A glance at the complex and puzzling illustration of World leaves you with a strong impression that the woman in the wreath-wall isn’t having anything to do with what’s outside it. Once in a while it even refers to ‘cutting the others out of the deal.’ And that is the central idea to World. It applies all kinds of ways.
World is a spiritual adept, a concept that expands to include her being superwoman, a master, Teflon Lady.
World is an esoteric Tarot card at heart, but today is not the day for that. Today, World means such things as: not involved, not with those people, out of the loop, shutting people out, someone who isn’t interested, is not open to, is closed off from, and not dealing with it. (For the complete meanings of World, Google ‘World Tarot Verbatim,’ which takes you to the archives here.) World is the woman who doesn’t want the guy in romance stories, sometimes.
The illustration, though, also brings World to being the shapely woman, the trophy woman. Heck, if your line of inquiry ever involves nude dancers in one of those cages, World is your card.
Page of Pentacles
He stares at, concentrates upon, that pentacle. Page of Pentacles is one of the cards that often translates words about looking and seeing.
But most often, Page of Pentacles is about thinking, feeling, knowing, considering, being interested in. Two key words for him are mind and idea.
Page of Pentacles is an identity card, which means it translates single pronouns, most often ‘I’ and ‘he.’ (And today it appears with Temperance which can translate ‘we,’ ‘us,’ ‘they,’ and ‘them.’) So Page of Pentacles can simply say the ‘I’ or ‘he’ in your spread, and can also translate: I am, I think, I feel, I know, he is, he thinks, he feels, he knows. ‘He feels he is’ is just as likely.
Today Page of Pentacles translates ‘introspective mood,’ reflecting that focus on self this card represents.
Temperance
Tarot Verbatim™ ignores the dilution theme that pouring water and wine together suggest. The angel is pretty much ignored too, except for the fact the symbol of healing on his chest brings that word into Temperance’s dictionary.
What Tarot Verbatim™ picks up on is the back-and-forth flow, and it applies to communication. Temperance is conversation back and forth. ‘I’ll get back to you on that,’ we say. Temperance also applies to ‘mutual’ and ‘together.’ It will say ‘with’ regarding two people or two sides. ‘I’m with her.’ And it is all about dealing with another person, socializing with, associating with. Negotiation and bargaining belong to Temperance too.
Temperance is also relationship, close or intimate relationship, partners and partnership. ‘Equal intimate partners’ belongs to Temperance, and each of the three words does separately. Temperance is your best buddy, your close friend.

Now Without The Pictures |
Just as when you reach a certain level of social savvy the mooches and muggers disregard you, so does trouble generally avoid you when you reach a certain level of spiritual savvy. That concept is the core meaning of World, illustrated by the woman with two wands (Master of Both Worlds) dancing nude in the secure confines of her wreath-wall, unnoticed and un-interfered-with by the critters outside. So World is one of the esoteric (occult) cards at heart. (Magicians draw a circle to keep the bad spirits away from what they are doing. The wreath is that circle, potentially.)
Not today though. Today World is counterbalanced by Temperance. Temperance is as much intimate association as World is absence of association. And in between, we have ‘making up your mind’ and also ‘who I am’ in Page of Pentacles.
So here’s a theme of contrasting being a member and being excluded (or excluding yourself). To be or not to be, that is the question Page of Pentacles ponders about whatever the association or membership is. If I’m Alice’s friend, Jim will hate me … hmm. There’s also a theme of a person not interested in associating with another person who dreams of a close bond.
Another story these three cards make is that of someone who wants to be a friend of a superior person. World is a superior person, and is also a person who is not available to communicate or socialize with. (This can be the CEO you can’t get through to on the phone, for instance.)
Both Page of Pentacles and Knight of Pentacles hold the pentacle and stare at it, and both these cards involve a focus on self – but in very different ways.
Page of Pentacles is an identity card (as is Page of Wands). The similar meanings of these two pages probably comes from the fact that pages were knights in training – in training at the home of a stranger knight, not their father. They had to fit in to succeed at the only career available to them. (Careers were in your genes in those days.) So the pages had to present themselves as acceptable good people, which is the meaning you see for them here.

