Five of Cups – Strength – Two of Swords

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

                LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES..

.. ….. …     ..

Strength overcomes, handles a situation, prevents harm, quashes opposition, and nips trouble in the bud. You see her hushing up the lion there. Five of Cups is regret, is mourning a loss, is a loss, is sorry, and sometimes means waste. So these two tell a story of a winner and a loser, of overcoming or fixing a situation.

The third Tarot card. And wouldn’t you know we have a negative here. Two of Swords is: no, no way, don’t, stop, block or being blocked, denial. The negative modifier in a three-card spread can apply to either one, and even to each. So we can say not a winner, and we can say not a loser.

Five of Cups and Two of Swords is ‘not sorry’ or ‘no regrets,’ as well as ‘it’s not a loss’ or even not being a loser. (This is where we get the fellow who isn’t sorry she’s got him wrapped around her little finger.)

Strength handles things so well that when Two of Swords joins it, there’s no contest, or she doesn’t have anything to fight, or she can’t handle it, or the ‘demon within,’ the personal issue, isn’t overcome (yet), or she could not prevent it. Put these ideas into passive voice to eliminate the ‘she’ as well. Then you have: there’s nothing to fight, it cannot be handled, overcoming hasn’t happened yet, could not be prevented.

THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE READING: Note that switching to passive voice allow you not to state an actor in the action. ‘It could not be prevented’ is avoiding assigning Strength as a female – avoiding saying ‘SHE could not prevent it. (Remember this.)

Those of you who want to apply the how-to I present here … to see how it’s done in real-life practice … go to the two categories ‘NOW WE SHOW WHERE EACH PHRASE IN EACH SENTENCE COMES FROM’ and ‘HERE ARE PHRASES FOR ALL THREE 2-CARD COMBINATIONS.’ Fine points are found in those two categories that the other visitors don’t need.

Five of Cups is spilled wine … is about loss and waste and regret. Think of Five of Cups as Wishing to god you had or wishing to god you hadn’t. It is one of the alcoholism cards (of course). In the picture you can see ‘water under the bridge,’ which resonates with Five of Cups’ mood.

A bent figure in a black robe, gray sky, head bent, is obviously about mourning, being depressed, feeling like a loser or being a loser, and the loss (represented by spilled wine). By the way, that can be ‘spilled’ body fluid too.

Five of Wands is focusing on the past and turning one’s back all else, represented by the fact the mourning person has his or her back to the full containers (cups) of wine.

Strength is an esoteric card … all kinds of spiritual applications and undertones. Today, no. Today Strength is handling something, overcoming something – even has a fellow ‘wrapped around her little finger.

Here are those everyday (mundane) applications of Strength that we are using today: It’s a battle; overcome; tame him; fighting an addiction; made the opponent stop; getting the upper hand; be firm enough; did not let _ get the best of me; I fixed it; rough on you when you tried to get in my way; a fight on (her) hands; wraps him around her little finger; when you are battling; a stop loss; taking control; you can beat this; stay on top of things; strength of character; fight a battle; handling _ well; fight (him); overcome or fight; beat me up; prevent it; set _ straight; see to it; to fight.

Two of Swords is one of the simpler Rider Waite citizens. What you see is what you get, pretty much. How did she get in that fix, I wonder. It’s the dead of night and she’s in a night-dress, sitting on a stone bench with her back to a body of water, blindfolded, alone (like Eight of Swords), and has counterbalanced heavy double-edged swords crisscrossed in her slender arms. Like Eight of Swords, she is helpless: Putting the blades down is likely to cut her.

So Two of Swords means, like Eight of Swords, ‘can’t.’ It means there’s no way. It means stop, block and blocked, don’t let, no, and all the things that negative modifiers can apply. It means to shut out, or to be shut out – and then that extends to ‘denial.’ (Remember that – I keep forgetting to add it in.)

.

.

.

The past can be a worthy opponent to your peaceful occupation of your home-days. Is this you, ever? We don’t think of regret, guilt, and grief as opponents, but comes a time they do get in the way like that. The actual issue or situation is a separate thing from the affect it has on our feelings, you know? We don’t think of ‘putting them in their place.’ Sometimes we feel we have to beat up on ourselves, have to mourn, have to do a lot of penance for all that water that passed under yesteryear’s bridge and is already out to sea. That we have to ‘serve our time’ or something. Well, those things have become intruders at that point, and it’s time to lock the door already! You may regret straightening out these intrusive past issues, just the way you regret what you finally do to a bully, a mooch, or a nag – also intruders. Well, don’t. It’s your head they’re occupying. See the bad feelings within as the demon within, like an addiction, and clean house. Because it’s about time.

