You see ‘law enforcement’ in a card labeled ‘Justice’ which displays an upraised unsheathed double-edged sword. Today we are not using the law meanings of this Tarot card.
The smell of marriage clings to Justice but it doesn’t literally mean ‘marriage’ unless that is strongly implied – as we have here with the cheating married lover. Justice has the sizzle of marriage because it makes either marriage card say ‘legal marriage,’ – a big distinction. But it does mean commitment all by itself.

The juggler has a symbol of continual repetition (from mathematics) connecting his plates, and he is dressed in a getup with a dunce cap. The silly-looking costume brings words like goofy, frivolous, foolish, unstable, and eccentric.
Two of Pentacles goes on forever over and over again, keeping up the same silly routine. The illustration supports any kind of movement: up and down, back and forth, ’round and ’round, tossed this way and that on those waves. It could go either way. To go back to. Return. Whirling. Whether or not. This way or that. Anything can happen. It’s random – an iffy situation.
Timing is very much part of juggling, so Two of Pentacles refers to sometimes and somehow and every time – words like those. Juggling is also continual, so Two of Pentacles means ‘ongoing’ and ‘in the process of.’ Next to a legal card (like Justice here), it can mean legal proceedings.

Two of Pentacles
There are two major trunks to Two of Pentacles’ meaning tree, and one or the other of them tends to predominate depending upon its company (i.e., the surrounding cards). The two trunks are steady continuing momentum in some particular thing, and an unstable either-or ups-and-downs situation. Today we are in the ‘could go either way’ with Two of Pentacles’ meanings in spite of the fact that the overall messages are about stability because Two of Wands (solid finances, good future) and Knight of Wands (getting there in a hurry) establish the story. Two of Pentacles comes as the contrast to how we arrived at success, in many of our sentences. (It’s hard to make several messages from cards with the same meaning, which is part of why the ‘other’ trunk of Two of Pentacles predominates today. ‘Keep hurrying to success’ is clearly stated … but not twenty times.) Two of Pentacles often says ‘in process,’ meaning something is happening but not definitively.
The two trunks arise from, first, the steady continual movement of juggling, and, second, the erratic movement the waves are putting the ships through.

Knight of Wands putting all your energy into something you are chasing … or even something you are running from: This is Knight of Wands. He is in a hurry; he is making fast progress. He is getting somewhere: getting out from under; getting out of town; going all out, moving along, rushing into. He can be an emergency too. Speed is his main characteristic.
Two of Wands
Here’s the guy who owns the town or the world. He looks down from his rooftop patio upon his holdings. He can count on a profit in that real estate he owns, and he is planning accordingly. He represents financial planning, success, a sure thing, a good future, stability. He is investing and banking. He is a pension. Two of Wands can even represent a financial institution of any sort, any level. Two of Wands is a plan of any kind, and it can mean a good future, or a good outlook.
Two of Wands often puts neighboring cards into future tense, and often translates words that mean future tense, phrases like ‘will be’ or ‘going to.’

Two of Pentacles and Knight of Wands are both movement. Two of Pentacles means to keep on, to continue. You see the whirling plates or balls, connected with the sign for ‘repeat infinitely’ in math. Knight of Wands is putting energy into forward movement, to move fast, to get ahead or even just hurtle in some direction. You see the knight doing exactly that with a panicky look on his face. Both these cards (Two of Pentacles and Knight of Wands) are kind of about ‘any old direction, just keep going.’ Two of Pentacles means various movements you see in the juggler’s dancing feet, in the items he juggles, or even in the ships’ movements behind the juggler. As a matter of fact, Two of Pentacles and Knight of Wands together say ‘Keep moving.’
Two of Wands is a sure thing, is stability; Two of Pentacles is anything could happen, and is instability. (This meaning comes from the ships, not the juggler.) Between them is someone speeding in either direction (there or back, flee or pursue). So we get the picture that there’s momentum (Knight of Wands), and things could be heading into an insecure phase (Two of Pentacles), or a secure phase (Two of Wands).
Putting all the pieces together, we are left with the curious idea that a plan may get you ahead faster, but if you just keep running you are also likely to arrive at having a good outlook too.

