GUIDANCE Sometimes we look both ways when the guard rails are down, and slip through. Sometimes we go ahead and do the task that holds up progress, the task someone else doesn’t see fit to do. It’s not always teamwork that gets the job done; sometimes it’s someone who does it his way, her way, behind our backs.

Two of Swords – Isn’t, no, won’t, not (not a, not to, is not, not you), non, aren‘t, without, quit, end, prevent, it’s over, comes to an end, stop, can’t, despite, block, and despite a block: See what a consistent negator Two of Swords is? This is an old-reliable card; you just have to make sure of which card or cards it is putting that negative to.
.
You see a stasis, a roadblock, an X that says ‘Go no further,’ and you see a woman blindfolded, in a nightgown in the middle of the night, balancing two heavy double-edged swords in her crossed arms. She can’t put them down safely. You have to wonder how she got in this pickle. We say ‘It’s the end of the road for that person,’ and this illustrates that concept.
.
The picture is strangely similar to High Priestess, another seated female and another 2. They are not related.
Three of Pentacles – Three of Pentacles is hamstrung in the company of two Tarot mates that mean ‘not doing anything’ because Three of Pentacles is definitely doing something. Three of Pentacles is mostly being a group of people who get together, who agree, who have a joint or mutual deal, one of its basic meanings, here.
.
Three of Pentacles also manages to mean ‘deal’ and ‘relationship’ in this present Tarot company, just not as often. The same goes for ‘agree.’ It manages to say ‘do their part’ once.
.
Here are some of its less frequent meanings that come out more today: profit, contract, negotiate, conspiracy, construction.
.
Eight of Pentacles – He is on the job, working. He makes identical objects with repetitive motions of his hammer, this carpenter: He keeps at it. ‘Again’ is one of his words. That’s a large Tarot tribe.
.
Eight of Pentacles is the leading work card, and the leading card for the word ‘job’ in all its forms. Employment, employer, labor (even as an expense). Eight of Pentacles even means ‘effort.’
.
Eight of Pentacles means ‘do’ in all its forms too, as Magician does. It means noun clauses like ‘what is being done’ and ‘what you are dong’ or ‘something you do.’
.
.
.
.
LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING

… ….. ….
.
Three of Pentacles and Eight of Pentacles is people doing work, getting together to get something done, a business meeting, a working relationship (either meaning), doing things together in a relationship, doing one’s fair share, doing your part of the work, getting involved in the task, making a profit hands-on, working for an agreed-upon price, negotiating employment in any way, contract work, joint effort, co workers, construction jobs, keeping a relationship agreeable or mutual, and even keep trying to get together, or one meeting after another.
.
And Two of Swords lefts it leg and puts the negative to one or both of these in the sentences. Two of Swords is the consummate party-pooper: It says ‘ no’ in all its forms all the time. It carries a big bag of apostrophes around for the ‘n’t.’ But let’s remember there are times when we are grateful for that ‘ no.’ When a bad-guy card that would ruin your day shows up with Two of Swords, you could kiss Two of Swords.
.
Two of Swords isn’t limited to just saying no, though. It brings up other words to get in the way of the action, words like these: without, quit, end, prevent, is over, comes to an end, stop, to stop something, despite, blocks, despite its blocks, isn’t happening.
.
So the decision with Two of Swords isn’t what it means; it’s where to put it. You wrap the action of the other cards around the curb that Two of Swords puts on them.

