Page of Pentacles is what we call an identity card. Pages were conscious of their image because they needed goodwill to become knights: There were several routines and rituals they had to pass tests on, not just swordsmanship. So you find Page of Pentacles sometimes just saying ‘I am’ or ‘he is’ or ‘she is.’ Our Page stares into the mirror.
Emperor is an old man, and this card represents the mature stage, the later stage of anything, in which it is established … the stage where rigidity sets in. You know, the stage where you think you know everything about it now, you’re the expert.
