

Eight of Cups is change too; he belongs to that Tarot tribe. Abrupt change. Switching or being transferred. It vanishes; it’s gone. Today it’s ‘up and out’ as it’s gone.

And Eight of Cups can act as a negator (a card that makes another card negative). It even ends up saying ‘not’ once in a while, influenced by another card. Today it means not going to, nothing ahead, no more, not getting anywhere, nothing on your path, and even ‘for nothing.’ These are kinda special cases.

Nine of Swords – Nine of Swords’ picture pictures its meanings, which are few and defined. Nine of Swords is ‘up nights crying’ – insomnia, night owl, late night, middle of the night, disturbed sleep, sleepless nights, and nightmare.

Nine of Swords describes stress, panic, aggravation, angst, worry, sorrow, hard times, grief and mourning. Worry is its most frequent meaning, and stress is also common.

Nine of Swords also translates words like: awful, dread, dreadful, hell, fear and afraid.

Three of Wands – You see a well-dressed fellow calmly waiting as he watches his ship come in. The ship of course is his money, his profit, his income and his paycheck, his living. The money theme is large with Three of Wands. Good times are coming, money is coming. So Three of Wands says you are better off, you will be fine, you make it to the good times, and it’s going to be great.

The future is fine with Three of Wands too. Three of Wands not only translates ‘future’ but puts other cards’ meanings into future tense. Sun – This is one of those cards with quite a few trunks to its meaning tree. (Google it with ‘Tarot Verbatim’ after it, to access all the archives of its meanings here.) The story in the illustration is that a funloving toddler sneaks out from supervision nude, recklessly cavorting hands-free atop a very annoyed pony.

Very seldom does the annoyance of the pony, or the recklessness of the child, show up as meanings in my spreads.

Sun today is about the relief of getting out from under restrictions, and feeling free; the child or brat itself; being uninhibited, ‘letting my hair down’; optimism and sunshine; leaving or getting out; and most of all happiness, enjoyment, and fun.

Three of Wands – The cliché ‘your ship comes in’ is what this illustration is all about. Merchant waits, overlooking a harbor, for his ship to come in with his profit. He is looking at the ship, so it’s not a ‘check is in the mail’ type thing, it’s a sure thing.

Meanings this Tarot card apply to your sentence or your spread are defined and few: the future or the sentence being in future tense; money made or received; waiting or looking forward, or the outlook, looking ahead, and ‘it’s on its way’; and continuing, which appears as ‘always’ or ‘always be,’ and as ‘keeping’ (gerund form of the verb) or as ‘keep’ plus the verb, like: keep being, keep doing, etc.

Three of Pentacles – People get together and get some purpose done by agreement: This is the root meaning of Three of Pentacles. It is an anchor card – one that has few and well-defined meanings, so you look to it early when determining what your spread is saying. So Three of Pentacles is the main relationship card – that’s the default word for it. Watch for it to equate social, love, and business relationships, it’s so versatile in the relationship arena.

Each party to the relationship … or the agreement, or the contract or the meeting … does his part, and each party benefits mutually too. It’s a deal, it’s an exchange, it’s a transaction. Three of Wands      The merchant who’s waiting for his ship to come in is a simple soul. All he’s interested in is his income or profit, the continuing progress of those ships, and the future.

Watch for the ‘continuing’ theme of Three of Wands to make gerunds – the ‘ing’ form of verbs ‘ and also to make future tense out of his neighbor cards. He means money and the future. Simple.

Words and phrases he makes today: what’s coming, will make money, begins to, bringing, beneficial, making money, a long time, getting, coming, rewarding, good times, going to be good for you, the good that comes of it, and ‘Everything’s gonna be all right,’ which is Three of Wands’ mantra.

Hanged Man      Hanged Man means ‘realize’ and ‘get it,’ means intuition and enlightenment. You see the energy halo around his head. He is upside-down because that’s the way you feel when you are ‘getting it’ from ‘out there.’

This illustration reflects a type of myth you see in several nations’ religions: The hero or god hangs himself on a tree, mostly for three days, and sacrifices a body function or part to ‘gain wisdom.’ The wisdom is psychic abilities.

