Tarot Readings for You for April 9-10, 2018 Monday-Tuesday©

GUIDANCE     You come out of your shell cleanly. Limited by who you now are, you change that abruptly (finally!). Getting stuck rebirths you a new life, in different ways, large and small ways. A promotion results from a dead-end job, enabling you to be a different person. Getting sick enough leads to recovery and you feel at your best. Things change to a new scene when you blurt out something you were stifling. Happy New One

Eight of Swords Limitations, self-imposed limitations, being helpless or feeling helpless. Tied up or ‘tied up.’ Can’t or can’t-itis. The loose binding on the gal, and the heavy swords stuck tip-deep in the mud, and the fact no one is around, express the self-imposed part of Eight of Swords’ meanings – like the proverbial elephant chained with twine.

.

The most frequent word for Eight of Swords is ‘can’t.’ That includes the excuse-making ‘can’t.’

.

But in Tarot Verbatim™ Eight of Swords is the lead death card, with some others being mere support for that theme. So Eight of Swords is your card for words like: death, dead, dead to, dead body, deceased, dead-end.

.

Eight of Swords is all about limitations (whether real or made-up, or imagined). Today these limitations are expressed in these ways: my shell; after being shut in; the box; jail; there’s no way; stifle; He is stuck for; shut up; what holds me back is; a disabled person; that limits you; limited by.

.

Once in a while this Eight of Swords card expresses the doldrums, the way we feel when ‘nothing’s happening.’ Today is one of those instances.

Judgment Today Judgment is in the company of Eight of Swords which means death, as Judgment means life after death. Judgment also is getting loose from the limitations of Eight of Swords. So today we have life after death, alive again, brought back to life, getting out of – or hatching out of – or being promoted out of. Today we are not using some of Judgment’s other meanings. You can Google ‘Judgment Tarot Verbatim’ to get other meanings of Judgment from the archives of Tarot Verbatim™.

.

Judgment means ‘change’ and means ‘again’ because those coffinated folks are alive again, and that’s a change – a sudden change, as Judgment also means sudden. It’s a promotion to be alive again, and Judgment means promotion today. The new life also prompts Judgment to translate ‘new’ in various ways too.

.

The horn makes this big announcement, which brings Judgment into the speak/tell/say Tarot tribe. It also brings Judgment all sorts of ‘loud noise’ meanings because, well, that horn is loud enough to wake the dead.

.

Judgment also is a revelation. That translates ‘Eureka’ today.

Page of Wands Page of Wands’ two main meanings are the speak/tell/say Tarot family (a big family, that!) and ‘identity’: It’s an identity card. Identity cards represent people (or person) individually – often as pronouns; they represent being personally present; and they represent an image, a type of person. Page of Wands can even translate ‘type of person’ after another card that identifies which type. Page of Wands is the young well-dressed well-spoken clean-cut upstanding good guy. Today we have all these identity words: standup guy; good-looking guy; young fellow; your best self; myself; yourself; young optimistic self; who you are; an image; the best person; being the good guy.

.

Page of Wands is the physical self; it even translates ‘physical.’ It also translates ‘body.’ Today, with Eight of Swords, it is a dead body. (But don’t worry, recovery in Judgment is right at hand).

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

.. ….. …        .

.

Judgment and Page of Wands are both speaking up. Both are card-carrying Tarot members of the speak/tell/say clan. They come from very different perspectives, though. Judgment can be a big announcement, can be a public declaration or publicity; Page of Wands is a person having something to say, or speaking up.

.

Eight of Swords is stuck in a box of something; Judgment is getting out of the box and having a new lease on life; Page of Wands is being the best person one can. So our main story is that getting out of, or getting away from, what hinders and limits us gets us into a new phase of well-being.

.

We also have, in our Tarot story here, death and rebirth. Eight of Swords is the main card that means death in Tarot Verbatim™, and Judgment, of course, is life after death. (And Page of Wands can be the body!) Judgment and Eight of Swords tell of recovery from anything that suppresses, hinders, holds back, or limits, tell of a new life and a new phase after being unable, disabled, shut in, locked up, or anything like those.

.

Other stories, yes. Judgment means ‘ again’ as well as speak. So Judgment with Eight of Swords say ‘ Can’t (whatever) again,’ and also say ‘ Can’t say.’ Get out of jail’ is also in Judgment and Eight of Swords because Eight of Swords is locked up (referring to anything) and Judgment is getting out of being confined (in those coffins).

. ……. ….. ……     . ..

.