Knight of Swords
Today Knight of Swords is paired with getting away because of the meanings of World (nothing to do with) and Six of Wands (getting drawn into something that’s against one’s own interest). Today Knight of Swords is saying ‘the other’ or ‘the opposite’ direction and ‘outta here’ and ‘avoid at all costs.’ Today he mentions ‘slipping back’ and ‘going back’ once, and mentions ‘it backfires’ once. Knight of Swords is moving fast, whatever direction he is moving in.
World
You decide you are not going to be part of certain things you have encountered in life, and you arrange your day accordingly. I don’t associate with that type, or with that scene – nope. Today the meaning of Six of Wands (a many-storied Rider Waite Tarot card in Tarot Verbatim’s™ roster) is: a person who is a missionary for his own agenda, a person who draws followers to his camp. Six of Wands is ‘sign my petition,’ ‘vote for my choice,’ and ‘follow me,’ with an agenda. Be careful what you wish for – this is the story of King Richard III’s victory over some invading Arabs, but the victory was a setup to get him captured and forever away from his throne. The downside of a win. You got the job but now you’re stuck with something. Six of Wands also means, plain and simple, ‘to pretend’ and ‘to influence’ or ‘to have an influence.’ For example, ‘Her influence changes my ways,’ and ‘She only pretends to be hard to get.’

You have to get used to Two of Pentacles’ ways because its meanings that grow from the same concept conflict or are opposite. For example, Two of Pentacles means both ‘continual’ or ‘continuing’ and ‘on and off.’ This is because the movement of the juggler’s pentacles is both continual and up and down. Today we use each of those meanings. We use ‘keeps trying’ which is part of the ‘continuing’ theme.

Ace of Pentacles stands for the proposition that the road to success is paved with good moral behavior. Its meanings echo that position: money, ownership, success, being right, being on the Path, everything being okay or even perfect. The big arch with the roses is the winning (or victory) part, and the lilies – white of course – are the purity part.

