Four of Swords – To be a knight, a candidate overnights in the church seeking a vision of his life purpose as a knight, to report it to the bishop for Bishop’s approval. Here, he lies on the slab covering the church’s relic, his hands folded in prayer. He is ‘not participating’ in most Tarot meaning books.

Four of Swords main meanings are about the lying down (relaxing, sleeping) and about not doing or not being. So this ‘not doing’ part makes Four of Swords a negator card (one that turns nearby cards negative or undoes their meaning). Today, for instance he adds these phrases: but isn’t, has nothing to do with, isn’t doing anything, has no, don’t have any, are not, doesn’t really, no other but, who just doesn’t, is not a, and no one else.

The meanings that arise from the lying down are these: relaxing, hanging around, chills out, doing nothing, still, still the same, I stay here, not even trying, and be done with it.

Four of Swords dissociates. He consciously, deliberately, does not participate. He isn’t responding. (In medical ‘unresponsive.’) He has nothing to do with. Four of Swords can even mean ‘inert.’ Four of Swords will come up for all sorts of dissociation, even for boredom.
Four of Wands – You have to know the picture is about the public part of a society wedding. Weddings of nobility affected borders, affected commerce, so they were made very public. Today, newspapers have wedding announcements.

Four of Wands naturally means marry, marriage, couple, family. In Tarot Verbatim™ all the family cards extend to any size group (the whole herd) from neighborhood to international, any group with something in common that makes its members a group.

So in Tarot Verbatim™ Four of Wands (a family card) means country, my kind of people, one of those people who, the firm, the Company. It also refers to members and being a member, refers to belonging, kinfolk (the relatives), and sometimes even refers to a relationship.

The home of the family is in the picture, so Four of Wands means house, home, marital home. That extends to meaning a building – particularly a public building in the case of Four of Wands because the story is about the public wedding.
Lovers – Today, in the presence of Four of Wands which also means a couple, Lovers sticks mostly to its mainstream meanings of anything to do with love, lovers and loving.

You see two people paired up in the picture. Lovers means partner (any kind); means being together, means being associated with, means being a couple, means both of us – and even means two people (or animals, or most anything) standing side by side or close together.

Lovers is also very much about connection. All forms of ‘connect’ belong to Lovers. Watch for connections to higher-ups.

Lovers refers to a higher power, hence to higher-ups. The angel overlooking the couple brings words that involve supervision, surveillance, and so on. We don’t use them, don’t use God, and don’t use insurance here. But you can Google ‘Lovers Tarot Verbatim’ and get a full report from the archives.

It’s maddening, but sometimes a card’s meaning can produce the opposite thought when applied in your sentence. Four of Swords is a repeat offender in its ‘still that way’ meaning versus its ‘not any more’ meaning. Here today Four of Swords says both ‘isn’t marrying‘ and ‘still married. How this comes about is: The fellow lying on the coffin isn’t participating, isn’t being … isn’t. He is also lying there, still there, staying there, not going anywhere. Somehow in real Tarot life this doesn’t become a problem (at least in my real Tarot life). This blog – operating without a question and without a Querant (questioner) – is not real Tarot life; it is, say, the control group in the experiment.

Lovers means to associate; Four of Swords dissociates. Lovers is a connection; Four of Swords has nothing to do with that.