Knight of Pentacles
Here you see a focus of body and mind. Knight of Pentacles is a very physical strong man with a lot of energy who has one thing in mind. Knight is Pentacles is when you decide you are going to do it no matter what, like when someone tells you ‘you can’t do that.’ He is ‘all business.’ You see the short sturdy guy with muscles, on a horse to match himself. He is staring at his pentacle, his mission.
Four of Cups
Four of Cups is the simplest of all Tarot cards. It’s a sure thing when you see Four of Cups that ‘refusing’ and/or ‘not getting through’ or ‘not letting’ is what it is contributing to your sentence. Can’t miss the illustration, either: He crosses his arms and even his legs, and looks down and away as yet another cupful is offered him.
Two of Pentacles
Elsewhere on this site (just put the cards into a Google search), I have posted volumes about Two of Pentacles’ applications and meanings. Here are the categories we use today: sometimes (one of Two of Pentacles’ favorite terms!) keeping it up; over and over, one after another; ups and downs and maybe-maybe not; and the ‘unstable’ meanings that say erratic, fooling around, waver, do something stupid, clowning around. You see the juggler doing the movements over and over, and you see him dressed in a silly costume. The instability meanings grow out of the ships’ being tossed on the waves.
Note that Two of Pentacles has two main meanings that are opposite one another: (1) sometimes, or off-and-on; (2) always or steadily keeping at it. (1) The cycle of the movements gives rise to the sometimes – sometimes up, sometimes down type thing. (2) The controlled precise motion of juggling gives rise to the ‘continual’ meanings.

Here we have a great example of how a negator makes opposite statements of the same three Tarot citizens – for those of you who are readers of Tarot.
*Knight of Pentacles is focused, driven, energetic. He has one priority on his mind – can be obsessed or grimly determined, even.
*Two of Pentacles, on the other hand is just as wishy-washy as the Knight is unwavering.
*And in the middle is our negator, Four of Cups. Nothing gets through to Four of Cups, or he refuses every time … refuses to hear, refuses to consider, even ‘refuses to do’ is sort of implied.
Some pairs of cards are particularly noteworthy, so much so that when you see them in your spread, looking at them early on saves time. Four of Cups and Two of Pentacles are one of those pairs. Think of them as ‘not again’ in mental shorthand, and realize that they can affect other cards in the spread in more than one way – so that an early decision is a good thing. And the fact that Two of Pentacles means both ‘sometimes’ and ‘continually’ is involved here. With that being said, here are the phrases this pair makes today:

Ace of Cups
Peace, love, health, cooperation, and easy: That’s our Ace of Cups in real-world Tarot time. That’s all it is using of itself in this session. It has its depth (not today) about consciousness and group mind. You can read about the Roman Catholic spiritual meanings of its illustration if you Google ‘Ace of Cups Tarot Verbatim™.
World
A spiritually mature person’s manner says ‘Been there, done that, know how to deal with it,’ which repels trouble the same way a street-wise person repels street trouble. So World can be oblivious to problems and no harm will come. World is when you are invisible to lowlifes, dancing to your own drummer. World’s wreath-wall represents the magic circle the bad spirits cannot cross, so World is sometimes about excluding, shutting out or being shut out. World is pictured a shapely female nude dancing with magic wands inside a fortress wreath, as critters on the outside look in any other direction.
Two of Pentacles
You have to get used to Two of Pentacles’ ways because its meanings that grow from the same concept conflict or are opposite. For example, Two of Pentacles means both ‘continual’ or ‘continuing’ and ‘on and off.’ This is because the movement of the juggler’s pentacles is both continual and up and down. Today we use each of those meanings. We use ‘keeps trying’ which is part of the ‘continuing’ theme.
Name just about any movement, and Two of Pentacles is your card. Name any phrase that involves timing, like ‘this time around’ and Two of Pentacles is your card. Name any sequential phrase, like ‘one thing after another’ or ‘this time around’ and Two of Pentacles is your card. Quite a few alternative phrases come in through Two of Pentacles’ door, like either-or, whether or not, one way or another. Name any phrase about the ’round and ’round movement, and Two of Pentacles is your card, like ‘this time around’ and go ’round, and coming back.
Silly, goofy things and people, and antics belong to this Two of Pentacles fellow because of his silly costume. So does ‘routine’ because he is a performer and this is his routine.