So how does this Six of Cups card today mean these things: with flowers, romance, trust, past, favors, young ones, old-fashioned, guy who loves, children, childhood, past love affair, sweetness, home, and sharing? Page of Wands could easily be the little boy in the sweet scene in Six of Cups as a young man. He is Prince Charming, a flirt, a sweet guy, clean, good-looking, respectable – just the type (and he does mean ‘type of person – is an identity card) to give his girl flowers.
But he has a life aside from romance and just being the Good Guy. Page of Wands is all about being your best self, the best person you can be – being honest and respectable. He is proud, and he stands up for himself too. He is also good-looking and well-spoken.
And he stands for all kinds of speak/tell/talk/say. In fact, Page of Wands often translates a pronoun plus a word that means talk, like ‘he says.’
World
World is about spiritual realities, as Wheel of Fortune and Moon are, but not today. We are not using quite a few items of World’s dictionary here. (You can google ‘World Tarot Verbatim’ for the full spectrum.) The illustration shows a nude dancing gal with two wands, separated – by a circle of wreath – from the same otherworldly entities you see in Wheel of Fortune. Those entities interfere in people’s lives, usually in a mischievous way.
So the main idea in World is that the bad guys and bad situations don’t get through. She is dancing away, so she has no problems – and that phrase solidly belongs to World! No problems, no consequence, no trouble, no troublesome people. She won’t pay attention to them, she ignores and disregards and acts like she doesn’t know the pests.
World doesn’t just repel bad influences; World is discriminating, and is in a very private bubble. She is the woman with no faults (they are on the outside of the circle, you see) and ‘it isn’t her fault’ either. World is about having no issues.
The exclusionary effect of the wreath goes both ways too: ‘Experienced women disregard him; she never knew the guy; she acts like she doesn’t know you.
World is also a shapely woman, and can be literally a dancer or a nude dancer.
Such a discriminating lady she is, that only the sweetest and the best fellows talk to her or flirt with her. She is so experienced she does not acknowledge or respond to questionable elements in her environment. Nine of Pentacles
Nine of Pentacles has everything she wants right at her fingertips, and does whatever she chooses in her robe at noon, falcon on her wrist in her vineyard. Prosperity and privacy are hers. You don’t have to be rich by the numbers to be comfortable in your circumstances and beholden to no one. Nine of Pentacles pictures a person who has enough and who is in charge of her situation and her environment, a person who is minding her own business, and not involved with yours. The snail says she does things in her own sweet time. Playing with her falcon in a vineyard at midday, wearing a robe, says she does what she chooses. She can be home-based, and she can be in a comfortable professional niche. Often she is a businesswoman in charge of something. She is likely to be the owner of real estate, home or business. But she could be content minding a budget successfully in humble circumstances too.
World
World is a citizen of ‘out there’ with little connection to the mundane, is a spiritual adept. She repels all bad influences: The bad guys don’t want to deal with her because of her expertise, and she has little in common with the physical realm – hence the barrier wreath in the illustration. See the monsters on the outside of that wreath?
In a world of her own, dancing to a different drummer, shutting out the lower life forms with her magic wreath. There’s our World girl. Very esoteric (occult) card, she: a Master of Both Worlds is someone who operates in both the dark side and the deity side on the inner planes. Demons don’t notice her because she has beaten them already: That is what the critters who are looking away from her on the other side of the wreath-wall are all about.
In the real Tarot World, though, World is about being in a category of its own, about not letting things get to you, about not having any connection and being unavailable. It’s also in the trophy woman theme as the curvy girl.
Ace of Pentacles
Ace of Pentacles unites the concepts of being right and possessing wealth and success: a hand with gold in it over the ‘right path,’ pictured as a gold road beginning with lilies and ending in a rose arbor. All is well.
Ace of Pentacles stands for the proposition that the road to success is paved with good moral behavior. Its meanings echo that position: money, ownership, success, being right, being on the Path, everything being okay or even perfect. The big arch with the roses is the winning (or victory) part, and the lilies – white of course – are the purity part.

Ace of Pentacles means perfect, and World is some state of perfection. Ace of Pentacles is ‘on the right path’ and World has arrived as an adept, a person skilled in living free of interference from anything.
Nine of Pentacles and World are two female cards that have many of the same meanings, the main of which is not being interfered with, doing as they wish in their own sweet time, being skilled, being superior, being alone, and ‘Do Not Disturb.’ They are not involved (like Four of Swords).
Nine of Pentacles owns a business and/or land. She is pictured at home with her falcon in her vineyard: very real-world. World is pictured inside a (magic) circle, dancing nude with the same pair of magic wands that Chariot uses, and being invisible to the bad-guy spirits in the neighborhood.
Both these women choose to be alone and not associate with others, are not married, are independent, and are content with who and what they are. So Nine of Pentacles and World belong in the same bin.
Nine of Pentacles is content to be right where she is. She is successful right where she is, and may be wealthy. She may be a businesswomen, even an entrepreneur, or she may feel she simply has enough. She is in charge of the turf she is on, at any rate – has her head screwed on straight and is a complete person unto herself. At least she owns her turf, which may be owning land, a home, or a business.
Ace of Pentacles is having money and success in hand – maybe a lot. Ace of Pentacles is profit as well as success.
So Nine of Pentacles and Ace of Pentacles belong in the same bin.