AND NOW WITHOUT THE PICTURES:

Judgment means ‘again’ as well as speak. So Judgment with Eight of Swords say ‘Can’t (whatever) again,’ and also say ‘Can’t say.’ Get out of jail’ is also in Judgment and Eight of Swords because Eight of Swords is locked up (referring to anything) and Judgment is getting out of being confined (in those coffins).

Eight of Swords – In Tarot Verbatim, Eight of Swords is the actual death card. On one hand, it means limitations, can’t and unable to and disabled, being stuck or being in a rut, locked up (jail, prison), or any sort of incapacity. Being locked up, as in jail or prison, or your items in a safe also is ruled by Eight of Swords.

,

Actually, ‘contained’ is the key word for this set of meanings, so you find Eight of Swords appearing when you ask where a lost item is, meaning it’s in a container (a glove box, drawer, etc.).

.

On the other hand, note that the victim (yes, Eight of Swords also means victim) is loosely tied, the swords are stuck in the mud by their tips, and no one is around. Eight of Swords is often the kind of ‘can’t’ that is an excuse and means ‘ain’t gonna.’

.

Use your imagination, because Eight of Swords expands to more miscellaneous related concepts like being in a rut, cocooning, being fenced in (a literal fence, or the one in the cowboy song), what holds you (or anyone or anything) back, what suppresses, or suppressing something, ‘hands are tied,’ when that is an excuse and when it isn’t.

.

This is rarer, but the woman is isolated from the house on the hill, which gives Eight of Swords a category about being marginalized, the glass ceiling, a helpless feeling, self-imposed limitations and blocks, and even being shunned or untouchable in some way.

Judgment Judgment is one of the cards that has a lot of meanings related only by the illustration – so it’s not an anchor card. Usually, you identify the subject of your Tarot talk, and then fit Judgment in.

.

You see people who were dead coming alive, getting out of the coffins (from whence come all the confinement and containment meanings). The recovery from death brings Judgment a whole kingdom of words beginning in ‘re-’ which mean ‘again’ in some way – like recover, resurrect and resurrection of, re-do, remind or reminder, regenerate, regain, repeat, reinstate … and so on forever. Keep in mind that Judgment is one of many cards that translate ‘again.’

.

Recovery from death also brings various concepts that mean ‘a return to the former state or condition,’ and also, by extension, to go back to a place. (More on this later.) Obviously, Judgment is your go-to card for near-death experience.

.

Coming up out of the coffins brings Judgment phrases like: get over it, gets out of, bursts out of, pops up, release, launch, unexpected appearance.

.

Being alive after being dead is a change, so Judgment is one of many cards that translates ‘change.’ Since it means a big announcement as well, these two concepts combine to also mean: an instantaneous change of perspective, as in epiphany, revelation, realization, and ‘getting it’ – in which case you may very well see Hanged Man hanging around because he means these things too, more than Judgment does.

.

The people who are no longer dead but alive also have a whole new life, a new level of experience, are a whole new person, and Judgment is the lead card for conversion, revelation, epiphany, and changing your mind or your ways. This can combine with recovering from something that held you (or whoever) back – or not.

.

Then there’s the horn. It’s the big announcement. It brings three main trunks of meanings to Judgment. First, Judgment is a member in very good standing of the large speak/tell/say Tarot tribe. Today Judgment translates: people saying, they tell you, they say, the word, calling you, and tell them. In the military, you may see Judgment saying the ‘Now Hear This.’ And of course, the ‘big announcement’ can be a proposal of marriage or a declaration of love when romance is the subject.

.

The second class of meanings that arise from the horn is ‘alarm.’ The noise wakes the dead, so Judgment is about waking up, about the alarm or loud noise that woke you up. So it means ‘loud.’ This includes ‘alarming,’ anything alarming, anything that immediately gets your attention. Not only the alarm that wakes you up from sleep, but a car horn, fire alarm, siren, etc. These may very well bring Judgment to your spread.

.

The third class of meanings that arise from the horn refers to musical instruments (especially horns, of course). Since we don’t have pictures of other instruments on other cards, Judgment covers all of these when you ask. Especially with Star (who is singing), Judgment will refer to a performance of any sort of music.

.

Judgment is also a new thing, the start of something, the first time. That’s because of the new life, of course. But note that the new life Judgment refers to is the second time around – so Judgment also means the second time, or going back to the old way or the old thing … or the old love interest. These meanings conflict potentially – the first time or the second time.

.

Judgment is also a legal card, which we are not referring to today.

