To his right is the regrettable past we are leaving, Six of Swords. Our stories are all about the past and how it relates to what will be – all sorts of scenarios. We are probably re-living the past in the light of heading on out in a different direction.

Six of Cups is the past (of whatever kind), the good old days, old friends and old lovers, exchanges and gifts, tender scenes in romance, children and childhood, and home … home-sweet-home home, and the home you grew up in. You see well-cared-for children in front of a residence, and the boy is giving the girl a pot of flowers. They are both well-dressed and all is well with them. They are good people living a good life.

………………………….. Page of Wands is who you are now, and is talking, being proud and taking a stand for what you believe and feel. As a person, he is young and handsome, well-dressed and well-spoken, making the best impression he can as he is starting out in life. He means ‘talk’ and its synonyms. ..……………………… .Six of Swords has its spectrum of meanings around leaving. The main thing to watch for here is that it can mean both ‘from now on’ and ‘anymore,’ which in use are often contradictory. It depends on which end of its action you are viewing it from: whether the leaving part or the going to part. It is usually leaving and putting the past behind – which dovetails with Six of Cups being the past. It can often mean avoid or evade, bypass, not anymore, from now on, isn’t as bad as it was, phasing out or drifting into, getting out from under, recovering from, getting on or moving on with life, going overseas, being on your way, moving, slipping away from or leaving a scene, used to (which also dovetails with Six of Cups meaning the same thing), waning, travel (especially over water of any sort or size), and quite a few other such phrases. There’s a mood to Six of Swords of hope … things are definitely going to be better … and numb despair over a loss, including ‘the departed’ – the loss of a dear one who has died. It is getting out of something and into something else, moving forward. Yes, one of its meanings is to depart – as on a cruise ship.

Six of Swords makes it ‘getting over my childhood,’ though! Six of Cups is all of this and more. Six of Cups often means ‘used to’ and Six of Swords also involves ‘used to be.’

Page of Wands …………. Page of Wands is Prince Charming and Every Mother’s Son. In the days before political correctness, Page of Wands was ‘the fair haired boy,’ which had nothing to do with color of hair or age. It simply meant the good image a person had. Prince of Wands is the flirt, the cute or handsome fellow, the spokesperson and the consummate salesman because (like Knight of Cups) we all like the dude.

Six of Swords ………….Six of Swords says ‘There will be better days.’ That is an upbeat outlook. The mood of this card … and it is a moody one … is blue, though. Water under the bridge. It can be the aftermath of someone’s death … getting on with life. It can be leaving the scene of a disaster or loss. The mother and son here are leaving like refugees at dawn or dusk, paddled away in a crude open craft by a friend, you and your kid without a suitcase to you name. Six of Swords is moving forward, recovering. It is sometimes Rehab. Sometimes it is just one of the ‘relocating’ cards, along with Knight of Wands.
