GUIDANCE The past assets itself unbidden into our thoughts, and nostalgia for an old friend, an old lover, an old home or neighborhood, or our old life in the good old days replays on the screen of our memory. Do you remember mostly the warm fuzzy moments and things at times like this? Somewhere in human psyche are doors to memories, and even filters to memories. Those doors color and reframe the content that gets through to our conscious screen.

Could This Be YOU?

because you know a few of them intimately AND

Eight of Cups – He is a pilgrim in the Middle Ages on a trek to Jerusalem; they wore red. A mountain and river force him to detour from his road-map but he will resume the journey after going around them or avoiding them. That’s the story behind this illustration. So Eight of Cups is all about an interruption or disruption (or even a derailment like running off the road) from the intended direction, about a switch or change, about avoiding, about ending one thing and beginning another (a meaning most Tarot systems assign to Death), about quitting, even about abandoning, about timing – especially ‘time to leave.’ These are the common meanings of Eight of Cups.
.
Speaking of leaving, Eight of Cups is also a departure from something, as well as translating ‘depart.’ Expect Eight of Cups to say ‘I’m outta here.’ It also very often translates ‘not anymore,’ and you find this meaning wrapping its two words around another card so that with Eight of Pentacles, the pair would say ‘not employed anymore.’ And then this meaning becomes a category of negators. It’s a small step from ‘not anymore’ to ‘No, you’re not’ or ‘When you’re no [kid] anymore.’ But Eight of Cups isn’t a pure at-will negator; you will get a feel for this.
.
We used to. Eight of Cups will say that. Best way to think of this one is that after quitting, that’s what used to be, it’s left behind and in the past now.
.
Hanged Man – Most, if not all, of Hanged Man’s terms are about thinking, feeling, intensity, and realization, especially subconscious realization (where your subconscious drops a message in all its detail at once onto the floor of your physical awareness: eureka, ‘get it,’ extrasensory perception. Hanged Man also is a reminder, something that jogs memory.
.
The psychic element, the subconscious, is featured in the illustration if you know the backstory. It hearkens back to myths in which the hero, god (protagonist/subject of saga) sacrifices himself hanging on a tree for three days in exchange for ‘wisdom, by which is meant psychic awareness and magic powers. The subconscious is the vector for psychism and for mysterious abilities.
.
Note that the realization occurs in a flash, in an instant … like love at first sight. In mundane daily life, Hanged Man refers to the kind of flash realization like ‘lipstick on the collar’ or like ‘I coulda had a V8.’ In a larger sense, Hanged Man refers to: instinct, intuition, hunch, ‘smell it,’ gets it,’ you just know, catch on, feel it, you just know, see, sudden awareness, discovery, thinking, remember.
.
Hanged Man also represents the finished product to all this special awareness: enlightenment.
.
Hanged Man is intense feeling, irrespective of the background we have been talking about here. So watch for it to say ‘turned on,’ intense feeling, intense.
Six of Cups – Two well-brought-up kids love and trust one another as close friends. In front of where they live, he is giving his friend his flowers. There are no adults around, so we assume this is a good safe neighborhood. All of these elements to this illustration make meanings for this Rider Waite Tarot card.
.
This is the main card for children. The boy and/or the girl. Kid or child, having kids or children, being a good girl or good boy or good kid (no matter your age). Six of Cups also combines the ‘kid’ theme with the house/home theme to say things like ‘the kid is home,’ or your childhood home, or the place you came from, or a safe neighborhood for children.
.
So Six of Cups owns safe zones, safe neighborhood, safe situations, kids or child or childhood, trust, love, friends, giving or receiving a gift, and romantic love (because a boy gives a girl flowers).
.
Six of Cups is about the past: the good old days, things the way the used to be, past friends or past lovers, reminiscing, nostalgia, the distant past, the cozy life, the safe neighborhood.
.
Six of Cups is of course about love and trust, and not just romantic love and trust. It is about the nest or cocooning, sweet life, the good life, ‘the way we were.’
.
And don’t forget Six of Cups also serves as a real estate card, re the houses in the background and the ‘safe place’ concept. A safe neighborhood for children. It also means an old home, old-fashioned home (including a cottage or quaint house like Victorian, etc).
