Three of Pentacles – Queen of Cups – Emperor

.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING and

                LEARN TAROT BY PICTURES

.………..………. .……..…….. Three of Pentacles tends to be a lead card wherever it appears. Its meanings relate to business, love, and social life, and its main meanings are clear and few. That’s true here. Three of Pentacles is relationship. You can trust this card.

The other cards are Emperor – The Boss, the older stubborn set-in-his-ways conservative man – and Queen of Cups, the knowledgeable but predictably naïve woman who has faith in him as she figures him out. These two cards, when they appear together, describe the dominant herd-bull senior dude and the woman who is looking for someone and something to believe in.

Emperor is also government and its agencies, and Three of Pentacles is contracts, meetings and deals, so Queen of Cups is knowledgeable about this business, these government contracts. Queen of Cups is more often the secretary than the entrepreneur.

FOR A DEEP LOOK AT A SINGLE CARD’S MEANING, TYPE THAT CARD’S NAME AND ‘TAROT VERBATIM’ INTO GOOGLE, AND GET A FULL REPORT FROM THIS SITE’S ARCHIVES.

Three of Pentacles……. People get together who have a mutual interest and are agreeable with one another, often three people, when you see Three of Pentacles. Three of Pentacles is that kind of exchange – a social exchange, a business negotiation, a romantic liaison, a contract, a legal proceeding. Three of Pentacles shows that exchanges between and among people are pretty much the same process in any of these encounters.

Three of Pentacles is about a fair deal, about everyone involved doing his, her, or their part, living up to the agreement they negotiated when they put their minds together. Yes, this can refer just to two people, and can refer to love relationships.

Three of Pentacles is one of the legal cards. It refers especially to meetings, contracts and negotiation, as well as settlement when it is being a legal card.

These meanings are all neatly brought together by the illustration. The architect and/or general contractor demonstrates to his clients that he built their building according to the blueprint, which they are holding. They are settling up the last draw, which is his profit and the largest payment.

Queen of Cups…….. Queen of Cups features understanding. Its three main trunks about that understanding are: a sympathetic understanding and loyalty – a woman who ‘believes in her man’; figuring something out, or quietly knowing and not letting on, to be diplomatic or ladylike; being knowledgeable about a subject.

Queen of Cups is also the traditional woman, the girly girl, the nice lady. Her stereotype is the Southern woman in the U. S., and a good example of that stereotype is the ‘Gloria’ role played by Sally Struthers in the TV drama ‘All in the Family’ – the Archie Bunker show. She is the stereotype ‘blond’ also, as in having a blond moment.

The naïveté part of the meaning comes from a gal who dreamily stares at that whatever-it-is as water is flooding where she sits.

So you have someone who is both knowledgeable and naïve. You could say she understands her man and loves and admires him anyway.

Queen of Cups comes out as ‘she who knows.’ She appears for a man’s ‘Uh-oh, she’s got me figured out.’ She appears as an indication a person was hired for his/her knowledge. She also appears for phrases like ‘what you know.’

Emperor……In the illustration, you see an old man with the long white beard and long hair, wearing armor only on his feet, crowned, sitting upright on a stone throne, with symbols of power in his hand, and the blank look of someone who knows he is entrenched and cannot be challenged. Emperor represents authority, represents the head man you have to deal with. Emperor also represents you when you are your own authority.

In the picture, he is the head man in power politically, and Emperor can represent federal government, can represent any head of any of government’s branches, can represent the corporate equivalent of that, can represent your because-I-said-so daddy – or for that matter, God the Father, or the capo of the clan. Power figures. But Emperor is also the big frog in any small pond: He is the head mechanic, the guy who owns the restaurant, an insensitive old-fashioned farmer or rancher, your boss, an older or elderly man who is ‘set in his ways.’ Emperor also represents ‘the one who’s been here the longest’ – seniority in a setting.

Emperor can show up to say ‘he’s too old’ in a romantic story. He means old school and old-fashioned. He can show up for someone who is in a nursing home too.

Emperor, typically, is a man of few words. And Emperor is a card of few meanings. Watch for it to show up meaning a hard-head, a stubborn guy, a rigid uncommunicative fellow – stiff. Watch for it to mean stereotype characteristics of old people. Here are some other Emperor words: VIP, man with a title, the title itself (It can say ‘President,’ for instance), mature, grownup, old-school, old-fashioned, and the word ‘government.’

Emperor’s shadow side is the tyrant, the rigid controlling, autocratic, even punitive, personality.

.

.

Dealing with some people is like doing business with a government. It takes a special kind of skilled person to understand them, get along with them, and deal with them. We have that special person here today: She knows all about this. She can respect those people, or government, for what they are, patiently and with a straight face and empathetic eyes. Today we salute this person – and it’s not always a female, we know that.

.

.

Now we show where each of the phrases in each of the sentences comes from:

Emperor

Hierophant – Queen of Cups – Seven of Wands

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

.

Hierophant and Queen of Cups and Emperor      are gathered here together in the name of convention. Hierophant (illustrated as the pope) is the proper convention or tradition; Emperor is the throne, the authority; Queen of Cups is the true believer, the good citizen.

Seven of Wands       And just as in real life, they have attracted a rebel, attracted defiance. Seven of Wands stands up to defend himself against what he perceives as infringement upon his prerogatives or rights.

Hierophant and Emperor       At the two ends of the spread, we have Hierophant being about conforming and Emperor being the authority. These two feed off each other and even mean, respectively, Church and State: both being Authority personified.

Hierophant and Queen of Cups      Queen of Cups as the true believer, the good citizen appears with Hierophant that means the conventional accepted proper set of beliefs and behaviors. The believer and the pope.

Queen of Cups and Seven of Wands      At the ends of our spread we have the two bastions of authority, church and state.

In the middle, we have the two main reactions to authority; we have accepting and we have resisting. Queen of Cups is accepting – the believer, the nice and naïve lady; and we have the defiant rebel in Seven of Wands.

Queen of Cups and Emperor      No discussion of authority can go without Mommy and Daddy, and here they are. Queen of Cups, who understands, is Mommy. Emperor, who disciplines, is Daddy.

Hierophant         Behave: Believe what you are told and do what you are told, and everything will be safe and normal. That’s a pope in the red gown there, and monks kneel before him: He is their ultimate authority. Hierophant in a spread often reassures that there’s no harm. Here are its today phrases: title, proper, figure, behave, good name, safe, official line, old school, conventionally, correct, naïve, church, official story, is right, status quo, conform, okay, supposed to, in the right.

Queen of Cups        We all know her, the nice lady, the good woman, ‘the little woman,’ the sweet li’l gal, the naïve daughter. This card means to think, to feel, to have an opinion, one’s thoughts about (whatever). She is the loyal wife who understand her man. She understands everybody, and her dreamy way of being is expressed in the picture by her gazing upon that funky artifact as the water flows around her chair.

Seven of Wands        is mad as hell and not going to take these intrusions anymore. Today he is the rebel defying authority. The phrases he makes are: mob him, it’s not proper that way, came onto her that way, pressures, riled up, fights the battles, protecting, won’t let, rebels against, no way will I accept, makes, stand up for, makes you, , defend, force, refuses to, defiant attitude, raise hell, dealing with pressures from, stands up for, will have to come out against, defy.

Emperor         The head of whatever – a government, a family, an agency, the guys at the pool hall. He is an old man who has sat on that throne for years and has the look. Here are his phrases for today: VIP, old man, authority figure, father, head of the family, Establishment, daddy, State, federal government, he is in power, old men/man, he is mature, authoritative sources, government agency, head boss powerful interests, the brass.