Both Ace of Cups and World refer to ‘no harm.’ Ace of Cups expresses that concept in the outflow of goodness, and World in shutting the badness out.
Ace of Cups is great good health, and World represents a strong immune system. Ace of Cups expresses that concept as a smooth flow of good body energy and a smooth flow of consciousness that you see in the five streams (senses) that flow into the ocean (mass consciousness). World expresses that concept as being sealed off from outside influences. With a strong immune system, somehow you get no symptoms.
So Both Ace of Cups and World have a clean unsullied space. Their difference, their contrast if you will, is that Ace of Cups is flowing all this goodness out into the world, and World is behind closed doors (that wreath-wall) in private contained spiritual practice.
These same two cards, Ace of Cups and World, speak of true love and a shapely woman who is very choosy. Ace of Cups is true love, and the shapely choosy dame is World of course.

Eight of Cups
Eight of Cups is taking leave, derailing, or even abruptly dropping one thing or direction for another. There’s a presumption … not always honored … in Eight of Cups that the pilgrim (Yes, that’s a pilgrim.) will resume course, that his path is in a detour around the mountain and its river. Eight of Cups aborts course, drops out, or decides to go another way. Eight of Cups often says ‘outta here.’
It’s important to note the new and full moons conjoined there. That is a symbol of beginning-and-ending, so you find Eight of Cups referring to ‘it’s over with before it starts,’ and ‘stillborn’ and dropping out of one life path and into another … and the card is neutral, not labeling the change good or bad.
Keep in mind Eight of Cups says ‘not anymore,’ and often there’s another card’s word in the middle, splitting ‘not’ and ‘anymore’ up – like Eight of Cups and Star saying ‘I don’t love you anymore.’
Two of Pentacles
Two of Pentacles’ many applications often include cycles and/or a continuing process. Those plates or balls he juggles go back and forth, up and down, and round and round in a continuing process that is stable. On the other hand, the ships tossing on impossible waves are going up and down in a very unstable, very iffy, process. So the emphasis is on the motion, the continuation, and it applies to either (or both) nice settled routines, or highly unstable ones.
Besides all that, Two of Pentacles’ getup brings in comedy, silliness, being a goofball, and that sort of scene.
Star
Star is performing a bath ceremony and singing. The feeling-good of the bath is part of Star, and the singing brings all those say/tell/speak words that are a theme, one of the tribe-meanings in Tarot Verbatim™. Star also is a shapely woman. Enthusiasm is evident in this illustration. Those factors get together to make Star confess love, say ‘I love you.’

Eight of Cups abandons course, changes abruptly, or switches onto a new way unexpectedly. He is about diverting but going back to. Next to him is Two of Pentacles who also goes round and round and back and forth, maybe feeling a little silly about that even while doing it. Star tells us this is about love, about feeling good, about something thrilling or an enthusiasm.
Put it all together, and this describes those times we find ourselves quitting but resuming … like going on a diet or swearing to yourself you won’t drink just before you go to bed … and you don’t … for at least four days. ‘Not anymore’ belongs to Eight of Cups.

Two of Pentacles
The two main elements of this illustration mean opposite things. Go figure. A juggler who dances is about movement and timing. The movements are all the ones you see: up and down, back and forth, round and round, whirling. The movements are continuous and rhythmic. His costume is silly, and the hat could pass for a dunce cap. Here are some words these things bequeath us today: repeats over and over again; silly, kept; is doing silly; once in a while, revolving; both sides; juggling; when things could go either way; queasy feeling (re the whirling of course). ‘Becoming’ also is a translate for Two of Pentacles because the movement brings the phrase ‘in the process’ and whatever means about the same thing.
The ships tossing on those impossible waves bequeath all the unstable meanings, like these today: upsets; rocks your boat; unstable times; iffy situations; who are unstable; if only I could. ‘Iffy’ is a frequent word for this end of Two of Pentacles.
Eight of Wands
The sticks fly fast through the air one above the other, a lot of them. This makes most of Eight of Wands meanings. The categories are: many (which makes plurals of surrounding cards), fast, one after the other.
The other category Eight of Wands owns is talk. It’s the lead card for speak/tell/say, the Tarot tribe. Can’t tell you why; it just is, in the field, so go with it.
Emperor
So few and so similar meanings to Emperor that it’s hard to make a variety of sentences with him. Emperor appears less frequently than other cards, an example of the ‘consistent violator of the Laws of Random Distribution’ that Tarot is (when it’s being used to get information). Emperor, esoterically, as the Four, represents the perfected state and therefore represents stagnation as a phase (no more growth possible in perfection). So Emperor is the old man, the Establishment, the highest authority (king/daddy/God/CEO/boss). Also the dictator, strongman, set-in-his-ways person (usually but not always male).
Emperor also represents the grownup, the mature man or person, maturity itself – and of course Grandfather.
Emperor is government, most specifically federal government or a federal government agency.