Four of Swords Meditating on the purpose of his future life as a knight is what the fellow lying upon the stone container of a coffin is doing; he isn’t dead. But Four of Swords can be a support card for death, especially if Eight of Swords (Tarot Verbatim’s™ actual death card), or sometimes the card labeled ‘Death,’ which isn’t a death card, is present. Four of Swords also is a funeral, and means phrases that have ‘death’ or ‘dead’ in them but refer to something else: dead to the world, dead drunk. Four of Swords is also the deceased.

.

Four of Swords is the main card for coma, being bed-ridden, getting a good night’s rest, being a ‘couch potato,’ the dormant phase of anything, and of course meditation. It also means ‘time out’ and detaching or cocooning.

.

Four of Swords is staying in one place, isn’t participating, isn’t doing (whatever the subject is), isn’t doing anything, can’t do anything. ‘Let the world turn without me tonight’ mood. Although he isn’t strictly a negator card, Four of Swords can act as an ‘isn’t’ or a ‘not’ at times.

.

Four of Swords also is staying the same, and things are as they usually are, status quo, what you’re used to (all true of Hierophant too). Sometimes he is just waiting, and sometimes he is serving time.

.

Four of Swords is indifferent, turned off, not interested, isn’t responding (including the medical term ‘unresponsive’) and definitely not excited about it.

.

He meditates in the town cathedral or church, so Four of Swords also belongs to the church theme as well as the meditation theme. It is the main card for vision quest, of course.

Eight of Swords and Four of Swords both refer to death, and to limitations. Judgment is recovery, right there between them. Eight of Swords means can’t, and Four of Swords can mean that in just the right settings. You can think of Eight of Swords as being prevented from or unable to, and Four of Swords as simply not doing, or refraining from action by choice.

.

Judgment has a wardrobe of meanings, loosely related. Both ‘ again’ and ‘ say’ belong to Judgment, which allows our spread variety.

.

Judgment is to get free, or get out of, and Eight of Swords is jail, prison, or being locked into anything (like a contract, for instance). Judgment is to change, and Four of Swords is to remain the same. You can see ‘ can’t change’ in Judgment and Eight of Swords. On the other hand, Eight of Swords is fenced in, and Four of Swords is not going to participate in that.

Judgment is the big announcement, and Four of Swords is waiting for it.

The main theme is found in Judgment’s getting out of the confinement of Eight of Swords, or getting free of its limitations. That story is hampered some by Four of Swords not doing anything, or having nothing to do with the big change there.

Tarot Readings for You for April 9, 2015 Thursday©

GUIDANCE Today’s spread is amazing! We want out of the box, and then we realize it’s what we wanted that got us into the box. Life is like that sometimes. ‘Be careful what you wish for.’ We explore … really go spelunking … this aspect of biographies. The price of compromise is like a hidden tax. It’s so easy to see in other people: She marries him for his money, to learn that money isn’t everything. He marries her for her looks, to discover looks aren’t important. But it’s not so easy when we look at our own biography. Where did you compromise? – and do you want to … can you … go back to the crossroads and take your untraveled path?

Eight of Swords – Judgment – Nine of Cups

.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

.

………………………     Hmm, I said, composing this on Easter Sunday, ‘We’ve got death (Eight of Swords), resurrection, (Judgment) and ‘Your wish is granted’ (Nine of Cups). (Yes, I’m a few days ahead.) (Judgment also means realizing and waking up, which enriches our one-sentence readings.) Aside from that, these three Tarot cards – which is rare – don’t have interlocking meanings like any three usually do. (You noticed that.) These three cards make stories, and the stories are about being stuck, getting free, and what you desire being a factor in those two situations.

…………………………..Eight of Swords in Tarot Verbatim™ is the actual death card. It shares with Devil the idea that our attachments that limit us are voluntary: The chains are loose around the Adam and the Eve figure in Devil, and the bindings of Eight of Swords are loose too, and no one’s around. Eight of Swords’ main meanings are limitations, being stuck, being or feeling helpless, being or feeling shut in, ‘can’t’ and being hopeless or stymied, suffocated. It often translates ‘what holds you back.’

Eight of Swords also means a container, literally, and to be shut in, and ‘locked,’ including a safe, or a person locked up. It means paralysis too, whether literal or figurative – and handicapped. Naturally, its death meaning is infrequent – but real. Eight of Swords can translate ‘fatal’ next to a danger or disease card.

Someday I will write a pamphlet on the death theme. I am thinking of a library of Tarot books, one card per book, and some on themes, and then some on the actual practice of Tarot. That’s going to be a school.

