.……….….…….……..…….. Cups, all three. Cups tend to be emotional people and emotional situations. Cups tend to have a vibe to them that, when you pick up on it, you can apply the card artfully to the story that is unfolding.

Two of Cups is one of those weeds that takes over the garden. (We have been having a bunch of those lately, haven’t we?) It dominates its table-mates here today. Two of Cups is about a strong influence that is not apparent, and it’s usually some hidden factor. It doesn’t have to be malefic (a bad thing), but it often is due to the undiscovered or covert (secretive) nature of it. A good example of Two of Cups being neutral is taxes. You could say that Mother Nature and instinct are neutral examples too. Advertising, marketing, and propaganda also belong to Two of Cups.

The illustration brings up romance and sexual desire – emphasizing sexual desire’s tendency to make things crafty and crazy between two … or more … people. Snakes intertwine when they mate. (I walked through rattlesnakes jumping six feet into the are, twirling around one another. I was wearing flip-flops and shorts. I think they gave me dirty looks for interrupting their orgy.) The couple is ‘pledging their troth,’ a legally binding public declaration that they are going to marry. Between the couple is a symbol of malefic influence – the caduceus. The caduceus is an interfering spirit, and it doesn’t have to be bad: Moses used it to keep people from being bitten by snakes. The caduceus is represented in different forms. The American Medical Association uses it as intertwined snakes. (No comment.)

Anyway, this winged lion’s-head over mating snakes represents, potentially: the sexual desire they have and its effect upon them; a selfish motive by one or both of them regarding benefits of their union (mooching, etc.); an interfering factor of any sort, including a third-party person (cheating, or an in-law that’s butting in, or will butt in). These are the more common interferences. But you get the notion. Now we add Queen of Cups into the story. Queen of Cups, as the sweet naïve gal, the blond, the loyal wife or girlfriend who believes in her man, can be the sucker to Two of Cups’ con artist. But Queen of Cups is also one who knows, one who is figuring out, one who is ‘understanding’ both in the ‘understands her man,’ meaning makes excuses for him, and ‘the one who’s onto him.’

Adding a little more seasoning to our Tarot Stew is Page of Cups, who also has a double application here: Page of Cups can be the dummy just as Queen of Cups can; Page of Cups can be ‘something’s up’ – suspicion. So both Page of Cups and Queen of Cups are figuring something out … figuring Two of Cups out. Today, Page of Cups’ propensity (tendency) to turn its sentence into a question comes in handy as Queen of Cups wonders. So you can see: Is my (Page of Cups) sweet till’s blond baby (Queen of Cups) cheating on me (Two of Cups)?

Page of Cups can be other-than-straight in any category, including sexually – and Two of Cups brings that out in Page of Cups. So Queen of Cups can be wondering whether her fellow has some gay connections or tendencies.

Two of Cups………. Here comes Two of Cups, who may be telling you your trust is misplaced. Two of Cups in Rider Waite is the untrue lover, the con artist who is your friend. Tarot Verbatim’s Two of Cups is not anybody else’s Two of Cups. The caduceus, that funky winged lion face with intertwined snakes holding it aloft, is about influence of spirits (spells) in physical human relations or transactions. Tarot, in practice, expands this third-party interference to hidden agendas of any kind at all (even taxes, advertising and marketing).

It indicates, in Tarot, that one or both parties has a hidden agenda regarding the situation. The situation that is pictured is a formal engagement, ‘pledging the troth,’ that was binding back then … binding enough that if the guy did not marry the woman, she was ‘marked for life’ and could sue him. So Two of Cups is about being victimized by another’s scheme. Sexual cheating, mind games, butting in or interfering, kickbacks and bribes and overrides, embezzlement, getting dragged into, or sucked into, someone’s agenda, lying … it covers all bases.

Page of Cups ……….. Page of Cups is you when you feel out of place or awkward. Page of Cups can be any kind of inappropriate: silly, incompetent, inadequate, stupid-looking or stupid-acting, dumb, unsure of himself, strange, a comic figure or literally a comic or jokester, being stupid-drunk, being a jerk, being literally a defective unit in some way, or just being out-of-place, rooting for the wrong team. Page of Cups means: strange, unlikely, an odd idea, humor, nonsense.

And Page of Cups means the word ‘question’ and it means ‘to question,’ in any of that phrase’s applications. Queen of Cups……..Queen of Cups is naïve Gloria in All in the Family, a old major television show that should not have been funny it was so realistic about American family life. Sweet-natured, kind, understanding gal with a little-girl voice who ardently believed in her simple man and in all things right and wholesome. Queen of Cups loves and admires her man even as she figures him out. She is the good wife and the good girl – that pure stereotype. She is loyal, a true believer. But any part of this description is what the card in your spread may represent. Most often, she knows, understands, is figuring out, is a good gal or woman.
