Since Death is any negative modifier and implies a change as well,
Death and Five of Cups means not sorry, no regrets, not about to lose, it doesn’t hurt anymore, not failing and not looking back, as well as ‘Don’t mope around’ – because those are the meanings of Five of Cups. And
Death and Judgment means no change, not coming back, not recovered yet, not telling, not getting something or someone back, not going to be another, and not a big surprise – because those are the meanings of Judgment. Ythey could also describe a near-death experience (recovering from dying) or death and resurrection. Come to think of it, they also say “Never again.”
Nine of Pentacles and Judgment Both of these cards have a variety of meanings, so they make a variety of phrases together.
Nine of Pentacles is doing well, being in competent charge of yourself and your circumstances, being content with your life, being proud, having self-respect, living in peace and privacy, having enough to be comfortable, being single and in sole charge … and minding your own business.
Judgment means ‘again,’ a new phase or life, being or coming back, change, recovery, a surprise, get over it, get up, saying or confessing or telling or announcing, and ‘another.’
Nine of Pentacles and Judgment therefore mean things like ‘back in the saddle again,’ single again, ‘Tell them to mind their own business,’ recovering and doing fine, being proud of the changes, a new life you are content with, a fresh phase of taking full charge, ‘Get up and take charge,’ a whole new life of self-respect, get over it by doing well, telling them how to live in peace and privacy, someone is home so pop in on them, a new lady with her head screwed on straight, surprised about a stylish lady. And plenty of others: These two cards interact profusely.
Death and Judgment Note that both of these are about major changes, about an end and a beginning – a beginning that is a whole new experience or a whole new form. Literally, we have death and rebirth here, which is exactly how it feels when a deep experience, usually a heartwrenching one, enlightens us into a new consciousness.
I love the way these four cards talk. They say, yes, it hurts, life sucks sometimes, but you get over it and are much better off for it. Yay for that. I will do my best to remember this attitude.

Death In Tarot Verbatim™. And possibly nowhere else, Death is any negative modifier, which includes phrases, as well as words. Give it some encouragement from surrounding cards, and it says death literally. Here, it has both Five of Cups, mourning, and Judgment, rebirth, to encourage it. The illustration is about ‘The king is dead; long live the king,’ about succession, about a change of regimes.
Nine of Pentacles is all about doing well, being in comfortable control, being content and satisfied with your circumstances, being single and/or alone, owning a home or being home, having a life of your own. Five of Cups Oh, you are caught in the downdraft of a heavy regret or major loss, or you are mourning the death (or end) of something. The past is ever with you, and it’s a bad day all around. Being too sorry for yourself, wishing to God you had or hadn’t, being heartsick and not having the heart to go on with life. Oh so melancholy … even depressed perhaps. A black-robed figure contemplates the spilled wine and has its back turned to the full glasses.
Judgment This illustration produces several categories of meanings. An end and a beginning (death and resurrection) is kinda obvious. This brings to mind such things as: again, a new phase, coming or bouncing back, recovery, new phase or new life, and so on. ‘Re’ words belong to Judgment – any number of them – such as revive, redo, renew, relive, and so on. The angel’s horn suggests a loud noise, a big announcement – and therefore brings on such meanings as tell, confess, say, publicity, and even shout. Judgment means a new consciousness, and therefore enlightenment or salvation … or a reminder. Judgment is also a legal term, obviously.
