Guidance

We find ways. We find ways when we are broke to get together with our people. We find a house in a neighborhood we can afford, a fixer-upper maybe. We make a good home life on a shoestring. We do without for the sake of family. Everyone’s path includes some Dark Night of the Soul, and I am a friend to people who are in need as much as I am to people who are doing well. You guys feel inferior when the truth is, you are as good as the rest of us.

Synopsis

A person who is all about solitude feels as stressed in the company of a bunch of people as a person who is a natural-born joiner feels in solitude. The group leaves you cold when your real life is internal. One man can see how his marriage is draining him of life, and another misses being married and is out looking. But even if you are a hermit, your people comfort you when you are down.

Four of Wands

Four of Wands

A socially prominent respectable family – the foundation and leaders of the town – is hosting the public part of a wedding ceremony: That’s our picture. The ‘family’ theme extends to any group or organization or Company – any kind and any size of group of people, from neighborhood to national or international.

As a wedding, Four of Wands starts with the marriage and the couple, of course. Naturally, Four of Wands means the good sensible solid people of the society (any society, anywhere). But it also (as its twin ‘family’ card does) means ‘everybody.’ Today it is a crowd, and the people who are in good shape, who are doing well, who are ‘as good as anyone else.’ It also represents a good home life.

Four of Wands is a house or building, including a public building. Today, that makes it a treatment center or a religious organization, with Hermit as the religious part.

Hermit

Hermit

This (service order) monk goes out at night with a light as a beacon for travelers on the road, to help them or invite them in for dinner. So Hermit is coming to the aid of, helping out, looking or searching or seeking, a religious person, being decent and wise, and also being a doctor or healer. He is dressed as a doctor of the middle ages’ time. Hermit is a trip on the road, usually pedestrian. Hermit also can refer to winter, snow, cold, mountains, nighttime, and carrying a light (flashlight, headlight, etc.).

Hermit owns the virtues and attributes of a service monk: being devoted, being alone, being humble, being on the Path, being religious, kind, helpful, a friend, loyal.

This Hermit card also translates: understanding, knowing, truth, sincere, seeing or observing, or even witnessing.

Five of Pentacles

Five of Pentacles

Five of Pentacles  is one of the dismal cards. It can be about hitting bottom and being so numb you don’t see the way out. It can be desperation. Being desperate financially, having a hopeless health problem – all of that. The picture shows homeless son and mother, crippled and shoe-less trudging through the snow past a church that, back then offered food and shelter … unless you were a leper, and that is what the bell around the boy’s neck represents. So today Five of Pentacles says these things in our story: disabled, miserable, draining him of life, people who are in need, feeling inferior, sick and crippled people, the ghetto, and desperate people in bad shape.

But that is just where we start … with the illustration. Here are the more common meanings of Five of Pentacles from today’s work: A rundown neighborhood, I’m lonely, a fixer-upper house, leaves you cold, feeling left out, broke, on a shoestring, sacrifices and does without, misses, in the dead of winter, when you are down, my shortcomings, and when you need it.

Five of Pentacles can, and often is, making do with what you have; doing without as a sacrifice. Even a down mood or a ‘day from hell.’

But Five of Pentacles has a very special meaning for your spiritual life: Dark Night of the Soul. That’s when you have had an enlightenment, an epiphany, a peak experience, a eureka revelation or awakening, which is followed by a sort of buyer’s-remorse despair at … now that you see … how benighted, how ignorant, you were. Dark Night of the Soul is a miserable, but normal and natural, experience.

Learn Tarot

Now Without The Pictures

These three cards have some powerful and curious interplays in common. Hermit is a monk, a service monk, out looking for people in need outdoors on a mountain path, to bring them in for dinner and wise chat. The mother and son in Five of Pentacles are outdoors on the street, in need, passing by a church and not asking help from it. So we have someone bringing help to people who need it but are not seeking it. We have two stories that take place outdoors on the street or trail, and we have two cards that are stories about church.

Four of Wands is home, and is people who have the comforts of a good home. Five of Pentacles is people who have no home and no comfort. Hermit – the helper and the help – is stationed between them. Four of Wands and Five of Pentacles contrasts people who are in good shape with people who are in bad shape, and contrasts the superior ‘leaders of the town’ with the inferior ‘bums on the street.’

Hermit is a solitary individual who is alone, and Five of Pentacles is people who are ‘alone in the world,’ who are lonely outcasts.

