Star is love, being crazy about someone (or something); Magician is taking the initiative; King of Pentacles is a man who takes initiative, a studly man. Elements of stories, that’s what we have here. He does what he says he will do; he can talk you into doing anything for him … stories like that.
…………………….Star shows an actress and/or singer pouring something from two pitchers into a ceremonial bath she is performing with great enthusiasm. Sometimes you can take ‘star’ literally since the illustration is about a performance. Star is one of the cards whose emphasis is on talking, so it is good for the usual ‘say, tell, etc.’ words, but it can be about a speech; it can be about confessing love; it can be about other kinds of confessions too. It can be promising … or ‘promises, promises.’ It can even be about a tattletale, a sales pitch, telling tall tales or bullshitting, explaining, pouring your guts out, or talking too much … someone who won’t shut up.
Today Star is influenced by the ‘doing’ and ‘action’ of Magician, so we have doing what you say you will do, talk about doing, promising to do, and so forth. Since Star means love and talk, and Magician means initiative, we have taking initiative to say ‘I love you,’ and we have making love.
Star is conjunct King of Pentacles, the studly guy, so he is manfully confessing his love; she is crazy about flamboyant or charismatic men.
…………………….Magician is one of those simple cards: action, initiative. Conjugate the verbs ‘do’ and ‘make,’ and you have most of Magician’s meanings, and all of the common ones. The way to put this all together neatly in your mind is to remember that as the ‘1,’ Magician stands for the male principle of action, of being active. Briefly, the first four cards in the deck catalog a happening in stages. Fool is the nascent or theoretical stage … ‘when you were just a gleam in your daddy’s eye.’ Magician is the doing, the starting. Action has to apply to something. High Priestess is receptivity, being receptive. You can think of Magician as sperm, High Priestess as egg that got fertilized by Magician. Empress is the finished product: That is why Empress is pregnant. Good way to remember these. (And Emperor is when things have been that way too long and are established, ossified, rigid. Emperor is The Establishment.)
Magician reflects King of Pentacles very well: Both are action oriented, both are definitely male.
……………………King of Pentacles has few meanings. They feel limited, even somewhat petty. Think Liberace. I think of King of Pentacles as the Italian Stallion stereotype, and the picture is Italianate. The only time this card represents a female – and it’s rare – is, say a head nurse who is overbearing. King of Pentacles is charismatic to flamboyant. He is influential to manipulative to powerful. He can be a high level crime boss, a VIP, the pool hall leader, the ladies man, the flim flam man, the top salesman or stockbroker with the mostest, a money man (banker, mortgage broker, backer of an enterprise, gambler) or a politician. He is a Legend in His Own Mind sometimes. If you ask about a pimp, he is likely to show up. Once in a while he translates ‘bastard.’

He can be a powerhouse; is successful; has style; is outgoing; is a real man. When King of Pentacles translates a trait instead of a person, it tends to be more positive. This card suffers from stereotyping, I’m afraid. It may be the card that has fewest meanings in Tarot Verbatim™.
