My question is:: Will we get back on top of everything have had a rough year people ripping us off and had to walk away from a lot of owed money which has really set us back feel like we are about to lose everything
That’s just a yes-or-no question, and the answer is a clear ‘yes.’ The question isn’t that useful to you, though, so I have tailored and amended it to: Beginning now and up to a year from now, how well will I get out of this financial stall, and give me an idea how to do it.

GUIDANCE Wrecks change us. Wrecks change the people around us. Wrecks – ours and theirs – are turning points … are changes of direction … in the biography of our lives. These are the things we remember the dates of, and count down to. Pain etches landmarks on everyone’s life. Pain focuses us on what’s really going on. I am stronger than what lays me low. If I hadn’t crashed, I would not be where I am now, or who I am now.

Ten of Swords – Hermit – Knight of Pentacles
.
LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING
……….
……….
Two of our Rider Waite Tarot cards are about focusing on something, looking at it, and being devoted to it. Hermit and Knight of Pentacles are two very different types of people. Hermit is the elderly humble servant of God, the service monk, whose focus is finding his people, bringing truth to them, and helping them. Knight of Pentacles is the very physical strongman, Mr. Macho Man, and his focus involves his self interest, and may even be obsessive. The other card makes the distinction and the difference between these two, Hermit and Knight of Pentacles, incidental: Ten of Swords is the devastating loss, the humiliation. The gist of our message today is that hitting bottom focuses us. Whoever we are.
…………………….
Ten of Swords gets our attention because it lays us low. When we are overdue for a correction on our course, sure enough, ‘something’ happens. Ten of Swords represents that devastating correctional ‘something.’ In the same way that a person the spotlight is on, in our lives, is not necessarily a dominant personality, some Tarot cards just take over the spread without being major contributors to the story-line. Ten of Swords is such a card. Usually there’s drama around it.
Expect a feeling of disappointment to be the hallmark of Ten of Swords. Although it can be devastating, be ruin, be a near-death experience or a death, among today’s meanings are these lesser ones: pain, suffering, hurting, being sorry and sorry for oneself, feeling awful, ‘lay me low,’ screw-ups, powers are compromised, victim, and, mainly failure. Loss and failure are at the top of the rung in the dictionary of Ten of Swords.
…………………….
Hermit represents the search, looking for and finding – investigating. It can be about the spiritual path, since a monk is in its illustration, and it is a religious – so in the same way Justice can be a lawyer and King of Swords can be enforcement (police), Hermit can be a professional religious person. It can be about a physical search, usually outdoors on roads. Another focus of Hermit is helping: He is looking for travelers to offer them a place to stay and a meal. Hermit also represents wisdom, maturity, advice (counselor, wise friend’s), and medical treatment as a healer or doctor. He is wearing what signified a doctor in his day. Hermit also means a person who come to, or who approaches, the other person: ‘He calls you. Hermit is the type of older person who has invested his time on earth wisely: maturity. Maturity is a dirty word these days.
……………………
Knight of Pentacles is very physical in its intense focus; is about determination and ambition; is a strong man in his prime; represents that pig-headed stubbornness we recognize belongs disproportionately to the male gender (not just the human mammals, of course). So Knight of Pentacles represents drive. Stereotype is the stocky broad-chested muscular-armed oil field roustabout or diesel mechanic – the fellow with the assertive voice who is very outgoing and can be pugilistic, macho, or even a punk. But you like him. Usually. ‘Muscle.’ (That doesn’t mean he can’t be a hard-driving snarky lawyer or stockbroker.)
…………….
………..
Hermit and Knight of Pentacles Today, with Hermit (who is seeking and understanding and investigating) at his side (and having his back to him), Mr. Knight of Pentacles is mostly about focus and priority. ‘First things first’ is Knight of Pentacles’ slogan. Hermit and Knight of Pentacles both ‘see that.’ Observing, watching, and being focused on something belong to both of these fellows. Together they can say ‘One thing is true,’ because Hermit is the truth as well as the seeker of it. ‘Fully realize (Knight of Pentacles) the truth (Hermit)’ is also here.
…………….
……….
Ten of Swords and Hermit Ten of Swords and Hermit can be a doctor focusing on pain or treating an injury. Ten of Swords and Hermit also describes understanding the downside, and even investigating a murder, because Hermit is an investigator.
…………….
…………
Ten of Swords and Knight of Pentacles _Ten of Swords and Knight of Pentacles are about focusing on pain, as well as about the kind of focus suffering contributes to life.
Just as physical pain alerts me to make a change to prevent some damage, psychic pain alerts me to something being awry in my situation or in my doings. I get a queasy feeling about something, and, from past experience, know to at least consider withdrawing from whatever it is. Something smells really good; it’s good to eat … or associate with. Listening to the barometer in my gut has served as a compass that is accurate most of the time. It’s easier to forgive myself if nothing bad happens when I thought it would, than when I charge ahead in spite of the flashing red light in the back of my mind … and crash.