Four of Wands is an organization and Hermit can translate ‘religious,’ so: a religious organization – or its building or headquarters, which Four of Wands also means. Hermit is devoted, and Four of Wands is family, so: He is devoted to his family, or devotion to the family. Hermit is coming, and Four of Wands is home, so: coming home.

The theme for the preponderance of the stories these spreads make is: belonging and not belonging – being a member of the group, or being outside membership – whether by choice as Hermit is, or by being shunned and shut out or excluded as Five of Pentacles is.

Seven of Swords

Seven of Swords

This is one of the complex Rider Waite Tarot cards. You see a fellow hot-footing it out of enemy camp in broad daylight carrying their weapons (disarming the enemy) blade down in his bare hands. So you have a thief, stolen property, weapons and stolen weapons, daring, a hero or spy-type mission, a traitor, risk, self-undoing and self-destructive behavior. You have ‘illegal’ itself – an illegal act or, these days, illegal person. Seven of Swords is dirty tricks, is a culprit or criminal, lowlife, ruthless or merely unethical.

In real life Tarot practice, Seven of Swords is someone who violates trust, double-crosses, undermines another person, is thieving, is cheating or sneaking around (usually with another lover). Seven of Swords is a ruthless person. You do not want to see this card with Six of Wands, also the secret enemy.

But Seven of Swords is also adventure, taking a chance, having the guts or the nerve to, getting even, getting justice done in a street-justice way, and outfoxing the enemy or outsmarting the problem person. It can simply represent a risk or hazard too. Seven of Swords in Tarot Verbatim can be advice to get unethical yourself and use foul means to accomplish the fair purpose.

Eight of Wands

Eight of Wands

The picture of one board above another flying through the air ends up not only meaning words like ‘increasingly’ and phrases like ‘one after another’ or ‘more and more,’ but also putting suffixes like ‘-ier,’ and ‘-iest’ on innocent by-standing Tarot cards. Eight of Wands can also splatter its neighbor cards with plural forms. Note that it’s not unusual for one of these operations to be Eight of Wands’ only contribution to your spread! Yeah, one little ‘s’ is it.

Why is Eight of Wands the main general communication card? Still trying to figure that out – but it does operate that way. It represents written or spoken communication, including documents and lists. Any kind of communication, even telepathy and smoke signals. Lists are easy to see: the lines suggest that. And this is the card for texting.

Eight of Wands also means quickly and fast, and can be one of the speed/hurry/rush cards.

Justice

Justice

Besides meaning lawyers, judges, courtrooms, trials, police and the word ‘legal,’ Justice also means fair, should, supposed to, sane, sensible, normal, legit, straight, right, entitled and deserves. Going straight brings in ‘sober’ for Justice, and also ‘Rehab,’ which is, of course, going straight. Justice is the real thing (versus the counterfeit), and sometimes it means reality, get real, realistic, etc.

Justice shares those ‘going straight’ and ‘normal’ meanings with Hierophant. It shares the fairness mode with Six of Pentacles.

Learn Tarot

Now Without The Pictures

The pattern of a neutral card between two opposite ones recurs here. Seven of Swords is the illegal and Justice is the legal, and Eight of Wands just means more of the same, quickly, writing, or talk.

It’s easy to see two main stories at a glance: the bad guy goes straight; justice is accomplished by illicit means. It’s easy to see police stealing, and criminal courts too. Stolen legal documents is right there too, but I didn’t list it because it doesn’t have that much meaning for visitors, I felt.

The main message of our today-spread is: The bad guy or culprit or offending person goes straight, is straightened out, is outsmarted – or undoes himself.

Now, Part Two,

Do you want to know a little, or a lot, about how this Tarot Verbatim™ thing works? If so,

*Go to Learn Tarot by Observing section below. This tells about the combined meanings of the three cards in the pictures in the Tarot Readings.  It explains how these cards get together in your mind to make the messages. HERE ARE PHRASES FOR ALL THREE 2-CARD COMBINATIONS is a stream-of-consciousness bridge to your subconscious if you use it regularly – people report.

*Go to Learn Tarot by Pictures.  It is what each of the cards, by itself, has to say.  It shows you how that illustration makes that card’s meanings in today’s Spread. All the words of each Tarot card reading you see here are a phrase-by-phrase translation of the scene pictured on those cards: no filler, no psychic impressions, no spirit guide. Word-for-word Tarot Verbatim™.

You can put all this together and intuitively see yourself how Tarot Verbatim™ works.

This is a group reading, with no Questioner and no Question to limit what the cards say, so there’s more variety – even contradictions – than a personal reading would give you. Also, pronouns are flexible: If the sentence feels like it’s yours, and it says ‘he,’ but you’re a ‘she,’ well, it’s yours.

