World – Sun – Three of Wands

LEARN TAROT BY OBSERVING and

.………………..……..…….. As often happens, three Rider Waite Tarot cards in Tarot Verbatim™ tell more than one kind of story. World is the ideal (flawless, we say) woman; Sun is the happy fellow; Three of Wands says that’s coming. Three of Wands is money coming in; Sun says ‘to be free of’; World is ‘whatever troubles you.’ Three of Wands is ‘Going to’; Sun is ‘enjoy the freedom’; and World is ‘of being alone.’ We also have the concept that you will (Three of Wands) get out of there (Sun) because you are not going to put up with it (World).

Note that Both World and Sun are about freedom. Sun is the vacation feeling of cutting loose, escaping restrictions, and flouting the rules. World is freedom from bad elements, interference, and trouble. Both of these do as they please, with a different perspective on that.

We also have the contrast of World being about bad stuff not getting to you, and Three of Wands being good stuff coming in.

Yes, we have stories today.

World.……… World’s illustration is saying that a spiritually mature person (adept) repels interference and troublemakers: disinterest is mutual between world and the bad guys on all the planes. World is the ‘dances to a different drummer’ slogan in the picture because she is dancing, as well as the ‘in a world of her own’ phrase. The card is named ‘World’ because the adept’s title is ‘Master of both worlds,’ meaning both kinds of magic. Nothing gets through to her.

World is the superior female, the gorgeous gal, the person you can’t get through to – which could be the lady ignoring a fellow, could be a business person’s array of secretaries, or even someone who lost his phone. The ‘can’t get through’ goes much further than that, into mechanical meanings like a wall or a filter. The wall can be a wall of defense. Where the wall actually comes from is the magic circle through which those critters in the picture cannot get.

World shares the idea of *repelling trouble as a spiritual adept* with Strength. Strength also has prevented the attack – has tamed the beast who would roar but is purring instead, her hand on its mouth. Both these cards suggest that when you solve something within yourself (overcome a vice; think up the perfect squelch) the situation is solved in ‘the real world,’ and no action is necessary.

Sun…………What you see is a naked boy tyke who has escaped from the rules that restrict him in the house to play bareback on a pony who is not amused and who is ready to do something about it. So the boy is reckless, but consequences have not happened yet. Sun picks up the joy, fun, and freedom the boy-child is feeling, and also the idea of escaping a restricting place, and being uninhibited and impulsive. Sun also is about ‘popping in’ – someone ‘pops into’ your life.

Sun is one of the ‘leaving’ cards, with an undertone of ‘getting outta there.. Sun is sunshine and a sunny day – the shadow has lifted.

Once in a while Sun is a survivor, arising from its ‘escape from a restricting place’ meaning. The feeling is relief when Sun is meaning ‘survivor.’

Sun is one of the cards that means baby or child (Six of Cups is another, and Ten of Cups includes that). If the question is the gender of an unborn, Sun says it’s a boy. Sun is about vacation and recreation – cutting loose from the routine.

Sun is also the brat, the ‘I just wanna have fun’ person, the cad, the playboy, the boy-toy, the party person. It means ‘childish’ and childish behavior as well. Sun is a charming fellow, too, and the act of charming someone. ‘Little-boy charm’ and ‘charming baby boy.’

But Sun’s emphasis, and its usual application, is on the fun side, not the penalty side.

With Three of Wands by Sun’s side, you get the idea that relief from whatever is holding you back is coming, that the damper on your income is over and you will have enough money, that happiness is ahead. Sun and Three of Wands are lovely to behold: Free from whatever held you back, and good things are coming. Sun and Three of Wands say: Going to be free, going to be happy, the income that makes you happy, relief is on its way. Sun and Three of Wands also say a fun fellow is in your future. Sun is escaping restrictions, and Three of Wands is good things are coming: nice combination.

All these meanings arise from the story in Sun’s illustration. Learning Tarot? – go over what I have written about Sun, keeping the illustration in mind, and you will probably remember and apply most of the meanings when you encounter Sun in your spread. Because I have covered most of this card’s meanings and common phrases here.

Three of Wands……….Three of Wands is a minimalist Tarot card. The payoff for what you have already done is coming for sure, just wait. Elements of Three of Wands: payoff, the future, wait, and continuing. Three of Wands is more steady income – or making money some way – than one-time profit. Since the man waiting for his ship to come in is looking at the ship (or ships), Three of Wands is about sure things – not about hopes. (So it’s income rather than a jackpot, and it’s a sure thing rather than a hope.)

Three of Wands means future, and is one of the cards that puts surrounding ones in future tense. It is also about continuing. Watch for ‘from now on’ as one of Three of Wands’ common phrases. Its most frequent translates are the future phrases: will, will be, is coming, ahead, until, as long as, yet.

Note that when you put a card that has a negative connotation within it next to a card like Three of Wands that is the future, you get ‘will never be’ instead of ‘will be.’ This modifying effect is a good thing to keep an eye out for and to keep in mind as you read Tarot. When the subject is something not happening, then Three of Wands becomes ‘won’t ever’ and similar phrases. For instance, World, today, is ‘nothing gets to her,’ so Three of Wands makes ‘nothing ever will get to her.’ Three of Wands means ‘continuing,’ so when it is in a sentence about something that doesn’t happen, it makes ‘doesn’t ever.’ In other words, it continues to NOT happen.

We have a shapely gal, a funloving boy, and a good future. What more could you want? We have an enjoyable life by simply eliminating whatever is incompatible with happiness. (If you decide you’re not putting up with it, it will go away.) We even say you will be happy when you are living alone and doing as you please. We float the idea that an enjoyable life is achieved by eliminating clutter. As the Buddha said back in his day: There are two ways to be happy. One is to acquire all the things you want; the other is to want only those things you have already acquired.