Strength
You have an influence on your surroundings, Strength says, so use that influence self-confidently to clear a space. Pictured is someone who isn’t getting in your way because of who you are.
He came to roar, and she prevents that – prevents the opposition with her gentle hands massaging his snout. Strength is about how who you are, your character, influences what happens to you and around you, especially when it comes to overcoming obstacles before they present themselves. Strength stands for the way a person who can handle trouble repels trouble (usually because there are easier targets). Strength also represents how smooth your progress can be if you foresee where the sticking places might be, and act in advance.
Strength is the kind of person (or animal, really) who commands respect. Today with Six of Pentacles (treating others fairly), Strength’s emphasis is on this ‘getting people to behave’ aspect.
Strength owns words like handle and hands-on because she has her hands on the lion. Strength also owns words that mean a fix or a solution to a problem. Today Strength is a risk manager, even.
Six of Pentacles
An employer pays to the penny what he owes, weighing the coins – pays fairly, so Six of Pentacles is one of our justice cards. He pays, and they receive: Both sides of an exchange – whether of money, attention, respect, or anything else – are expressed by Six of Pentacles. Treating anyone or anything fairly is the focus today of Six of Pentacles in the company of World (who ignores the riffraff) and Strength (who gets people to behave).
Six of Pentacles is what’s right, as well as doing what’s right. It’s something you are given, as well as the act of giving it. It’s what you deserve, as well as getting what you deserve. Sometimes that distinction is meaningful.
World
World does not acknowledge or interact with anyone or anything not on her level. And her level is the highest level: World is superior, is at the top of her field, is the supreme expert (like High Priestess). She is master. She is in her own world, you could say. If it’s not meaningful to World, World is oblivious to it. (Don’t call her; she’ll call you.) World repels trouble by not acknowledging it and/or not associating with it. People who have an intense interest in something (a scholar, an activist, an athlete, etc.) have a gift for ignoring what’s irrelevant to that. The jokes about Einstein are examples of this. Are you World about some interest of yours?
You see the wreath-wall around a curvy woman wearing only a scarf who is dancing with a wand in each hand. The deep meaning of World is that trouble-making entities are not interested in a spiritual adept who is a ‘master of both worlds,’ which means (in the magic profession) a person who is expert in both black and white magic. Obviously, this part of World’s meanings is useless for most readings. But it is the core meaning that holds the other meanings together.
“Don’t call me; I’ll call you.” “I want to be alone.” “Let the world turn without me tonight.” World is about not being interfered with, in the same way that Strength is about preventing oneself from being interfered with. World is not involved. World is ‘It’s none of my business,’ and switch the pronoun to any one of them. World avoids other people, avoids other people’s anything. World is not interested, has nothing to do with them – or with anything. World is intolerant, is dismissive … ‘To heck with all of it.’ Mainly, world ignores … ignores everything and everybody she chooses to.
World has nothing to worry about. World is when you’re in a bubble of your own. World is cocooning. World is when you’re not under the influence of anyone else.
Well, World is about shutting out the world, but World is also about being out of the loop – about being shut out by the world, being marginalized, out of the loop, being the outsider, having no connections.
And World is the shapely woman. If you ever do readings about nude dancers, that’s World too: She is even enclosed in a cage.