…………………………..Judgment is new life, new perspective, realization (eureka, epiphany, ‘get it’), awakening or waking up, getting free of the limitations or the box (literally, here in the picture!) you were in. Judgment is enlightenment and salvation and inspired life-changing moments. This Tarot Verbatim™ card has ancillary (minor) meanings based on details of its illustration: any loud noise (especially a sudden one, like a car horn), a horn player or other musician, an alarm clock going off, surprise, being in or on water, and discovering something factual, something coming to light as in an investigation, for instance. (For instance, Eight of Swords and Judgment could be part of a story about finding something dead in water.)

Judgment – not today though – is a legal card. We won’t go into that here; it is busy doing something else today.

…………………………..Nine of Cups, Your Wish Is Granted, is, like, everybody’s favorite card, and it is a powerful influence for good very often, like Wheel of Fortune is. In fact, when you see those two holding hands in your spread, well, your day (or Querant’s day) has come. Today we poke its flip side, the ‘Be careful what you wish for’ side. Today, in the shadow of Eight of Swords’ limitations, we have to admit that what limits us is a side effect of what we actually want. I think our brains are wired to wall off that realization, somehow. Because oh how we sidestep it! Today Nine of Cups is also a neighbor of Judgment, the new life, new perspective, life-changing realization, and ‘to get out of.’ It also means to go back, so that ‘I want to go back’ is stated too. So Nine of Cups today is about the life we want to have, the life that is about to dawn.

Oh how we long for freedom when the price of what we have chosen kicks in! We hear the click of the lock behind us as we go through a crossroad intersection, and we don’t take notice of it until we are down the road a while. Are we really locked into this course? Sometimes, we can retrace our steps and make another choice to be free of the path we originally embraced. This story is about that moment of realization in our life stories.

Now we show where each of the phrases in each of the sentences comes from:

……………………………

Tarot Readings: Death Wishes (Eight of Swords and Nine of Cups)

LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES

.

Eight of Swords……….. Eight of Swords is obviously stymied and not doing anything about being confined. Eight of Swords is trapped, frozen in place and paralyzed into inaction. The most general meaning of Eight of Swords is limitations. Eight of Swords is that ‘I can’t’ or ‘You can’t’ that vetoes action. In its illustration, the bindings on the blindfolded woman are very loose, thus self-imposed. She is in a fix, and the distant dwelling above on the steep hill can be a hint that the fix is social or family life. But the artist put it almost out of the picture because Eight of Swords is meant to be very general: any kind of limitation at all. Procrastination fits this Eight of Swords profile too. This card’s helpless feeling makes it the primary card for death.

Besides its social meanings, Eight of Swords has some mechanical ones. It means a container, a lock box (including safes and prisons), and a suggestion to lock something up.

.

Judgment………….Judgment is the moment of new birth, of resurrection from a past life form – the butterfly coming out of the confinement of the cocoon, that life-changing eureka epiphany, that magic moment we drop out of our profile and into something unstructured, the opening of the door to new consciousness. Judgment is leaving death behind for something new, untried, and we hope better. That it is also a legal card is interesting, you think? Judgment emphasizes the moment of realization, the waking up from sleep.

Other, more mundane, meanings for Judgment are: suddenly, change, sudden change, news, go back or come back, and any of the words and phrases that mean to say or to tell.

The loud noise of the horn opens the door for Judgment to mean any loud – especially loud and sudden – noise at all. The horn can apply to that kind of music, or any kind of instrument player. The angel can be literal, or can represent, say, an ‘angel’ whose funding gives a project a new lease on life.

.

Nine of Cups…………Nine of Cups is fat and happy. He ate it all and is safunsified. This is the life of excess, or is being content with life as it is. You could say Nine of Cups is both wanting what you get and getting what you want. The main application is what everybody says about Nine of Cups: Your Wish Is Granted. Lovely when it appears as the first Self card in Celtic Cross. This ‘getting what you want’ can apply to a specific item, specific happening, or to the overall scene of your question.

BE IT NOTED, however, that often Nine of Cups produces ‘I want’ in your sentence. But, nevertheless, that happens when getting it is implied, usually. Other phrases for Nine of Cups are: grateful, Thank you, pleases, delights, and feels so good.

Generally, this is an anchor card because its meaning is so defined and obvious. But today we draw out its more complex shadow side because it’s infected with Eight of Swords’ damper. Today Nine of Cups is ‘Be careful what you wish for.’
