Tarot Readings for You for July 5, 2013 Friday(c)
Guidance We are about people’s definitions of success, and about the ways they either do or do not succeed – where they choose not to succeed even. The underlying message is to balance out both the factors that favor your purpose and the factors that slow you down – to use wind that is against your direction to further it (tack against the wind, mariners call it). We also point out that your definition of success is a factor in whether you are a success. (Duh.) And lastly, achievement isn’t just about the physical but also about ‘out there’ (spiritual and mental) expertise and skill as well – spiritual victories count.

Death is like the zero in mathematics. It usually means a negative word (no, never, not, don’t, won’t, can’t, end of) that modifies a nearby card. This spread is a study in Death, in how it aspects one or another of its fellow Rider Waite Tarot citizens in Tarot Verbatim(TM). If you are interested in that, go to the last category of sentences and see how the negative modifier moves around to make different stories about a car. It is very obvious there – demonstrated clearly. Throughout, Death makes diverse and contradictory meanings.
Knight of Pentacles and Chariot are very ambitious men, driven men. Chariot is a success. Knight of Pentacles is determined to ‘make it.’ Knight of Pentacles emphasizes the focusing on one thing; Chariot emphasizes the willpower and the skill to use all the elements of the situation to get the job done, not the favorable ones. Chariot is the project manager, the strategist, and he succeeds like a Marine, by any means.
The remaining card is the quiet woman, she who knows all, the lady, the woman who stays in one place (or stays at home), the passive party. She represents spiritual expertise, psychic and paranormal abilities. She is the feminine principle of receptivity, as Magician is the male principle, which harkens back to the esoteric concept of being active on one plane and being passive on the other. She also stands for higher planes, especially mental and spiritual ones. She is the force or power behind something (the back seat driver, so to speak) and is The Other Woman.
High Priestess’ other-plane expertise is echoed in Chariot, who is using wands (and using the way he hitched them to his wagon) to get two sphinxes to go the way he wills them to when they are each programmed to go only in one direction, a left or a right turn. He is using the black and the white together to accomplish his purpose.
Both Chariot and High Priestess express the idea of balance – he in the black and white steeds, she in the “B” and the “J” (mercy and justice) of those pillars of Kabbalah. She is surrounded by Kabbalah items.

Death is your negative modifier or negator. Without a question, the meaning of a spread will vary very widely depending on which card the negator modifies. People get upset when they see “The Death Card” but when it modifies a ‘bad’ card’ the two negatives make a positive. Keep that in mind if you read cards yourself. The illustration is of the crown held by the bishop when a king dies before the new king is crowned. Hence, a change of regimes, a shift of power is the meaning you would expect. It doesn’t come up for that in Tarot Verbatim(TM) though; although it does mean the end of something.
Knight of Pentacles is driven, determined, ambitious, focused on a main interest, obsessed. He is macho, a tough guy, a very physical guy, is strong of body. He aims to get the job done; whereas Chariot has done the job and is in control of the situation. His illustration in the Rider Waite system shows the tough looking dude on a tough-looking horse, staring at this one thing he has in mind. His ambition is about himself, whereas Chariot’s is about accomplishing the project, meeting the goal.
Chariot is the leader. He has achieved, he has got the job done and the situation under control. He is skilled at using both factors that favor his success and factors that are antagonistic to his achieving it to fuel his arrival where he wants to be. A self-made man. Depicted in the Rider Waite system as the charioteer who has the black steed going left and the white steed going right, and he gets a forward movement out of that by hitching them so they get in one another’s way and pull forward. It’s called ‘tacking against the wind’ in maritime lingo. This energy is not self-promoting per se; it is goal oriented about a project being accomplished.
High Priestess is passive, has spiritual expertise, is quiet. In Rider Waite, she sits on an invisible throne, with the “B” and the “J” that mean mercy and severity or justice. The tree of the Kabbalah, with pomegranates, is behind her. She wears the cross and has the book of knowledge in her lap, not looking at it because … she wrote it. She knows, she understands, she is camouflaged. She is the lady, and the other woman, in practical application. Her spiritual and other-plane expertise are echoed in Chariot, in his ability to use the black and the white together to accomplish his purposes. She can also represent the Tarot deck.

All the words of each Tarot card reading you see here are a phrase-by-phrase translation of the scene pictured on those cards: no filler, no psychic impressions, no spirit guide. Word-for-word Tarot Verbatim(TM).
In these group readings, there’s no question (and no Questioner) to limit what the four cards can mean, so they can mean opposite things.
When there is a negative-meaning card (a ‘negator,’ I call them), the readings contradict one another because that card can make any of the other cards in the spread negative. Negator cards mean things like: no, never, not, end, can’t, etc. Never be queasy about the number of ‘bad’ card because it takes two bad cards to say ‘not dead’ and only one to say ‘dead.’
Without a question or a Questioner, pronouns (I, you, he, she, we, they, etc.) are very flexible. I leave out pronouns in writing this as much as possible – awkward to do that sometimes. When I put them in parentheses, feel very free to change them around to suit yourself.
Now in a ‘real’ individual reading, the questioner asks a specific question which provides at least half the information! In an individual’s reading, the parties are identified and sometimes a time frame is too. Here, in a group reading, we cannot do that and so we get more variety of sentences.
Horoscopes are group readings, too. Astrology is based on someone else’s birth data, though, so a ‘solar’ group horoscope never really solidly applies to you! (Astrologers want you to know this!)
Tarot successfully addresses the group of visitors, whoever they are. It provides useful information that applies to their daily lives: They tell you this in the comments, for three years now. Tarot can tell you things about people you don’t know personally – such as whoever on your job has a say in your raise or continued employment there, whether that is one person or many. Visitors report that the information is equally accurate for new visitors as it is for the family of regular visitors.
Do you want to read Rider Waite Tarot, yourself? Start with Learn Tarot by Pictures to get the day’s cards’ individual meanings; then read Learn Tarot by Observation, which gives you the thinking those four cards inspire in a qualified reader. Next, Group Analytical Tarot Cards Reading is the various things those four cards can say (without a question to guide them). Then, Guidance is a summary.
In this way, your intuition allows you to learn to read the cards without much effort if you come often enough. Regular visitors can just put it together.