*AND if you write names of any two cards into the Google search bar, it will give you meanings of those!

Seven of Swords – Eight of Wands – Nine of Cups

.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

………………………    Consider this a symphony of Seven of Swords. Seven of Swords is an ominous card usually. It has a few good meanings, though, and Nine of Cups’ meaning getting exactly what you want, along with Eight of Wands amplifying that as ‘every time’ or ‘more and more’ convert Seven of Swords into satisfying and profitable adventure. This is a special – today only!

…………………………..    Seven of Swords illustrates the unlikely caper of a fellow hotfooting it out of enemy camp with as many of their weapons as he can carry in his bare hands … blade down. We scatter some meanings around here, but they are all about a caper of one sort or another. Seven of Swords is usually betrayal, backstabbing, cheating as a violation of trust, self-destruction, thievery, crime, theft, revenge, black operations, criminals, mugging, assassination, and getting away with murder – figuratively or for real.

However, Seven of Swords lite is having the nerve, having the guts, pulling it off, sneaking away, adventure, daring, going out on a limb, being ‘on thin ice,’ living dangerously, taking a chance, escapades, shenanigans, guts, the smooth operator, reckless, wild side or walk on the wild side, risks, long shots, guts, bad boys, tricks, rackets, cutting corners.

Note all of these are exciting. Seven of Swords is an adrenalin card – like Page of Swords, who is pure adrenalin, idiopathic adrenalin (no known cause).

…………………………..    Eight of Wands – as is often the case – is an innocent bystander. It makes plurals of nearby cards, it means plural things like: tell everyone, all, all the others, one at a time, many, all, they, repeated, more and more, increasing, things and those thing, etc. Think of it as adding. Because it can also ad ‘er and ‘est and ‘ier, all of which indicate an increase to their root words.

Eight of Wands is also any kind of communication. It is one of those card that can mean say, tell, speak, news … and Eight of Wands specifically is written communication, so check it out for texting and emails, even. Don’t forget, it can refer to what you read or hear as well.

Eight of Wands also means quickly, fast, and any similar word.

Eight of Wands means repetitive, means one after the other, the next one, each time. It also means a list of things. The illustration suggests that.

Eight of Wands can combine the ‘say’ category with the ‘over and over’ category to refer to repeating something over and over, including chanting, affirmations, and someone who will not shut up.

…………………………..    Nine of Cups – we all like you. Every deck says ‘Your wish is granted’ for Nine of Cups. If Seven of Swords is the party pooper, Nine of Cups is the consummate party, the invincible party. Seldom is Nine of Cups negated. (Yes, it does happen, especially paired with Death to say ‘You don’t get it your way.’)

You take that safunsified look, that burp you can feel on the paper Tarot card, and apply the feeling to some language regarding the situation you inquire about. Nine of Cups is wanting something, wanting to be something, as well as having it. It is excess and greed, and also suggests ‘too much is enough.’ So you get phrases like these for Nine of Cups:

greater reward

want even more

so glad

I feel so good

the better off you are

how I have enjoyed

I am enjoying life

I enjoy

Pleasurable

pay off well

Too much for my own good?

benefit

wants to/wants to be

get more and more

get more and more greedy

fat and happy

make good money

more profit

anything I want

a reward in itself

anything you want

Risk to the left and benefit to the right, and in between is a lot of it, real fast. This spread manages to pull Seven of Swords’ teeth. Seven of Swords usually soils its spreads – but not today. Seven of Swords  ……….. You got Seven of Swords, you got drama – some kind of excitement. ‘Most all its meanings have an adrenalin rush on the side. Since Learn Tarot by Observing’s description of his meanings are not just for this spread, but are general, I will quote it in full here: “Seven of Swords illustrates the unlikely caper of a fellow hotfooting it out of enemy camp with as many of their weapons as he can carry in his bare hands … blade down.

However, Seven of Swords lite is having the nerve, having the guts, pulling it off, sneaking away, adventure, daring, going out on a limb, being ‘on thin ice,’ living dangerously, taking a chance, escapades, shenanigans, guts, the smooth operator, reckless, wild side or walk on the wild side, risks, long shots, guts, bad boys, tricks, rackets, cutting corners.”

.

Eight of Wands …………. Eight of Wands is sort of a tool of the Tarot deck. Its very own meanings are: communication, quickly, repetitive, increasingly, and a list of things. It often means ‘things’ because it goes around making other cards plural. Per its ‘increasing’ trunk of meanings, it also goes around making other cards say ‘more’ by adding: ‘er; ‘ier’; ‘-est’; and ‘-iest. Sometimes that’s all it does. That’s what makes it a tool of the Tarot deck – my private title for it.