Strength effectively prevents interruption in her affairs, and World is not interrupted by outside influence. (Think of Strength and World as Before and After.) Actually, in real Tarot life, both Strength and Six of Pentacles can translate ‘the way you treat people,’ but the phrase is more direct and more common with Six of Pentacles.
Strength is being in a position to handle an opposition comfortably, which deters the opposition and prevents it from happening. World is the finished product: A person who isn’t interfered with. Think of Strength as the way you behave to discourage intimidation (which is often simply body language: Strength is deft and diplomatic).
Strength influences people to behave, Six of Pentacles is doing right by the next person, and World doesn’t put up with people who don’t behave. Six of Cups
Remember this is one of those cards with unrelated meanings that arise from the illustration. A well-dressed little boy gives a well-dressed little girl a basket of flowers in front of either apartment buildings or an estate. The relaxed lines and soft colors suggest this is a nostalgic card, and, yes, there’s not a cloud in that pale sky.
Six of Cups is old friends, old lovers, children, childhood, trust, the past, romance and love, home sweet home, and the good cozy life. These connect well in your memory with the illustration.
Six of Cups is also a real estate card, specifically often a cozy home, an old home, a quaint home, a comfortable home, the parents’ house, the old neighborhood, a safe neighborhood or home.
We are not using the memory and nostalgia meanings, nor are we using the gift meanings here in this context; and we barely mention the trust meanings.
World
World is one of the most complex, dense, Tarot cards. The illustration’s core meaning is almost irrelevant – it isn’t often used. But it is the foundation to the meanings that we do commonly use. (Sigh.)
World is another card about magic. ‘Master of Both Worlds’ is a master magician who is expert in what we civilians (the uninitiated) would call black and white magic. That’s the two wands there. So World is ‘untouchable,’ not to be trifled with. A superior person is both genders (hermaphrodite) in esoteric circles, which is why the figure’s crotch is covered by the scarf. And the heavy wreath around the dancing figure represents the magic circle that keeps the mischievous spirits away. Said spirits are around the outside of the wall. World isn’t concerned with them; they are looking the other way.
First, there’s that wall. In our real-world Tarot reports, World is having a wall around; is putting up a wall; is being very private, cocooning away from whatever is outside. (Six of Cups echoes this comfy home theme.) This wall concept expands a little to privacy, secrecy, and the word ‘private’ in various applications. It expands to World not being interested and not receptive to, and not responding to. It also expands to having no problems, and nothing gives (whoever/whatever) trouble.
Then we have the superior woman (also the top person in a niche). Today these phrases reflect that: a perfect woman; a woman he can be proud of; a one-of-a-kind woman; a master in her field. The wall around World sometimes represents a woman or person in a (high-level, expert) niche; and Nine of Pentacles too can be in a niche. High Priestess too is in a status all her own, has expert knowledge that she keeps to herself, even in secret.
World has more miscellaneous meanings than just about any other card. Today ‘I can’t be bothered,’ and ‘danced to a different drummer’ and ‘out of touch’ are examples. An example of far-fetched concepts World comes up with are times I have seen it represent various kinds of filters, as well as barriers like a sea wall or revetment wall.

King of Pentacles
You think of politicians, bankers, gangsters, gamblers and flamboyant fellows, manipulative types, and ladies’ men when you see King of Pentacles. He can be the gambler, the pool hall hustler – that sort of person. It’s easy to stereotype this Tarot card that way … ‘throws his weight around’ sort of thing. Al Capone and Liberace. And, yes, he can mean all those things. He can be ‘way too Leo, astrologically speaking.
But of course King of Pentacles has more ordinary and more conservative meanings. This Tarot card can represent whatever makes an individual man feel powerful (a good feeling, usually). It can even translate ‘a man who has,’ with another card supplying what that is. Here is the people person, the social friend of everybody, and the natural born leader, the sexually attractive fellow. Besides being the attractive adult established man, King of Pentacles is associated with money in an Establishment way (the banker; the Chief Financial Officer), with influence, with being the family man, the masterful man (skilled, socially adept), the provider, the man who is very comfortable initiating the action, and the man who is ‘known,’ who is a public figure or whom ‘everyone knows.’
Today, he is the autocratic father, once.

At first glance, King of Pentacles is the flashy daddy, World is the woman who doesn’t put up with drama, and Six of Cups is their children. A pubic man (King of Pentacles) and a private woman (World) he can trust (Six of Cups). A sexy man (King of Pentacles) and his shapely gal (World) in a comfortable romance, too.
Six of Cups is the safe neighborhood for the children of a masterful woman and a masterful man who is a good provider.
Both Six of Cups and World are about safety, in different ways. Six of Cups is the cozy sweet old-fashioned life that goes on undisturbed as it is. World has attained the skill and the status that repels intruders so that World lives invisibly in peace, the undisturbed rock in the river. Note that when World is about being the deterrent to intrusion of whatever sort, it can apply to either gender. World can simply stand for the general principle of ‘inviolable’ or being ‘Teflon.’
Opposites attract, often. King of Pentacles’ extroverted charisma contrasts sharply with World’s introverted intolerance. King of Pentacles’ theater of operations is public, and World’s theater of operations is otherworldly or at least intellectual. These two can make a treaty not to get in one another’s way, easily.

