Ten of Cups – Ten of Cups often translates ‘everybody’ and ‘people’ and ‘all of us/them’ as well as ‘we’ and ‘they,’ sometimes ‘their’ or ‘theirs.’ It even means ‘united,’ ‘unison,’ and other words that reflect joint participation or interest. Ten of Cups is everybody getting along, having the same values, agreeing and being agreeable.

Ten of Cups is Happily Ever After, is one big happy family. Ten of Cups is your dream home pictured here in a good neighborhood with two perfect children. Ten of Cups is one of the positive marriage cards; Four of Wands is the other, and Ten of Cups specifically can say ‘married with children.’ It can also mean people living together in the same household. And Ten of Cups is also simply ‘happy’ regarding any old thing.

Ten of Cups is one of the cards that translate ‘relationship,’ and it often translates ‘happy relationship’ or ‘good relationship.’

Note the theme of belonging here. Ten of Cups, as a marriage card in Tarot Verbatim™, represents any size group of people and any size community or organization, from the couple to world level. But Ten of Cups expands on that; it is about a group whose members identify with whatever the group represents. Today ‘We belong here’ and ‘one of those people who’ and ‘one of them’ express this.

Other applications for this happy picture include the ordinary things of routine daily life – a nice normal day, in other words. Think Mr. Rogers’ ‘day in the neighborhood’ theme. Another thing you find Ten of Cups doing is that, when you have a card about consciousness, like Hanged Man, Ten of Cups will add ‘mass’ to it, for mass consciousness.

Hanged Man – To think, to know, to feel, to realize: These are Hanged Man’s main themes. To be motivated, to be inspired, to be thrilled, and to have the urge to: These are also common words and themes for our Hanged Man. The fellow in the picture is upside-down, which indicates a radically different way of looking at things, a whole new perspective. His brains are scrambled, his mind is racing, the blood is rushing to his head.

The illustration is really about the beginning of psychic intuition, psychic awareness, and how you feel when that happens to you. The story is based on several myths about gods or heroes who sacrifice a body part or body function for ‘wisdom,’ where wisdom is psychic ability. Each of them hangs himself on a tree for three days to accomplish this mission.

Words that appear today about this psychic awareness are: mind, your subconscious, to be aware, insight into, psychic awareness, a psychic, a psychic, his gut tells him.

To know and to realize are by far the most common translates for this Hanged Man card. The picture brings us ‘a thought strikes.’ Here are today’s (minus all the ones used more than once): know, knows, you know that, knowingly, you know it, know what, understand, you understand why, you get it, only thinks.

Almost as often as Hanged man translates about knowing, he translates about feeling. Here are today’s: I feel, a feeling about, you can relate to, feel strongly about, whatever he feels like, you feel for, us feel, strongest feelings, you feel intensely, that strong feeling you get.

Hanged Man also is about instinct, drive, urges, motivation, and being inspired to do something. Fairly often it is about being thrilled, and even being turned on.

Magician – Magician’s place as number one in the Major Arcanae gives him the meaning of being the active party, action, doing, making – often, making something occur (or not occur). The number one position in Major Arcanae also gives Magician meanings of starting, beginning, initiating. Google ‘Magician Tarot Verbatim’ for a full report and explanation of this.

Magician will translate pronouns, and it will also blend in with other cards which involve the doing of something, sometimes meaning ‘the one who does.’ So you find Magician saying ‘he is’ and ‘he does’ or ‘he is doing,’ using two of his meanings together. Other card do this as well. Like, say, Page of Pentacles translating ‘he’ or ‘he thinks.’

Although Magician is really that simple, flexibility exists in the actual words you can apply. Some of the less obvious ones, today, are: what we are doing, can get it done, he is the one who gets things done, you do one thing; I am the one who does; act that way, you’re acting like, an activity that puts (whatever) into; beginners, are starting; he makes us, do whatever makes, makes things happen.

Three of Swords  – The picture gives away a lot of Three of Swords’ meanings. You see the stormy weather, the suffering and broken heart, and you get the feeling this is about adverse circumstances and hard times. In Three of Swords, you have the cold cruel world raining on your parade. You probably see heart trouble, and you may even see heart surgery (knife on the heart) or other surgery.

.

Three of Swords is about personal conflict, dislike and hate, bad relationships and enemies. Three of Swords is being where you don’t belong … or feeling someone else is.

.

Firing (or getting fired, of course) is Three of Sword; and since it also is about hostile or disagreeable people – malcontents, say – Three of Swords can do double duty and say ‘firing the malcontent.’ Three of Swords is about divorce or splitting up; even quarreling and disagreeing belong to Three of Swords. A bad relationship belongs to Three of Swords.

Three of Swords is what you are against, as well as when things are against you. Being in the wrong place, the people ‘rub you the wrong way.’

.

Three of words is also fighting an war if there are some strong conflict or fighting going on. Watch for this Tarot card, though, to tone down other baddies as it says ‘against.’ As ‘against,’ it can say ‘against fighting’ with another card that supplies the ‘fighting.’ Most of the baddie-cards are capable of canceling one another out: Watch for that.

Ten of Cups – Here you have the polar opposite of Three of Swords. Everybody gets along, agrees, and is happy in Ten-of-Cups-Land. Ten of Cups is Us and Ten of Cups is ‘our.’ Ten of Cups is the good relationship, is the loving couple, the happy home, the good people, agreement, togetherness, belonging, and Ten of Cups is ‘everybody.’

Ten of Cups’ more general meanings are harder to pin down. Words like ‘universal’ and ‘goodwill’ and ‘serendipity’ and ‘unity’ are Ten of Cups. Ten of Cups could be about, say everybody in the world who shares an interest or sentiment or membership in anything – all the people who knit, who are Lutherans, who have ‘family values,’ or who are fans of something. And, yes, Ten of Cups is therefore a mass consciousness card when that’s called for.

You see the fine home this happy couple is so happy about. Ten of Cups is a member in good standing of the real estate tribe in Tarot Verbatim™, so it stands in for house, home, neighborhood – usually the good neighborhood for children, and usually the fine comfortable home. (It’s Six of Cups that stands in for the cozy cottage, quaint house.

Hanged Man – Well, this title and picture are unsettling and puzzling to the Tarot tourist. Hanged Man is a composite of several myths in which the protagonist (the star of the story) sacrifices a body part and hanged himself on a tree for three days in order to acquire ‘wisdom.’ It always says ‘wisdom’ and it always means psychic insight and paranormal powers.

Buffalo Springfield sang a song about being hung upside-down. You feel disoriented and are seeing everything for the first time again when you begin spiritual and psychic life … until the paranormal becomes your normal. This illustration illustrates that.

.

Hanged Man most often translates ‘realize,’ ‘get it,’ ‘understand,’ ‘see,’ ‘feel,’ and other synonyms of this meaning. Hanged Man is also about an urge or impulse out of instinct or inspiration. Hanged Man often translates ‘intense,’ because being disoriented – upside-down with your hair on fire – is, yes, intense. It will sometimes stand in for something that is intense – like ‘thrilled out of your mind.’ This is also one of the cards for a thought that strikes – Tower and Judgment are some others.