.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

                LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES..

.. …….…… ….. ……..     We have the old, or older, or established man here in Emperor, associated with work or doing activity himself, Eight of Pentacles, and associated with romance, children, a cozy old home, or the past, Six of Cups. We have snapshots. Our stories are about romance, getting married well, Daddy’s authority, senior men of whatever agency, organization, or family.

Emperor and Eight of Pentacles are stories about a boss at work, or seniority at work, or a workplace that is established, settled. Emperor and Eight of Pentacles is also a old or older man who is working. It could be about a policy of hiring older workers or older men.

Emperor and Six of Cups can be daddy and the kid(s). It can be one’s second childhood, as they say. It can be a May-December romance. It can be doing your elder a favor. It can even be the boss having a romance. Both these cards are old-fashioned.

Eight of Pentacles and Six of Cups, now that could be a kid doing chores, or child labor; it could be a comfortable workplace; it could describe mellowing out, or doing things when you are old; or the things we used to do, or doing things with someone you trust. Eight of Pentacles is the ‘do.’We have the old, or older, or established man here in Emperor, associated with work or doing activity himself, Eight of Pentacles, and associated with romance, children, a cozy old home, or the past, Six of Cups. We have snapshots. Our stories are about romance, getting married well, Daddy’s authority, senior men of whatever agency, organization, or family.

GET A SINGLE CARD’S MEANINGS: TYPE ITS NAME AND ‘TAROT VERBATIM’ INTO GOOGLE.

Emperor      I don’t know where he hides out in the deck, but Emperor, when I had fifteen years of index cards on two-card combinations, had the fewest cards in its box. He is a man of few words, what can I say.

Anyway, Emperor is, esoterically, as Number 4, the finished product, the end of the process or activity, and is therefore associated not only with being established, and being the most powerful position, but with stagnation and rigidity … you know … hidebound. Our stories are about romance, getting married well, Daddy’s authority, senior men of whatever agency, organization, or family.

Emperor’s words and phrases are about authority, and about being the old man, or old. Emperor is father, grandfather, God the Father, the mafia don, etc. Emperor represents the boss, the Establishment, ‘the old man,’ the CEO or most powerful position (like president or prime minister, or whatever they call themselves in a given place).

Emperor is the leader, but not the popular leader; he tends to occupy whatever throne he is on in an intrusive way, with some force behind him. But Emperor isn’t overtly connected with anything military, just orthodoxy, custom, tradition …. Can you see Hierophant overlapping here with the power of the state?

Here are the words and phrases that the card who supplies the least of … supplies today here: boss; seniority; senior man; established; CEO; old man; feel old; senior; elderly; mature man; VIP; my old man; __-December; rigid guy; my old age; old-fashioned; an old guy; grown-up man; old man’s; old enough to; stable; my Main Man; his old age; He fathers; papa; father; daddy; in his old age; Grandpa; Father has the authority; authority; until they are his age; in my old age; He is so stable; when I was your age; when you’re old; in our old age; older people; at my age; elders.

Eight of Pentacles      The carpenter pounds one item after another out quickly with the necessary force and noise. Eight of Pentacles is usually all about work, job, worker, labor, etc. Today we emphasize the steady doing or being that belongs to Eight of Pentacles. This card means ‘always.’ This card is about keeping it up consistently.

Eight of Pentacles can be about ‘always being’ as well as ‘always doing’ – or ‘always having.’ It owns ‘always.’ It also co-owns the ‘make’ words like ‘in the making.’ Doesn’t have to be making a physical object; Eight of Pentacles is making someone happy. Magician too owns ‘doing’ and ‘making.’ (Eight of Pentacles rents them from Magician.)

Here are Eight of Pentacles words and phrases: working; at work; work for; worked as always; does the maintenance; employees; workers … this job; do things for; always; keeps (giv)ing; steady; sticking with; what I am doing; I am getting; I’m still; one more; in the making; often; always; each and every; one after another; is work; does things; frequent … make him; he works; he … one after the other; every day; you always have; has more; works with; make _ do chores; has always been; he works at; step by step; he keeps; had a job; do things with; dong things; working out … still.

Six of Cups      Six of Cups is a wide-spectrum Tarot entity. We use a few of its applications here, but if you want the full scope, just type ‘Six of Cups Tarot Verbatim’ into Google, and you got it.

You see a little boy handing a girl his age a pot of flowers outdoors in cool weather, in front of large residential buildings. You can guess meanings of home-sweet-home; children; romance; gift; children; childhood; tender moments; friends. You could probably extend that to trust, innocence, receiving a gift, and siblings.