The simplest meaning for World is what happens here today. World has that wall wreath around her (magic circle if you want to get technical). That’s all we use here at the moment. She is invulnerable, unencumbered, enjoying her privacy undisturbed, by herself, with no one to aggravate her. She excludes herself from being available, and from whatever she isn’t interested in – precisely because she is interested in her own things. You can think of World with a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign on her door … but she doesn’t need one.
Wheel of Fortune
The simplest meaning for Wheel of Fortune is what happens here today. While its illustration is both complex and opaque, nine out of then times Wheel of Fortune means one of these: a chance or opportunity to; luck; it happens (usually something great), wonderful, miracle, destiny, and a windfall or payoff.
Six of Swords
Six of Swords is getting out of a bad spot or getting away from a dismal reality, putting the past behind. It can mean a few other things commonly, like ‘the departed,’ uncharted territory, going overseas, being left behind, a boat trip, and simply ‘The worst is over.’ Six of Swords is a depressing card but hopeful about the future. The future is going to be much better here because the past has been so awful. We have all been in this spot.

World and Wheel of Fortune are occult-oriented Rider Waite Tarot cards. Together, they are a deep study … and you seldom see them together! Both involve the concept of nonphysical entities interfering with real-world events – involve spiritual forces interfering in our daily reality. Wheel of Fortune diagrams the process by having the Hebrew alphabet letters of God’s name alternate with the letters R, O, T, and A, which is the root word for ‘rotation’ in English. Rota means wheel.
Rota refers to several ancient concepts in myths. One of these myths involves Apollo, and also involves hell as being the end of the (flat) earth where the dragons lived – a no-man’s-land. (You see the towers that mark the border of this evil place in Moon.) So Wheel of Fortune is about the interference, through coincidence, of spiritual entities in human affairs. The coincidence part is what makes this Wheel of Fortune Tarot card all about luck, chance, opportunity, and happenings.
World, on the other hand, diagrams the process of shutting the undesirable spiritual entities out of a person’s reality by that person being such a strong spiritual force that the entities are repelled, and therefore have no influence. So World is about being yourself so energetically that no one who would mess with you wants to get in your way.
You can apply this process to the same process of repelling outside influences that you see in Strength, where Strength’s force of character repels the influence of the wannabe attacker, the lion. THAT is World’s usual application in realtime Tarot work.
Technically, the card labeled ‘World’ for this ‘Master of Both Worlds’ concept states that a Master of Both World’s spiritual abilities make him or her invulnerable to interference. A Master of Both Worlds is a magician who has completed expertise in both dark-side magic and white magic. So that is where the illustration you see in World comes from: She dances with those two wands. It is saying when you are a spiritual power unto yourself, bully spirits who disrupt and interfere will leave you alone. So World is to spiritual life what a martial artist is to street life!
Six of Swords expresses the ‘leave that person alone’ that we describe.
World is in stealth mode re the would be mischief makers. World is off the radar of anything looking to interfere with or disrupt – or even distract or annoy, for that matter. Why? – because, as a spiritual adept (or because of her spiritual expertise), she can handle opposition before it gets near. Bad entities avoid her because her reputation precedes her. (Same as Strength.)
Six of Swords can be an earlier time in World’s life. Six of Swords is retiring from a losing battle, to live again another day. Its illustration is about leaving a place behind, leaving a life behind, that is dismal. Leaving with nothing to call your own. Withdrawing from the field of combat.
So Six of Swords is in recovery from engagement, and World is disengaged already. In Six of Swords you see refugees leaving under cover of darkness, leaving without possessions.
