Eight of Wands – means talk, and phrases and words like: lots of, more and more, many. It means a list or lists of things, and it even means ‘things.’ Meaning ‘a lot of things’ includes ‘everyone’ or ‘everybody,’ and phrases like ‘all of them.’

You see these items, the limbs, flying through the air one above the other like a list, making lines. This is how Eight of Wands comes to mean ‘quickly’ and its synonyms.

Eight of Wands means information; it means data; it means language. It goes as far as to mean the writer, the writing of it, and the detail.

Eight of Wands adds suffixes like ‘-er,’ ‘-iest,’ and ‘-ier’ and it also adds an ‘s’ or other plural form to its neighbors. Eight of Wands means ‘over and over again,’ means ‘another’ and means ‘to repeat,’ too. This is the only card in Rider Waite that specifically means writing, written form, text or a document.

Eight of Wands is a speak/talk/tell/say theme card. That’s one of its most frequent translates. Today, in tandem with Star, we are talking about a lot of talk, and talking about a lot of talk about a lot of things. Yeah, these two cards bounce off each other!
Star – Star’s illustration is a nude shapely lady who pours small jugs into the pond as she bathes in it and sings for all to hear. Many religions have ritual cleansing that involves water and words. Star’s meanings arise from the elements in this scene.

Star features spoken communication, feeling good, being happy, being in great health, looking good (she’s a shapely lady), and enthusiasm. Think of Star as a cheerleader: appreciation and encouragement – rah-rah. So star is confessing how you feel, praising or being praised, encouraging or being encouraged, telling all about it, telling everyone enthusiastically, singing, talking flowery or talking blarney (or both), saying ‘I love you,’ being crazy about someone (or something, actually), saying your lines as, say, a salesperson, performing, even spilling your guts or tattling. Star ends up being a love card with all this good feeling and confession of it.

As the singer and performer, Star is a creative person. And all that ‘telling’ brings in language. So Star is creative with language – a creative writer, when you add the ‘written form’ of Eight of Wands.
Queen of Pentacles – Queen of Pentacles, outdoors on her throne and surrounded by fertility – the growing things and the bunny – represents being capable of contributing to the scene you are in, and doing so. Watch for this card to simply translate ‘she can’ or ‘she is able’ or ‘a capable, talented woman.’

Think of Queen of Pentacles as Earth Mother, the caretaker. This brings her, as the other half of King of Pentacles (the charismatic mover-and-shaker dude), to being the loyal backer of her man – which extends, of course, to being the loyal backer of her family and scene. The pentacle in her lap associates her with money, which makes her the finance person – the money manager, the investor, the backer and mentor of an endeavor, the bookkeeper.

But it isn’t limited to finance: Queen of Pentacles is a manager; she runs the show, wherever the show is, whether it’s a family, a family business, a company she is part of, or an agricultural scene (see the picture).

Queen of Pentacles is capable, competent, talented, skilled. She is a resource for successful endeavors, enterprises, outcomes and other people – so, yes, she is a successful woman herself – say, the vice-president. She is the perfect mentor.

The woman who cares for him. She is all that he wants in a woman. She is maternal; she fusses over and takes care of her man. (Can be, in a possessive way.) She does for people, usually in a matter-of-fact way.