An old house, a favor, the good life, memories, the good old days, and nostalgia are some lesser apparents.

In the company of Emperor, Six of Cups tends toward a father and children.

.

.

.

.

.

An old man who chooses young romantic partners is comfortable being daddy, being the boss: Everybody knows that, but we tend not to think of his going about this deliberately because he isn’t comfortable relating to an equal. Today we have snapshots of daddy with his kids, and daddy in a romance, and the pictures look similar.

Tarot Readings for You for October 8, 2015 Thursday©

GUIDANCE      “I regret nothing.” Edith Piaf said that in her very famous classic song. We are cutting our losses. We are not sorry for what we are about to do. I shall stop drinking. It’s coming; you haven’t missed it. Just don’t continue in a losing proposition, because losses never have to continue. Money comes in, and you’re not broke anymore. It’s not going to be as bad as you think, either. Just wait: You won’t be sorry. Look ahead to what’s coming because the past is canceled already.

Tarot Readings: Won’t be sorry (Five of Cups and Two of Swords)

Never will I regret.

Not going to be melancholy.

You won’t be sorry.

I am not sorry for what I’m about to do.

Waste not, and you will want not.

.. …….….  .. …..

Tarot Readings: The Past and the Future (Five of Cups and Three of Wands)

It’s neither past nor future.

It’s coming; you haven’t missed it.

I don’t continue a losing proposition.

With ‘stop losses,’ you are making money.

Not looking ahead, just contemplating the past.

Looking ahead now, never mind what happened back there.

No more preoccupation with the tragedy: I am looking ahead.

The bad time is back there, not upcoming.

The future isn’t anything like what used to be.

It’s not what you don’t have, it’s what you will have.

.. …….……   …..

Tarot Readings: Going to Be Sorry (Five of Cups and Three of Wands)

There’s no future here … failure.

In the end he is going to be sorry.

I’m going to be sorry if I don’t.

.. …….….. .  …..

.. …….…… ….. ………, Well, Five of Cups is past; Three of Wands is Future; and Two of Swords is never. That’s one way to look at it. Two of Swords is a negator: That’s pretty much its only day-job. So Two of Swords can make Five of Cups not sorry, not sick, and not drinking. And Two of Swords can make Three of Wands not going to be, not going to happen, and not going to continue.

Five of Cups regrets the past; Three of Wands looks forward to the future. Two of Swords applies the brakes somewhere. Two of Swords makes: It’s neither past nor future. I kinda like that thought, myself.

Five of Cups     Beneath a gray-all-over sky, a black-robed bent figure gazes at wasted wine on the ground, his back to the full glasses. More than anything, remember Five of Cups is a feeling, it’s emotional. Five of Cups is loss, and Five of Cups is haunted mourning the past. Spilled wine brings up drinking as well as giving up the alcohol. Hangover, too.

Common meanings for Five of Cups are losing and being the loser, failing and failure, being broke and losing money, the sad past or tragedy, bad scenes and downtimes, and regret … lots of regret and even being ashamed, repenting, wishing to God you had … or had not. The good thing about Five of Cups is: It is past.

Five of Cups is sometimes about illness, feeling sick. It is about depression and melancholy too.

Two of Swords      Two of Swords is the end, the end of the line. You feel what it means before you think it. I see an ‘X’ and I feel a railroad crossing sign: Do Not Enter sign. This card is a main negator card: no, never, not, can’t, won’t, don’t, impossible, end, roadblock, stop.

You see a woman in thin clothing, blindfolded, arms anchored crossed with heavy double-edged swords, sitting on a stone bench with her back to a lake, and a sliver of a moon near mid-sky. She is in a fix, and this card can mean just that.

Three of Wands      Today in its present Tarot company, Three of Wands is encouraging and reassuring in contrast to Five of Cups’ discouraging perspective. Three of Wands is good things ahead (and Five of Cups is bad things past). The good things aren’t just money but refer to a good outlook, good situations, good circumstances. ‘Ahead’ is the key word here: Three of Wands is future oriented. And not only future, but continuing, ongoing … even always.

Three of Wands is looking ahead with hope, well-founded hope. Its ‘good things coming’ arises from past efforts, because the merchant in the picture has made his investment, and put his goods on those ships, and now here comes his profit on those same ships. He knows his money is there.

.

It’s not going to be so bad anymore: Turn around. You are looking the wrong way, in the wrong places. Nothing comes from the south past. Look up the compass to the north future, because what’s coming always comes from the future, even if it’s the next ten minutes. Keep looking up the track; your cargo is on the next train.