When it combines its ‘talk/say/speak/’ category of meanings with its ‘more’ or ‘increasing’ category of meanings, you get ‘talk too much,’ said too much,’ and other such phrases.

.

Nine of Cups …………. It’s a relief to see Nine of Cups in your spread for two reasons: Its meaning is clear and simple – and dominant; and it’s about getting what you want. Nine of Cups sometimes translates only the ‘want’ part, but even then there’s an implication that all will be (or is) well. You are content when you are in Nine of Cups territory: You have enough, you have plenty – and you might even have too much, because Nine of Cups can cross over to being excess, greed, and having eaten or drunk or consumed too much. It means ‘glad’ and ‘enjoying’ and ‘feeling mighty good,’ safunsified.

Seven of Swords – Eight of Wands – Sun

.

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

.

……………….……………………     Wondering why our sentences are so similar, so repetitious? Well, Seven of Swords and Sun both are about pulling off a daring stunt, breaking the rules or laws, sneaking away or sneaking out … and Eight of Wands just pluralizes the antics of which the other two speak, or means ‘fast’ as in ‘fast one.’ If Sun didn’t also mean ‘leaving,’ generally, we would be stuck for a post today!

………………………..       Seven of Swords  shows a derring-do. He sneaks into enemy camp in broad daylight and makes off with the weapons, carrying the naked blades in his bare hands a he hot-foots it out of there. So he is a thief, he sneaks, he is a smooth operator. He is either a terrorist or a hero, depending whose side you belong to. In an actual spread, this Tarot card often means a lowlife, a criminal, the creep who made off with your tools.

Seven of Swords is to dare, to outfox, to pull it off, to get away with it. It is also your wild days.

………………………..     Eight of Wands   shows a number of boards flying in the air. And that’s what it means: a number of, and quickly. It also means communication: talk, writing – any kind. Why, I don’t know, it just reliably comes up for that, and Tarot Verbatim™ is based on field experience. Eight of Wands is a pluralizer; it means many, more, increasing, one more, more and more, etc. It is also about repeated actions: ‘Keep doing (whatever)’ is often what it tells you in your spread.

………………………..      Sun is another one of those complex cards due to many elements in its illustration. The kid is having fun. The kid is breaking the rules, sneaking out of the house whilst undressed. The kid is recklessly cavorting on a pony that is about to throw him. The kid obviously is callously devil-may-care. Those are the trunks of Sun’s meaning-tree.

……….…………..              Seven of Swords and Eight of Wands    Seven of Swords and Eight of Wands is one shenanigan or crime or daring mission after the other. It’s also pulling off a fast one, since Eight of Wands means ‘fast’ (or quickly), and Seven of Swords is getting away with breaking a rule or crime.

………..…………..              Seven of Swords and Sun    Seven of Swords and Sun … oh, my! We have the same mentality: Sun is the callous playboy, the brat, the kid who sneaks out of the house and gets away with antics. Seven of Swords sneaks around on either daring missions, or thefts or other crime, and hotfoots it out of there, getting away with it. Note that they are both leaving.

……………………       Eight of Wands and Sun    Eight of Wands and Sun mean some miscellaneous things like ‘a lot of fun’ and ‘more children,’ ‘a lot of them are leaving,’ and ‘childish talk’ or enjoying a conversation.

.

.

In small doses, reckless living can be fun for all. Like on vacation? But enough of it wears out its welcome. We talk about our wild and crazy days, and the risque things we did on the spur of the moment while no one was lookin’ on vacation out of town. And how criminals can be fun to talk to. Then we talk about leaving when the party gets too wild, and making the offender leave here. We say the way to be free is to outsmart everybody, which is entirely another chapter.

Seven of Swords   ………    Seven of Swords is the consummate party pooper Tarot card: When it shows up, there’s mischief afoot, there’s risk and liability, lowlifes and theft, criminality and sabotage. It can also be getting away with a shenanigan, a stunt, a caper. Pray that the spread he is in does not augment his dangerous side: This card can be assault, murder, assassination, theft, double-cross, treachery … and getting away with it.

.

Eight of Wands  ………….    Eight of Wands is often a bystander card. Its main meanings are: quickly or fast; communication; many, several, more and more – I call it a pluralizer. Very often, it just makes another card plural … adds an ‘s.’ It means documents, writing, texting, talking … smoke signals, sign language – any communication.