Eight of Wands and Two of Pentacles are movement, repetition, and quick movement. Eight of Wands emphasizes one after another in succession, and quickly. Two of Pentacles emphasizes continuing on and on, and also can be any kind of repeated movement, even refer to repetitive movement injury when aspected that way.
When you are working with two cards (especially in only a three-card spread) that have the same meaning, you use the other meaning of one of them – of course. The other meaning for Two of Pentacles is mainly silly/unstable, and the other meaning of Eight of Wands would be speak/talk/tell/say.
Emperor doesn’t belong here: His meanings don’t dovetail, don’t jibe, don’t comfortably fit into theirs. You have to do some trimming and jamming, and the product is less than sterling. This misfit could be because I arbitrarily chose these cards while having my computer remotely repaired, to demonstrate to the technician how the template behave while being populated with its new set of Tarot cards.
Emperor is the staid, old, rigid, set-in-his ways guy, or the high-level boss, or the old man. The other two cards are movement, silliness, and a lot of talk or even foolish talk. Therefore, that’s our story today, that’s what today is about. Unless choosing the cards that way has produced a blank.

On a nice day the kid picks a flower and ditty-bops out on a hike in the mountains, without provisions – he and his pet pup. Two of Pentacles
Two of Pentacles is all about all kinds of motion. (I am not going into that because we are not using those meanings here. If you want to research that for a project you are doing, just type ‘Two of Pentacles Tarot Verbatim™’ and Google will bring it to you. You see a band around the balls he is juggling as he dances, and that is in the math sign for ‘infinitely repeating.’ So Two of Pentacles is a cycle – ongoing, repeating, continuing. It’s one of the many cards that translates ‘always’ too. It can mean the usual routine, too.
Then the tossing ships bring in ‘instability’ meanings. His outfit and the hat that looks like a dunce cap brings meanings about being goofy or silly. But today, we are pretty much just using the ‘on and on, over and over’ categories of his.
Eight of Cups
Eight of Cups throws a monkey wrench into Two of Pentacles regular movement: It means a disruption, to run off the road, to quit or put an end to something. It means walking out, dropping out, quitting, abruptly ceasing.
Eight of Cups is about a change of direction due to circumstances, with the intent of resuming the course after the detour. This picture shoes a pilgrim going around a mountain and river, with the full and the sliver moon both in the sky, to indicate an end and a beginning of, yes, a cycle. (Remember, Two of Pentacles refers to cycles and to continuing movement.)
Ten of Wands
Ten of Wands collects words that mean ‘a lot’ or ‘too much,’ and means those words literally and similar ones like: very, extremely, way too (whatever), overloaded, overwhelmed. Ten of Wands is also slow, due to the slow one-step-at-a-time progress the fellow is making. Ten of Wands is about difficulty, about that gradual uphill climb, about things that drag on and drag out, and tire tiresome and tiring.
Don’t pity Mr. Ten of Wands: He makes it, and the reason for his burden is that he decided, he chose, to do it all in one load to save, probably, time.

Two of Pentacles goes on and on; Ten of Wands goes on forever; Eight of Cups stops abruptly. All three Tarot cards are about motion. Two of Pentacles is one of the cards that commonly says ‘keeps,’ meaning keeps doing or keeps it up. Eight of Cups makes that say ‘keeps quitting.’ Two of Pentacles means ‘one after the other’ and Ten of Wands is difficulties. Two of Pentacles is instability and being erratic, and Eight of Cups runs off the road. So Two of Pentacles and Ten of Wands say ‘unstable too long.’
As you can see, there’s no action card for all this to refer to. That leaves a message that says something stops that has been going on a long time. It says a cycle is disrupted.
Two of Pentacles and Ten of Wands together have such similar meanings. They both translate ‘continuing.’ Two of Pentacles is a process, one thing after another, endlessly on and on, ups and downs, routinely. Ten of Wands goes on forever, one step at a time, slow progress. Two of Pentacles is fast repeats; Ten of Wands is dragging on slowly. Together, they emphasize ‘on and on forever.’