Ten of Swords……….Ten of Swords is a very bad day. There are some only-mildly-awful effects to Ten of Swords, some mere disappointments. What you see is: stabbed in the back, done in, the bleeding victim. Ten of Swords often translates ‘failure’ and ‘loss.’ It can be feeling humiliated, feeling very sorry or devastated, or just feeling down. It is sometimes self-pity or a martyred act (in which case, look for cards about acting a role, and/or identify cards).
BUT. Put it in the company of other heavy cards in a question about peril or danger – cards like Seven of Swords, Five of Wands, Six of Wands, Tower and Devil, to name a few – and you’ve got yourself a murder or serious injury or assault. You seldom see a convergence of really-bad cards and nothing but them. I got 14 of them when I knew my house was going to be set on fire, and my attempts to prevent it were ineffectual. Tarot validated an extreme disaster. If there are no modifying cards that negate (cancel out) or soften the bad news, watch out.
.

Hermit………….Hermit is one of those broad-spectrum cards, with elements of its illustration creating meanings that have little to do with one another. You intuitively see that a person who has searched for many years has a lot of useful and practical knowledge about life – is ‘old and wise.’ The old man is out looking for people to help, and is calmly going about that task, so the ‘helping’ theme is fairly obvious. The investigation meanings, the medical meanings, the friend meanings, the journey or road-trip meanings: Those are not apparent from the picture until you know the back story.
.

Knight of Pentacles…………Knight of Pentacles, he’s ‘got one thing on his mind,’ and his picture says that. He is physically sturdy and compact – and so is the horse he road in on. Knight of Pentacles is tough. Priority One is a good portion of his meanings. ‘Focus’ is his favorite term. Determination, drive, physical strength, and force are in the picture here. He aims to succeed at some specific priority.

Knight of Wands
Five of Pentacles – Hermit – Seven of Cups
LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING
.
Hermit and Knight of Wands are on the road. Hermit is on foot looking for people to help at night. Knight of Wands is speeding on the road in the daytime, and can be fleeing or pursuing. Hermit is a patient wise old man, celibate. Knight of Wands is a young impatient man who is pursuing.
Hermit and Knight of Wands together mean things like: out looking, running around looking, an old man driving around, a friend who comes in a hurry, fleeing from a friend, honest folks move out of an area, quickly brings clarity, quickly leave when I take a good look at, rushes over to calm us down, I was calm as I headed pell mell, your friend rapidly.
Hermit and Five of Pentacles: Hermit goes out to help; Five of Pentacles is in dire need of help. Hermit is the monk and Five of Pentacles is Dark Night of the Soul, a recognized phase of spiritual life, particularly for Roman Catholic mystics. Incidentally, Hermit has a walking stick and Five of Pentacles has crutches.
Hermit and Seven of Cups are looking for what is lost … or are lost and looking. They are a confused old man, they are brain fog from being up all night, they are looking at the pieces, they are looking for the needle in the haystack, they are taking a good look at this mess, they are clarifying the confusion.
Five of Pentacles and Seven of Cups describe brain fog in different ways. Five of Pentacles is numb with despair, trudging through desperate times. Seven of Cups is shock and confusion as things go out of control. Five of Pentacles talks about poverty, poverty of the soul, lack and disability and sickness. Seven of Cups talks about insanity, delusions and hallucinations, and things falling apart. (You don’t like to see them in one another’s company.)
Five of Pentacles and Hermit and Seven of Cups are all night scenes. Sometimes that is meaningful, especially when both Hermit and Knight of Wands are on the road, and Seven of Cups means ‘going out of control.’
Seven of Cups and Knight of Wands is going out of control at high speed on the road. It is also making a mess by being in a hurry. Just as …
… Five of Pentacles and Knight of Wands is losing something by being in a hurry.
So be careful today! Avoid brain fog! Remember, Hermit is clarity of mind, is understanding. So Five of Pentacles and Hermit is a lack of understanding and clarity. And Seven of Cups means befuddled and confused! Here’s the equation, okay?
+
=
These could read “Looking for the needle in the haystack.”

Five of Pentacles shows a mother and son who are homeless and sick (Son is on crutches) in rags who are so benumbed that they are walking in a snowstorm past a cathedral where they could have food and shelter. The despair depicted reflects a phase of spiritual maturity that recurs called ‘Dark Night of the Soul,’ which is a title of one of the Western mysticism books.
A common meaning for Five of Pentacles is ‘lack of’ or ‘shortage,’ including bookkeeping matters. It means being poor, being homeless (losing the house), the ghetto, being sick, being crippled or injured, desperation and despair, and of course losing it all. Sometimes it stands for self-pity regardless of circumstances (“Poor me.”)

Hermit depicts a monk who goes out at night with a lantern to find and help travelers in distress. (In this spread, he is looking at them there by the church!) He is on the road at night. This Rider Waite Tarot card also means understanding, learning, a friend, a friend comes to (you), a friend helps, and a counselor or medical healer. It indicates that someone will come to you if that is the question. In our spread today, he is looking for something.

Seven of Cups Well, here’s the messed up, scrambled, lost things (or people or animals). Debris and detritus. Out of control. It describes the fix we are in when we bite off more than we can chew, when things go awry and we don’t know what we did to make that happen … like when we’re on the computer too long?
The illustration is based on the Pandora’s Box story or on the Sorcerer’s Apprentice story. In both of these stories, bad spirits are released from confinement and things are in disarray.

Knight of Wands is getting out in a hurry, by the illustration. His horse is disturbed, rearing, front feet up. The Knight’s clothes indicate some speed, and his expression is animated, maybe even fearful. In use, he will show up for pursuing as well as fleeing, but Knight of Swords is more obviously the pursuer.