.

Sun  ……….      The illustration shows a little brat who snuck out of the house naked to maybe get his little self killed having the time of his life on a mean little horse. Oh what fun he is having breaking the house rules. He is reckless, callous, willful, funloving, cute, uninhibited, and enjoying himself. These are Sun’s meanings. Charm is sometimes in the picture, of course.

Advice is about destructive criminal types,  cheaters,  traitors and how honest people deal with them –  which is,  of course,  all kinds of ways and all kinds of scenarios.  No one comes to help when it is dangerous.  The old man refuses to listen and harms himself.  Everybody is coming to help stop street crime.  Says he is true,  that he does not fool around.  You know  ‘something’s up’  when he quits talking to you.

*Go to Daily Message Tarot Analysis below.  One or more of those sentences has something to say to you.  Intuitively pick those out.  They are about you and the people around you.  They are about today and the days around it.  (It  is a group message like a horoscope, except Tarot isn’t based on someone else’s birth data, so it can be specific, accurate, detailed and direct. Our experiment here is “How much more accurate is it?”)

Did you come here for your predictions?  –  You are done now –  See you tomorrow.

Without a question to focus the answer,  four cards can mean contradictory things especially when the Spread has a card that negates other cards.  Without a question also the pronouns in a group reading are more flexible,  especially in some of these Rider Waite Tarot spreads . When a pronoun is in parentheses,  feel very free to substitute.  The question in a ‘real’ individual reading supplies at least half the information!

Seven of Swords

Eight of Wands –  Four of Cups –  Hermit

MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS:  OBSERVATION OF THE SPREAD

Seven of Swords:  That’s the sneaky person.  That’s the cheater.  That’s the criminal or the one who sneaks out and violates the rules.  It’s the illegal act or person.  That’s you getting away with it,  or getting even … a little  ‘street justice.’  Seven of Swords is a hazard or hazardous material as well.  It is a hazardous mission,  a reconnaissance or black ops or illegal mission … which does not have to be an official one;  it can be a person on that kind of adventure privately.  It stands for daring,  derring-do,  and self-destructive acts and persons.  So there’s the ‘star card’ of our spread.  The other cards will frame what part of Seven of Swords is being brought out.  The other cards are benign,  so we are not into horrors or disasters here.

The next Rider Waite Tarot Citizen to shape our stories is Hermit.  Hermit has several applications:  Investigation,  truth or fact,  observation or demonstration,  sincerity,  coming to help,  coming,  help,  counseling or wising up or straightening up,  a friend or a friend who helps,  sane and sober.  Now you should begin to see why we have so many sentences up there!

Remaining citizens are the constants.  Constants as Tarot reading goes.  Eight of Wands is messages, talk,  a list,  increasing (as in ‘more and more’ or ‘-er’).  Four of Cups is refusing,  not listening or not engaging,  kind of  ‘not doing’  and ignoring.  It means ‘no way!’  sometimes.

As many sentences as we have,  many more variations are out there.  I quit because these are  ‘too many’  for a lot of our visitors and readers.

MEANINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS:  INDIVIDUAL RIDER WAITE TAROT CARDS

Eight of Wands mainly is messages,  talk,  a list,  increasing (as in ‘more and more’ or ‘-er’) including more speedily.  It makes nearby cards plural.  For example,  if you are using  ‘friend’  as what Hermit means,  and you add Eight of Wands,  that makes it  ‘friends’  or  ‘all the friends’  or  ‘many friends,’  or even  ‘more and more friends’ or  ‘more and more friendly.’   Some of its meanings are not used today,  and I am leaving those out for now.

The illustration of Eight of Wands is limbs flying in the air one on top of the other,  as in a barrage of boards flying through the air.

Four of Cups isn’t accepting,  isn’t listening,  isn’t about to,  won’t have anything to do with,  refuses to,  is not reachable.  Nothing goes through here.  “No.”  Illustration aptly depicts that:  A disembodied hand holds out yet another cup to a person whose arms and legs are crossed,  whose head is averted.

Hermit Shows a monk out looking for travelers who need help at night in the cold.  Its disparate meanings arise from that illustration:  Comes to help,  comes to the other person,  honest person,  monogamous or celibate,  truth,  a night trip or trip,  look for or investigate,  an old or older man, a healer or counselor.   Some other meanings are left out here,  not used.

Seven of Swords  That’s the sneaky person.  That’s the cheater or double-crosser.  That’s the criminal or the one who sneaks out and violates the rules.  It’s the illegal act or illegal person.
