Wheel of Fortune – Your door is always open for Wheel of Fortune as well as for Nine of Cups. In practice, Wheel of Fortune is ‘something wonderful happens’ and both the ‘wonderful’ and the ‘happens’ are its main applications. Today it is paired with two individuals, a man and a woman, so it is making stories.

But the core meaning of Wheel of Fortune is that the Unseen, both the beneficial elements of it, and the harmful elements of it, are factors in human events. You see the four Hebrew letters that translate ‘Jehovah’ or ‘Yahweh’ in English, and you see the four letters that mean ‘Wheel’ – ROTA – alongside. ‘Rota’ refers to the Greek concept of Wheel of Fortune: coincidence participates in human affairs as destiny, fortune, fate and what we call karma. A prime example of this concept is the Greek ‘Whom the gods wish to destroy, they first make mad.’

In operation, you find Wheel of Fortune referring to luck, gambling, taking a chance, opportunity, and optimum results. Wheel of Fortune also belongs to windfalls, something pays off, winning at gambling, getting rich, cashing in, and winning.

Keep in mind that this Wheel of Fortune card says ‘It happens,’ which can answer your question without you realizing it sometimes.

Nine of Pentacles – You can picture Nine of Pentacles feeling ‘I’ve got mine.’ (Nine of Cups can be that way too.) Don’t ask her for a loan; she made her own success, and you can make yours. This Nine of Pentacles is one of the ‘Don’t-call-me, I’ll-call-you’ Tarot cards. She lacks for nothing: main point. This is a woman who is no one’s dependent!

Part of the focus of Nine of Pentacles is the self-sufficient, independent, private, mind-your-own-business, I’ve-got-all-I-need themes. You see a woman dressed in an expensive robe, standing in a vineyard with her falcon at high noon. These factors express having it all in one place, being able to do as you please, being in control, owning the turf or home, leisure, owning a business or being in a probably entrepreneurial business or a home business, and keeping to oneself.

Nine of Pentacles is content. She has all she needs. In operation, although she can be a mogul or wealthy woman, she simply has the life that suits her. She, like Queen of Wands, runs the household and rules her own personal life, but Nine of Pentacles’ focus isn’t as domestic as Queen of Wands’ is.

Another focus of Nine of Pentacles is the theme of being the headquarters, the base, and staying in one place that is under your control and peaceful. High Priestess, World, and Hermit belong to this theme, and (to a lesser extent, the married women, Queen of Wands and Queen of Pentacles).

Nine of Pentacles is about business, often. She is the main businesswoman card. And since she, in the illustration, is present at her vineyard, this is the card for home-based business, and for an entrepreneur (including a male one, by the way). Nine of Pentacles is being in a profitable niche. Nine of Pentacles is being an expert in one thing. So are World and High Priestess (and Knight of Pentacles ‘knows one thing’). Nine of Pentacles is competent at what she does, skilled. So are Queen of Wands, World, Queen of Pentacles, Chariot. Strength too, with a different focus and different application (about preventing, about handling opposition). Hermit also knows one thing but there’s no focus in Hermit on being in control, or owning, or being the base of operations. Hermit isn’t entrepreneurial; he’s a monk, after all.

Another point Nine of Pentacles makes is: Things are under control. Surface is unruffled, and person is unruffled and in charge. Maybe ‘large and in charge.’

Nine of Pentacles is a single woman. As Hermit is a single man.

.

And, somewhat off topic: Tarot is a female chauvinist sow. It seems designed to express women in control of their circumstances in a good way. Most of the cards that express aggression (social or physical) are male. Only Queen of Swords can be the negative female. So when TarotVerbatim™ is telling you about a controlling aggressive female, it has to use some male cards. This happens in my practice when my client is a nurse talking about coworkers.

Hermit – Hermit’s meanings come from each elements of the story illustrated here. An elderly service monk goes out at night with a light, seeking to help travelers on the road. He is a doctor, too. He takes the travelers home to a good meal and a warm bed like a friend would. Remember this story, and you have the core meanings of Hermit.

First, he is looking, searching, taking a good look at, and observing.

Second, he knows, he knows how, he is wise, and will translate ‘wisdom’ as well as ‘facts’ or ‘factual.’ Hermit is objective and practical in his approach.

Third, he acts as (and is) a friend – a friend who helps and is sincere. Helping includes good advice, counseling (remember, he is a doctor), taking care.

Fourth, Hermit represents an older person, an old person, maturity, and senior experience (seniority, in job questions).

.

Fifth, Hermit is one of the cards of the theme ‘coming to you’ or coming to the other person. Other Tarot cards that mean coming to you and taking initiative that way are Knight of Cups, Knight of Wands (as ‘pursuing’). Magician takes initiative but isn’t ‘coming.’ Three of Wands translates ‘coming to you’ too.