Three of Pentacles – Three of Pentacles is arguably the most versatile card in the Tarot deck. It is probably the best Tarot Verbatim™ example of how one card changes its approach with the influence of another: That is why it is the guide card to the Tarot Email Training program, introducing you to each of the other cards so the deck (your bridge to the subconscious) can talk to you.
.
Today, for example, Three of Pentacles is in the company of Eight of Pentacles, which is about work and doing something (and keeping at it). So today you see Three of Pentacles’ conference, interview, team or group of people, meeting, negotiating, dealing with, and fairness meanings – in addition to its old standbys, ‘relationship’ and ‘together.’ And today, those words are in the light of the boss man, King of Swords (or the manly man, the leader).
.
In the illustration here, the architect (who, back then when cathedrals were being built, also supervised the construction workers) meets with his clients to demonstrate the building is built according to that blueprint his clients are looking at. He demonstrates he has done his part in their contract. This is their wrap-up final formal meeting. When they agree he has done the job, he gets his final payout that represents his profit. All the words in this paragraph are meanings Three of Pentacles can bring your sentences.
.
Three of Pentacles (and Three of Cups to a lesser extent) often indicates a meeting of three people. It will show up in medical stories as doctors of different specialties putting their heads together to come to a mutual diagnosis on a given patient. You can see that that is ‘coming to agreement’ and is ‘teamwork.’
.
So today you can see this business meeting about work being done. Since Three of Pentacles’ most frequent translate is ‘relationship,’ and since we have King of Swords in our story, you can also see a relationship with that tall steely manly man (John Wayne).
King of Swords – Take a good look: This King of Swords card is one that shows up least frequently. It has the fewest index cards in my Tarot dictionary. So who is he? – he is the military leader, the man of discipline, the strong man or strongman the authority. See, he is armed with that double-edged sword he holds upright, and he sits upright too. (King of Swords can also be militant.) He is the leader and the boss. Often, King of Swords shows up to represent a man with natural leadership in his personality.
.
So King of Swords will show up for a man who has a leadership position (regardless of his individual personality) – the boss, the influential man who issues some sort of mandate, supervisor, the authority, the policeman, the lawyer – even the judge. Or the referee at a sports match: the authority. (King of Swords will show up for the word ‘authority’ sometimes, and not necessarily represent a person.)
.
In romance or social stories, King of Swords is the manly man, the leader, the tall steely dude, the boss, the dominant party in the relationship, and the ‘leader of men,’ John Wayne. (John Wayne, in my Tarot’s view, is the man every man wants to be.)
Eight of Pentacles – Now we look at someone who is engaged in getting the job done, the task done. If you have ever heard a professional carpenter hammer, you pick up on the steady consistent keeping-at-it aspect of Eight of Pentacles, which is one of its main applications: it may translate ‘steady’ and it may translate in tandem with another card ‘keep __ing,’ with the other card’s meaning where the blank in this sentence is. This ‘keeping-at-it aspect extends to phrases that mean ‘one after the other,’ similar to Eight of Wands, phrases like ‘over and over’ and ‘each and every time.’
.
And that keeping-at-it stretches to ‘always.’ Eight of Pentacles is one of many cards that can simply say ‘always,’ and the ‘always’ is in different connotations and applications.
.
Now we turn to Eight of Pentacles’ usual application: work and job. Think up any work-related word or phrase, and Eight of Pentacles is your boy for it. Today we have: work, job, his job, for employees, construction worker, everyone who works here, what they did at work, a job, my job, working on, hammer things out, for a job here, this is a job for, and this work is done by.
.
Note since our Eight of Pentacles man is a carpenter that Eight of Pentacles is construction work, or construction worker(s) specifically. Today Three of Pentacles is also a card about builders, so we have construction worker stories.
.
Lastly, Eight of Pentacles also applies to some of Magicians do/done/did/doing translates, and that includes noun clauses like ‘what he is doing.’ And of course, Eight of Pentacles isn’t limited to what a male person (or animal) does when it simply means its ‘doing’ categories.
.

Today is a great example of how cards bring out aspects in one another: King of Swords is the boss in the work of Eight of Pentacles, and is the manly man in the relationship of Three of Pentacles. Not to mention people getting together, Three of Pentacles, and getting something done (Eight of Pentacles). And King of Swords is the leader of the team (Three of Pentacles), not necessarily limited to the ‘boss’ title.
.
Moving into social relationships and romance, we see King of Swords as the manly man in a steady (Eight of Pentacles) relationship (Three of Pentacles).
.
Three of Pentacles has a legal aspect mainly because it involves the contract the architect has with his clients, the priest and nun, plus the meeting aspect – so you see a legal meeting with an authority (King of Swords) here. King of Swords is any authority, and is authority itself, so he can be a judge, a lawyer, or a policeman or other regulator (even a political authority of any sort). Keep in mind that the legal + meeting = a hearing in court before an authority, often a judge but it could be a tribunal or arbitration board conducting a hearing.

A team leader at work gets everyone to keep at it and get the job done, and one of those men with the natural leadership ability in his personality is just the man for the job. He may also be just the man to keep a steady social or romantic relationship going too. Today we salute such an enabler.