So today Hanged Man, as usual, translates its common way as: see, realize, know, feel, idea. Inspired idea, too. Hanged Man is ESP (extrasensory perception), vision, intuition, premonition, feeling in your bones, and phrases containing ‘mind’ and ‘head.’ (Put him next to the pain of Three of Swords, and he has a headache.)

Three of Swords      Three of Swords is a spoiler card that rains on its neighbors. Bad weather; adverse conditions. A stylized heart pierced three times bodes no good … almost. Three of Swords does have some not-awful meanings. But most of the time, it means rejection, divorce (in Tarot Verbatim™), pain and hurt and suffering.

Another branch of meanings for Three of Swords is about adverse situations, adverse conditions (against the odds; when things go wrong; the hard part; difficult; the worst of times; rivalry and competition, a bad relationship). Three of Wands – Three of Wands is one of the easy cards, one that has few and distinct meanings that relate to its illustration directly. I call them ‘anchor cards’ because you look at them first to get a quick impression of what Tarot is talking about: Anchor cards are a ‘known.’

You see a fellow patiently waiting for his ship to come in as he watches it come in. So coming in, coming toward, incoming, income, the future, and good things in the future all belong comfortably to Three of Wands. Usually it refers to smooth operation.

.

Three of Wands means the future, and it will add future tense to your cards. It means good things coming in the future, of course. It means continuing (and therefore ‘always’). It can add an ‘-ing’ suffix to your words too, which means continuing action – the difference between come in, and coming in.

.

Since Three of Wands means money coming in, it also means money – making such phrases as: income; money going to; a good income; you make money, pays off. It also can translate ‘benefits’ mostly as a verb.

Strength – Here she is, petting the predator. This illustration bears explanation. Strength’s story is this: As an adept (a person who has spiritual skills, witnessed by the white robe with flowers and the halo in the shape of the ‘eternity’ sign), Strength has the ability and skill (key words) to handle potentially threatening events (represented by the lion who wanted to attack) by preventing them before actual contact or conflict happens (witness the way she stands to the side of the would be attacker and has her bare hands on its snout). The enemy came to roar is ended up purring.

Strength lays hands directly on, usually, the problem situation. Strength is proactive – prevents rather than fights. Think martial artist. Think a person who influences other people by his or her presence.

Strength also denotes a very smooth operation, as Three of Wands does.

Strength’s main meanings are: to fix or solve; to assert or take charge; to overcome; to be in control of the situation; to prevent; to quash opposition or shut up dissenters; to deal with or handle, or be hands-on; to prevent interference.

Ten of Pentacles – Ten of Pentacles is the negative card about groups of people – marriage/relationship/family/organization. There are two positive cards that parallel its meanings. Dysfunctional (messed-up) relationship can be a couple or any of those groups. Ten of Pentacles is a mob or criminal gang, is politicians or any sort of crooked business.

Ten of Pentacles not only means the people in any of those scenarios, it means the activity as well. Another application for this (and the other marriage/relationship/family/organization cards) is house, home and neighborhood. In the case of Ten of Pentacles, it can either be a ghetto or a wealthy neighborhood.

In real Tarot life (in Tarot Verbatim™ anyway), this Ten of Pentacles means a mixed group, ‘a bunch of different people’ who are together in some way. So it can say ‘everybody who is attending the meeting’ and can represent the meeting itself. It can translate: we, us, the whole crew, other people, other people’s needs, other people’s problems, and ‘all the people involved.’ It can be a rally too.

The general meaning you can think of for Ten of Pentacles is ‘People who have a problem or people who are a problem.’ Here you find it representing any sort of folks who aren’t getting along: problem kids, quarreling relatives, disgruntled customers, people who unite against, rabble and troublemakers.

You know how people describe their relationship (in dating sites and such) as ‘it’s complicated?’ Well, Ten of Pentacles means exactly that: the complications, all sorts of difficulties, sticking points, irreconcilable differences.

This Ten of Pentacles is the card for the background that sets a person apart or is something to overcome, whether cultural, class, language, or the usual gender-ethnic-socioeconomic divides that are problematical. Often, it represents the challenge a person faces, and usually the person involved is overcoming it as a personal issue.
